No Connection to broadband in 12 hours!!

Several months ago my broadband went on a Friday night the orange broadband light just flashed, occasionally connecting and going blue fr 30 secs before going orange again. I was on the phone to their support several times over the weekend trying to understand their poor english. We ended up doing the same procedure over and over with different people, finally i was told to plug in the homehub into the test socket which had no affect but later that night it connected ever since ive had a fairly ok connection, dropping out occasionally but not for long.
Today i woke up to find a orange flashing broadband light and have still got it 12 hours later, I assumed the temp network fault on the service status page was to blame buts thats been resolved and im still without internet. I have restarted and reset the HH several times and have been through every troubleshooter and still no luck....... any ideas?

mr_si,
I am sorry that you have had a few problems here certianly seems ike somethings up.

    Hello There,
I have a homehub v2. For 2 years no problem always connected wirelessly, home hub situated next to computer.
For the past week very slow connecting to Broadband sometimes won't connect at all until with a bit of fiddling it does
I have for 5 days connected by ethernet cable but still no difference, once connected speed seems fine.
All the lights on hub are blue the hub is left on 24/7
The hub is in a extension socket installed by BT(not recently) with a filter. I have rebooted the hub, turned off at mains etc,
Can anyone advise me further    Thanks Patty-L

Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • Firefox tries to connect to broadband when I am already connected to home wifi. How can I turn off this repeated attempt.

I boot my laptop and connect to my home wifi network. When I use Firefox, and am on msn.com or Yahoo.com, a window pops up for a connection to broadband, and it prevents the computer from moving to a link or another website unless I cancel this popup. It happens regularly while I am using Firefox to get to websites.

That is a Windows error message; beyond the scope of this forum. Looks like those two websites are trying to do something unexpected or other than "normal".
I tried to search for info about a 720 error message on Windows 8, most responses included reading the error log to see what "request" was triggering that message. That image shows that logging is enabled, so the answer "we" need is probably in that log. I don't know how to pull up that log myself, much explain how to do that to you.
My suggestion is to try a Windows 8 support forum for help with that.

Probably a PC issue, you can try calling AppleCare, you are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase and can find the phone number in the owners manual. Also please look over:

I forgot my password and could not open until it is said "connect to iTunes". I connected to iTunes. for three hours, I restored it. But it is still not restarted. what can I do? I can not use my iPad 3 for three days. Please help me!

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

  • Sky + HD Box wireless connection to broadband

Trying to connect to broadband using a Netgear range-extender (the router is some way away from the Sky box).  I'm getting 'Fail' and no on-demand service! Any thoughts or advice?

Wifi range extenders are usually not that effective, a much better method is to install Ethernet home plugs; these distribute the LAN down the mains cabling, so you don't need to run an Ethernet cable between the two points for connecting your Sky+HD box to the broadband.

    Hello All Who Read This!
I just bought an iPhone 5 on the 21st of March. I ate through 850 MB's in 12 days. I read up on the issue of data consumption looking for tips to conserve data. I did not know there was a problem.
This morning I found out that I was leaking data very little, but daily it accumulates. I am in Barcelona, Spain. I do not have a contract, I am on a prepaid Yoigo carrier.
I happened upon an article/blog by Robert Parks at snnyc.com "problems persist in ios 6.1.2.".
Although his situation did not relate to me, I tried a few tests on my own to see if I could stop the data leak without turning off my celular data and possibly push notifications, I think I found a solution that might help someone:
In ios 6.1.3 goto Settings/Mail, Contacts,Calenders and scroll down to Calendars and turn off " New Invitation Alerts" and also turn off "Shared Calendar Alerts".
My Cellular Network Data seems to be behaving. I only see a change in MB used when I open an ap that uses data.

