No "computer sleep" on new iMac running Mountain Lion

I just migrated over all my stuff from an iMac (bought earlier this year) to another just bought this week.  But the new one has no choice to put the computer to sleep.  Just wondering what's up with this and why I don't need to put this one to sleep ever.  It is a bump up from the other one (faster processor, & graphics card), but still running the latest version of ML.
Thanks

It does have that option, chances are you simply are not looking in the correct place. Please navigate to System Preferences - Energy Saver. It will look similar to:

Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard time machine files to new iMac running Mountain Lion.  I can run connection doctor OK.  But the activity window is blank.   If you try to open message viewer window then mail program crashes.  Would really like to get my old emails back as the old imac is totally dead.  Thanks for any help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

will microsoft office for mac 2004 transfer from my emac running 10.4.11 to the new iMac running mountain lion using migration assistant?

Microsoft Office 2004 will not work on any Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion. You will need to upgrade to Office 2011, buy the less expensive iWork apps from the App Store or use a free office clone like OpenOffice or NeoOffice.

    Yes, EEK!
Have you run Microsoft Update and installed the latest 14.2.4 Office update yet?
Humor me. When you perform copy, do you then establish keyboard focus by clicking the mouse pointer on the destination screen for the paste action -- before keying the paste?
Have you installed any third-party keystroke mapping software that may be getting between the operating system and these two applications?
Under System Preferences > Accessibility > Keyboard, have you enabled Sticky, Slow, or EEK! Keys?
In System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Keyboard & Text Input, doe the check marks look like the following:

  • How do I transfer my Quicken 2004 data from old MacBook to new Imac with Mountain Lion

I want to transfer my Quicken 2004 (upgraded to 2006) data from MacBook running OSX 10.5.8 to new Imac running Mountain Lion with Quicken 2007 Lion.  How do I do this?  I thought from what I've read on line that all I needed to do was upgrade the quicken to 2006 and then the data would be readable by Quicken 2007 Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK: This information is VERY helpful!  Note my comments below:

Here is what I'm doing step by step:
Open Quicken 2006 (it did automatically convert the Quicken 2004 data) -- GOOD!
    Do not do these steps
    I went to File> Export> All
Named the file "Copy of Quicken Data.qif" and saved it to the desktop of my MacBook.
At this point if I send the file as is it would not open on the other end saying that Power PC apps are not supported.
I discovered that if I  go to File> Get Info in the Finder window before I send it and change the setting "Open with" from "Preview" to "Quicken 2006", that the file would be recognized by the new computer.
Compress the converted Quicken 2006 data file by Control-Clicking on the converted Quicken 2006 data file and it should save with a .zip extension.
Send the automatically converted and compressed Quicken 2006 data file with the zip extension I send it to myself via email as an attachment, I save the attachment to the desktop of the Imac.  Uncompress it by double-clicking it.
    I open Quicken 2007 Lion
Go to File>Open File... Import>From QIF
Select the converted and uncompressed Quicken 2006 data file attachment that you saved to the desktop of the iMac and then uncompressed. "Copy of Quicken Data.qif"
It begins to download, then I get a warning
"Quicken is unable to import "Copy of Quicken Data.qif" becasue the transaction displayed below is too large...  it goes on to say that there is possibly too much text in the split line detail etc.
It should open in Quicken 2007 for Lion/Mt. Lion
Thanks for your time, any insights would be much appreciated.

  • Database Software for iMac Running Mountain Lion

I just bought an iMac running Mountain Lion. My old computer was a Powerbook G4 (Classic invironment) on which I had Filemaker Pro 8 and loved it. Looks like I cannot install FMP 8 on my new iMac. Looking for alternative software (as FMP 12 is $300.00) for managing databases on my iMac without having to re-enter lots of info. Thanks in advance!

You won't upgrade FMP because why? There are many database programs that run under Mountain Lion, although they may not have any compatibility with FMP. But you can export from FMP.
The database module of Libre Office is similar to Access, but I don't know if it reads native FMP files. OS X comes with a variant of MySQL. Then there are:
    Panorama
    Panorama Enterpprise
    4D v11 SQL
    4D
    Organise
    Organise Pro 7.0.3 Pro
    Bento

Back up your present iPhoto library. Install the new version of iPhoto. When you run it for the first time it will want to update the library. When it's finished you should be good to go.

  • How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?

How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?
              Thank you, Morty S.

I have a perfectly-working LW 4/600 with exactly the same issue. They use localtalk - a long obsolete network connection, that doesn't connect to modern networks, and appletalk as the comm protocol.
I think the only choice you have is to use an old powerPC Mac as print server. You tell me which old Mac you have, with a localtalk connector, or that runs OS X 10.4 or earlier (so it speaks appletalk), and I'll tell you how I've done it for the past 11 years or so.
Right now I use a G4 running 10.4.11, plus an etherMac ethernet to localtalk adapter.
Before, I used a PMac 6100 running LPD server software.

  • Shared drives no longer network accessible on iMac running Mountain Lion.

    Hey all,
I've been searching the community on and off for weeks and have not been able to come to a solution.  I have an external hard drive connected to a 2007 iMac running Mountain Lion that has successfully been shared on my network for over two years starting with Snow Leopard.  Just recently I noticed the shared drives were no longer showing up on my networked Macs (running anything from Leopard to Mountain Lion).  What's odd is the shared drives will connect and show up for the first 5 minutes or so after the iMac is restarted, but will go offline soon after.  The iMac shows up in the side bar, but I get the dreaded "Connection Failed" message in Finder when I click "Connect As" after the shared drives first go away.  Screen sharing works fine all the time when accessing the iMac.  I've tried everything on the iMac from disabling the firewall completely to renaming it on the network to disabling SMB on all shared partitions.  Anyone have any suggestions?

What version of OS X are you installing on the external drive? Is the drive partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled?

    HI,
If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With  Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself  (on it's own) and restart iChat  (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)

  • I've got a new iMac with Mountain Lion OS.  Created a slideshow complete with music in iPhoto.  Every time I try to export to iPhoto slideshow folder, it freezes.  Help!

I've got a new iMac with Mountain Lion OS.  Have created a slideshow complete with music in iPhoto, but every time that I try to export it to an iPhoto slideshow folder, it gets halfway through and freezes.  This has been going on for a couple of days.  I've tried opening iPhoto holding down the option key, but it doesn't make a difference.  Any advice, please?

    Upgrade to v9.4.1 or
Trash the HP Plug in from /Library/Application Support/iPhoto
There are two libraries where this plugin might be
    HD/ Library
    and
    HD/Users/Your Name / Library
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
