No charge from magsafe adapter

I hate to post a new topic when it looks like hundreds of people have this problem, but none of the methods posted seem to have worked for me.
The other day I was using my macbook when i realized that the battery power was decreasing even though it was plugged in. I checked the power source, all seemed connected well, but the little green/amber light wasn't showing up on my magsafe adapter.
Eventually all of the battery power was used up and the computer turned off.
I have plugged this cord into about a hundred different places, tried other people's power cords... nothing.
I took the computer to a genius bar a few hours ago. They plugged in their adapter to my computer, and miraculously, it started charging again. Then they tried my adapter, and it, too, started working. We charged it up to 10% and then I was on my way, feeling a tad like an idiot, since everything seemed to work just fine at the genius bar.
Now I am back at home, and the **** thing isn't charging at all... again. And the 10% charge that I had saved up at the Apple store is gone... again.
No charge, no anything.
What should I do?

My MacBook works only with the Adaptor....and I've bougth it in the july 2007...
From the shell..if I write:
ioreg -w0 -l | grep Capacity
the result is:
| | "MaxCapacity" = 0
| | "LegacyBatteryInfo" = {"Capacity"=0,"Amperage"=0,"Cycle Count"=0,"Current"=0,"Voltage"=0,"Flags"=1}
| | "CurrentCapacity" = 0
My model of Battery begins with A1185....so battery serial number does not match any of the ranges listed in the Battery Exchange Program (Apple is voluntarily recalling the affected batteries and has initiated a worldwide exchange program to provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge)...can you HELP ME?

  • Late Macbook Pro 2011 won't charge via MagSafe adapter.

My friends Macbook Pro 2011 same as mine wont charge the battery via MagSafe adapter. The battery is good and the adapter also, ive checked them on my Mac. The problem is that on her Mac it won't charge. I've change the MagSafe adapter on her computer and it didn't work still no charge, no green light on the L shaped adapter. Can it be the Logic Board?

Resetting SMC could solve the problem.

  • 5G will not charge from wall adapter

My new 15 gig 5G will not charge from a 5 volt wall adapter. It charges fine on the USB port on my computers.
So I decided to take a USB extension and cut it an place a current meter in series with the 5 Volt on the USB line. What I found is that it will draw ~500ma with the data lines connected in the cable(in other words a normal cable). Now if I disconnect the data wires so that I am only connecting the 5 volts from the USB port it will draw ~100 ma for a second and then draw no current. It appears that some kind of handshaking is required. Is this normal?
As it is now I will not be able to ever charge it from a 5 volt supply.Do they do something to the data lines on wall adapters?

Well I finally got my "dumb" USB charger (a Belkin F8Z009 Power pack) to work with my iPod 5G 30GB. To wake up the 5G needs to see 2.5 volts on it's data lines. The easiest way to do this is with a voltage divider made with two equal resistors. Like this:
As a poof of concept I made the device below with four 30K resistors but anything from 10K to 50K should work fine.
A more compact wake up cable could be made by cutting into a standard USB male-female extension cable and soldering in four resistors like this:
Of course if your building your own or can get your "dumb" USB charger open then the resistor voltage dividers can go inside.

  • IPhone 3G won't charge from car adapter when battery is low

I regularly use my Griffin car charger to charge my iPhone 3G. It seems to work well most of the time.
When my iPhone 3G is very low on battery charge, I discovered that the the iPhone will no longer charge via the car charger. Only way I can recharge the iPhone is via the cable connected directly to my computer or via the wall adapter.
Is this a normal behavior? Very unfortunate if it is since forcing a mobile user to connect to a wall outlet or a computer makes no sense.

Copied from my previous post in this thread.
I know if the iPhone's internal temperature if over a designated temp, you can't charge the battery until the internal temp has been reduced. This is protection for the battery and internal components since charging increases the internal temp.
When this occurs, the charging indicator will switch to showing as being fully charged.
    Are you using a case?
Charging increases the internal temp of the iPhone, and using GPS will also increase the internal temp of the iPhone. Combined must have increased the internal temp of your iPhone past the designated temp when charging stops. Using a case can prevent heat from being dissipated properly.

