No checkmarks in itunes 10?

when i updated to itunes 10, i noticed that a bunch more songs got synced to my itouch than should have. i looked around and found that there were no checkmarks on any of my songs. ive read that there is a checkmark column but i cant find it anywhere. i also went to view -> view options and there was no option for a checkmark column. is there some other place that i am missing that enables checkmarks or did i misread and there actually is no checkmark column?
also, the first time i started up itunes 10, the items in the sidebar on the left all had little icons next to them, but after i started itunes for a second time all the icons went away. is there anyway to fix this?

iTunes prefs General - *Show list checkboxes*.
It's generally better to create specific playlists for the iPod, add/delete from those playlists and Sy*nc selected playlists*.
Selec the iPod in iTunes.
Click the Music tab.
Select *Sync music*.
Select *Sync Selected playlists* and tick the playlists you want.
You can also drag songs to the iPod and they will show up in the Music tab at the very bottom under *Manually added songs*.

  • Checkmarks in iTunes Podcasts list

In the iTunes Library, the Podcasts list has a checkmark column.  What does the checkmark mean?  I can't find an explanation anywhere.  TIA for the information.

    Thanks for the info.
I downloaded a bunch of items in one of my podcasts, and they all showed up without checkmarks.  Is there a way to checkmark all at once, or do I have to check each one individually?
    TIA again for an answer.

  • HT2729 Lost all my checkmarks on iTunes

I was editing multiple songs that were duplications.  These songs are on my iTunes Widows based OS.  Somehow in this process, ALL of the check marks have dissaperared from over 8000 songs.  How do I make the checkmarks reapear with out manually clicking the small box 8000 times?  I can not fine a select all feature in the tools.

Hold the CTRL key and click any one of the empty boxes.
Note added:  I assume you mean that the boxes are still there but have no check marks?  If you mean the boxes themselves have disappeared, then the solution is different:  go to Edit > Preferences > General, and check "Show list checkboxes."

  • Continuous play in iTunes

When I use iTunes on my pc (IBM Windows XP Pro), the songs do not play continuously like they do on my family's wintel PC. I always have to manually play the next song. I am sure that it some simple setting. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
    IBM laptop   Windows XP Pro

You need to checkmark them. iTunes will only continue on to the next checked track, so if none are checked, it will only play individual tracks. To check them all at once, hold down the Control key and check one of the tracks.

  • ITunes 8 will not install

Since my old iPod died I invested in a new iPod Classic only to learn that I had to upgrade to iTunes 8 to use it. Unfortunately after trying everything suggested in this and other forums, I have had no success in getting iTunes 8 to install. When I click on the installer package it simply displays the Windows Installer Help Screen - no error messages, no clues, no installation.
I know, my Windows installer is probably trashed and I have been to the Microsoft forums etc. to try to fix that one. That has not worked out either- and in an attempt to reinstall/repair installer it put me into a situation where I could only boot up in safe mode. It took a weekend to recover from that one.
So- I am asking if there are any other fresh ideas out there on how to get iTunes 8 to install?
OR - is there any way to get my new iPod to download music from the old iTunes 7 which works just fine?
I am just a hard working chemist who actually developed some of the neat plastics that enable things like PCs and Macs and iPods to even exist. I'm just looking for a simple way to listen to my music wtihout having to become a computer engineer too.

I can't claim that I solved the problem but I found a way around it.
    SOLUTION:
I ran the itunessetup by right clicking and selecting the "Run as" Option. On the window that opens I removed the checkmark from the box stating "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity". Removing the checkmark allowed iTunes to install without a problem.
At long last I have a funtioning iPod again!

