No CD/DVD drive in My Computer on Satellite Pro M70

The DVD/CD drive on my M70 is not showing up on Win Explorer or Device Manager now.
If I insert a CD/DVD it looks at it and the light comes on, but then nothing. If I press the DVD button on the keypad it says "The CD or DVD drive is not inserted. Please insert the drive which can play CD or DVD."
Any suggestions?

I think this is a simply problem with the registry entries.
I have investigated a lot in the Microsoft knowledge base and in this forum and found one link which was suggested here in the forum a lot of time:

  • New DVD drive not recognized on my Satellite Pro 4600

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a brand new NEC ND-6650 DVD writer.
This drive is NOT recognized by my Satellite Pro 4600, at all - neither Windows 2000 nor in the BIOS (v 2.60). Bios updates higher than version 2.60 are not provided.
Does this mean I can forget about using the new writer in my old notebook?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Nils

    Hi Nils,
I suspect that your new drive may be not be compatible with your notebook. As with all optical drives your new drive will be configured as either Slave or Master (or possible cable select), and this configuration must match your notebook.
Usually your hard drive will be configured as Master on IDE channel 0 with your optical drive being the slave device on the same channel. However, you may find that your optical drive is configured as Master on IDE channel 1.
Normally the setting is pre-configured by the manufacturer so you will need to check both the conficuration of your new drive and the configuration of your original drive to make sure that they are the same.
    regards,

  • CD/DVD drive isn't recognised on Satellite Pro L10

hello. can anybody help with the following ;-
My DVD drive isn't recognised on my comp and in hardware properties it states that my CDW/DVD driver has possibly become corrupted and needs re-installing or 'updating'.
the drive(r) is shown as TSST Corp TS-L462A - can i get the updated
driver download from this site? (is it free?)
    thanks for any assistance
    paul

    Hi Paul,
You don't say what model of notebook you have, but generally speaking if you are using Windows XP then you will be using the standard Microsoft drivers for your optical drive.
However, you can download any of the Toshiba drivers and utilities from the Toshiba web-site by clicking on the Support and Downloads section and selecting Download Files. You will need to complete the details of your notebook so that the correct driver list will be displayed (unless you supplied these details when you registered).
    regards,

  • I have no DVD drive on my computer.  Where are the downloads located?

I received discs for Photoshop elements & premier elements 12 with my new camera but my computer doesn't have a DVD drive.  I assumed it would be no big deal to download them from the Internet...wrong.  .I have serial numbers to install Photoshop but I cannot find where the downloads are located.  I find plenty of "trial" downloads but I should not have to pay for a product I already have.  Can anyone help me out there in cyber-land?  Adobe has no information on the website and I am unable to locate a live person.  So, that is you!  Hey live person, can you help this little ol lady?  Thank you so much!!

I am okay with a computer but not a geek that is for sure!
I downloaded the assistant and nothing happened.  I went to the site you so kindly suggested and started the download, and when I tried to apply it to the computer it said elements were missing.  I deleted the download and then started again.  Right now it is once again downloading the assistant.

    Thanks for the update.
What was the problem...the length of time for the download or just getting any download at all?
If necessary, I will go step by step with you through the tryout download from Adobe. But, the purchase of a USB external DVD/CD burner for your computer is a good idea and investment.
If you do the shopping for this, check out how many connections are necessary for it to the computer....none, one, or two...check out the length of the USB cable.
Please let us know how we can help. But, your mentioned place of purchase has a squad who should be able to help your with the purchase.
Thanks. Please update us on your progress when your schedule permits.