  • Connecting to Broadband - stupid question

I'm helping my parents buy their first computer this Christmas and would like it to be as easy as possible.
They're going for an iBook to use around the house and broadband internet, so need a wireless connection to broadband.
Am I right in thinking that Airport Extreme only does dial-up? Will they need a router to connect into broadband (and if that's the case, wouldn't a wireless router do the job on it's own?)
    Thanks for your time

    iFelix
Thanks for you post - very useful.
This is getting more confusing for me! The set up they need is to have the wireless link in an upstairs office with a USB printer attached and be able to access internet and printer from downstairs in the living room.
I was thinking of signing them up with Namesco as ISP. They supply a BT Voyager 105 USB modem. This would then wire into an AEBS with a USB port for the printer. Namesco advertise the modem as being Mac compatible. I guess what you're saying is "only wired to the iBook, NOT to an AEBS"?
If I go for a wireless modem/router, it looks as if I would then have to buy a USB hub to be able to connect the printer to the ethernet router?
All seems a bit overkill as it's the same number of boxes I have here in my office (ADSL modem, router and hub).
I guess I was hoping that the AEBS would plug into the telephone socket and the printer would plug into the AEBS - 1 box instead of 3!
Do you know if there's such a beast as an ADSL wireless modem with USB ports?

I left my I phone connect to the ITune few hours and it looks like I lost all the info and now I can't activate it..Any suggestion?

Is it still charging if you connect it to the adapter? If yes, let it charge for about 10min, then connect to your computer in recovery mode, explained in this article:

  • Connect to broadband wireless, but not through Airport Extreme b/g

I have had an Airport Extreme BS working as a Gateway to my Wireless Broadband service since last July. The AEBS has been providing internet to a WinXP laptop, and an iMac running OSX 10.5.2. This has been working well since installed.
My Wireless Broadband is provided by Rogers and known as 'portable internet'. The Modem/antenna is the Motorola 'Expedience' device for outside perm installation.
Suddenly about 2 weeks ago, perhaps 3, we started experiencing problems. We would have fine performance for chunks of time, interrupted by complete internet connectivity loss. I would go through all the motions of reset on AEBS, on the service provider 'modem' and on the clients. Sometimes we got it back, mostly not.
I found that it looked like the DHCP setup on the AEBS wasn't reliable, in that the AEBS would sometimes get an address from the service provider, and sometimes not. This would then cause a failure of gateway and dns provision to the clients.. so everthing would fall apart.
Plugging a client directly into the service provider ALWAYS succeeded in getting an IP and DNS address. I've spent about 12 hours total on the phone to Rogers at this point, and from their side, working through detailed tests with me, say that they are reliebaly connecting to me, and reliably seeing me get ip/dns.
This leads me to believe that my AEBS has somehow been effected by an update, and now is having troubles handling the role of internal (private-side) dns and dhcp provider, or possibly that it's internal routing from private to public sides is somewhat in fault.
I didn't keep any records, but this would correlate with a number of updates i ran on the Airport utilities, and possibly with an OSX update i received automatically.
Airport Extreme BS version 5.7 ( 802.11b/g.. flying saucer )
Airport Utility version (Mac): 5.3 (530.22)
Airport utility version (Win): 5.3 (no build)
    Mac OSX 10.5.2
    1. Can anyone confirm similar issues?
    2. IS Apple aware of an issue ( i've heard from some Apple store employees that there seems to be a buzz )?
    3. Is this related to TimeCapsule release?
Does Apple listen to these forums, and if so, perhaps it's time to give us an update eh? A little bit of collaboration to save us all this massive headache would be appreciated. Just ask and i'll give you all the information i can dump.
Gotta hit post while i still have a connection.

    Thank you Bob
I have taken your advice and reverted to DHCP from the AEXP do the address assignment to both Expresses, and I have taken great care with the WDS setup, but still it doesn't work.
Looking at the logs on the WDS main, this is what I see (the station referred to being the WDS remote):
    May 10 19:49:34          Severity:5          Deauthorizing station 00:11:24:01:15:97 [2]
    May 10 19:49:54          Severity:5          Deauthenticated with station 00:11:24:01:15:97 (4-way timeout)
(This is even with a solid green on both Expresses.)
HOWEVER: I have just tried rebooting both of them - main followed by remote - and now they seem to have realised what they're supposed to be doing and both have IP addresses.   This is on my desk.  The next step is to see whether I can get an IP address on a device attached by wire.
They do say patience is a virtue.  I can testify to that being true with WDS!

