hi.
pls. state if your new pc is w/less or wired.
if it's w/less do you have your rtr's w/less settings like your network name or ssid & if w/less network is secured do you know whats your security code or password for w/less network?
if it's wired, just connect it to any numbered ports on the rtr via ethernet cable.

  • Connecting a new computer through linksys router

I have a WRT54G wireless router ... I want to connect a new laptop through it ... but I need either a network key or a password ... cant locate these .. can anyone help?

To get network key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier. Go to wireless tab. Go to wireless security sub-tab. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key

  • Cannot connect a new computer with vista

    Hi !
I have the wireless router WRT54G and I am currently using a computer with Windows 2000 to connect to the router. The router works perfectly with this computer. However, I bought a new sony computer with windows vista. This new computer recognizes the router and is connected to it. However, when I open the explorer and cannot go to any web page. Can anybody help me out with this? Thanks!
    Matias

ohhh..too complicated... you dont need to customize the settings if its already connected to the network.
    >>If its already connected, make sure its getting an ip address coming from the router with a valid dns servers.
    >>Try to ping router's default gateway and check if its communicating with it.
    >>ping a website *(ex. ping yahoo.com)*. check if its getting replies.
Its just a simple and basic networking procedure.

  • Lost music off ipod when connected to new computer....

Found an ipod (never had one before and don't know much about it). Plugged it into my new computer, and all the music on the ipod disappeared. Didn't show up in my iTunes library. Found some of the music in My Computer, but not all music was listed there. I thought all songs had been deleted, but iPod shows most of it's memory is still being used. Question #1: Why are only some of the songs showing in My Computer? Question #2: Is there any way to retrieve all the "lost" music? Question #3: Why is iPod memory so full if I can't see any music on the iPod? Sorry to be so clueless!

This ipod was lost at a ski resort and we gave the owner 2 years to inquire about it, which he never did. After a customer has been contacted about a lost item and doesn't reply that season, the item is donated or given to employees to pick and choose from. We gave him 2 years.
You would be suprised how many ipods, cell phones, car keys, etc. are lost and never inquired about.
I reset the ipod to it's original factory settings and have a buddy who is going to download the songs from his ipod to mine. Since we like the same type of music this will work best for me since most of the music originally on the ipod was crap anyway.
Thanks for you snide comment instead of answering my question Chris.

  • IPad connection to new computer. 2 options: 1) set up as new iPad, 2) restore from (non-existent) backup. Will option 1) wipe all my data, setting

How do I connect my iPad to iTunes  on my laptop (not done so before) without losing apps, settings & data. Option 1 is the only one that I can do as there is no backup, but option 1) sounds like it will wipe everything and set iPad up as factory-fresh device?
I need to connect to upgrade to ios8 as there is insufficient memory on the iPad to download the update files.
    Thanks
    Stephen

It will wipe everything from your device. You can transfer any iTunes store purchases (music, apps, etc.) using the instructions in the article below. However, you need to make sure that you import your photos before doing the "Set up as New":

  • IPhone 5 won't connect to new computer

I recently bought a MacBook Air, thinking that it would connect to my existing iPhone 5 easily, but when i connect it to iTunes, only the songs I have purchased (not downloaded) come up. Also, it says if I want to sync the phone with the computer, it will delete all of the current apps and contacts on my phone. I never had trouble with my PC, so anyone know how to fix this?

Move your iTunes library from your previous computer to your current computer, then all your stuff will be there.

  • 5si/mx LaserJet problems connecting to new computer

I have a LaserJet 5si/mx with a JetDirect 10Base-T card connected through a router. I am trying to connect it to a new iMac, but the computer won't see it. My internet connection is through the same router and it works. Any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help.

Of course there is a USB connector for the ipod mini! http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E4 EB91E&nplm=MA591G/A . That will take you to the apple website where you can purchase the cord. I don't know why it dosent list the ipod mini under the compatible list maybe because its a bti older but thats the same cord i got with my ipod touch and it works with my mini aswell.

