No CUDA (quadroFX4800 MAC) on 10.9
After Update to 10.9 i have no CUDA support anymore.
all fine under 10.8.
OSX: 10.9 - fresh installed
Language: all German(Deutsch)
MacPro 4,1
32GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX4800 MAC
CUDA Driver Version: 5.5.28
GPU Driver Version: 8.18.27 310.40.05f01
AECC 12.1 -> no CUDA
AE Premiere CC -> no Render-Hardware
try to: reinstall Cuda Driver
try to: reset Parameter
please help
I have the EXACT same problem on a 3.1 mac pro. Wish someone would adress this ASAP!

Hello everyone,
As suggested by the AE sdk, I start to create my plugin with sample project from the SDK.
However, I can not find an example with CUDA support for mac.
Now I have some troubles to setup an adobe plugin project with CUDA support for mac, as cuda files are compiled by nvcc.
Anybody can tell me where I can find an example to build an AE plugin with CUDA for mac?

Open CL and CUDA? Mac OS X 10.4
Can Mac OS X Lion + run both the CUDA and Open CL?
The Console Log App recognizes both .. but only utilizes CUDA.
Is there an explaination for this?
What is better?if you're using it for Mercury Playback Engine than CUDA will be better.
Open Compute Langauge (OpenCL) is usful for non CUDA cards like ATI. -
I am a professional in the graphics industry: because a lot of money after investing in a MacBook Pro Retina I realize that the drivers do not work on Nvidia Cuda 650M?? It 's possible that a computer should be at the top of the line has these shortcomings? with the ATI has been a disaster with Nvidia is again very very bad. I really hope you put soon have a solution to the serious problem to make your laptop up to the latest technologies! Francesco Rota

i got a wired problem:
I am running PP 5.5 on a macpro with nvidia quadro 4000 with the latest nvidea driver for the quatro and the latest Cuda for Mac driver 4.0
But this didn`t get Cuda working in Premiere. I checked the forum and found an answer to this problem - i needed to instal Cuda driver 4.0.21, which seems to be a beta-version.
Nevertheless i now can choose Cuda to use as GPU accelerating and everything should be fine.
But after restarting the MacPro premiere says no Cuda-Board installed and checking the driver version: it`s 4.0 again.
After reinstalling the driver 4.0.21 Cuda works again.
Does anyone have a clou or the same problem?

JaskinaskaThanks for your second reply. The problem is apparently in the Firefox software, since it occurs with all Mac users even though their personal information is different. In other words, the problem follows the website.
I have been unable to find a systematic way to duplicate the problem. It initially occurred while I was changing user names and passwords. I didn't want to update some of the changes in the "saved passwords". My recollection is that I ignored the "Remember password" prompt. URL's were changed. The "Remember password" prompt no longer appeared, and did not reappear when returning the the web sign-in page.
For those web pages, there is no "Remember password" prompt. However, those pages are not included as exceptions to the "Remember passwords for sites" exceptions. Similarly, the sites do not appear in the saved passwords.
I have read the recommended reading; none seem to apply. For one of the sites, I was able to produce a pull down list for user name. However, the Shift + Delete action produced no change. -
I've been using Mac for just under a year and do take the time time to try and work things out for myself but I am really stuck on CUDA and hope this is the right place to ask for help.
I use Photoshop and Illustrator. When using Photoshop shortly after installed I got a window saying there had been a problem with my graphics card and my Photoshop was now running as 32 not 64. I have a screen shot of the message but don't know how to post it.
I googled and discovered I have two graphics cards on this machine so I downloaded to gfxCardStatus to check the Nvidia card was working. Apparently it was.
I also read somewhere that I needed to upgrade my card. In Mac Forums I was told not to do that as as upgrade would come in with the Mac software updates when needed. So I carried on with the 32bt Photoshop. Months later I still am!
I have just upgraded to Lion and while trying to get used to it I went through all my settings and prefs. I found I have a CUDA application which needs updating but I am not sure how it got there, or even if I should have it. I may have downloaded it when I thought updates where down to me.
Can someone tell me if I should use it and also if installing it, or upgrading it if it is installed is difficult. I am struggling with Lion, Macbook gone very slow on and off, my wireless keeps disconnecting, zooming in Safari and Photoshop suddenly so i dont want to make anything worse.
I have a 17" MacBook Pro running Lion 10.72 but this problem was also on Snow Leopard.
Thank you.Did it fix your issue? As far as CUDA goes, there is no configuring to be done, keep the driver up to date and you should get the performance boost from CUDA without facing the issues. It probably showed up because you modified your driver or an update was done. Keep in mind, Lion (10.7) is fully 64 bit so that could also be why CUDA showed up after you upgraded. Good luck though!

