No controls for Quicktime movies in Explorer on PC.

Just wondering if this the norm. My QT movies that I have uploaded to web pages have no controls. Also, I have to click the movie to get the movie to start. The sounds starts automatically.
Here is the page. Click the top tab btw. http://www.intuitionusa.com

I suspect it's your way of embedding the media. You only use the
tag while QT works most reliable by using nested
and
tags, see here:
In GL's Inspector select the "object & embed" option for your media.

  • Thumbnails for QuickTime MOV files?

    Hi
Is there a way to make Windows Explorer create thumbnails for QuickTime MOV files? I'm really desperate to get a solution. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You should have known this would be caused by some registry entries were modified incorrectly by some software, especially third party codec pack.
I would suggest you import the a good known copy from a good display windows 7 computer, just import such this content:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov]
    @="WMP11.AssocFile.MOV"
    "Content Type"="video/quicktime"
    "PerceivedType"="video"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\OpenWithProgids]
    "AppX55e91fphzr8a583p8cbxv7jpr8bk6xb9"=hex(0):
    "AppXhjhjmgrfm2d7rd026az898dy2p1pcsyt"=hex(0):
    "WMP11.AssocFile.MOV"=hex(0):
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\PersistentHandler]
    @="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\ShellEx]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]

  • Hello there - I am sharing an iPhoto library across two accounts on the same computer - it works fine EXCEPT for Quicktime movies - they play on one account and claim I don't have the rights on the other - all permissions are on and ok?

It should be in the Users/ Shared folder.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Note the option to check and repair Library Permissions

  • Video Encoding/Capture software for Quicktime movie format

    Hi,
We are exploring using the Quicktime .mov format for encoding live video & audio. It seems that QuickTime for Windows only allows recording Audio. The new Movie Recording option under the File menu which is present in the Mac version is not available on the Windows version. I want to find out if anyone knows of any good encoding software for the Quicktime .mov format. We want to record in either H.264 format or better quality and we want to use 240 kbps (or better) data rate.
    Saad

I used the cd-rom option and it worked!
... ALL iM's preset do work for youtube uploads...
    but...:
youtube videos have a certain size, allow certain framerates, and get converted into flash-video format.. therefore, the input-format should fullfill some minimum quality ...
e.g. this video (a filmschool project with some REALLY sad story... ehm, well, film-school... )
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvdiQrddZ7o
was uploaded with "my" settings .. done with a 3ccd miniDV camcorder and edited in iMovie...
movements are smooth, details crystal clear...

  • Export settings for quicktime movie to use in DVD Studio Pro

    The workflow:
I created a movie and did extensive sound adjustments in iMovie and a few video edits, and exported it to a quicktime format:
    compression H.264
    Quality: High
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1280x720
Since then I upgraded to FCS, and tried to create a DVD with DVD SP and import the movie, and I get this error:
    Import error:
One or more files failed to import. Common reasons for this are that they do not match the current project's video standard or their file format is not supported.
I'm fairly sure I have matching video standard...and the file format has always been supported before.
I imported the quicktime (.mov) file to FCP and added some edits, recreated the chapter markers, and early on there was a pop-up that said my movie format did not match the project settings, so I checked the "okay" to adjust the video file to match.
When I finished, I exported the file from FCP to a quicktime movie with the "current settings" that have always worked with DVD Studio Pro before, and I'm getting the same error.
I don't know where the problem is.  Both the original movie I created in iMovie and the movie I recreated in FCS will import to iDVD.  I wanted the better quality production from DVDSP....
I no longer have the iMovie project file.  (I thot I was done.)  I do  have the original footage, but I'm already three days in and hoping to  avoid starting over.
I would sure appreciate any help!
    Thanks!

The specifications you listed are the problem.
I can't comment on iMovie -don't use it personally.
From FCP, you would export a self contained movie using the current Timeline settings (not H.264 ever)
Bring that file into Compressor and apply one of the time based DVD presets that the running time of your movie fits into. This will produce a MPEG 2 video file and an AC3 audio file. Bring both into DVDSP and author.
A DVD video is always standard def 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
Converting the output from FCP to H.264 is adding an unneeded compression stage that will compromize quality -because DVD assets are always MPEG 2 / AC3. Even if DVDSP accepts that H.264 file, it gets transcoded again using DVDSP's own compression system.
All of this is covered in the DVDSP user manual. Take the time to read it. DVD authoring is complicated if you just jump in and start poking around, simple if you take the time to understand the basics.

