  • Color corrected video washed out by font / graphics

    Hi everyone-
I'm running FCP 4.1.1 on a Mac dual G4. I have some DV clips on the timeline which I adjusted using the brightness / contrast function of the Color Correction tool. When I lay font or graphics over it, the clips get all washed out, and look more like the original clips. After rendering, the Viewer tells me that the video clips are still brightness / contrast adjusted, even though they're not. When I remove the font / graphics, they look as I intended (adjusted).
I used these same graphics on other video clips and they worked fine. It seems to be an issue with the adjusted clips.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.
    Mac dual G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

what color is the render bar above these problem clips?
it may be that with these graphic overlays applied then you are seeing only a proxy or preview of the final effect and not a full render
if so, check your Sequence > Render settings and make sure to check the Preview and/or Proxy options
    cheers

    Hello
I have a G4MX420D-T and it's works nicely (most of the time). When i connect my tv to the videoout i can see the picture allright, but the color is missing. It seems like the signal is convertet into grayscale.
    Any ideas/solutions????
I haven't tried a BIOSupdate. Does anyone know a version that can do the trick???

    @esben75
I have a similar problem, but I just get garbage on the screen from either RCA or SVID out put (I've eben tried using the SVID to RCA adaptor and receive the same results.
    @Denis B and Zoilus
Could you please be more specific as to the location of these settings. I have checked, but am unable to locate the PAL/NTSC or S-Video/Composite settings.
    @kohlerj
I've tried this and these cables work on other systems.

  • Color Correcting Video

I have a completed video that I made in iMovie. I'd like to know if it's possible to use photoshops color correcting abilities for my completed video.
I know how to alter color in photoshop, but I don't know how to make a seperate color adjustment for each micro clip within the completed video. I can only get it to apply my color adjustments to the whole video, not just the section that I wanted edited.
    I hope that makes sense
    Thanks in advance!

I think I answered my own question. I had to drag (as in editing) each adjustment layer to the part of the video that I wanted adjusting. I uneded up having a lot of adjustment layers...

  • Color calibration video?

Just wondering if there's such thing for Apple TV. I may have calibrated my projector for my DVD player but the same calibration can't be apply to the Apple TV. And it seems that all the videos (TV Shows, music videos and movies) color are all over the place.

it should give you the maximum potential performance. using test material is the only way to properly calibrate a monitor. people who do it by eye, either have a lot of experience, or are going by non-scientific methods. often times, doing a calibration randomly or w/o a reference image will end with innacurate results.
on the other hand, some people simply don't care... true videophiles are more rare than audiophiles it seems.
just 1 word of caution, I find that these tests do in fact allow one to set up a monitor with "perfect" or at least reference video... within the capabilities of the monitor, however these tests and calibration methods were developed with the CRT in mind. although most of the test do tranlate over to LCD, DLP, and other fixed panel devices, i find that many of these modern displays are not capable of the samer performance envelope as CRT displays. in the case of fixed panel devices that have poor black levels, make sure that you take this into account when doing the calibration... in other words, you can't make a device's black level performance exceed what it is inherently capable of, so in some cases you should not calibrate to the theoretic test pattern, but adjusting for its imperfections. for example, on the PLUGE pattern, if you know that your display suffers from imperfect black levels... back off the calibration a little bit. making the brighness level too dark, so the PLUGE is coherent, will result in an overly dark image, that you will then try to attempt to compensate for by overdriving the contrast... getting a less detailed end result. just something to keep in mind.

  • Unable to Export Color Corrected Video's to Original format for AVCHD (GH2) and ProRES Codecs.

I imported a 176 MBPS AVCHD clip from my GH2 into Lightroom 4, then i added color presets to the video and color corrected the video, however during export when i select the video format as original the color correction does not apply to the video, only the original video is saved, But when i select H.264 or DPX the video is saved with the effects applied. I also tried using a AVCHD clip converted to Apple ProRES but when i export the video the effects are not applied to the saved video. Also the option i get for saving H.264 files is only 22 MBPS.