-Update your video card and if you can CUDA
If photoshop is still running 32bit, you may need to uninstall and reinstall it with everything updated.

Premiere Pro/Media Encoder Too Slow with Mavericks
HELP ME, HELP ME, HELP ME!!!
I'm still running Mavericks on a late 2013 iMac-- I've got almost 300GB free on hard drive. Configuration is Mavericks/3.5GHz i7/32GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048MB with CUDA enabled.
It's taking a half an hour to render 5 minute clips and over an hour to export them...sometimes an hour and a half.
I'm about to lose my mind, not to mention a client.
I can upgrade to Yosemite--I figured I'd wait til the bugs were gone--but according to everything I read on the web, that option is no better for creative cloud.
Despite the fact that Mac is a widely installed system in the creative world, it seems like Adobe has put us on the back shelf, and continues to crank out software that we desperately need but that won't run on a professional level on our systems. I tried to research this problem on the internet--all I could find is desperate creatives looking for solutions that just aren't there. [sorry for the rant]

Have you adjusted the permissions of your Adobe folders? Updating OS X can change them randomly: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
NVIDIA drivers are not doing very well lately either with CUDA and Mac OS X Yosemite. For sure, switch both Premiere Pro and AME to OpenCL mode until they fix those drivers.
These issues have more to do with OS X and NVIDIA drivers, nothing to do with Adobe applications—so it's not always our fault when things go wrong.
You should also try deleting your media cache, which you can find in Preferences > Media (click the Browse button). That fixes a lot of issues.
Please also consider trashing preferences and repairing disk permissions.

Premiere Pro CS5.5 Crashing on Launch on Lion
I upgraded to Lion today and have been going through my apps to see what works and what doesn't and unfortunately Premiere Pro CS 5.5 is crashing almost immediately on launch. I have already looked at the Adobe Lion FAQ, and my Java has been updated so it is not that. I also tried re-installing my NVIDIA drivers and CUDA drivers, and I did a re-install of Premiere Pro, but it has had no effect. I have also run permissions and have restarted, but Premiere Pro just won't boot.

0x10d48d000 -I have noticed more about it. It looks like the crash is related to CUDA. I have a NVIDIA Geforce 285. It seems that there is a new NVIDIA driver in Lion, as it is listed as 270.05.05f01, while the most recent NVIDIA drivers on their web site is 256.02.25f01. And checking the CUDA Preferences it lists the current CUDA Driver 4.0.19 but says an Update is Required (though it is the latest CUDA for Mac Driver on NVIDIA's Web site). There are people on the NVIDIA forums that say they are working fine running the QUADRO 4000 and Premiere in Lion.
Since this is the relevant part of the crash log, it looks like a CUDA crash to me:

The only way I was able to get Premiere to launch was getting rid of the 5.5 folder from the Application Support:Adobe:Premiere Pro: folder. The program launched, but would not show any video in the sequence or from any clips, and once I quit the program, when I tried to relaunch I got the same crash again. -
Premiere CC media browser too slow
Hi guys,
I'm having some problems to read RED files on media browser on CC. It's too slow. I ran some quick tests here. In CS6, create a new project and chose a drive in media browser. It read the files in 21 seconds. In CC, create a new project and chose the same drive in media browser. It read the files in 1 minute and 40 seconds. I really enjoy editing in CC but this issue is killing me. Does anyone have a clue?

It's taking a half an hour to render 5 minute clips and over an hour to export them...sometimes an hour and a half.
Can you post a screenshot of your export settings dialog box?
...it seems like Adobe has put us on the back shelf, and continues to crank out software that we desperately need but that won't run on a professional level on our systems.
Have you adjusted the permissions of your Adobe folders? Updating OS X can change them randomly: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
NVIDIA drivers are not doing very well lately either with CUDA and Mac OS X Yosemite. For sure, switch both Premiere Pro and AME to OpenCL mode until they fix those drivers.
These issues have more to do with OS X and NVIDIA drivers, nothing to do with Adobe applications—so it's not always our fault when things go wrong.
You should also try deleting your media cache, which you can find in Preferences > Media (click the Browse button). That fixes a lot of issues.
Please also consider trashing preferences and repairing disk permissions.

