No contents of the BootCamp folder present in the usb drive

Hi guys,
I have a problem with this BootCamp thing. So I have installed windows 8 pro on my iMac(late 2012) and the first thing i did when I installed it was go to the BootCamp folder in the usb drive (my external hard drive) and click the setup.exe thing. I clicked next continously and then it started extracting some thing/file with a weird name. It was taking a long time so I closed it and started it again. It was again taking a long time to extract the same weird-name-file/thing (It did not take this long to do the same when I installed windows 7 Ultimate). So I closed my computer and after some time switched it on. To my astonishment,
when I opened the BootCamp folder (the same one I mentioned before), it was EMPTY! Can you guide me on how to bring it back?
Questions:
Q:Did you Download the Windows Support Software?
A:Duh, It's permanently checked in my version of BootCamp (got it pre-installed with Mavericks)
Q:Did someone by mistake delete the contents of the folder?
A:Nope.
Oh, And one more thing, There is no audio coming when i switch to windows 8 pro and it can't even read the wifi whereas Maverics can read about 20-30 wifis. I know it's got something to do with drivers but still, can you guide me?
Note: Feel free to ask any question. Thanks anyway.

Sounds from your post that you are trying to install the Support software from within OSx. You install the support software from Windows. Read the Boot Camp instructions. You install Windows. Take out the Windows disk. Shut down your computer. Insert the usb containing the support software. Boot your computer into Windows. Windows will automatically detect the support software on the usb and install it. If Windows does not automatically install the software, navigate to the usb, while still in Windows, and double click the setup.exe file.

  • How can I access the contents of the USB drive plugged into the Airport through Windows 8?

We have an equal amount of Macbook Pro's and Window's computers in our house and we just purchased the Airport Time Capsule 3TB.   It works great, but, I want to plug in an external USB Hard Drive to the Airport and access it through the WIndows 8 computers.  Within the Airport Utility, I can see the drive, but, I cannot access the drive through explorer in Windows 8.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance....

The Time Capsule's file sharing service works best if the drive is formatted for HFS+, but it will also work with those formatted in FAT32.
The Time Capsule will share out this drive using the SMB protocol which is used by Windows or Linux-based computers.....
    You said.....
I have to figure out if Windows 8 can read the drive if it is formatted with teh HFS+.  I suspect not
To confirm again what Tesserax said.....Windows 8 can read and write to the HFS+ formatted network drive.  FAT16/32 will also work.

You can open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up.
To move the current backup folder from C: to D: type in this command and press <Enter>
    Move "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
Where <User> is your Windows user name.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location type in this command and press <Enter>
    MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
If your external drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "D:\Backup" accordingly in both commands.

  • Using an external drive with shared files (iPhoto, iTunes), attached to a Time Capsule, can the contents of the external drive be backed-up to the internal Time Capsule drive? Perhaps a RAID1 mirror to a partition?

Using an external drive with shared files (iPhoto, iTunes), attached to a Time Capsule, can the contents of the external drive be backed-up to the internal Time Capsule drive? Perhaps a RAID1 mirror to a partitioned Time Capsule? I understand that the Time Machine (software) cannot backup a networked drive (the external) and that Time Capsule (the router/wireless hard drive) does not have its own backup software... so it won't backup the connected drive. What I would like is an alternate solution for having an automated backup of a networked drive. A 2TB Time Capsule has more than enough space for Time Machine backups of my family of Macbooks, so I had hoped to mirror a 500GB external drive (with shared media files) to a portion of the Time Capsule internal hard drive. I assume this would require a partition of the Time Capsule drive. If not, would the sparse file from the various computers being backed up need to be copied to the external drive as part of the RAID1 setup? This seems like overkill for the Time Machine backup, but it would cover the media files.

The complexity with this idea is the software has to run from a Mac computer on your network.. so you need a Mac turned on, probably most of the day.
It isn't possible to partition the TC although you can create a image area.
The software would have to copy the material, that means all files to be copied, go from USB drive, back to the Mac, then back to the TC, and written to the drive. In other words you have just added Network congestion, although a proper incremental backup type software will not actually use a lot of capacity.
Finally it will be slow.. network drives are slower than internal drives. Well USB connected drive is much slower than the same drive connected directly to the computer.. and if the drive is connected directly to a computer it can be shared with the network.

Computer iMac7,1 has been giving sundry problems for sometime. Within the last six weeks I have reinstalled the OS (Snow Leopard),without affecting the overall contents of the hard drive.
±3 weeks later the problems became more serious and I againreinstalled the OS and installed OS 6.6.7 from the internet.
I used the option to restore from the external backup driveand went back some time as it was my intention to reinstall individualcomponent in an attempt to find out where the problem might lie. This hasintroduced an entirely new problem! If I open Time Machine from the desktop itappears that all backups from late 2009 to June 2011 are intact. But, in thiscase there are none of the restore functions &c on screen. The latter areonly shown if Time Machine is opened from the menu bar or from the dock but, inthis case, available are only backups in late 2009!
I also opened the Apple Hardware Test in an attempt toestablish the nature of the problem. The ‘quick’ version said there’s nothingwrong; the more detailed one reported “Error detected, 4HD/11/40000004.” I haveagain tried to employ this test but nothing I do can induce it to open!!!
What to do? I need help urgently and would appreciate anyadvice that offers solutions to the problem.

