No default browser configuration

i deleted the service books from my phone because of a possible corrupt file. i did that because my internet was not working and read about it on the blackberry support page. under the browser setting in advanced options the is no default browser configured

You need the service books to be resent to your BlackBerry. You have two options; one is you can go to your Carrier's BlackBerry Internet Service website and login. There is an option there to send the service books. Another option is you can call you carrier and ask them to send the service books again.
Who is you carrier?

• "No default browser configured"

When I press F1 in VC++ 2010 Express to get an explanation about a Win32 function from MSDN, a message box pops up saying "No default browser configured on this machine. Help cannot be displayed until a default browser is installed/configured."
How can I configure a default browser? What kind of file does VC++ want me to specify a default browser to open? I've installed Opera on my computer, as well as IE.

Hi xiaokaoy,
Based on your issue, as far as I know that the F1 function is used to open the MSDN help page for the object on which the cursor lies in VS IDE. So when your cursor is on Win32 function , it will launch the corresponding MSDN page in web browser.
As you said the you get the error: "No default browser configured", I suggest you could try to make the IE as default browser by referring the following document check this issue.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/internet-explorer/make-ie-default-browser#ie=ie-11
If the above suggestion still could not help you, please you
reset your VS setting file by going to the Tools->Impoat and Export the settings... and then check this issue.
Or maybe you will need to repair or re-install the VC++ 2010 express and then check this issue again.

• 8120 Default browser settings

I have a Blackberry 8120 the has Hotspot set as the default browser configuration, how do I change this so that I can use the browser to go on the net using the network instead of WiFi?
(When I select to change it, there is no other option like on my 8520.)
I must also metion that this was working before.
Any urgent assistance would be appreciated.

Hey riaanck,
Have you made and changes to your service plan ? This could also be a service book issue, you may want to clear the service book database as shown here http://bbry.lv/buj0rQ and then resend the service books. http://bbry.lv/e6EyiQ

• How to disable updates and hide set as default browser option in firefox 31.0 for many users,like changing the setttings in any file

Hi,
I am trying to disable updates, set as default browser option and import settings from other browers permanently for many users for firefox 31.0.
can you please help me with that. I know settings are going to prefs.js file in user profile. How can make this permanent for many users.

Hi gaurav3012,
Permanent change would be locking preferences: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
However importing many users profiles to different computers may require a new profile for each user.
Currently there is an option to import bookmarks from other browsers, but not preferences.
Update preferences can be read about here: [[Configuration Options for Updates]]
Firefox ESR is also another version of Firefox that is meant for Enterprise environments [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/] that mostly has their support on their mailing list.

• Is it possible to make Safari the default browser on my iPhone?

I'm wondering if there's a way I can configure my iPhone such that when I open a hyperlink in a downloaded app, it goes to Safari rather than the in-app browser. I want Safari to be the default browser for all apps (both native and third-party). How can this be done?

It's a matter of the app. Some apps give you the option to open the link in Safari or in app browser. iFooty is one of them.

• I use Firefox as my default browser but, on any site, keep getting some words underlined in green from which an ad pops up. Really peeing me off! Doesn't happen on IE or Chrome. How can I stop this?

I use Firefox as my default browser but, on any site, keep getting some words underlined in green from which an ad pops up. Really peeing me off! Doesn't happen on IE or Chrome. How can I stop this?

From what you have described, I don't think you are ever going to pick that up as malware at all. But I did look at the site you mentioned in Google Chrome, and in IE9. First thought was maybe Chrome suppresses it, but that would be contrary to trying to convince you that their AdSense or IntelliTXT is "helping" you.
What I did find in Chrome was
"Google Chrome's connection attempt to ad-apac.doubleclick.net was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured."
Since I don't have ad blockers in Chrome or IE, that tells me that my hosts file is doing its job, you can draw you own conclusions. There is something similar displayed in IE, but I can't read what was there because the font-size was too big. for the space. In Firefox with "Adblock Plus" extension it is all wiped out. The hosts file works across the entire system but is directed at blocking malware sites more than advertising. "Adblock Plus" is very good at blocking ads and can do its blocking with more generic filters, and can block a lot of malware from coming in but it can't block at the system level that a hosts file can.
In IE although I can only see "It appea" because the font is too large and text does not wrap it does actually say "It appears you are connected to the Internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet."
I would certainly suggest installing "Adblock Plus" extension and the "Easylist (USA)" filter subscription -- links are in the links previously provided, and installing the hosts file as well also in the links.
It takes a bit more work to install and maintain a hosts file but the directions should be clear enough.

• I'm new at this. I don't understand what is meant by making Firefox my "default browser." I use gmail and I have to log in, everytime I want to use mail?

