No cursor in address bar after opening new tab

Hi,
after installing FF 29.0.1, when I open a new tab the cursor isn't focused on the address bar, or anything else for that matter.
If I run FF in safe mode it works and the focus is on the address bar. If I disable all my extensions manually and start FF in normal mode it doesn't work.
I looked at that thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972359 already, but that didn't help much.
What can I do to fix this?
Cheers

Thanks for answering.
Just tried it now and unfortunately it didn't help. Disabled both, but still no cursor in the address bar after opening a new tab.
I won't be around my computer for a few days, so it'll take me some time to respond.

  • No cursor in address bar after opening a new tab on full screen mode

    Hello all!
When opening a new tab in full screen mode, I noticed that the cursor dissappears from the address bar. Since I cannot write the address without clicking the bar, I think this is a very annoying issue...
Does anyone have the same problem?
    Thank you.

Try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • How to disable "about:newtab" text in address bar of each new tab Firefox 13

Many of us have habit of opening a new tab & start writing web address/search query in address bar
with Firefox 13 if I open new tab and just try to search firefox
    following appears in address bar
    about:newtabfirefox
(about:newtab is already written in new tab addressbar)

    Thanks
Although "about:blank" is present in address bar but it is selected, if I type anything it get over-righted - :)
please make "about:newtab" selected as "about:blank" in newer versions of Firefox

  • Hit enter in url bar and opens new tab automatically

is it possible, that when i hit enter in the address bar, it must automatically open up a new tab with that adress, just like AM browser has?

you can open tab easily with CTRL+T
you can select URL and Click it with + CTRL,it will autometically open with a new tab

  • How to disable "Double Click on Tab Bar to Open New Tab" feature?

Since I upgraded to FF3 I've noticed this very annoying feature with tabs. If you double-click the 2-3 pixel wide bar just beneath tabs, it opens a new empty tab and sets the focus to that new tab (Which means I then have to go close that tab before going back to the tab I originally wanted). I happen to do this a lot by mistake (I go to click on a tab, but haven't clicked high enough, and of course, it doesn't change to the tab, so I unconsciously click again, which activates a new tab). I never open new empty tabs (alt-enter + middle click), and I have tabs to load in the background (i.e. to not *steal* the focus), so everything about this feature serves as an annoyance to me. Is there anyway to disable this "feature" (Either by disabling it, or making the width of the bar 0. I don't care either way)?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I upgraded to FF3

You can hold down the mouse button on a scroll button a bit longer to initiate scrolling multiple tabs.<br />
Otherwise you need to wait longer between the clicks on the scroll button.<br />
If you click twice on a tab bar scroll button too fast then you perform a 'page up' or 'page down' and the tabs scroll a tab bar width like you noticed.
I'm not sure what you mean with new feature because this is the behavior in Firefox 3.6.x as well.

  • Have recently updated firefox. Previously, opening a new tab, cursor would be in google's search field, as google was my home page; now when I open new tab, cursor appears in url bar; this is bugging me a lot. How do I fix this setting?

cursor in URL bar when opening new tab; setting for this?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When opening a new window, it automatically loads last pop-up (?) content and I am unable to type in address bar or open a new tab in the new window.

I don't know if they're technically pop-up windows (for example, if you do a search on kayak.com, it will automatically open a new priceline.com window with the results of the search), but this happens with pop-up blocker on or off. Other examples are a small info window from a financial or .edu site that opens up saying a session is about to expire, or answering an FAQ (with the exception of the priceline example, these windows don't have an address bar or display a URL). Anyway, after these windows are closed, if I try to open a new window, it will automatically load the content of that "pop-up". Whenever it does this, I am unable to type in the address bar or open a new tab in that window.
How do I fix this? All I want is to open a new window that's blank, not load prior content.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.'''
    '''(Mac: Open the "Applications" folder)'''
Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't
    know what they are.

  • When ever I customize the toolbar the open new tab sign that is the + sign near the lastly opened tab in the tab bar disappears and it remains so even after restarting Firefox.