Why can't you provide specific instructions here in HT203909 (Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD) about how to make the USB drive bootable?  The article referenced for partitioning the drive is not dedicated to Bootcamp--too long, too many options.  How do you make it bootable?

If your BC Assistant shows the option to create a USB Installer, it automatically is marked as bootable. There is no need to have manual intervention to make a bootable USB. Once the process is manually modified, it is supported by the person modifying it.
You have two or three options (depending on your Mac Model).
    1. Create USB... - Use a USB2 flash drive, which is erased and formatted. If your Mac supports ISOs then BCA will prompt for the Media. Any Mac which does not have a built-in Optical drive will support an ISO. There are specific Mac models which support both, DVD and USB based installation.
    2. Download Software from Apple servers...
    3. Install Windows...
Are any additional instructions really necessary?

  • Mirror contents of the Promise drive externally

    Hi,
I currently run a Mac Mini (with OS X Server) and a Promise Pegasus drive attached to it for file storage. I'm wanting to mirror at the end of each day the contents of the Promise drive in an external network. Can anyone recommend an easy way of doing this without having to pay for a service (although i'm open to that)?

If you want to roll this on your own, look ar rsync (download and compile the 3.0.9 code as the Apple included is a wreck).  If you are not a command line jockey, look at tools like FileSynchronizer Pro and its brethren.  Carbon Copy Cloner can do the work too but it is now a for purchase app and can also provide historical archive.

  • All files in Blackberry folder on Micro SD/USB drive gone!

how could something like this happen? the minute I plug my micro SD, which contains files in a blackberry folder (this folder works fine when transferring files back and forth between my blackberry and windows PC), into my used macbook pro that i just bought today, the folder is completely deleted. two other folders which i didn't open in the micro sd are still there. all i did was open the blackberry folder when the micro sd popped up as an icon in the background. i had some mp3 files and video files saved in a subfolder of the blackberry folder. I went to a subfolder named "video" and carefully selected just five mp3 files. with the files selected, i held the control key while tapping the trackpad to bring up the pop-up menu. i then clicked on "open file from" and selected iTunes on the right to listen to these songs. what happened next was bizarre. iTunes wouldn't play the songs. So I closed the folder and reopened it only to find that the subfolder names in the blackberry folder appear in a bunch of funny characters! i close the folder again and when i reopen the usb drive icon, the blackberry folder itself doesn't show up at all this time.

what make me really mad is that i repeated the same exact process but with another folder called "mp3" in the same usb drive and the mp3 files i selected played in itunes without a hitch! so what is going on here? i lost some important files in my blackberry folder and when i looked at the hidden trash.bin files by plugging the micro sd/usb drive into a windows pc, the size of the trash files are 0k and 4k. there's nothing in the trash files at all.

  • WRT610N Shared folder area is Blank - USB DRIVE

I have a 1tb drive connected to the USB port of my WRT610N
    Firmware Version: 2.00.00 B05
I can create a shared folder for individual folders as well as the entire drive. However the Shared folder area of the Disk tab in the Storage area of the routers interface is blank, just white area.
If I go to a PC on the network and type \\192.168.1.1 or \\WRT610N  I see the shares I have created. But clicking on them results in a Network error.... Windows cannot access, path not found.
So I can't connect.  I have created a group and user in the administration, made sure PC and router config are both connected to the same workgroup name... WORKGROUP.
Also when navigating into the storage area of the router I get the error ...  In a popup labled "Message from Webpage" the error is "Shared Folder location not exist, Please check all shared folders"
I am hioping I am missing something simple. I have logged in under the admin account and the new account I created and same results.

Click Start>>Run/Start search and type "\\192.168.1.1" (Without quotes) and hit enter, and it should prompt you for the Username and Password, in the Username and Password use "admin" all in lower case and click Ok...Now you should be able to see your USB Drive... You need to right click on it and select "Map Network Drive" and check the box Enable and below click on Finish... This will Map the USB Drive on your computer... Once done you will be able to Send and Receive the data from your Computer to the USB Drive...

  • BootCamp won't boot with USB-drive connected

    Hi everyone,
since I installed my BootCamp partition I encounter a strange problem. I have an LG external DVD-drive connected via USB to my iMac. Everytime I try to boot Windows while the LG is connected the boot process just stops and gives me a white display. If I unplug the drive from the USB-Port everything works fine, and once windows is booted I can even reconnect the USB-drive and it works fine. But as you might understand always unplugging and plugging really gets to my nerves. I know of a couple friends who encounter the exact same problem, they also complain about this...
Also strange is the fact, that if I boot OSX the LG is connected and everything works fine...
Searched the forum and web, and wasn't able to find something usefull...
I hope there is somebody here who can help me...
    Thanks in advance...