  • MBP DOES NOT charge from magsafe -- 2007

My MacBook pro (2007 I think) does not charge fro the magsafe charger.  I took the battery to the apple store, told them the problem,  and asked them to tell me if the battery needed replacing.  They said yes, and I bought a new battery.
I put in the new battery, booted the computer, and it showed 44% (the same as the old battery last showed).  I ran the computed down to 33%, then plugged in the magsafe.
The magsafe showed the green diode -- fully charged --.  After one half hour with the computer turned off and charging, the battery still showed 33%.
    Any ideas?
    Ken

You are correct. Good point on the charging.
Given that the MPB works without the batt, it sounds more like the MagSafe board than the power adapter:

If you can get your hands on another power adapter or bring the MBP into an Apple Store to try one there, that should answer the question.

  • Loud "crack" sound from 2006 MBP, now will not charge from Magsafe PS

While using my 2006 MBP 2.33 C2D , there was a sudden loud "crack" / "pop" sound. I then noticed that the green charging light on the magsafe power adaptor had gone out. So i checked the mains socket, and everything there was OK. I then tried plugging the Magasfe adaptor into different power sockets, and still nothing.
I also tried the MBP with a spare magsafe adaptor i have, and that also fails to light the green light on the side to show any charge/power.
At the moment the MBP still works but is running off whats left on the battery charge.
So i'm guessing the "crack" sound I heard was some interal fusein the MBP  blowing?
Any ideas? Could it be serious and an easy fix?  In the past I have changed the HD, optical drive etc so am fairly ok at a bit of DIY on the MBP.

With the light on the Magsafe charger being out, I tend to suspect it rather then the MBP.
You might take the Magsafe charger to the Apple Store and see if they can test it for you. If it is bad, buy a new one. If not, then it would have to be the MBP.

  • My 2008 Macbook only charges when it's sleeping. When it's awake, the MagSafe adapter blinks green on and off. I've cleaned the connectors and the problem is still there.

This is a recent problem, only since I updated the last security update from apple has this been happening. No matter where I plug the laptop in (as in, no matter the power source), the magsafe adapter glows green like it's going to charge, that lasts roughly a second and my mac behaves as if it's going to charge (different status bar indicator and brightness jumps).. aaand then the green light shuts off completely, mac brightness & status indicators go back to normal.  Then the light comes back on, then shuts off, rinse, repeat.  When I put the mac to sleep or shut it down completely, then plug the magsafe in, it works and charges just fine. But then the second I wake the mac up, the orange charge light shuts off and it goes into the green light loop again.  Weird issue, just putting it out there to see if anyone's had that happen before and can offer tips. I've tried resetting the SMC and removing the battery when it's shut down, btw. Halp!

    Hello brixton81,

  • Will apple replace the L shape MagSafe Adapter the pins are sticking causing late 2011 macbook not to receive charge.

Will apple replace the L shape MagSafe Adapter? The pins are sticking causing my late 2011 macbook not to receive charge.

Yes, Apple will replace it if you are still under warranty. Otherwise, as in my case, you will have to buy a new one.
I purchased my MacBook Air July of 2011.  Approximately four months later the adapter stopped working. I brought my MacBook and the adapter to the Genius bar. The adapter was replaced because it was under warranty. To make sure the problem was not something I did as I didn’t want to duplicate, I inquired and was told some adapters just have problems.  After two weeks, I noticed the rubber coating to the wire bunched up on the L end that connects to the MacBook Air on the replacement adapter. I returned to the store and was assured that my concern was unwarranted and that since the adapter was working fine I was fine and that if it stopped working I could just return it. On 11/22/12 it was not getting power. I returned to the store. After being asked where I returned the adapter when I originally had the problem (same store) I was informed that the replacement adapter was only covered for three months, to be happy it lasted as long as it did, and I would need to buy a new one for $61. However, the store didn’t have the adapter I needed and could buy the 60W adapter for $79. I was told I could go up, just not down. Before leaving, however, I asked if I was doing something wrong with the adapter and how long the new one was covered for. He inspected the nonworking adapter, pointed at the where the wire connects to the base and said no, usually people have their cords pulled from here but yours looks fine. On the plus side, the rubber coating around the wire of the new adapter appears thicker with no chance of sliding and bunching up. Glad Apple fixed this issue.