  • WRT54G ver 6 router drops all existing connections when new computer joins

    Hello,
I have a WRT54G version 6 Wireless router that operates fine with one exception. I generally connect to the router from one of three laptops in the house. If one laptop is connected, this existing connection drops as soon as another laptop connects to the router. The connections will automatically reconnect in a 10 seconds or so, but it dumps my VPN connection when it disconnects. I am tired of re-establishing the VPN connection everytime this happens.
Any idea why it is doing this? Better yet, how can I get it to stop?
two of the laptops use Windows XP, the third is Vista.
    Thanks,
    DM

I don't know exactly what is causing your problem, but clearly you are having some poor wireless connections.
The first thing to do would be to download and install the latest drivers for all of your computer's wireless adapters.
If you still have the problem, then try the following, more or less in order:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
Some users have reported improved wireless connections by switching to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • I lost the CD that came with my ipod and can't connect to new computer

When I put my shuffle in the USB port it says there is an unknown host in the port that windows does not recognized (it says it has "malfunctioned"). I don't have the CD that came with my ipod to reconnect it to this computer. A guy from another forum told me all I needed was itunes but I have itunes. The ipod isn't recognized by either.I believe I need that CD unless there is a downloadable version of the cd here somewhere? HELP.

You don't need a CD. As noted, you need iTunes.

  • New computer, new time capsule, how do I connect?, new computer, new time capsule, how do I connect?

I have a new Macbook Pro, and have not backed up anything yet on Time Machine. I want to do backups on my new Time capsule instead. How do I do this, and will it free up space on my MacBook? I have 22,000 photos and it is almost full. Thanks!

SImply plug in by ethernet to do the first backup, thereafter you can use wireless.
Use the airport utility to setup the TC on the first occasion but it should not need much.. your question indicates you haven't read the basic setup info.. there are links at the head of this discussion area to download them.. It is pointless to repeat what you can read.
Backup will do exactly that.. backup.. it will not save any space. (nor use any).
If you need to offload material from the MBP, the TC is not the place to offload it to.. strongly recommend you buy an external drive, plug it straight into the MBP and offload material to there.. then include that external drive in your TM backups..
If you put this material on the TC.. it has no backup.. and the TC has no way to back itself up.. nor can TM backup a network drive.

  • How do I connect my new Macbook Pro to an LG HX300G digital projector?

I just got this new computer and the connections are different. I realize that we now have thunderbolt instead of the video connection I had on my last MacBook. I have to teach a class on Friday. How can I connect my new computer to the projector? There doesn't seem to be an adaptor cable made for this. The projector is relatively new, expensive, and I can't buy another one. The video cable from the projector is a PC-type thing with two screws.

Thanks so much! I found exactly what I need. I just needed the language. I will use VGA for this purpose but might order the HDMI cable too as you never know what you're going to run across with weird equipment out there. I appreciate your help.

  • Ipod syncing problem new computer

first I am not very familiar with ipods and itunes, but this if for my daughter.
Old computer crashed windows xp, bought new computer windows vista, downloaded itunes to new computer, connects to ipod and authorized new computer, WILL NOT SYNC, notice old computer has different version of itunes, and when connected to new computer it says "Upgrade software to ipod", Will this correct the problem?
Please help, I have been looking in this discussion forum for about 2 hours now and can't find any solution.
    Thanks

Whatever you do - DO NOT UPDATE THE IPOD FIRMWARE! Itunes has ruined my two iPods and I cannot restore them...Worked fine for two years and now nothing, all because of a simple firmware update. My best advice to you is to get rid of Windows Vista and put XP back on your system...Vista has major compatibility issues with any older hardware - I wiped it out and put XP back on, no problems with hardware, just my iPod is ruined.

  • Transferring music from old to new computer ?

    hey!
so i tried following the tutorial for transferring music from my old computer to my new computer (both of them PC's) and i got as far as the "copy itunes folder into ipod then connect to new computer"
now the next step is to take that itunes folder outta my ipod folder and place it into "my music" and then delete the itunes folder from my ipod so i free up my memory again.
the only problem is i don't know where this "ipod folder" is located so i can't extract the itunes folder and now i have all this memory used up.
has anyone done this before because the PC version of the tutorial doesn't seem to be working. my question is what should this ipod folder look like and where can i find it?
    THANKS!

Hi cynthia I know what your going through the same exact thing happened to me (I feel your pain and stress). You can use Windows Explorer to delete the folder it should be obsvisoly labeled I belive as "Itunes" and if you acidentally delete your music its already on your new computer anyway so all you would have to plug it in and it would sync...
