No connection with Firewire but will connect and discharge with USB2.0

My 3rd generation 40gb iPod no longer appears on my desktop or iTunes window when connected via firewire. While connected, to 3 different Macs so far, it behaves as if its plugged into the AC adaper- the charging icon appears after a few minutes but will not mount.
However, when connecting with USB 2.0 the iPod mounts fine but it receives NO power, the battery discharges within 5 minutes and shuts off.
I've known about the USB 2.0 problem but never worried about it until, suddenly ( and apparently others are having this problem ) I am no longer able to mount the iPod via firewire.
I've tried resetting in all its various forms including toggeling the hold button and plugging into the AC adapter and I have thoroughly read the trouble shooting pages.
Has Apple "orphaned" firewire? Is the 3rd generation iPod doomed to 5 minute or less connection times? Is this just a glitch that an update will fix?

Its not the cable. I have cables and other Macs all over. I've tried the other Macs and different cables plus different cables and diferent dock connectors.
Sorry, I should have mentioned that I already eliminated that possibility.
The firewire problem just started Sep 1, 2006. I'm wondering if the last iPod update that occured the last time I was mounted via firewire initiated the problem. This seems more likely than it might have becuase of other posts complaining of firewire connection problems.

You either pay Apple to do it (usually you will get a replacement refurbished phone). Make sure to BACK IT UP first before taking it in. Plug into a computer that has the latest iTunes, do a sync and confirm the existence of the backup in iTunes / Preferences / Devices. If they give you a replacement, plug it back into the same computer and do a Restore to recover your stuff.

Netware Access Point won't connect with Windows, but will connect to Macs

Recently we acquired Cable Internet Service, which was brought into the X Serve Network Card. After that it is transfered onto the second network card which then dishes out DHCP to all our client computers (including laptops). However, it appears that only the Macintosh laptops are obtaining internet, while the windows laptops show they have a wifi connection, but the browser applications refuse to launch on everyone of them. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you.

When you reinstalled iTunes, you may not have done it correctly. It needs to be done in a specific order, or it will just compound your problems. There is a problem with the latest iTunes in Windows, and it has been requiring a removal and reinstallation. See this support document support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and remove and reinstall by following these instructions exactly. This should fix your problem.

Long story short, I downladed an illegal file on my computer, and my internet provider cut me off. They made me connect an ethernet cable to the modem to go online and sign a I will not ever do again ordeal. Ever since then though, my computer will not connect with its wifi. this happened to me before but it fixed itself when i updated my software.
now it doesn't work again, it's not the firewall, because i've tried with it both on and off.
there are also no more updates to install.
i can't sign into my itunes account, and the error i get says the network connection time timed out or something.

iOS devices do not have the BT profiles that support file sharing and othr general functions. See:

Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

FYI
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Try another cable. I dubt it will help but do it since you have more cables
- Try another USB port
- Try on another cable. Again I doubt it will do anything
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Without knowing anything about your WiFI system, my opinion is that your wifi signal is either, weaker than your downstairs neighbor, or more likely, your wi fi system is suffering from interference. The first thing you should do is change the channel it is operating on. See if that helps.
I tend to think it is not the router, but can only offer a guess, since you did not describe your system.

I have the same problem with my ipod touch ... but im trying to find a way to fix it without restoring it...
but one fix is to shut it down completely ... then press and hold BOTH the power button and the home button .. hold both of those 4 ten seconds .. then release the power button but still hold down the home button .. and then it'll show something that says "connect to itunes" once u get it connected to itunes , click the restore button ... BEWARE THIS WILL WIPE OUT EVERYTHING ON YOUR IPOD!!! IT WILL RESTORE IT BACK TO FACTORY SETTINGS , AS IF U JUST BOUGHT IT !!!!! then it should work fine again .. but u will lose all data on there besides the things you have synced with itunes already..
Thats y im iffy with doing this , im trying to find a fix where i wont have 2 restore it but i dont think there is 1 :'(

try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.