  • Magsafe Adapter show amber light but it's not charging.

I have a problem with my Macbook Air (Mid 2011), when I plug the Magsafe AC Power Adapter sometimes just doesn't charge the battery, sometimes shows the green light and sometimes the amber light.
I tried restarting the SMC, also I tried to use other Magsafe Adapter. Even I tested the Magsafe with another Macbook and works fine.
I already cleaned both ports with a toothbrush.
I don't know what else I can do. Please help me.

Do you have a friend with a MacBook? If so try their power adapter and see if that works. If it does then you have a bad power adapter. And check this Apple Support article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713

  • Recently when I want to charge my Macbook Pro, ok Pro 13" with my Magsafe adapter, it charges for a few seconds and then it stops as soon as my MBP found the remaining charging time.. I haven't done anything to my adapter.

    Hi all
The last couple of days when I wanted to charge my Macbook Pro 13", my magsafe adapter stopped working when my MBP found the remaining charging time.
When I charge my MBP with another adapter, it works fine.
What can I do? Do I have to go back to the store? It is only four months old.

sounds like a funky charger, go to the store and try anoher if it messes up have it replaced. They've been having issuses wuth the new charger

  • 4th Gen. ipod. No longer charges from wall socket. Still can charge from computer. Wall power adapter and cord both work fine on other devices. Wall Why?

4th Generation ipod. Used to charge fine from wall socket (cord and USB adapter) and could also charge on the computer. Suddenly stopped charging from the wall. The same cord and adapter still work for my iphone, so there is not problem with either of them. What has changed? Why won't the ipod charge from the wall anymore? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks! It didn't actually work with the one I was using to charge the computer either. We had tried the computer cable with the power adapter, and it didn't  work to charge the ipod, though it does charge my iphone. Following your idea further,  I waited for my husband to get home from a trip and tried one of his extra cables he keeps in his backpack. That cable worked in with the USB  power adaptor. I had thought that because the cable I use on my computer charges my iphone through the USB power adapter or the computer, and that it charged the ipod through the computer that it was fully functional. Apparantly not.  Thanks again.

  • Why can't I charge my 5G from AC adapter

Can APPLE answer this once and for all. Why can't I charge my IPOD 5G Video (30g) from a AC USB adapter ??? I can only seem to charge it from a PC USB port. Sometimes it does seem to want to charge from the AC Adapter but very slowly ? Is is a firmware problem ??? I also tried using a cig ligher USB adapter in the car and that doesn't work either (have tried different cables and different adapters so that isn't the problem)...

hello everyone I just want to know if you guys can help me my ipad2 will not take a charge from my iphone 5 charger adapter please any solutions will be helpful to me thank you.

  • Macbook won't take charge from the charger it came with.  But WILL take a charge from older generation chargers.

My Macbook will only charge from an older model charger.  The charger that came with the laptop, after the computer overheated dramatically, is suddenly not working.  The weird thing is, the Apple store tried several chargers out just now, including a brand new one, and what we discovered is that the older model chargers work fine, but the newer model chargers (which used to work perfectly) are indeed recognized by the Macbook (there is a little plug/'charging' symbol in the top right) but there is also a message next to the symbol, in parenthesis, stating that the Macbook is "Not Charging".  Any idea what this could mean?  The Apple store said the computer passed all of their rigorous tests... but obviously something is wrong... so they gave me two options: they could either replace the Magsafe unit ($50), or they could send the computer to the "Depot" to have any parts that are malfunctioning changed at one flat fee ($280).  What do I do?  Because I don't want to pay $280 for a new Magsafe unit when I can get it for $50.  But if this is a logic board problem, then obviously I should send it in to the Depot-- but what if they run more tests and decide the logic board is fine?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    my ginger,
I did the shift-control-option + power SMU reset.  (My Macbook has an internal battery so I couldn't remove it.)  Nothing changed as a result of that though.
I checked to see if the battery and adapter are being recognized.  This is what it said (cut-and-pasted below).  Let me know what you think.
I wonder if the wattage difference in the adapters is what is making the difference... And if so, what that might mean in terms of damage done.  Hmmm.
Thanks again for your help.  Much appreciated.