Original, whether for photos or video, means "unedited".  Bear in mind that this isn't intended for high-end video editing - just simple edits for digitial photographers.  It won't replace your video editing software anytime soon, if ever.

  • RGB color over video image

I used the FCP "tint" function to overlay a specific RGB color over a video image. But, I still can see the images bellow the color. Is there a way to partially or entirelly cover the video image with a solid color covering completely the video action with color; like solid ink, without transparency (or control it from 0-100%)?
By the way; the RGB color values on video are the same; reflect the same values to the eye, as on ex: Photoshop? It´s the same monitor.
    Thanks very much.

    http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k533/pansottin/withsepiafilter.jpg
Using tint or sepia filters I allways see the video image bellow. That´s what I don´t want.
I want to cover (opaque) the video image with color.

  • Color and video clarity

I installed the iOS 4 on my Iphone 3G and the color of my icons diminished! It looks like I'm playing a game boy color. HD videos look horrible as well... Is anyone having the same problems? Any solutions?

I am just rendering files and viewing them in my preview screen to see what I am doing before I export.
This is the properties of one of many clips I am using:

  • Color of video looks extremely different (photo negative) after export

After sending my footage (on my timeline) to Color, I changed the color in the Primary In, then added some Effects in the Color FX section. I added Exposure, Film Look, and Saturation. I edited each one of my clips (with the same settings as I mentioned) and then sent it back to FCP. I rendered the footage. The footage looked great in the timeline. Everything looked just as I wanted it to. But then when after exporting using Quick Time conversion, I played the video and it looked absolutely horrible. When I say horrible I mean the footage looked like a photo negative, it was not even watchable. I had other footage in the exported video that was not edited in color, and that footage was fine.
Where is this problem coming from and how do I solve it? I would really appreciate help on this issue.
Here is a link with what my footage looked like after exporting it:

  • Fixing Color in Video taken thru a Window

Poor dummy me! I have taken some footage through a window in Abu Dhabi in a tall building.
The window must have had a slight tint in it.
The footage appears to be slightly green & blue.
I have played around with various effects in PP, all to no avail.
Can some experienced editor play around with it and let me know the best settings and indeed the best effect to use
to correct this footage. I have enclosed a still of the footage & embedded code from a small video sample on
    Youtube.
I am going to use an adjustment layer as there are several sequences . Using PP CS6
    Thankyou

Colour correction, which doesn't require complex compositing work, can be easily done in PrPro.
Working in high bit depth yields better result, so tick 'Maximum Bit Depth' flag in your sequence settings (as well as in the Export Settings when you're done) and utilise 32-bit effects - you can filter them by toggling '32-bit Color' badge in the Effects tab.
Set your workspace to Color Correction so as to monitor scopes and waveforms while manipulating effects' settings. Understanding waveforms and scopes helps you realise what you need to do so as to achieve desired look.
Waveform of a well exposed footage with deep contrast occupies a wider range, whereas one of a footage with a weak contrast - a narrower range. So as to expand the contrast for the latter case you need to lower the 'bottom' (black point) of your waveform closer to '0' and lift its 'top' (white point) closer to '100'. You set the black point with either 'Pedestal' or 'Input Black' and white point with either 'Gain' or 'Input White'. You compensate for overall brightness of your footage after you tweaked the Pedestal and Gain with Gamma.
Waveform also clearly shows you which channels' settings to tweak and how in order to achieve proper colour balance. The more R, G and B waveforms aligned, the better the colour balance.
Here is an example for all the above with RGB Color Corrector:

  • NO COLOR in video captures

Situation 1: VHS with RCAout connection, GF 5700 video card. The video is captured in black and white.
Situation 2:  DVD player with S-video cable. The video card capture in color. That is OK.
Situation 3: DVD player with RCA cable. The capture is again in black and white
I'm using Movie Maker, in "properties" the color configuration is not enable and is not possible to do it.
The VHS player doesn't have S-video out.
    Question ?
How can I do to capture video color from a VHS with RCA connection only ? Somebody could give me an Idea ?
    Thanks a lot
    Raul

    Ah well theres the problem
Theres plenty of software out there that will do a better job. However, if you want to stick with Media Maker, check that you have the latest version (v2.0 I believe) from Windows Update.