  • Satellite Pro M70-113: Not possible to write on CD-R and DVD-R

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba satellite pro m70-113 laptop.
    Reading Problems:
I am unable to read any cd-r. This is really strange as a couple of days earlier those CD-R were reading fine on my drive.
and when i click the cd drive in my computer an error dialog shows and says F: is not accessible/incorrect function. Here is a screenshot for the error..:
    http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9574/1bp3.jpg
And when I try to read my DVD-R, some times they read fine but sometimes it doesn't read it and the LED of the drive keeps lit when it doesn't read the dvd-r.
When it doesn't read the DVD-R, the following error comes: Screenshot here: http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9674/2bc0.jpg
    Writing Problems:
After getting the reading problems I tried to test my drive for writing.
And i found that I am unable to write on cd-r. I used alcohol, and Nero both but no success.
Though same content when burned on cd-rw its a success.
I am able to burn successfully on DVD+RW 4x media, with data amounting to almost 4.34GB for DVD5..
When I insert a DVD-R media the drive doesnt detect it as a blank media and the LED keps on lighting constantly and so nero at this state doesnt detect my dvd drive even! So i am not able to write to my DVD-R media..
In short: only write to RWs is possible for both, cd-r and dvd+RW, and no writing possible on CD-R and DVD-R.
    Please help me.
It's only 7 months since I purchased this notebook and believe there can be no other person on this planet who takes care of the drive better than me!
Really, I have not used this drive much and never inserted scratched/degraded/local media, only moserbaer media.
    Thank

    Hi
Well, according to your description it sound like the drive cannot calibrate the lens and therefore its not possible to read or write these medias.
Usual its not possible to fix this and the drive replacement is needed.
You can also check the user manual. There you can find a list with all supported and compatible medias.

  • Windows dvd maker does not recognize the dvd drive in this computer

I have windows 7 release candidate on my old desktop and this newish notebook. Windows DVD maker works fine on the desktop but on this Lenovo 3000 N200 it will not recognize the built in dvd drive. I have checked with Device Manager and the software is up to date and the device is working normally. I can make DVD movies using a free program called DVD Flick. DVD Flick recognizes the DVD burner, so why won't Windows DVD Maker work??

    Hi Ppprrrggg,
The following information was copied from Troubleshoot problems with creating a DVD-Video using Windows DVD Maker
My DVD failed to burn. What can I do?
Try one or more of the following:
Verify that the DVD burner is connected properly to your computer and powered on, and that any necessary software drivers for the DVD burner are installed. You can check your hardware settings in the Device Manager by doing the following:
    1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2.
    Click Hardware and Sound.
    3.
    Click Device Manager.
Make sure that the videos you're trying to burn are not corrupted. To see whether the videos you want to burn are corrupted, try playing or viewing them using Windows Media Player. If the files don't play using the Player, Windows DVD Maker cannot burn them.
Choose a slower burning speed for your DVD burner by doing the following:
    1.
Return to the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, and then click Options.
    2.
In the DVD burner speed box, select Medium or Slow.
     Does it work?
    Thanks .
I uninstalled DVD Flick and followed the steps above but no luck.....any other ideas??? Apart from the fact that Windows DVD Maker SHOULD work I find it extra annoying because I think it is a very good program....it's better than DVD Flick, and besides not wanting to fork out money I would prefer to have nothing to do with programs like Nero.
    Hi,
When you click DVD Maker-what exactly happens?Or what kind of error is?
    when i click dvd
when I click dvd burner I select videos 2 burn.....videos I can watch on windows media player. After selecting the slowest burn speed I click on ''burn'' just like I do on my 7 year old desktop (which will then burn a dvd movie). But on this notebook I get a little window......''windows dvd maker''. It reads ''dvd burner not found. A dvd burner was not found. Make sure a dvd burner is connected and installed then try again.'' How useless is that???!!! I find it hard to believe this problem cannot be solved. Also I don't believe I can make the problem any clearer!!! Windows has no problem finding the dvd drive if I want to burn a data dvd so how come I can't burn a dvd movie using windows??? please help!!!!!

  • DVD Drive crashes my computer

I seem to have a problem with my dvd drive. A lot of the time when I put in a dvd movie, I will get a kernal panic (semi-transparent black screen forcing me to reboot) when it tries to read the dvd, forcing me to reboot. I have also had a few problems in the middle of burning dvd's and then get a kernal panic there too. I never get kernal panics at any other time. Do you think my ram is faulty? How do I test the ram? What else can I do?

