No connection and freezing
Okay, so I just got a brand new iPod touch today. I went to sync it, and it wouldn't. Then it froze my iTunes. I then reinstalled iTunes (a total of three times before I gave up) and everytime my iPod was connected to the computer, iTunes froze. My iPod also won't connect with iTunes. I tried to turn it off and hold the home key while plugging it in to restore it, but as soon as the restore button came up on my computer, iTunes froze, again. Help?
IT sounds like it failed. Big time.
Try a restore, but I have a feeling this is going to warrant a trip to the genius bar.

Hello. My IPad keeps dropping wifi connection and freezes when streaming
I have been to the store twice already. They replaced my iPad the first time and restored the second time. But still having the same problem
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

MacBook looses WIFI and freezes frequently
Hello there!
Since a few days, my MacBookPro Mid 2009 frequently looses the WIFI connection and freezes (not both at the same time).
Both problems started to occur at about the same time, so I think there may be a connection.
The WIFI just looses connection from time to time. The WIFI symbol in the menubar stays on "connected", but when I click on the menubar icon, it doesn't show any networks and isn't connected to anyone, although the icon stays as already mentioned in the "connected" state. Turning off the WIFI from within the menubar changes to the menubar icon to the "off" state. Turning it back on again doesn't work and in the system settings it says that my WIFI is still on. The only way to get it working again is rebooting.
I guess that the freezing occurs less often than the WIFI loss. When my MacBook freezes, it freezes completely. I can't move the mouse anymore and can't change anything with the function keys (e.g. display brightness). The only way to turn it off is holding the power button for a few seconds.
I first tried reseting the DHCP-Lease, SMC and PRAM. I also checked the access rights and my SSD using the Disk Utility. My SSD seemed to be okay and the disconnects and freezes still occurred (The Disk Utility isn't able to repair to repair the file "Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html" but that doesn't seem to be a problem, right?).
I also did the basic Apple Hardware Test, no problems were found.
After restarting my Mac after another freeze, my WIFI hardware wasn't recognized anymore (cross in the menubar icon). I did the basic Hardware Test again and it still didn't find any problems. I also think my Airport Card wasn't recognized in the Mavericks System Report and the Hardware Test, but I'm not a pro, so doubts on that.
I then decide to repair my system installation because the WIFI still worked in the Recovery Partition.
After reinstalling the OS (without deleting all my personal files and apps) the WIFI worked again, but my Mac still froze and lost connection frequently.
A few hours ago I rebooted after a WIFI connection loss and my Mac instantly froze when it finished booting up.
Just about one hour ago this happened again.
I'm out of solutions now and can't find help using google. There aren't any Apple stores near my location and I also can't give away my Mac in the next few weeks. It's currently essential in my daily work and those freezes make working with it very difficult. Just buying a new one isn't a possible solution too.
I'm using 10.9.2 and didn't change anything recently. No system changing apps or anything like that and no hardware changes in the last few months.
I replaced the cd drive with a Samsung SSD a few months ago (I enabled TRIM with "Trim Enabler" by Cindori Software just yesterday) and migrated my data to the SSD. The original hard-drive is still in its place, but almost empty. I also upgraded the RAM to 8GB, but the problems still occurred when I changed it back to the original 4GB. My fan works fine and all the wires are in place. Here's an link to the system logs from a few minutes before the last freeze. I uploaded it to my webspace, because I don't want to fill the whole threat with it, hope thats fine.
Thanks in advance to anyone out there who's willing to help,
I really appreciate your work on the forums.I did have exactly that same wifi behavior and it ended up being the cable that connects the wifi card to the motherboard in my machine. I didn't experience the freezing with that problem though. The wifi disconnects were seemingly random, other than they also occurred when I moved the machine. One thing you might try is to shut the wifi card off altogether and use one of these.