When ever I customize the toolbar, the open new tab sign that is the + sign near the lastly opened tab in the tab bar disappears and it remains so even after restarting Firefox. This happens only after updating to the new version 4.0.1 it never happened in the older versions 3.x.xx- checked it thrice. Thought it could be a bug and i didn't know where to report also don't have time and patience to search for the appropriate page so i'm reporting here for improving my favorite browser.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible to the left of it.<br />

  • When opening new tab, how to make me able to type in the adress bar directly without clicking on it? -- (about:config reset and add-on doesn't work)

    Hi all,
Need a help relating New Tab on Mozilla.
I want to be able to directly type in the address bar everytime I open a new tab in Mozilla, without clicking anything. To be clearer, it means that everytime I open the new tab, the blinking cursor is already on the address bar.
What's happening right now is everytime I open new tab, the cursor is not placed anywhere--not on the search bar on the page, not on the address bar. I should put the cursor somewhere to do something.
I tried using the about:config reset (1) and installing custom new tab (2), but both do not work.
When I tried the about:config reset the Reset button is not highlighted (I assume it means it's default already), and the Custom New Tab doesn't yield in different result.
What confuse me is 2 days ago my Mozilla works just fine. Everytime I opened a new tab, the blinking cursor was on the address bar and I was able to type directly.
Thank you and appreciate the help!!
    Note:
    (1) about:config reset:
    - Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
    - To bypass the warning, press the big button labeled "I'll be careful, I promise!".
    - In the search box, paste browser.newtab.url
    - In the search results, right-click browser.newtab.url and choose Reset.
    (2) Custom Add On reset:
    - Install Custom New Tab. = https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/
    - Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    - Next to Custom New Tab, click the Options button.
    - Set whatever page you want to open in each new tab (about:newtab is the default; about:home is the default home page), and make sure "Place focus in URL bar" is not checked.

ok, as a follow up i'd recommend disabling half of the addons & restarting the browser - if the problem continues disable the other half & continue until you've narrowed it down to the culprit...
    </blockquote>
    Hi Philipp,
I read the link you copied on the first post and also tried your recommendation above. None seem to work. Even if I disable all add-ons, the problem still persists.
One other info, this problem seem to appear after I installed several program yesterday. These programs apparently installed other programs that set my homepage and main search engine to a particular website. But I installed all of these programs already. Would that be a cause of the problem?
    Thanks.

  • Am unable to click and open new tabs using the new tab button after downloading the newest version of firefox?

have recently downloaded the newest version of firefox. after installing i am happy to say i am pleased with the new look and features etc though for some reason i am unable to open new tabs as before.
i now have to right click on bookmarks or favorites and select open in a new tab to do so, rather than simply clicking on the new tab button..

If the problem turns out to be the "New Tabs at the End" extension, there actually is an internal setting for this that you could use instead.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''tabs''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent''' preference to switch it from true to false. That's it.

  • Can't open new tabs with double left click on tab bar in FF29.0.1?

I've always enjoyed how tabs work in FF, mainly with them being on the bottom (which I had to find a work-around for by making the userChrome.css file - the "about:config" modification no longer works) and also being able to double left click on the tab bar to create new tabs.
With the most recent update, double left clicking on the tab bar no longer has a function, and to create new tabs, I must now middle click. It's not a big deal really, but is there a way to change this back?
I searched through some options on the "about:config" page, searched "tab" and found an option there: "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" that seemed promising. I changed the value to "False" but it didn't change anything - in fact, middle clicking still creates new tabs.
I tried adding a modified function with "leftclick" in it, just to see if it might do anything but, nothing.
Any other suggestions for restoring the double left click function to create new tabs? Thanks!

    ''Hydrilus wrote:''
    browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick
If set to false, middle-clicking <u>links on web pages</u> opens them in a new window. It probably also affects bookmarks, history entries, and items in the address bar drop-down menu.

You need an add-on. Here are two I know about:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer]. In the add-on's option window, click the Special tab and check "Tabs toolbar: double click opens a new tab"
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ Tab Mix Plus]. In the add-on's option window, click the Mouse icon, then the Mouse Clicking tab, then the Double-click tab below that. • Is there any way to restore the 'Open New Tab' option in the tab bar drop-down menu?

After years of using tabbed browsing in Firefox, I've long-since gotten used to right-clicking the tab bar, and selecting the top menu item 'Open New Tab'. So much so that it has become reflexive. Now with v4, when I perform the same action, it now just reloads the current page. Is there ANY way to restore the option to the pull-down menu? I don't wanna have to move my pointer all the way to the other side of the screen just to open a new tab... (T_T)

Hello, I suffered from a similar problem with the new search bar type. I've found that you can go into '''about:config''', then search for '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons''' boolean and toggle that. This should restore the old functionality. (You might need to restart your browser)
Note that, like always, edit your '''about:config''' at your own risk.