The 8800GT in my Mac Pro recently died (a second time; I baked it back into life previously), and I decided to replace it with a GTX 285.
I installed the card, and I can tell it's running, because it's a heck of a lot noisier than the 8800. But there's no video. I know that at one point, you had to install the nVidia drivers before you installed the GTX, but this wasn't an option for me. So I have three questions:
1) Do nVidia's drivers still need to be installed manually? Or would these have been included with Lion?
2) If they do need to be installed manually, is there any way to do this without booting up the machine (which is impossible, since, no video). For example, I put the Mac Pro into target disk mode and installed the drivers onto my Mac Pro boot drive via my Macbook Pro, but I don't know if this actually does anything.
3) Should I be able to get any video at all, regardless of the state of my drivers or card? The select startup disk screen for example, does that require a GPU? Because I can literally see nothing.

Scrubbing through footage is terribly slow!!!???
Ive just recently bought the adobe cloud, and was wanting to switch from FCP to premiere cs6. But...... first thing ive notices is how terribly slow it is scrubbing through footage on the timeline. Playback is fine, but scrubbing through footage and trying to find an inpoint is painful. Also, one of the biggest draw cards was the ability to edit native files from the Canon 5D mk2. This is even worse! Once again, playback is fine, but scrubbing through the timeline is just terrible. I didn't have this problem in FCP... is there something i'm doing wrong?
The short answer: spend hundreds or over a thousand dollars on one of the few outdated Nvidia cards with CUDA that work in a Mac.
The long answer: ditch the Mac and assemble a PC with top of the line components. I was a Mac devotee until I realized that I could have a computer faster than any Mac if I bought high quality components and put it together myself. You don't need to have a degree in computer science, just some knowledge that you can easily acquire online. The three Macs I had all had different problems and were no better than brand PCs that sold for about 3/4s of the price. They were of course better than the piece of junk Dells or Compaqs that sold at Walmart for $400, or even the $1,200 models, but I got fed up with paying top dollar for a product that didn't deserve it.
The graphics and video industry has this very erroneous notion that if you want to do anything serious in those fields you need a Mac. At one point many years ago that was true, but it hasn't been for several years now. Apple is making the bulk of their money with the iPhones, iPads and iEverything else but Mac towers, so that line has been almost abandoned completely. The exterior is still a design from 2002, and the interior from 2010. The "renewed" 2012 models are a joke, a tiny speed bump and you have to pay $5,000 if you want one that is barely decent. Even worse, even though in recent years Adobe Premiere and many plugins started making extensive use of CUDA technology, Mac Pros still come with only choices of outdated Radeon cards, which are only good for games and maybe some stuff in After Effects but that's it. If you want any sort of an Nvidia card in a Mac, you have to spend thousands on one of the few Quadros that are compatible with Macs, all of them outdated cards, unless you download a hacked driver to make any Nvidia card work, but I wouldn't trust my editing workstation to a hacked driver.
On the PC side, you have several more choices. You can put together a system that will be equal or faster or to any MacPro. To give you an idea, my current system, which has an Intel i7 3930k CPU (six cores at 3.2 GHz but that go up to 4 Ghz each with Turbo), 32 GB of Corsair RAM, and an Nvidia GTX570 graphics card, gives me a Cinebench R11.5 score of 52.91 fps for Open GL and 11.28 pts for CPU render. I was just reading a forum in which a guy that ran the same version of Cinebench on his MacPro with the dual 2.40 Ghz 6 core CPUs(that's 12 physical cores) and what I assume is the stock Radeon graphics card gets 30.75 fps OpenGL and 12.5 CPU. The MacPro may be marginally faster for CPU render than my machine, but much slower for GPU, which is almost as important these days. And checking the current prices at the Apple store, he paid at least $3,800 for that computer, while I paid less than $2,000 for mine.
Five years ago I started assembling my computers, and they have been the fastest and most reliable computers I've ever had. Better than any Mac or brand PC I've ever had, and with the advantage that every two or three years I can upgrade it and still use some components, instead of having to buy a whole new computer like you would do with a Mac.
The only downside to self assembled PCs currently is that as long as Microsoft keeps selling Windows 7 Pro, you're fine, but if they stop and you have to install that abomination of technology that is Windows 8, then the choice is not so clear. But, Windows XP was released in 2001 and millions of computers around the world still use it just fine, so I don't see MS ending sales of Windows 7 anytime soon, because Windows 8 is a toy for tablets, but as a professional desktop OS is a joke, and I'm sure that the hundreds of articles and angry forum posts online about it must have reached them. But at least for now, the choice is very clear, stay away from Apple and go with self assembled PCs, and if you don't know how to assemble one, there are small businesses that do it for you. Believe me, anybody who has the intelligence to edit video can assemble a PC, it's no more complicated than it was to assemble a Lego kit when you were 7. -