When I open my browser, it takes 3-5 minutes to fully open. When I get to a website, randomly the tab will say 'Connecting' and slow down and take 10-15 minutes to function or freeze completely. This almost always happens on sites that require Flash Player use. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Flash several times. I've added memory, as someone suggested it was a memory issue. It's so frustrating, please help!
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

WRT54GL Connection drops and freezes
Hi,
I just recently purchased WRT54GL and I've been having an issue with it. Whenever I'm downloading (both regular download and progress download on you tube for e.g.), and I'm not browsing or active with internet explorer, it drops the connection, even worse, it freezes (idle) for sometime and back in a very low speed. Sometimes it doesn't come back up until I open an IE. It causes the downloads to fail every single time! I opened the Local Area Connection and i guessed it right, it does drop and stop so very often.
I tricked it with going "forward" and "back" on my IE to browse between two websites just to keep the connection "alive" so that the download doesn't get disconnected. I checked connecting my modem directly to the computer without the router and it worked great.
I have Comcast and Vonage connection.
if someone could help, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks all, :-)Your router needs to be Upgraded, Download the Firmware from here ,
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...Check if this works for you... -
I have a MacbookPro 10.6.8 and each time I use the USB connection it freezes my desktop, also I have lost my Windows XP operating system on VMware Fusion. regards Bettws
Energy Saver is very problematic with non-Apple USB devices. Which means when you close the lid to your machine, those devices will not necessarily appear until you next restart the computer.
Secondly, Windows XP is not secure anymore, unless you pay Microsoft a special licensing fee. To avoid that, upgrade to at leats Windows Vista:

With iOS 7 and certain apps I get a message that ask me to connect to iTunes to receive notifications. After clicking "OK", it comes back repeatedly and freezes the App: Friends, Dropbox, among others. The only way to escape is to shut down and restart. I think this is a "bug" with older apps. How can I solve it in orther to use the apps? It doesn´t occur with my iPad, only with my iPhone 5.
Thankyou for your kind answer: with Dropbox, it solved the problem; with Friends, still the same

Ipod connects, iTunes freezes and music deleted.
I have 160gb ipod classic and just recently I had iTunes open and working fine, then I plugged my ipod into the computer, and it said it was connecting and then syncing and the icon showed up on the desktop. When I clicked on iTunes the icon did not show up in the sidebar and it became unresponsive needing to be forced quit. I tried restarting my computer and the same thing happened. After quitting itunes, i ejected my ipod from the desktop and disconnected it and noticed it was cleared of everything that I had on there. I have a Mac operating system, iMac version 10.5.8. Please help!
have since tried on other computers and all now have the same problem. some with vista as well. this problem has now spred to all my computers preventing me from syncing my ipod at all

X100e Hanging and Freezing on Wireless
There was a different thread addressing freezing and hanging when connected via ethernet; however, I have had ethernet disabled from the BIOS since day one of receiving my system but I found my system to be locking up extremely often particularly when connected to the Wi-Fi at Purdue University.
For reference: The wireless network at Purdue University uses WPA-Enterprise with PEAP + Thawte Security Certificate.
Naturally, I had the latest BIOS (1.25) and had all the updates available from ThinkVantage System Update, but this did not seem to help any - when I was browsing on my university network it would simply hang and freeze up completely every 30 minutes or so, forcing me to restart the system. It would seem to freeze regardless of whether or not I was even doing anything on the internet.
There did not seem to be any serious issues on my home network, however, which used WPA2-Personal, but I do not really use my x100e at home enough to say for sure.
I was quite convinced that there was some sort of problem with either the wireless adapter drivers or some sort of power saving feature at this point, so I uninstalled the Lenovo x100e wireless drivers and obtained the newest drivers for the RTL8192SE chipset directly from RealTek and installed them.
I then went and disabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for the wireless adapter from Device Manager. I also set the wireless adapter to "Maximum Performance" and turned off PCI Express Link state power management from the power manager. I also turned off idle timers for stopping hard disk rotation, system standy, and hibernation.
Now after this little set of actions I seem to be able to more or less surf and download things stably on my university network. I must note that, the system will still hang every now and then while I am browsing around. I don't notice any particular pattern to this hanging; it simply happens when I have a browser open and am surfing normally - it will hang for about 40 seconds or so (I can move my mouse but nothing will respond) and then it will simply resume normal operation.
So there is my story....
Has anyone else ever experienced hanging or freezing on wireless networks with their x100e?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hello,
So far, my networking results with my ThinkPad X100e have been very good, but I have only used it on a few networks.
Have you tried using your ThinkPad X100e on different wireless networks to see if the results vary? Perhaps the problem occurs with wireless networks that are configured in a specific fashion or using specific hardware. Connecting at a local coffee shop or public library or other venue with wireless Internet access may provide a different experience.

