No checkbox for wifi sync

I have a old Power Mac G5 1.8 dual. It runs 10.5.8 Leopard. I also have an iPad 2. I am using the just-released iOS 5 on the iPad, and iTunes 10.5 on the Mac.
When I plug in the iPad, under the summary tab in iTunes, there is supposed to be a checkbox for syncing with WiFi under "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected." But there is no checkbox, and because of this, I cannot sync over WiFi. Is there a reason I doon't have this checkbox?
Is it because Apple doesn't love my Mac anymore? Say it ain't so!

I have the same problem, only with a Mac Book Pro and iPhone 4.
I'm also running Leopard.
Is it because Apple doesn't love Leopard perhaps?

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.

  • ITunes has stopped recognising my iPhone4 over wifi for wifi sync

I have an iPhone4 recently updated to iOS5. After updating the iOS, automatic wifi sync worked, the iPhone would be recognised by iTunes when i connected the phone to a charger. However recently this has stopped working, i plug it into my charger and the phone does not pop up on iTunes. I have to connect the iPhone to my pc for it to come up on iTunes. Why have i lost the ability to auto wifi sync all of a sudden?!?!?!?!?!?!

That's too bad, thanks for sharing.

Google search has explained to me that this is related to Bonjour but nothing further. I have done the 'usual' - booted in safe mode, repaired permissions, updated software, reinstalled Mountain Lion via Disc Recovery, restarted my modem etc.
Before I just wipe the hard drive and start again from scratch, maybe there's something obvious I'm not doing? Every other device in the house (2 x Iphones, 2 x Ipads, 1 Apple TV, 2 wifi radios and 1 other IMac desktop) have no problems with the wifi network.

I am having similar issue.  Getting these same 24 error messages everytime I start iTunes. Sharing is already off.

  • HT1386 iPhone and iPad don't always appear in iTunes for wifi sync, why? Sometimes, when my phone and ipad are both turned on and I open iTunes it shows "2 devices" in iTunes and I can sync. Often one or neither will show up, no matter what I do.

I can sync my iphone and ipad over wifi using itunes, but not always. In fact quite frequently neither shows up in itunes. I try to reboot them and sometimes they show up, but not all the time. I have tried rebooting iphone and ipad, the computer, checking and unchedking "sync over wifi," etc.
Nothing changes. Very often one or both do not show up to be synced. they work find if connected by usb cable, but not over wifi.
    any help would be appreciated.

So far I've found the only remedy is to reboot my server (Mavericks Server is my OS).
Clearly there is some system service getting hosed.  If I can figure out which service to kill and let launchd restore the service, I can save some grief.

  • TS4062 my iphone 4 has mild water damage and will not sync with cable.I want to sync it over wifi to reload data I deleted during my troubleshooting, but I did not set up for wifi sync before the damage. Is there a way that this can be done now ?

My iphone 4 has mild water damage. As a result, it will not sync with it's former XP computer with the cable. I deleted the phone's data in the troubleshooting process. I want to get it back by syncing over wifi, but I did not set up this capability before the damage occured.is there another way to initiate this feature ? I can tell that they are connecting in the cloud because an app I just downloaded on the phone is showing up in itunes on the computer.

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • No hope for wifi sync.

Hello, i have 2 problems. im just getting to the point because i havent had any luck in finding anything to help me. i need to connect itunes but my usb ports to my laptop dont work, but it has wireless capeabilities, but i havent synced my Iphone4 for the Wi-Fi Sync. is there an app or something that can help me somehow wireless-ly connect to my laptop. havent connected to itunes in a few months. thanks

iTunes does not connect to USB ports, it is a application that runs on the computer.
An iPhone cannot be setup to Wi-Fi sync without first syncing via a cable to the computer.
Let's start at the beginning.  What happens why plugging the device into the computer via the sync cable and attempting to sync?

  • How does wifi sync work?

Hi.  From what I have read, iTunes will automatically sync with iOS5 devices if they are plugged in to electricity (and if you have set up your device to sync over wifi, and if iTunes and the device are on the same wifi network).  But when does the auto sync occur?  Once a day?  Multiple times per day?  What triggers the sync to start?  Thx

    Gooood morning;
It' s realy very simple. If you don' t forget to enable the checkbox for wifi sync in Itunes on your computer.
If you did so and you have the ipad plugged in to electricity, then you can see in the preferences from the ipad that the checkbox for synchronisation is active. Push on it and the synchronisation will start and end later automaticaly. I tried it three times on an evening and no problems.....
It only toke me only 2 weeks to find out how!!! hi hi. The reaseon was I forgot to activate the wifi possibility on my mac.

