No computer will recognize iphone... LONG

Ok here we go I will describe what im experiencing as best as I can
I bought an I phone 2g from ebay, auction stated iphone no longer charged, simple fix.
got the phone sure as S*&^ it wouldnt, unless, I connected it to my ipod connector in my truck, the one that connects to the back of the stereo directly, not an fm trans/ cig charger. The phone came to life, but would not charge, it thought it was but after unplugging it just died, messed around in the settings turned everything off and let it sit for a few hours. came back to it pulled it off the charger and died. So i did the restore from the settings menu, wiped everything start from scratch. I was gonna do it anyway so I hoped that would fix the hiccup with charging. I let it format and charge overnight.
Now the phone has a full charge and stays onn when off the charger, the phone is telling me to connect to itunes to restore, here inlies the problem. No computer will recognize the iPhone. steps i have tried, recovery mode and dfu mode, iphone will not enter these modes, does it need to recognize it is connected to the computer to enter these modes? I have tried both numerous times it just resets shows the apple logo and returnes to the connect to itunes screen.
I have tried to verify the usbaapl.sys file is there and amd services are running, on my xp laptop everything is good, although the usb might be a 1.0 version, on my new hp I have vista 64, i cannot find the sys files anywhere. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, even tried version 8.1 still no luck. Also tried plugging into my friends mac, no luck, I dont know anything about macs so I didnt go poking around.
I also have a brand new usb dock data cable, not just a charge cable.
Now question for all that are smarter than me, how do I test if there is something wrong with the logic board or anything interior? Any ideas, please dont say try entering dfu or recovery mode, the iPhone will NOT do it, or are there other ways of doing it without the press and hold... release... 10 sec blah blah.
Should I just send it in to an online place that does free inspections? if so do you have recommendations?
thanks to all

alternately, take it to an Apple Store...

  • Computer will recognize my iphone but not my wifes

My wife and I both have Iphone 4's that have been set up on the same computer.  Recently the computer will recognize my phone but not my wifes.  When I plug her's in, I get a double chime and that is it.  Plug mine in, get a single Chime, and Itunes opens and syncs.  I have removed Itunes and the supporting programs, including Bonjour, and reinstalled.  It did not work.  Also I took her phone to the Apple store, it recoginzed on their computer there and they installed IOS 5 for us.  Got home and still nothing.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Hello: Thanks to all who replied or read my concern. I was able to solve the issue on my own. What I forgot to mention in the original post was that both my wife and I were attempting to use the Free App " Find My iPhone" from the App Store to set up Find My iPhone which I'm not certain if that was the source of the headache.
At any rate, I simply deleted the app from both iPhones and set up them up in iCloud using the same AppleID account and password which is what it said all along-but I was not getting it. After doing so, both my iPhone and my wife's iPhone are listed in My Devices.
    Best Regards,

  • Neither iTunes nor my computer will recognize my iPod

My iPod has a white screen and will not turn off until the battery dies.
I suspect it needs reformatting but, when I connect it to my computer, Windows recognizes only the USB Mass Storage Device aspect of the iPod and nothing else...So, it doesn't show up in iTunes for reformatting.
I haven't seen anything like this before and I can't find any similar discussions. Please help! (I have already completed the first four "r"'s so, please don't suggest them!)

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.

  • Computer will recognize iPOD one minute but not the next!

I have the 60GB iPOD and have tried everything to get my computer to recognize it. I have a laptop running on Windows XP. It will recognize the iPod in the Itunes and on the computer for only minutes at a time, but then clicks off and loses the connection to my computer and won't come back until I restart my computer. Anyone have any useful information for this headache?!