  • ITunes copying same songs and apps every sync

Every single time I sync my iPhone 4s (iOS 6) to iTunes 11 (OS 10.6.8) it copies the same songs and apps to my iTunes. Like right now it says "Syncing Danielle's iPhone (Step 5 of 5)" and right below that "Copying 8 of 10: MC3" (which stands for the app, Modern Combat 3). No more than 5 minutes ago I was syncing my iPhone and it was copying that app (it takes forever too because it's a big file). All I changed was adding some calendar events on my macbook in iCal then I wanted to sync it again real quick and it's copying all of these files again that it just did.
One of the problems could be that I have it removed from my iPhone but it's still checkmarked in iTunes? I can't see how that would be practical though. I would think that if I deleted a song on my iPhone, or deleted an app, that when it connected to iTunes next it would make a note that I don't want it on my phone anymore. Anyone know the source of the issue?

Some other program is interfering with itunes saving its database file.
    iTunes Library.itl
This is really common for Sony Vaio users running Vista. Either disable the Vaio's music service program (VCFw.exe), or uninstall it, as Evert Yntema chose to do.
    See this post
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8545376&#8545376
And for folks who don't have a Vaio, the next biggest culprit is security or backup software scanning the itunes folders. You need to configure
    Norton/Symantec
    McAfee
    Kaspersky
    ESET NOD
    IObits
    Windows Live OneCare
    Carbonit
    Mozy
or whatever software you've got installed to ignore the itunes folder or specifically, that ITL file.
If you're getting tons of TMP files, something is interfering with itunes saving the ITL file. A workaround is to same that ITL file to a different folder or USB drive just before you close itunes.

  • Do i need to keep mp4's on my computer as well as itunes after i transfer them?

ihave a ton of mp4 movies and just bought an apple tv so i threw a bunch on my itunes so they could work together but now i'm really running low on space, can i delete the mp4's in my downloads folder after they were copied into itunes?
    thanks a ton

if the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked in iTunes > preferences > advanced, you can delete the original files in your dowloads folder as iTunes will have made a copy.

  • Symbols in 1st Column of Itunes

What do the different symbols mean in the first column of Itunes, next to the song number?

    Hello, Chris.
    From iTunes Help (6.0.1)
A display icon next to an item means the item is a video. Double-click the video to play it.
A book icon next to an item means the item is a PDF file. Double-click the file to open it in your default PDF viewer.
A moving zigzag next to a song means a song is being imported from a CD or your hard disk. A green checkmark means iTunes has finished importing the song.
An exclamation point next to a song means the song file can't be located. It may have been moved or deleted.
A broadcast icon next to a song means the song is stored on the Internet and is "streamed" to you when you click to play it.
A black checkmark next to a song means the song will be included in your next action. For example, only songs with black checkmarks are copied to your iPod or imported when you click the Import button. Or, when you're playing all the songs in a list, only the checked songs play.
A speaker next to a song means the song is currently playing. When importing a song you're also listening to, you see a moving zigzag instead of the speaker.
Chasing arrows next to a song mean the song is being copied or downloaded from the Internet.
If you see an arrow to the right of a playlist in your Source list, you can click it to publish your playlist on the iTunes Music Store.
If you see an arrow to the right of a song, album, or artist in your library or a playlist, you can click it to go to the page for that item on the iTunes Music Store. You can show or hide these arrows by selecting or deselecting the "Show links to Music Store" checkbox in the General pane of iTunes Preferences.
If you see an arrow to the right of a podcast, you can click it to go to the page for that podcast in the iTunes Music Store.
If you see an exclamation point to the right of a Smart Playlist, one of the conditions for this Smart Playlist is a playlist that is not available. Click the exclamation point to choose another playlist or remove the playlist that is no longer available.
An eject icon appears to the right of CDs or digital music players in the Source list. Click the eject icon to eject the CD or to remove the music player from the Source list.
A bullet next to a song in your iPod shuffle playlist indicates the song is not currently on your iPod shuffle. If the song is authorized to play on your computer and is saved in a format that can be played on your iPod shuffle (such as AAC, MP3, or WAV), the song will be copied to your iPod shuffle the next time you connect it (if there is enough space on your iPod shuffle). For more information, see the documentation that came with your iPod shuffle.
A blue dot next to a podcast episode means you haven't started listening to the episode. A blue dot next to a podcast means there is at least one episode of that podcast you haven't started listening to yet.