    Well, thar she blows.
I just dropped my MacBook off at an Apple Store for a likely logic board replacement, airport card replacement, and bottom case replacement. Gonna get shipped off to the bozo's in TN most likely (*heavy sigh*).
I'll report what happens when the computer comes back.
The good news is that as I soon as I opened the computer and launched DVD Player, it KPed like a champ for the Genius.
Remind me why we like Apple products so much?
No, I know, they are slick, and work well, and nothing is perfect. Expecting anything to be flawless is just silly. It's just that 4 of the last 4 Mac laptops I've had have had some failure within the first 6 months. Good that it's within 1 year, but 100% failure rate isn't so good. But I keep coming back. Who's laughing?
My Wallstreet kicked ***. And the 12" G4 was bad-***, too. The Wallstreet never had an issue (that wasn't user caused...).
Good luck everyone. I'll report back.
    More sigh.
(MacBook Air is kinda cool. It is thin, so maybe it's small in the dimensions that matter most. I mean, if you're using a briefcase, thinness is going to be the most noticeable dimension, right? They don't make briefcases that are smaller widthxlength than a piece of paper. So what good is a 9"x7" laptop that's an inch thick? Just musing...)

  • Using LightScribe DVD drive on another computer

Hello! I was wondering if it is at all possible to use the built in LightScribe DVD drive that came with my relative's computer (it's a PC) to burn a DVD I made in iDVD. Is there a way for my Mac to recognize the DVD burner in the other computer if I hook it up to mine using USB or something?
    Thanks

I think you might have to change the extension to: .iso
    This might help:

  • I'm installing a printer on a MacBook Air via USB connected DVD drive.  The computer asks for my password.  I don't hink we ever had one.  Is there a default password ("admin"

I'm installing a printer on a MacBook Air using an external DVD drive via USB.  The computer is asking for my password to authorize changes to the system.  I don't htink I ever put one on the computer and "admin" and "password" don't work.  Is there a default password?  Or a way to change a password that has been forgotten, wothout resetting the computer and wiping everything out?  Thanks.

Many thanks.  As it happens, I wen to the local Apple Store today for an appointment with a "genius".  She helped me reset the password. And as I look at the screens on the page that you connected me to, they're the same as the genius used.  So your suggesstion was right on the money, and now I'm all set.  Thanks again.

  • No CD/DVD drive in my computer

I just bought a new imac and they dont have a CD/DVD drive. How do I download and install my new Adobe CS6 Design Standard Student version on to my computer? I have been told that I can download the trial version but enter my product key and it will download it not as a trial version...but I couldnt find the trial version of the Adobe Suite that I have. Help?

They do make it difficult to find.  Go here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/designstandard.html
If that fails, you can download the trial version of the software from the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

  • DVD Drive stalls/crashes computer

Having some odd problems with my DVD drive in my G5 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core.
If I put a DVD in the tray the DVD player launches and the DVD window is completely screwed up. The perspective is screwy and the image is mangled as well. It also stall my OS so I get the spinning beach ball of death. To get a DVD to load (just the disk image, bypassing DVD Player) I have to put it in the drive and then do a crash restart using the power button.
    What gives? Any ideas?

    Hi-
Yes, by using Firewire Target Disk Mode, or, by connecting the two by ethernet, and installing the software to the G4 by your ethernet "network".

  • Cd/dvd drive no longer in bios-satellite a75 s206

I searched around here for a fix, guess I'm stuck-drive works in two other laptops, recognized as dvd drive, plays dvd's-tried the microsoft fix, but the filters mentioned don't exist in my registry in the location that's given-cdgone was no help-downloaded and installed the drivers given on toshibas' site for this model-bios was done as well-nothing was working, so I tried a new motherboard-same problem-hope someone can shed some light on this-have the system recovery disc, but it's of no use without a drive-please help...

It is a bad piece of hardware. You have eliminated all other possibilities. You need to replace the optical drive. In the meantime you can install the software across a network by making the optical drive on another computer within the network shared and access the files on the disk from the laptop. Or you can get a usb dvd drive or you can copy the contents of the cd onto a flash drive and install from there.