  • Html code for Quicktime movie

I just designed my first web site with one html page holding a Quicktime movie. The only browser that does not load it is Safari which keeps looking for a Shockwave movie, which of course does not exist. What do I need to add to the code so that Safari can load the right thing. The site is in DreamweaverMX2004.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)   safari v2.0.3

Your page code is telling my browser to look for the "wrong" plug-in.
The page uses the wrong class ID and code for the QT plug-in.
Your page uses a .mov file but uses a class ID of:
    clsid:166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000
And a plug in download for Macromedia.
A .mov file would use a class ID of:
    clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B
and the plug-in download page should point the the QT download page:
    pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"
More info on the links in the previous threads.
You'll get it sorted out once you use the right code for the media.

  • Flash type movie controller for Quicktime movies.

I plan on changing flash movies to Quicktime movies on some websites I manage so that they will play on iPads and iPhones but I want a movie controller that disappears when the cursor is not over the movie and I want a movie controller that is semi transparent like flash movie skins. All I get is the same "old" controller that has been on Quicktime movies for 15 years. How do it?

Here's my implementation of the HTML5 videos :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Movies/sublime/
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Movies/sublime/camendesign/
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Movies/sublime/camendesign/compact.html
Look at the source to see how it's done.
Camendesign defaults from *HTML5 MP4* to *HTML5 OGG* to QuickTime to Flash.
The compact.html page is my implementation. It's the easiest to understand and does not use JavaScript.

  • Multiple audio sources for quicktime movie recording

I want to record a Quicktime movie using iSight as the video input, external audio (guitar) via a Focusrite Saffire LE (1874) audio interface and internal audio (a backing track) from either iTunes, Logic 9 or MainStage 2 (I don't care which), so I can record myself playing and then send the video to another guitarist via Dropbox or similar.  Is this possible and if so how do I set it up on my iMac?
    Thanks.

QuickTime Player Pro, QuickTime X (Snow Leopard) and QuickTime 10.1 (Lion) all include a "New Movie Recording" feature. The camera can be the internal iSight or an externaly connected one and the audio can be internal or line in.
But you can only have one video and one audio source.
QuickTime Player Pro can be used to add additional "tracks" and the .mov container can have up to 99 of them. GarageBand can help you edit the track timing. It also includes other "instuments" and can play your video while you build additional tracks.
I would record via iSight but not include any audio. Then use GarageBand to add the additional audio tracks.

  • Clip Notes in CS4/Acrobat 9: exports transcript, no controls for QuickTime

When I use the Transcribe feature, then export my project to Clip Notes, it exports every transcribed word as a separate comment. There doesn't seem to be any way of suppressing that, and there doesn't seem to be a way of deleting a transcription either in PP or in Acrobat. The result is that the reviewer sees all these comments and has to fight with Acrobat to insert new comments. When I import the xfdf back into PP, I get the whole transcription loaded into markers along with the reviewer's comments. Unless I open every one, I can't tell what's what.
Is there at least a way of deleting the transcription in PP or Acrobat?
Also, if I export the video as QuickTime, there are no player controls in Acrobat. I only get player controls if I export as Windows Media. That means that some Mac users won't be able to use my Clip Notes exports. I've seen others asking about this, but no answers. Any ideas? I'm running this under Windows Vista Ultimate.

But I find it amazing that there's no way to delete the damn thing. Adobe made a big deal of transcription, but it seems they didn't regard it as more than a gimmick, since they did it half-baked. I think you're right that it's best not to use this "feature".
I don't know if it's necessarily half-baked, so much as it is an overly optimistic appraisal of the capability of the technology at this point in time. I mean, it does create words, and sometimes very interesting ones at that
What's interesting to me is that when I tested out the transcribe feature back when Adobe released the beta of Soundbooth CS4, it was MUCH more accurate--and I was testing it on the mixed, final soundtrack of a documentary captured from Betacam SP. The transcription wasn't anywhere near 100%, but it was actually usable. Now, it struggles on pristine audio from a single, clear voice track. Wish it wasn't so...
Anyway, you can stop the transcription from appearing in a Clip Notes export. Check out the following screenshot for the how-to:

  • Universavle Audio/Caption Control for muliple movies

    Hello!
We're working on an e-learning project. There are twenty
individual movies (why! it would be too large to place into one
movie ), each with it's own audio and caption script. Here's the
    challange...
We need a way were as the user turns off the audio/caption in
one movie it remains off when the rest of the movies are accessed.
Right now we're building the interface/shell with HTML and
embedding the converted swf files into the center of the interface.
It uses your typical "next" "back" buttons to access the different
    movies.
Is there some kind of script we can include in the captivate
or HTML files to enable this? We've tried in the past to have
individual Captivate files "talk" to each other and it hasn't
really worked out. Does anyone have a solutions...or even a work
    around.
Note: We have to work with Captivate or HTML because the
overall project needs to be SCORM compliant.