Access Connections and Tools won't install properly
I have followed advice uninstalled the wireless driver, access connections, hotkey, power manager. . Reinstalled all ( latest versions) except access connection. Wireless connections work correctly and all hot keys function appropriately ( including Fn +F5 ). Then I let TVSU download Access connections. An icon is placed in the task tray. Clicking on it nothing happens. Also none of the hot keys work including the blue ThinkVantage key. Once I uninstall Access connection I am back in business with the wireless connection and the hot keys working. ( for all these installs I turned off the Microsoft virus scanner and the firewall).
Have similar problem with ThinkVantage tools in that I get the Icon in the task tray and then the program freezes. No problem in reinstalling PC doctor5
T60 series2007 Windows XP professional pack3.Hi dulverton,
I find lenovo drivers and software rather eccentric; since they need to be installed in a particular order to work properly.
First uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
Further this is the order in which the following drivers must be installed for each of them to function desirably:-
1) Lenovo PM driver
2) Lenovo System Interface Driver
3) Hotkey driver
4) Wireless driver software [reboot]
5) Access Connections [reboot]
Hope it helps.

New 27 iMAC keeps crashing iMovie and freezing videos on YouTube & Quicktime
We just got a new Sept 2013 iMac three days ago, purchased refurbished from the Apple Store online. The whole point of the purchase was to be able to use iMovie to thoroughly edit videos for our YouTube channel, use garage band, lots of internet surfing and video watching etc. We spent the extra dollars to get what we thought was the most improved version of the iMac with all the souped up specs in order to avoid any hassle and headaches from a lack of performance. Here's what we have:
3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
27-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1440 resolution
8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
1TB hard drive (We have only used 80 GBs of it so far, so plenty of space left)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
720p Camera & Mic
OS X 10.9
We're feeling a bit duped now as this seems to have turned out to just be a big expensive piece of junk. Here are our problems:
- Firstly, thank goodness that we had our own Logitech HD camera/mic left over from our PC because the "HD camera" built in to the iMac is worse in quality than my old blackberry curve. Grainy, lack luster, mic has sharp and distant sound, really really bad and false advertisement.
- In the middle of using iMovie (iMac came preinstalled with the newest one, i think its 10?), it will stop responding properly or will crash and close, we wont even have any other programs running.
- When opening Quicktime to record a new video, in the middle of a recording or while the recording window is idle, it will start glitching - flashing between live footage and a freeze frame repeatedly. The only way to stop it is to quit out Quicktime and open again and try to record quickly, or in some cases we have to completely restart the iMac, which then still randomly in the middle of a recording or idle window it will continue to flash and glitch. (You can view an example here in the last minute of one of our videos, we tried to make it work and kept the take since we were doing our outro music dance, but it totally ***** when this happens randomly during our content portion and we have to redo recording. http://youtu.be/MAJzaEShJGw?t=4m34s )
- When watching YouTube videos, the computer takes a while to respond to a command, like if we click on a certain part of the video, it will not load it until we press the pause/play button a few times and wait. Also at the beginning of a video it will start glitching and freezing again, similar to how we explained above in the quicktime, but faster.
If you are familiar with what could be the problem or have any advice, PLEASE HELP, we are concerned that after dropping so much money within just 3 days of use, this iMac is not performing flawlessly in the areas that we most needed and want to know if these issues are common and fixable or if its a defect that would require we send this thing back immediately. We did not get apple care and would hate to have wasted money that we really dont have on a glitchy crashing huge piece of junk.
Want to mention a few other pros and cons unrelated to our issues, for those who may be considering buying one too:
PROS:
- The Magic mouse is really great, particularly because of the scrolling and zooming gestures. (Though sometimes i accidentaly swipe in a browser and go back to a previous page losing any information that was input on the page i was originally on, for example, i had to retype this whole apple imac inquiry because i swiped backwards by mistake and the whole form cleared! annoying, wish the horizontal swipe navigated between tabs instead of going through the page view history.)
- When the imovie is not crashing, after watching some tutorials and making a few vids, its a really greatly improved program from the '09 version we used to use. I import and edit videos much faster now, and footage does not freeze or take time to load while im dragging and dropping, it is immediately responsive.
- Love using the Talk to text function (like Siri) by pressing "fn" twice. Use this to write long emails and papers with ease. Would like to see a "Speak" read back option that allows for text to be selected and read back (like Siri on iPad)
CONS:
- The text is SO small everywhere and there is no option to exactly set text size across the whole system, only option given is to set a different resolution which lessens the quality of the screen with pixelation, and some programs give you the option to set custom sized text in their individual preferences.
- Sometimes in both iMovie & Garageband, simple automated functionality will stop working, for example in iMove, when certain screens or images are dragged and dropped to the work area by the activity bar (i dont know what else to call it, the line that rolls across during playback or stays put when pressing spacebar) usually, that screen or image will click into place to align with the activity bar and will highlight the bar yellow to further communicate that alignment before you drop it, but after extended use in a session, that snapping into alignment when adding items stops working. Or sometimes you can drag and drop the ends of a title screen to adjust/trim the clip, but after extended time that too stops responding and does not let the cursor turn into that arrow that allows you to trim or extend, until after many frustrated clicks or a quit and restart.
- When sharing/exporting a video from iMovie, i would recommend unchecking the add to theatre option because it significantly extends the amount of time needed to complete the action and i found out the theatre is just like a video stream of your movies to be shared on icloud for easy access from your other devices (similar to the icloud photostream connected to iPhoto). It takes the time to make the video readily availabe in various sizes on the Mac server for easy access, which means it takes forever for your video to be exported to where you actually want it. This is not something we need and is not worth the wait time. (For example, last ime we left the theatre box checked, the progress status of the video was estimated to be completed in 351 minutes, and then 20 minutes later that somehow inclreased to 385 minutes, then duddenly it was done, so i think this add to theatre option also cause the progress status updates to go berzerk.)Given the maximum RAM that model can use is 32GB, and the earlier release of that 27" mid-2013 iMac is nearly the same in most regards, you may note the listing of this slightly older iMac 27" is here in an Apple support document...
•iMac: How to remove or install memory:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423#1
The images of where the RAM chips are located, behind a metal plate, should be similar in your iMac and the mid-2013 iMac 27" shown in images on that page. Note there are several models discussed.
You could take the computer to a certified Apple service facility (retail store, or specialist reseller) and pay them to do this, and buy the RAM from them, and you will pay for this at a retail level. If they do it, you'd want to be assured the computer did all the things you sought to cure by upgrading RAM, correctly without fault. Like run tests and stuff.... Or there's no reason to not go ahead (after confirming from Apple) that you could buy quality RAM and do this job yourself, citing the Apple page link I'd posted above.
Contact Apple Support:
http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
You'd have to obtain the correct RAM (as indicated in my earlier post, citing MacTracker) of suitable quality for use in a Macintosh computer, and the recommendation for a DIY is to get the kit from 'Other World Computing' OWC online at their site. You can talk to knowledgable sales staff at OWC about what you have and what you need, and to help they may ask for the product serial number.
This is OWC and they have the spec RAM required for your iMac 27" model; double-check info:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Since yours is an Apple Refurbished model it will have a different number series. Unlike those in a retail store, because Apple does that to tell what ones they refurbished; refurbs I bought online were like that.
