No charging with computer on

If I use my MacBook Pro for a while with battery (more than 50% full), and then I plug it to charge the battery, led goes green, then orange (charging) and then off. No way to charge the computer. I need then to shut down the computer wait a while and plug again the cord for charging (with the computer off).
Any ideas?.
Thanks.

You don't mention if you have a MBP which needed to have the battery replace.
Have a look at these two articles to see if they help:

  • 2G iPod Touch won't synch or charge with computer.

I have a 2nd gen. iPod Touch and when i plug it into my computer it won't recognize it, charge it, or synch it. The only thing that happens when you plug it in is the computer makes 3 fast, same pitched tones. It's kind of like when you would normally plug it in and it makes those two tones. Anyway, so I thought maybe it was the cord so I got another chord and it didn't make a difference. I reinstalled iTunes and it made no difference. I restarted, and then restored my iPod and tried it again and it didn't work. I made sure it was fully charged too, to no avail. Finally I plugged in my iPod Video and it was recognized by the computer immediately so I know that it's a problem with the iPod touch. But the iPod Touch still works with my iHome. I have no idea what it could be. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Actually you are in a better position than some are with this problem. I would back up my iTunes library and then remove it completely from my computer. Use the info in this article to remove iTunes:

Then download the latest copy of iTunes and install that. That generally will fix it.

  • Ipod not recognised by computer & won't charge (with computer or adapter)

    Hi,
When I try to charge my 30G ipod video with my apple adapter, it does absolutely nothing. When I hook it up to my computer, it won't turn up in 'my computer' or itunes and i get the message that the USB-device can't be recognised. On another computer i get the message that I've caused an electricity overdose (sorry for my bad translation from dutch) on the USB input. Other ipods can be recognides by my computer. I've installed the latest version of itunes.
I've been to the apple store and when they try to charge it there with their adapter it does charges, so i thought my adapter was broken, but it does charge any other ipod. With my dad's (not apple) adapter i can't charge my ipod as well.
I hope someone knows a solution to this problem. I've already tried resetting and putting it in disk mode, but nothing works.

  • Ipod wont charge with computer

    Ipod wont work

    Does iTunes see the iPod?
    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • TS2771 My iPod touch will only charge through computer, new wall charger will not charge it, but charges other iPods

My sons iPod touch will only charge with computer. This has happened since update. Wall charger charges other iPods/iPhone. Restored to original defaults. And still does not work.

I believe it started with the update prior to 5.1.1.  I just udated it to the 5.1.1, thinking it would resolve the problem.

  • My iphone5 wont charge with usb port but works fine with wall plug... Infact computer. Doesn't recognizes the iphone

Battery not charging with usb port but works fine with wall plug.. So the prob is computer is not detecting the iphone5 . This problem started after upgrading to 6.1.3 version

Try to see what happens on another computer. If it works on another computer, the issue is not at the iPhone.

  • 2nd Gen Shuffles charge with power adapter, not seen at all by computer

I have three Gen 2 Shuffles (mine and kids), and am having same problem with all three.
If I plug them into either of our home computers - an iMac and a brand  new Macbook Pro - they don't even seem to be recognized at all by the computer as even being plugged in, nor will they charge. The orange light flashes on for a split second when I plug in the USB cord, then goes out.  Nothing else happens.  I have two USB cords - same with both.
If I plug the same USB cords into the power adapter and plug into the wall outlet - all three iPods charge, with either cord.  So the cords seem to be working fine.
If I plug the USB cord into my work PC - a Dell that doesnt' even have iTunes on it -- the computer recognizes the iPod as a disk.  I've done this many times for many years to charge it at work if it was low, with no problems.  And I haven't plugged the kids' into my work computer.
I am pulling my hair out here. I've read about others with a similar problem -- but in those cases at least the iPod seemed to be communicating with the mac, but not showing up in iTunes.  In my case, I can't even get anything to happen!!
    Would really appreciate any advice.
Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 10.5.8, and Macbook Pro bought last week with OS-X Lion.

    Nobody has any ideas?

  • My iPhone 3G charges with a charger, but not when connected via USB to my computer and iTunes doesn't recognize it.