If your card has more then 1 GB of VRAM and still cannot change Mercury Playback engine in premier pro CC.
Make sure the premier pro is up to date, latest version is 7.2.1
Please create a new user account and check if it is working in that account .
If it is still not working Please follow the below mentioned steps and check
please uninstall cuda from your system and reinstall Latest CUDA driver.

Nvidia quadro 4000 for mac and os 10.6.8 on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) Cuda don't work

We bought an Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac for use RayTrace on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) with our Mac Pro 5.1 on OS 10.6.8.
And the Mac lost the Cuda driver when we restart it.
We use the Nvidia driver 256.02.25f01 for Mac Os 10.6.8 and we made test on different Cuda driver (4.1.25, 4.2.10, 5.0.37 and 5.0.47).
When we install Cuda driver and start directly After Effects 11.0.2 it’s works (after effects see the GPU processor).
But when we restart the Mac and try to launch After Effects, AE doesn’t see GPU processor and ask to install Cuda driver 4.0 or later.
Do you know this problem ?

I'm having the exact same problem on 10.6.8 with a brand new Quadro 4000. My CUDA preferences are up to date, but After Effects CS6 is not seeing the card.
GPUSniffer gives me some really weird results, which I've included. Of particular note there is a repeated "just leaking" message, an "invalid drawable" and "Did not find any devices that support GPU computation."
Anyone have a fix for this? We just dropped a lot of money on this card so I could squeeze some more life out of this workstation (Mac Pro 4,1 dual quad 2.66 with 12GB RAM).

How to: Enable CUDA GPU Support for "Unsupported Cards" in CS6 (same process as in CS5+) :) for MAC
Hi all, I previously was involved in some discussion regarding GPU acceleration with CUDA in Premier Pro CS5 using an 'Unsupported card' with my Macbook Pro... I would like to show you this still works and will be here to show the process for anyone, and will post a video of the whole thing as a step-by-step probably tomorrow (its quite late where i am just now) but I'll give you a quick run through just now... Proof at bottom of page...
Ps. This only applies to Nvidia card Macs.. I have no ATI card mac to try this out as OpenCL etc but i would imagine it would be a similar process...
Step 1... Install Cuda drivers for your Mac (im using 4.2.7) here http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html
Step 2... Install GfxCardStatus and force your graphics (if using a laptop) to discrete card only http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus

Step 4... Using the name of your card from the above output, i have it underlined, in my case a GeForce GT 330M, copy this exact name as we will now add it to the list of supported cards...
Step 5... Using terminal still, again assuming default install directories, copy and paste then hit enter on the following...
sudo nano /Applications/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6.app/Contents/cuda_supported_cards.txt
You will then be asked for your computer password, type it and hit enter, it will not be shown as you type FYI... You will then see the default supported cards, add your card by pasting the name you have as in Step 4, then use ctrl+x to escape, type Y to save and hit enter a couple of times to get out...
You should now be able to run Premier Pro CS6 using the CUDA GPU option you can select in Renderer as you start a new project!!
Any questions i will try to answer them as soon as possible, and as i said i'll screen capture and record a video tutorial as i know that would be of help to some of you out there.. Some proof, here is a pic...

I inserted the geforce gt 330m on the after effect card list, but when i enable ray traced 3d the text in the comp disappear!

No. Open the App Store on one computer running Snow Leopard. Purchase and download Lion. On the other computer open the App Store, log on using the same Apple ID, re-download Lion at no extra charge.