With questions during the first three months, you can get 'support' under the initial 90-day span of ownership of the new (and certified) Apple refurbs bought online; the other part of that is 'service' for 1 year. Call a nearest retail Apple Store, to set a genius appointment; or go online, and start the process of reporting your issue, while you still have some kind of warranty on the device. They can diagnose the issues you cite and tell you if you can upgrade the RAM (as you likely can) then you can buy and install the RAM yourself and probably pay less than 1/2 the retail rate, if you get some from OWC. A diagnosis is free if the Genius looks into it, but you'd need to set an appointment & lug the iMac to their store; protected from weather/shock.
If you want to extend the complementary service to three years (less the included 90-days) and add two years of AppleCare service, that is an affordable option of about $170. For a total of three years coverage.
{If you had a 21.5-inch iMac the RAM would require a service department visit where they use a different method to install the RAM upgrade. Those are built differently than the 27-inch iMac.}
There is a bit of detailed important information in the Apple link on how to upgrade the iMac RAM. There is a certain amount of RAM installed already and these chips would likely be removed if you get matching sets of new RAM to upgrade the capacity. And no matter what some say, there is a reason why they can be upgraded with more. Even with Mavericks OS X 10.9.x and its 'memory compression' etc, it would gladly accept all the RAM upgrade chips it could swallow. (Behind metal screen, mid-bottom iMac 27")
You may need to consider questions about applications that use system resources separate from those about whatever issues your iMac seems to exhibit. There may be some other cause of the video and iMovie symptoms, but more RAM won't hurt given the beast you bought can use 32GB and it has 8.
And if it seems too much to handle, you have 14 days from date of
purchase to take it back. Contact them ahead of then, if you do.
Hopefully this helps.
Good luck & happy computing! -
My husband and I updated to the new OS. Now our iPad Air's keep crashing and freezing whilst browsing the internet. We have done a reset and swiped away pages but nothing is helping. Its very frustrating Can anyone help? Thank you Jo
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke. If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, confirm that this is what you did for a "reset." Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, since you have IOS-7, read this. -
My iPhone 4S has stopped ringing altogether. Voicemail is disabled but if you call me, you'll hear it ringing at your end but it does nothing my end and freezes in the phone app if I make a call (doesn't ring or connect and doesn't freeze the phone, just the calling part). Texts are not being delivered or coming through delayed. Ringer is on, tone enabled - help!
I've disabled roaming so it only runs on wifi (this after getting a £4k phone bill...) and I can use Skype, Viber and WhatsApp with no problem at all.
Would really appreciate any help at all!
Many thanks.Hi there - am with Orange and they said nothing wrong with account and service running normally. They said if they had cut me off I would've received a text (debatable with current message receiving situation!) and when I called out it would say 'calls from this number are barred'. Also if you called me it would say something similar. But it doesn't, it will ring and ring until it rings off but nothing happens at all on my handset. Not even a missed call notification. If I call out, it will display that it is calling the number but that's it. If I cancel the call it will constantly display 'ending call'. If I come out of the phone and go to another app then revist phone it will start calling that last dialled number - without ever getting as far as ringing or connecting.

Data Address: 00408EE0h Length: 0021C120hHello,
i am no groupwise expert but you semm to have the latest patches applied
on your server. My only advise is to change your lan driver BX2.lan from
version 4.42 to 5.01. The version 4.42 was not a very good one and may
cause such issues.
you get the driver from
"http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtremeii.php?legacy=1"
the file is named "nw_odi32-5.0.1.zip".
The server -u136000000 parameter (meaning 136 MByte for user space)
seems a bit low to me for the normal file print servers we have set this
to 600000000 (~600 MByte) or default (884 MByte) but may be it is that
special for groupwise.