  • ITunes 10 - Iphone4 sync stuck at Syncing Mail Accounts

Hi, I had been syncing my mail accounts from Outlook 2002 ok for a while. I made some changes to the smtp servers (on the iphone and then manually in Outlook) to send e-mails properly when not on my home network and issues started at this point. Now, the sync is stuck and does not progress past the mail accounts. I have deleted all the mail accounts from the iphone, did a reset all settings, hard reboot, and still no success. Any ideas are welcomed, thanks.

Once you sync the mail accounts the first time, you can remove the checkmark on iTunes for that sync setting, since all it does it sync settings information (servers, etc.) from the computer to the phone, one way only. It does not sync the mail. If it is causing a problem, just remove the checkmark. You can manually make changes to Outlook, and also to the setting in the mail app on the iPhone and it will not make any difference to the other. I would imagine that settings changes on the two together could be causing the issues.

  • I have home sharing on 2 computers, can i import music from on computer to the other permenently?

i have home sharing on 2 computers, can i import music from on computer to the other permenently?

if the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked in iTunes > preferences > advanced, files you transfer via homesharing are copied permanently to the other library.

  • Shuffle playlist will skip every song in the playlist.

If shuffle is checked before attempting to play a song, the whole playlist will be skipped, song by song, although the list does re-arrange itself as a shuffle playlist. If I play a song and then check shuffle, the song will continue to play thorough, but all subsequent songs will be skipped. It will play the last possible song when that point is reached. I have not found a single comment about this particular problem online, and I have been searching for days. I am using a Mac mini as a music server and running OS 10.6.8. The version of iTunes on that computer is 10.5.2. I have no plans to update iTunes on this computer. I have repaired permissions and run DiskWarrior. No songs have "skip shuffle" checked.
I also have a new iMac running Mavericks with iTunes 12.0.1, and playlists have no problem shuffling on that machine, nor do they have problems on my iPhone, iPad or iPod.

    Ginger,
Make sure that all the songs have a checkmark.  iTunes will not automatically advance to an unchecked song.
If you do not see the checkboxes, go to Preferences > General and enable Show List Checkboxes.

  • Moving my music to my imac

I have my music 190G on an external drive and would like to move it back to my imac as the ext HDD is going to fail soon, how can I do this?

go iTunes > preferences > advanced and change iTunes media folder location to the music folder on your Mac
on the same tab, ensure the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked
go iTunes > file > library > organize library and choose to consolidate files
wait for the process to finish

  • Skipping songs...Why?

Why does my iPod sometimes skip over songs? I have already learned that if you uncheck the blue checkmark in iTunes, then the song won't play, but I made sure to check all the songs this time, then update the iPod...but it seems to just skip songs randomly...and when I say skip, this is what I mean...when one song finishes, the next is about to play but then the song after plays instead...or sometimes it will skip 2+ songs until it finds one that plays....whats going on here?

  • My Ipod touch 4th generation won't let me drag the songs from my Itunes to the Ipod itself or how do you sync checkmarked songs?

I'm confused, my ipod touch 4th generation won't let me drag my songs from my itunes library to the ipod? So i tried checkmarking the songs I want and I don't know how to sync those? Also, I try to sync apps to my ipod and it says my computer doesn't have the liscense for it?

You should really read the manual.
If you want to drag and drop, then you must check the manually manage music box.
    Read the manual:

  • Possible to checkmark a range of songs in iTunes?

    Hi, there:
Is is possible in iTunes (current version 7.0.2.16) to check a range of songs, such as an album or a group of songs by artist, to synch with my iPod Nano 2G? If I click a checkmark while pressing CTRL (in Win XP), all songs are checked (or unchecked, if I click again). Clicking while holding Shift or Windows keys only check one song. Recommendations? Something for the next-gen iTunes?
    Thanks for your help,
    RJ
      Windows XP Pro

To get a range, select the first one, hold down shift button, select bottom item in list.
Holding CTRL down lets you select items individually when clicking on songs.
Never tried Windows key in iTunes.