Hi I have had similar problems with the ipod but think I know the problem without being techincal.
My Ipod sometimes would connect and sometimes not. I could not find a pattern besides a random one. However I looked at "my Computer" view where I could see the hardisks. When the ipod connected with a "removable disk" it would not work with Ipod and you could not get access to it.
Then I tiried and tried (always on the usb on the back of the computer) changing between the two connections.
When the computer then recognized it as the name I have given the ipod "JFR IPOD" it would then work with I tunes without any problems.
However .... this is the trick for me... when using the USB on my laptop and my wifes it works without any problems 20 out of 20 times....... Where I can see the Ipod in "my computer" as a disk named as my ipod and NOT just as removable disk.
This concludes for me that the USB on my computer - which is USB2 on a 3 year computer does not work as it should. I again assume that this is due to the fact that the IPOD is not powered by a remote source while being connected. This due to the fact that Maxtor USB2 transporable harddrives works without any problems whatsoever.
I now need to check if an external USB2 HUB with external powersupply will work on my computer. If that is not the case I need to try a Firewire connection and have it installed as a card.
All this was done by Trial and error but know I know that (apparently) is not due to a misfunctioning ipod.
Hope this helps for some of you. Bring the IPOD to a fairly new computer and connect is. If it then connects as a ipod with the name you have given it it will work with Itimes as well.

    John Frandsen.

  • Computer wont recognize iphone as a camera or device

    Any suggestions for this?

    shaunie07,
First, does the iPhone have a charge on the battery, as discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305742
What other USB devices are currently connected to the computer, if any?
Have you tried shutting down the computer, and leaving it powered off for at least 30 seconds, then restart it and try connecting the iPhone?
Try reseting the iPhone by holding down the sleep/wake and home buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignore the "Slide to Power off" screen?
Both of the previous steps could be done simultaneously. Shut down the computer, reset the iPhone, and then turn the computer back on.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

Have you tried going through this article: iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB. Sometimes it doesn't want to give the iPod any charge because it wants to keep it to itself (it's like a human, very greedy).

Is there any way to force it to work or should i just get new phone? (It will like 250-300 euros on my operator *** i know?!!?) I think the phone is still on so should i wait the battery run out or what? Any succestions? And i have tried all my other PC's. • Computer wont recognize Iphone 4s

I have a iphone 4s and for the past few months my computer doesnt seem to be recognizing it. I have a feeling its the phone itself. When i plug it into my computer it charges but it doesnt show up in any files or in itunes. I have tried this with 2 other computers and its the same thing. Nothing about it shows up in the Device Manager. All i have on my computer that deals with apple is Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update. I tried with one of the helps here online and i couldnt even find Other Devices in the Device Manager. Can anyone help is it my computer or is it the phone itself? im thinking of taking it to a apple store to get it looked at but im not sure if it will cost me or not.

Ya that's the exact same that's going on with mine. I tried going through my entire computer i think I even reset my phone cause all my music got wiped off.

Or to not be a jerk like the guy above, try recovering it through itunes.
    Step 1
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone via USB.
    Step 2
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
    Step 3
Continue holding the both buttons until your iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone/iPod in recovery mode.
    Good Luck!

  • Itunes/computer wont recognize iphone 5s

I just recently bought a used iPhone 5s and tried to plug it into my mac book so I can sync the phone to my iTunes, but the phone is not even recognized when plugged in. I updated my iTunes and tried restarting the phone and computer to see if that would help, but still nothing. When I plug the phone in a message pops up, "This cable or accessory is not certified and my not work reliably with this iPhone" but it is the original cable the phone came with. The cable itself works while being plugged into the wall outlet. Any suggestions to fix this ?

    Hello there ChristinaGabri,
If your phone is still not recognized in iTunes because of this error message, I would take a look at this info from the following article:
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    If you see an alert
When you plug in your device, you might see one of these alerts:
“This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone.”
“This accessory is not supported by this device.”
If you see one of these alerts, unplug your device try and these steps:
Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris, then reconnect the USB cable.
If you still see an alert, try a different USB cable or charger.
    Get more help
If your device still doesn't charge or you still see an alert after trying the steps above, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