  • ITunes WiFi sync not working after Lion reinstall

    Hello all,
Here is the situation. Wifi syncing was working superbly well for both my iPhone and my iPad. They could be upstairs while I was downstairs in my office and I would see them both in iTunes and could sync them at will. Great stuff!
Until yesterday. I bought a new hard drive for my Macbook Pro, installed Lion on it and imported all of my apps and settings on it. Everythings works fine EXCEPT for wifi syncing. When I plug my devices to the USB cable I see them appear in the iTunes sidebar but I soon as I disconnect them, POOF! They're gone!
The checkbox IS checked. I tried unchecking it, syncing via USB, rechecking it an resyncing to no avail. I just can't get the darned thing to work again!
Both devices and the laptop have been restarted multiple times.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Can't believe it was so simple.
I just restarted my Mac and everything came back to normal.
Ok then sorry for the disturbance, move along, nothing to see here.

  • IPhone 4 no longer recognized by computer after turning off wifi sync

I've been having trouble with my brother's iPhone 4 syncing to our desktop computer. When I realized it was set for wifi sync I turned it off; now the computer won't even recognize the device. I know it's not the usb port because I've pluggen in other devices (GPS and memory sticks) and they all work just fine. The computer makes the sound when something connects when I plug in the iPhone but it doesn't appear anywhere or even register on the phone or the computer that it's plugged in. Can anyone help me out with this?

  • ITunes wifi sync on Windows 7 64-bit

I know there are many many threads on wifi syncing being unreliable, especially when running iTunes on windows.  I've been trying to get wifi syncing to work to my Windows 7 (64-bit) machine ever since it came out a year ago and I've finally got it working reliably.  For me the answer was to enable SNMP (through add/remove windows components).  I'm assuming SNMP is a required component for wifi syncing to work correctly.  If this is the case why doesn't apple advertise this fact?  There is no mention of SNMP in the support article on wifi syncing.  Is iTunes supposed to enable SNMP at install, and somehow it failed on my machine?  Or is SNMP not required, and it's only a coincidence that somehow turning it on on my machine fixed some other configuration problem?
In any case I hope that this post can help some other people fix their wifi sync problems.

SNMP has nothing to do with iTunes.  I think you are looking at a coincidence.

  • My iphone will not wifi sync

Im trying to get my iphone 5 to wifi sync with my macbook pro but its not doing it
I have tried everything i can think of:
    -iphone is plugged in
    -itunes is open
-itunes(when phone was plugged in) is checked for wifi sync
-the apple ID's are the same
-they are connected to same wifi
The weird thing is that when i remove the usb cable, after my phone is plugged in, the device disappears which im pretty sure isnt supposed to happen. If i go to the top bar > devices i can see the name of my iphone but its greyed out and unselectable.
If im using a school network(which requires a login) would that affect the sync even though the phone and laptop are both connected?
CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIX THIS???

  • WiFi sync: iPad 3 works, iPhone 4 is not detected, both on iOS 5.1.1

I recently realized that my iPhone isn't showing up in iTunes for wifi sync. I tried plugging it directly into my macbook, but that actually made it stop charging from my Mophie battery case and still didn't let the phone show in the devices panel (I'm using a USB wall wart to charge my phone from, my macbook can still charge my iPad 3 just fine. I've tried restarting them both, resetting the network settings, I can't figure out what the problem is nor how to fix it. I'm using an Airport Extreme base station as a wireless bridge to a wired router/modem combo. My iPad 3 works just fine over wifi, yet my iPhone 4, despite being on the same network and in the same room, isn't connected at all and the two devices (Macbook and iPhone) don't seem to be aware of each others existence.

I have the EXACT same setup, router, iDevices, etc. Same problem. Shows up when I use the cable, disappears when I unplug it. I have gone through all the troubleshooting, and yes, the wifi sync setting is enabled in iTunes. Incredibly frustrating.