OK. The situation is a bit better than I thought. Any DVD burned with iDVD disables only the volume control on the REMOTE CONTROL of the Philips PET 1030/37. On the unit itself (as opposed to its hand-held remote) THE VOLUME CONTROL STILL WORKS. So, just to be clear, there still is something weird about DVDs made with iDVD, because the volume control on the hand-held remote does NOT work for them. On store-bought movie DVDs (not burned with iDVD), the hand-held remote DOES work (as well as the on-unit volume control). This issue starts to feel to me like a non-configurable option that they have pre-set in iDVD. Maybe someone familiar with the full DVD authoring software (DVD Studio Pro 4) could tell us what's going on. Of course that software is available ONLY as a component of Final Cut Studio 2. It is not available stand-alone.

  • Fast start for Quicktime movies on the web

    Hi All,
So I finished my first FCE project and posted the movie on my web site. But Quicktime doesn't start playing the movie until after it is completely downloaded. This doesn't happen with the other movies I have on my site, and as far as I can remember I used the sames options in Quicktime export. I selected the "fast start" option in the box "Prepare for Internet Streaming", as I always do.
Is there something more that I need to do when exporting a FCE project? Or is there another option that I forgot in the Quicktime export settings?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Florence

OK, I tried again and again and again... and I finally know what I did wrong. The movie was exported from FCE with the fast start option, but then I opened in with Quicktime to make a small change (define the poster), and apparently this also removed the fast start option. Now I'll know not to change anything after the export :-/

  • Controlling a QuickTime Movie

    Hello,
I am setting up my stage in Director, so that when the user
gets to a specific screen, they are presented with a couple of
    buttons.
When they click on a button, I would like it to automatically
load a movie and begin playing it (so no controls)
I have never scripted this before, and I'm unsure where to
begin. I know how to script buttons just fine, but I'm not sure
about making the movies "invisible" and "visible" and playing them
on a mousedown. Thanks for your help!

This is quite similar to what i'm trying to do: use buttons
    to switch between video's,
    anyone else have any ideas?
I figured you could just switch cast members? can't figure
    the code out though.
drop me an email if you figure it out and i'll do the same
    for you.

  • White screens for quicktime movies upon upgrade

Just in case anyone runs into this..
I just upgraded my macbook to 10.4.8 and as soon as I did I couldnt watch any .mov files.. not off my drive, not off a cd, not off the quicktime website.
Just a blank white screen came up. These were not non native quicktime codecs.
Reinstalling quicktime from apple's website directly did fix the problem.

QuickTime Pro now includes an "Export for Web" feature (File menu).
This method makes a "reference movie" that can "detect" your page visitors connection device (and speed) and serve up just the right file. It also makes the "poster" image file and writes the correct html page code to copy/paste into a new or existing Web page.
The poster image also show the "mouse hand" when the cursor move over it and includes a "click to play" graphic.

  • Creating thubnails for Quicktime .mov files.

Is there any way to create thumbnails for .mov files?

1] Try it with another user account (make one if you need to in Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts)
2] If its only happening in your account:
Inside your hard drive, in the Users folder should be your user home folder (with your account name.) Within that folder is a folder called Library... open that and look for a QuickTime folder within, pull that QuickTime folder out to the Desktop. Do the same for Internet Plug-ins and throw away the ~/Library/Caches/QuickTime folder too. Then, open Preferences and pull out com.apple.quicktime... (all of them) and the QuickTime Preferences file.
Then log out (Apple menu) and back in (or restart) and try again.
3] If its happening for all users then try:
Pull the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plist to the desktop (Your QuickTime Pro registration is in that file so don't throw it away, just move it out, restart and try again.)
4] If there are still problems, try repairing your disk either with the OS X install disc (run Disk Utility from the menu bar) or by rebooting in Singel-User-Mode and running fsck. Then repair permissions with Disk Utility.
Let us know if you still have trouble.

  • I can't view video thumbnails for Quicktime Movies?

I noticed on my Macbook that when I mouse over a Quicktime video file, a play icon appears and I can play the video directly from the thumbnail without having to open up Quicktime Player.  This works both on the desktop and in Finder.  On my iMac, this is not possible.  I've looked through the view options, and I have show icon preview selected.  Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Fixed it! Turned out I just needed to enlarge the icon size in view options.  If the icons are too small, then playing thumbnail videos is not possible.
