No Close (X) icon

Does anyone else have this issue? I cannot close Aperture except by going into Aperture in the title bar and selecting Quit Aperture. I have Reduce (yellow) and Expand (green) icons that work properly, but the one that usually closes the application remains blank and does not respond when in contact with the mouse pointer.
Is this common, or is it something that I'm doing incorrectly.
Thanks.

If you get used to using command Q to close your applications, it will be easier. After just coming from years of windows based pc's, and used to just clicking on the close icon to close out an application I'm finding keyboard shortcuts to be very useful.

    If you mean you wish to close apps running in the background or remove them from the app bar, double-click the Home button to bring up the app screen, then swipe upwards on the app.

  • Close tab icon "X" disappeared.

    The close tab icon "X" has disappeared from my firefox 4.0, how do i get it back? I've not change any setting nor install any tab-related add-ons. thanks.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Disabling close 'X' icon in the title bar of JDialog

    I found that JDialogs by default come up with the close 'X' icon. The only manipulation that can be done is by setting the DefaultCloseOperation.
    Is there some way I can avoid showing that icon on the title bar?
    My JDialog already has a 'Close' button and I have written an action listener for it. I dont want to listen to WindowEvents as well.

    JDialog d = new JDialog((Frame)c, true);
    d.setSize(400,300);
    d.setUndecorated(true);
    d.getRootPane().setWindowDecorationStyle(JRootPane.PLAIN_DIALOG);That bit of code seems to get rid of the title bar entirely and cause a MetalLookAndFeel dragging bar without an X to appear.
    Let me know if this is a satisfying solution
    My full test code followsimport java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class DyalogTest extends JFrame
       public DyalogTest()
          super("Dialog Test");
          setSize(500, 400);
          setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
          Container c = getContentPane();
          c.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
          JButton b = new JButton("Initiate Dialog");
          b.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
             public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                Component c = SwingUtilities.getRoot((Component)e.getSource());
                JDialog d = new JDialog((Frame)c, true);
                d.setUndecorated(true);
                d.getRootPane().setWindowDecorationStyle(JRootPane.PLAIN_DIALOG);
                JButton b = new JButton("Dispose");
                b.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                      Component c = SwingUtilities.getRoot((Component)e.getSource());
                      JDialog d = (JDialog)c;
                      d.setVisible(false);
                      d.dispose();
                d.getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());
                JPanel p = new JPanel();
                p.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(400,300));
                p.setBorder(BorderFactory.createTitledBorder("Vanilla Dialog"));
                p.add(b);
                d.setContentPane(p);
                d.pack();
                d.setVisible(true);
          c.add(b);

  • Coding to allow the X (Close Window icon) to close a window.

    I have coded a number of Modal screens called from a main screen.  I can't seem to find what allows the windows Close Window icon (X) to close the screen.  The user must hit my exit button to leave, and I want to keep that as an option, but also allow the X to close the window and be able to handle it in my User Command module.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Paul,
    First set the PF-status with CANCEL and activate it

    in program

  • When i customize my toolbar and close, the icons are not in the places i put them. how do i make my toolbar set up stay in place?

    below file/edit/view/history/bookmarks/tools/help menu line, on second line I have added icons for print, reopen closed tab, session manager, (xmarks)synchronize now, my xmarks, home,duckduckgo, woolik search, stumbleupon, you tube, do not track me, mask me, better privacy, https addon, zoom out zoom in, back forward, private browsing toggle. on the third line i have added icons for gmail-open in a new tab, gmail checker, gmail notifier, last pass and the address bar. there are 2 to 4 separator lines between the icons, grouping like icons, i.e., security, search engines, gmail, etc. each time i close Firefox and then reopen, the icons are no longer in the order i placed them, with separators, or they are not visible and i have to r.click. select "customize," and re-drag and drop the icons and separators where i want them. i am a very, very beginner at this all, but drag and drop i know. why don't the icons/seperators stay in place??

  • Turn off close window icon

    Does anybody know how to disable the X in a JDialog so that it cannot be closed by the user? How do I do that? I see a setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(boolean) on JDialog and could set that to false but then what would I do?
    thanks,
    dean

    Err...
    On my computer, JDialog doesn't have window minimizing, maximizing or closing icons in the upper right corner of the dialog box itself. Did you mean that you don't want people to be able to close the parent (or application) window whenever there is a dialog box being displayed?
    For example, you cannot close the web browser by clicking on the "X" if there is a dialog box present?
    In which case you want the dialog box to be modal. That means the user cannot send any input whatsoever to any other window within the application - the dialog box commands focus and will not give it up until you click the YES, NO, or CANCEL buttons for example.
    By default, JDialog() is not modal. Certain JOptionPanes such as JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(), are modal. However, making things even more confusing, showMessageDialog() extends JDialog. If you ask that it extend JInternalFrame instead, the result is non-modal by default.
    Anyway, look at the examples within:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/dialog.html
    Depending on what you are trying to do within your application, it may be easier to just simply switch the JComponent from JDialog to JOptionPane.showMessageDialog() or another option. If not, there is a section in there on dealing with window closing events.

  • HT2492 how to add the close button icon on the internet tabs

    i dont know what happened but if i want to close the new tab i entered from the safari i still have to do the long process instead of just clicking the "x" button to close it,., it disappeared last night and i dont know how to put it back,., prolly i accidentally press an icon to detached it from the tool. how will i restore it?

    Since your posting in the swing project forum, I assume your talking about JDialog. If so, use JDialog.setDefaultCloseOperation( DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE ). Same method exists in JFrame as well, but not in JWindow.

  • Lsot a close window icon in the file section

    lost a close window and go back option in the file section of my computer

    Some menu items are hidden by default and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu.
    If you sue Alt+F to open the File menu then you get all items in the File menu. The same applies to the History menu with the Back and Forward items that only appear if you use the keyboard.
    You can use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens

  • Imported Captivate video playbar doesn't display close captioning icon

    I've imported a captivate 6 demo into robohelp 10 and everything works perfectly, except that the closed captioning (CC) icon does not display on the Captivate playbar. It shows up just fine in Captivate, but not in Robohelp.
    I've tried externalizing the skin to import into Robohelp and I still get the same result. The CC icon doesn't show up in the playbar. I have to have closed captioning in my work environment for my Captivate videos. Can anyone help?

    Hi there
    Screen captures might prove useful, but if you are to provide them, you will need to use the camera icon and upload them here.
    When you are linking to the Captivate, how are you doing it? Are you pointing to the SWF or are you using HTML 5 output from Captivate?
    Cheers... Rick