  • I need help setting Win7 Advanced attributes for the USB drive connected to my EA4500 router

I can drill down to the Permission Entry for [foldername] window for a folder on the USB drive. There I learn that user group Everyone does not have the Full Control permission box checked. When I check the box and then click Apply, I get an Error Applying Security window. If I click Continue there, I get a Windows Security window that says "Unable to save permission changes on [foldername]. Access is denied." with no way out but an OK button.
I have Administrative authority in Win7, but maybe I need to know some Unix voodoo to come to terms with my router-mounted drive. I put the drive on the router to make always available, and I'd like to get it to work. For example, I can't turn the archive bit off for any file or folder on that drive when it's mounted on the router. Not with ATTRIB -A and not with XCOPY /M.
Just to stuff it in my face, XCOPY /M returns a two-line error message for every sub-folder that exists in the target folder:
    Access denied
Unable to create directory - foldername
    Help! And thanks in advance.
    :+)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Bill Dennes,
(Solutions/Work-Arounds below this paragraph, but sets up some useful information.)
As for the Security tab, I'm unsure of exactly why it doesn't appear on the tab itself for folders; however, clicking "Advanced -> Change Permissions -> Edit" will display the permissions; although, this doesn't appear to be a part of the problem in a sense. Additionally, “Everyone” always only has read & execute and is also not a part of the issue. To go further with this, the only users that have delete permission are “0” and “root” and since we can delete, we “should” be logged in as one of them and as such have “Full Control.”
As for the drive type, I'm unsure of why it "changes" it from FAT32 to NTFS (probably something to do with how it handles permissions); however, this is also not a part of the issue.
I have a flash drive formatted to FAT32, albeit only a 4GB and on an EA6500 with secure sharing enabled, that it does these both to and "xcopy testfolder Y:\ /e /m" works on it when all files and folders have the A attribute; however, disabling secure sharing makes it fail.
I’ve looked further into this and there are three ways I know of, as of right now, to make copying files with the bat file work for you:
The first way is to enable secure sharing and map the drives using it, once that is done you won’t need to enter the password again and your script will work as you currently have it coded. Given you have no need for the secure sharing, but it’s a simple solution. This is also the only way to be able to modify any attributes, although the only ones I know of that it will accept are R and A.
The second way is to instead use ROBOCOPY with the options /e, /m, and /copy:dt.
    For example: "robocopy testfolder Y:\ /e /m /copy:dt"
/e = Copy subdirectories, including empty ones. (or use /S which will not copy empty folders)
/m = Copy only files with the Archive attribute and reset it.
/copy:dt = Copy data and timestamps, does not copy attributes, security, owner info, or auditing info.
The only important option to use is /copy:dt, the others can be replaced with whatever you need. Note that things like Song Author will still get copied as they are a part of the data section. I don’t believe XCOPY supports doing this, and in either case robocopy is a better solution that comes with Windows Vista and up, and can be gotten for those below Vista.
The third way is to add a section to the script to remove attributes from all folders before using xcopy to copy to the NAS, or modify the section that is causing the folders to have the A attribute as xcopy will gladly still copy them with /E or /S enabled.
The issue seems to be that when secure sharing is off, the server refuses attribute changing of folders, which is what is causing XCOPY to fail, as I suspect it attempts to change the attributes on the folders. Similarly, using robocopy without /copy:dt will also fail but gives you “Error 5 … changing file attributes [folder/path] Access is denied”. This is why I suspect that when XCOPY says “unable to create directory” that it is actually trying to change the attributes of the directory. Furthermore, it seems that the reason this works while secure sharing is on is that while it is on, the server pretends to accept the attributes but in reality ignores all attributes besides R. The server then adds the A attribute to all files put onto it, which you can only modify when secure sharing is enabled for some reason. The exception to this is that in either case, any file with the “H” (hidden) attribute, will not be copied, even if explicitly told to copy it. (This is true for both robocopy and xcopy; you also cannot manually add it afterwards.)
Is there an issue with the files on the NAS having the A attribute? If so the only way I currently know of to get rid of it is to enable secure sharing and have the script remove the attribute after copying. For example, when you look at the permissions, the user "0" and “root” have full control as I've previously stated. You can tell Windows to specifically use one of them when mapping the drive, which in turn should give you full control; however, the server still refuses modifying attributes without secure sharing on for some strange unknown reason. Although, I am no "UNIX gearhead," so there may in fact be another way that I do not know of. The only time they are not listed as “Full Control” on my end is when a file was previously marked Read-Only, in which case they all share the same limited control. When I said in the beginning that the permissions are not a part of the problem in a sense, it’s more of that for the general case of what you need to do, they aren’t the problem as long as you don't need the R attribute and having the A isn't an issue, as it seems to be more of the server is refusing attributes even though we should have permission; however, they do appear to be a bit weird and are possibly displaying incorrect when secure sharing is disabled.
I'd like to apologize in advance for any unclear, weirdly stated, or just plain odd things said in this post as I was pulled away to do a bunch of things and ended up editing, adding things, and finishing it late into the night and hope that one of the above is an acceptable resolution to your issue.