Hello, my iPhone charges when I charge it with the wall plug but not when connected to a computer via USB and my iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone either. iTunes recognizes my iPod and iPad just fine. I have been to Apple iPhone support page and I have restarted my iPhone, the computer, tried different USB ports, etc. I have also tried my iPhone on different macs even with different versions of iTunes and no luck. This all started when I was cleaning out some lint from the usb connector, could I have damaged some part of the docking connection? But why does it charge with a wall plug then?

I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

  • When my phone is not plugged into the charger or computer, it will not turn on at all; even though it is not dead. When it's plugged into the computer, it will go to a white screen with a grey apple icon and then it will turn off again and repeat. IOS7

Try this step and if you cannot get your device into recovery mode there is a chance you have a hardware failure and you need to call apple to see what service options you have.

  • 8100 Pearl will ONLY charge with USB from Computer

Is anyone else having this problem? The wall charger or car charger doesn't work at all. It only charges when I connect to my computer, and even then it takes all night since the Blackberry gives a message saying 'insufficient current.'
I've tried several different wall-chargers but I don't get anything. What gives?

I have the same problem.  I noticed a few days ago that my wall charger #1 was not working. So I used the car charger ok. Then I tried wall charger #2 and it didnt work either. I swapped the usb cable from the charger and that didnt work.  I then used that usb cable and plugged it in to the laptop and now the BB is being charged. It also charges with the car charger.
If anyone has a solution please help!

  • TS3297 Ipad 1 won't charge with adapter, will it work if I connect to a computer?

My first gen ipad isn't charging with any adapters so Im wondering what I can try before going for a new battery. Any advice?

Are you using the adaptor that came with it? You cannot charge the battery from a computer's USB port or from an iPhone/iPod charger.

  • HT1459 not charging through computer or wall adapter

my brand new ipod touch won't charge through computer or wall adapter please help?????

When I connect my new 80G iPod to my computer, it
syncs, but it doesn't seem to be charging. The icon
is a steady green with a picture of a plug, but when
unplugged the battery is near empty. Shouldn't the
icon flash and show a lightening bolt when charging?
That's what it does when I charge from the wall.
Why isn't my charging through the computer?
    Thanks.
    Sheldon
I figured it out. I had the iPod plugged into a USB hub, but since it's an unpowered hub, the iPod won'charge through it. When I go directly to the computer, all is well.

  • IPod Touch: charging with Windows 2000 SP3?

    Hello,
I've got an iPod Touch 2nd generation, and I'm a mac user.
At work, I have a Windows 2000 PC, Service Pack 3. I wanted to use this windows machine to charge (with USB) my Touch, but it didn't work directly. So I tried to download iTunes, but it requires SP4 at least.
What can I do? The PC isn't able to give energy to the USB port, if the device isn't recognized?
    Thanks for any help
    Frederic

The following applies to XP and I assume Vista, but I am not sure if this option was in 2000 or not. But you can check...
Well one thing you can try it telling you computer to leave the USB ports on all the time. XP (and I assume Vista) has a power saving mode where the USB ports are powered down if they are not in use by the operating system. I think that is the default mode. This is more of a setting beneficial to Laptops, but if you have a desktop, you might want to disable to power saving modes.
Start -> Control Panels -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device manager
In the window that opens, expand (click on the sign) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
You will see a number of things in that list. You want to RIGHT-Click on the "USB Root Hub" one. I am not sure if you have more than one if they still point to the same one, but open and change each to be sure. Anyway, right-click it, in the pop up menu pick Properties. In the next screen, pick the Power Management tab. There is a check box to "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power". I think default is checked, so that the ports power down. You want to unselect that box forcing your USB ports to stay powered up all the time.

  • IPod won't charge with Apple dock

For some reason, overnight, my Apple dock no longer charges my iPod touch. I set my iPod in the dock and the yellow caution sign pops up and says that charging is not supported with this accessory. I did not update any software whatsoever on my computer or iPod, and up until this time, the dock worked just fine to charge my iPod. I tried powering down my iPod, restarting my Mac, and cleaning the connector on the dock with a q-tip dipped in alcohol. Nothing worked. The only thing I can think to do is reset my iPod. Any other solutions to try to get my iPod to charge via the dock?