  • BT have failed to connect my broadband. Frustrate...

    Hi,
    Please can someone help me?
I moved house on the 21st of October and rang up BT on the 26th of October to order a new phone line and broadband.  I was told their was a credit red flag on the property I was moving to so it was referred to the credit team.  However, I was assured by the lady I spoke to (Jane) that as I had contacted them so early it was no problem to be connected on my required date (21/10/13).  I was told that someone would ring me to confirm that the credit process was done and I would receive an email and a letter with confirmation and my new phone number.
Needless to say, I received neither.  I rang up again from Dubai (where I was working) on the 6th of October to check the status and to ask why I had not been contacted in any way.  I was told by the Credit Referral person (Angel) that all was well and I was set for connection on the 21st.  I would receive confirmation 2 days prior to the switch.
Needless to say, I didn't.  I rang again on the 19th of October and spoke to Lisa in the Newcastle Easy Assist team who told me that it had never been referred to the Working Line Takeover team so I was not going to get connection on the 21st as promised.  She assured me that I would receive a phone call and an email within 24 working hours to sort it out.
Needless to say, I've received neither.  I rang again on the 22nd and spoke to James who told me that I was set to be connected on the 31st.  The problem being that it was a working line takeover (the previous tennant has never cancelled her phone line) and it would take 10 working days by law before they could disconnect her and reconnect me.  Fair enough, but as I placed my order on the 26th of Septemeber I think BT have had a lot more than 10 working days...
I rang again on the 28th and spoke to a very apologetic Leela just to double check that all was well and I was good to go.  I'm greatly concerned as i have never ever received so much as an email or a letter from BT to confirm anything.  She checked and could not guarantee the 31st as it's a - you guessed it - working line takeover.  But she assured me that I would be contacted within 48 hours (which will expire at 12:04 today) that I would be contacted and that I should receive an email and my wireless router via post yesterday.
Needless to say, I have received neither.
I explained to all 5 people I spoke to that I work from home and Broadband is essential as i connect via a VPN. So this is now affecting my ability to make a living.
Could you please - someone - tell me what I need to do or who I need to contact to get this connected tomorrow??  I am going to cancel and go with another company if I'm not able to work by 9am tomorrow morning.
I look forward to any advice you can offer.
BTW, I'm connected to the internet now via an friends Wifi.  Which I can't rely on on a regular basis.
    Thanks!

  • Loss of connection/slow broadband speed/crackling ...

Hi Guys, new to this but hope someone can help. Had our broadband with another internet provider for years til last June then noticed low speeds and internet dropping. Changed to our telephone provider for both telephone and internet, lasted a monthe as the problems were worse. Last November changed to BT on neighbours advice, they are on same exchange and same telegraph pole and they get between 11-13 mbs. Same issues with BT, made several calls to technical help but when broadband speed went to 0.02 mbs have had to make a nuisance of myself. Line engineer came out, changed btbox in home, disconnected any spare extensions not in use, checked wiring and gave clean bill of health  and reset broadband speed. Lasted 1 day then connection loss and major drop in speed. Broadband engineer was next, up the pole, down the exchange, wiring changed, bypassed ethernet cable to make sure not home computer, reset but same problems. In constant touch with technical support. At present, plugged into test socket, telephone line crackling, connection dropping every half hour ish, speed 0.242 mbs. Engineer out Monday. Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,
The noise on the line needs to be sorted first before the broadband, as the noise can drastically effect the broadbands performance.
    1) In test socket dial 17070 option 2 from landline.  there should be no noise but slight hum normal on cordless phones.
    2) unplug the broadband from the connected test socket and redo quite line test.  there should be no noise but slight hum normal on cordless phones.
If there is noise it needs to be reported by dialling 151 from landline. DO Not Mention Broadband as it could go to the broadband department and not the phone department. ie not broadband openreach engineer.
After the phone is sorted and the crackling gone, then your broadband should recover. If not then we can help you
    cheers
I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong

  • Netgear DG834v3 thinks it's connected to Broadband...but isn't

Hi, I have spent hours setting-up my router, checking & double checking and the problem is that the router tells me it's connected (via ethernet) and tests & diagnostics confirms this (even advising on the upload & download speeds on 5 second intervals) but won't jump to the netgear homepage.
It's supposed to do this on connecting & it also won't connect to another other site. Safari then confirms there isn't an active connection. I have been receiving broadband for a few months so this is also not the problem.
I now have a friend with the same situation. Has anyone heard of this problem before & could offer some advice?
    Cheers
    Jaqui

    Jaqui,
A few questions if I may:
Do you have a broadband /cable modem as a seperate device?
Do you connect to the DG834 using the ethernet cable that came with the router or wirelessely using the iMac's Airport system?
Have you tried resetting the router (see the manual)?
I suspect that you've got a firewall setting incorrect that won't allow web pages (Port 80) to pass through the router on to the iMac.
    Thanks
    mrtotes

  • Problem connecting to broadband

    Hello,
My problem is fairly straightforward, but it's bugging me to some extent. I ordered BT Broadband last week, yesterday the engineer arrived, as it was also the activation day. However, to this hour I cannot connect as my power light is orange and the broadband icon is flashing red. I contacted the BT call-centre, and they told be there are some technical difficulties in my area and that they will update me next morning! I find this unacceptable, as I want to know what is the actual problem, at least, and an estimate on when I can use the services I ordered.
I depend on the internet connection for my university courses, and I cannot afford any unforseen delays.

  • Loss of connection with Broadband from modem/hub.

    Hi guys,
Just had BT Infinity installed last Friday and within an hour of the engineer leaving, the blue broadband light on the HH3 turned to Red.  After going through all the troubleshooting you get from the page that displays when you try and access the Internet, I couldn't find anything wrong, tried restarting the HH3 and turning it off and on again with no resolution.
I then decided to power off the white openreach modem even though the DSL light was still lit and green and hey presto, after this restarted and I restarted the hub again, it came back on.
The problem is that since then, I am losing the connection in exactly the same way every few hours.  Sometimes in the space of a few minutes and this is highly frustrating when the hub is downstairs and my PC is upstairs and I have to keep going up and down to reset it.  Using Hub manager to restart the hub has no effect as I need to restart the modem as well.
The engineer did say that the speed will go up and down over the next 10 days and you may lose connection for a few minutes but the connection never comes back on again.  Yesterday morning I noticed it had disconnected so left it all day while at work and still no connection when I came home.
Now being a Windows Network administrator, it seems to me that there is an issue with the hardware somewhere and I would think that the issue would be with the modem as this has to be restarted in order for the connection to come back on again.
Has anyone else had this same issue?  I had the old BT Home hub before on regular broadband and had no issues whatsover.  A colleague of mine said his father had the same issue and they had to replace his modem and hub because the engineer told him the hardware is rubbish and it kept burning out.
I don't want to have to spend more money getting a decent router, why should I?  BT should provide hardware that works and is of good quality.
Can anyone else comment on this or can any mods get involved please?  I'm starting to regret getting this after only 5 days!
    Many thanks
    John
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi John,
I've been going through exactly the same thing as you for the last 2-3 months. My first few weeks on Infinity were fine actually, then Homehub started dropping connection to the broadband a few times a day, now it's every 10-15 minutes. It's been ongoing for a couple of months now and last week I received a replacement Homehub after contacting one of the mods here. No change, in fact if anything it's worse. It's entirely useless to me to be honest, I can't watch anything online, play any games online and to work from home I have to use a 3G dongle (it's slow, but at least it stays on for longer than 15 minute intervals).
Anyway, needless-to-say my BT Infinity experience has been terrible so far. I've seen a few posts on here from people who have had what has sounded like a similar problem and they have swapped out the Homehub for a 3rd party router and have found it to solve the problem completely. It's something I have considered, but until BT actually admit to me that the cause of the problem is their crappy hardware then I'm not going to risk spending the money.
The mod that contacted me did mention that if the replacement hub doesn't fix the problem (it hasn't) then it might be an issue with the PPP session/RAS server and that he'd report the fault to BT Wholesale for me if that is the case. I e-mailed him this morning asking him to do so.
    Good luck!