  • Transitions not working in Premiere CS6.Video was color corrected in AE 6 and sent back to PPro cs6.

I exported my film to AE6 from Premiere CS6 for color-correction and got it back to Premiere Pro through DYNAMIC LINK.Now,the problem is that AE has discarded all the transitions and also cross-dissolve and film-dissolve don't seem to work on this color-corrected video.I am able to apply the transitions but they don't work....somebody please help!

As Jim said, not all effects and transitions are properly translated when you replace a group of clips with dynamically linked AE composition. Actually you should have noticed that your cross-dissolves etc. had been replaced with black solid layers in After Effects, which didn't reflect your PrPro transitions.
Now you can jump back to your AE project and fix broken transitions there.
For your future work you should keep it in mind and decide whether to replace a group of clips (and, therefore, fix broken transitions in After Effects) or a single clip, taking care of its handles.

  • Color consistence between photo and video

    Hi there!
I am a pro photographer at a online store. I have profound knowledge about everything photo, hence am sort of new to video.
We are shooting fashion for an online store. At the same time, during the shooting, we also record a video of the styles. Both of the to (the pictures as well as a short video) are beeing shown online.
While the color-consistence for the pictures is guaranteed trough custom color-profiles we control with X-Rite Colorchecker, we are not able to do the same with the videos.
My question - and it may be a basic question tough I did not find any related topic online -  is: How can I control the colors in video and bulletproof guarantee, that they look exactly the same as in the photographs?

    Hey Jan.
Thanks a lot for your quick reply! I feared this answer.
In the meantime, my correction skills became mediate I would say. I managed to create favorites for basic color correction as well as the correction with the 3-way color wheel in FCP.
Unfortunately, we have to do a lot of videos (as per style) a day (post-production) and have therefore very little time for time consuming in depth color correction.
As a last - just because I became courious about this whole color-accuracy topic in video in general - let me ask that one question again: there is really NO WAY or PROCESS, one can achieve perfect color consistence trough a similar tecnique like with color-pofiles as used in print?

  • Video filters became disabled. video in timeline reverted back to glowing images. Broadcast safe button does nothing.  Black and white went back to color.  what happened to my video filters?

video filters became disabled.  My timeline now shows video in pre-broadcast safe look.  black and white video went back to original color.  video filters not responding at all.  what happened?

First thing to do is reset your fcp preferences

  • Video Support to Color iPods (4G)?

Does anyone know if there's any plans to give the 4th Generation Color iPods Video Capability now that they've launched the new iPod. iPodLinux.org has proved that the hardware is sufficiant to support it. They'd just be able to make more money off people from an increase video file sales on the new iTunes Store.

Apple are mising a trick here. How many of the many millions of iPod photo owners are going to rush out and buy a 5G iPod for video? Taking a hit of probably £100+ on a product that most have only had for a few months? A small percentage I reckon.
The 5G offers very little else that the iPod photo doesn't. No extra capacity for a start and the lack of Firewire is a BIG minus to some.
These current owners would possibly be enticed into buying some video content from iTMS however. If the facility was activated.
At the end of the day Apple is going to sell just as many iPods as it is now.
At the same time selling more videos, expanding the market and not alienating loyal customers.
It's in Apple's interest in the wider scheme of things to convince potential movie companies and TV stations that the market is there. The figures would be substantially more impressive if the millions of existing customers where able to use this feature.
Food for thought? I really couldn't care less about video, I just want Apple to leave us with stable firmware (fixed smart playlists, stable slideshows and screenlock) before moving on. Please.