I don't even know if there is any interaction between Firefox and gmail. I just know it's a pain every time I want to use mail, I have to log in. I don't have to log in with Internet Explorer. My purpose here is to take advantage of Firefox not being infected with SPAM etc. Where and how do I set Firefox as my default browser, and what are the other advantages? Keep it simple, guys, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

The "default browser" is the one that Windows will use to open links from other applications, or desktop shortcuts. Whether a browser is designated as the default doesn't affect how web pages work ''inside'' the browser.
Sites generally recognize that you're still logged in by setting a cookie. When you first install Firefox, it is configured to accept and retain these cookies. However, there are many ways for cookies to get cleared, including:
* Settings on the Privacy tab of the Options dialog such as whether to accept cookies and how long they are kept - [[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track]]
* Optional clearing of history at shutdown (although the feature is called clearing history, there are some 10 or more categories of data you can individually choose to clear or keep)
* Using the private browsing feature - cookies last only as long as the private session
* Privacy-related add-ons that change how cookies are managed -- your system data doesn't show any of these
* External security, privacy or system cleaning software
In your case, your "More System Details" shows that you have Firefox set to start automatically in private browsing mode. In this configuration, Firefox doesn't keep any cookies between sessions, so as far as websites are concerned, the next time you visit you're a stranger. One way this could have been set is if you or someone else with access to your computer went into the Privacy Options and set Firefox to "Never remember history".
You'll probably need to turn off automatic private browsing, unless you can find an add-on to store cookies you want to store between private sessions.

• Stagewebview is not using the default browser?

Hello community,
We encounter an issue regarding the userAgent we get with Javascript when our page is viewed from an Android App running Air and using the Stagewebview.
We noticed that despite the default browser set as Google Chrome (Webkit v.537), we identify that app using Webkit v.534.
After a lot of trouble shooting, it seems that there is a difference between "native" browser and "default" browser.
Is that correct?
If so, the question is: Is there a way to make Stagewebview use the user selected browser/engine ?
Our website needs to display text vertically (japanese text) and the form elements are not well recognized in the 534 version browser, but work perfectly in the last version of Chrome we can get running on those devices.
(We target Android 4.2+ users)
Any input will be appreciated.
Cedric Simon

Hello ArkadiuszOkoń,
I downloaded the 4.4W sdk and replaced the file as proposed, but I don't notice any change.
On Desktop, I can see that Air webkit 533 is used. did my compile really took the new file into configuration?
I'm using FlashDevelop, are there settings to change in the bat fie or in the manifest?
As you proposed about the <uses-sdk> settings, some are already setup and I didn' change them, should I higher the minSdkVersion for example?
Here is the current section:
<android>
<manifestAdditions><![CDATA[<manifest android:installLocation="auto">
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-feature android:required="true" android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch" />
</manifest>]]></manifestAdditions>
</android>
Also, Jan-F-W, thank you for your proposal,
I should explain something else:
The app is using "stagewebviewbridge" package that one can find here : stagewebviewbridge - Extend Adobe AIR StageWebView ( Desktop, iOS, Android ) - Google Project Hosting
We do not have access to the source code of that app, but we have to investigate the case and propose a solution otherwise the development company in charge will not make a single move.
So I created a sample application that loads a page on my machine and that displays the userAgent to check what engine is running.
(in that case, I can use a StageWebView directly if I want)
I can see that depending on the useNative boolean parameter of StageWebView I get a different userAgent, which is great.
BUT, I had a doubt on mobile, as stated by Adobe Documentation: This parameter is ignored on mobile.
In doubt, I checked on the mobile device, and in both base, the device "native" browser is used, not the Chrome set as "default".
Maybe my tests are not accurate enough? I'm not a flash developer, so I feel a bit lost there.
Thank you for your guidance.

• Getting the default browser+MIME data

I want to ask : how to get the current system default browser by java code at runtime (IE,firefox,...)? and how to get its specific version ? also how to get the supported MIME type of that browser also by java code?
this is intended to be part of a network agent by java.
thanks

Hi
You can use a GPO:
1. Open the Start menu, go into the "Administrative Tools" folder and select "Group Policy Management."
2. Right-click on your primary Group Policy Object from the list on the left side of the window and choose the "Edit" option. This will launch the Group Policy Object Editor tool.
3. Open the "User Configuration" and "Windows Settings" folders.
4. Right-click on the entry labeled "Internet Explorer Maintenance" and select "Preference Mode."
5. Double-click on the "Programs (Preference Mode)" icon to view the additional Internet Explorer settings.
6. Click on the radio button next to "Import the Current Program Settings" and then press "Modify Settings."
7. Click on the "Make Default" button in the "Default web browser" section of the window.
8. Press "OK" twice to save the Group Policy Object settings. Now Internet Explorer will automatically be the default browser for all computers on the local network.

• Office opens hyperlinks first in IE, then in default browser

Hello!
If you have some links saved, for example, in Excel, when you try to follow it, Office first sends the GET-request with IE User-Agent and user's cookies from IE , and only then default browser opens it and sends the same request.
You can check it with some app, like Fiddler.
It causes rare but unpleasant effects while working with links in Excel.
Could someone explain the sense of this first request with IE User-Agent?
Tank you, guys!

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
When you click a hyperlink in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel in your case), just like what you have detected, it actually runs Microsoft Office Protocol Discovery first to determine if the URL works.
The Office library will make an HTTP HEAD request to the web server for the opening URL. This request is sent with a Windows/Internet Explorer component (it was identified as User Agent Microsoft Office Existence Discovery).
The purpose of the HEAD request is to check that the content exists at the URL location as a document, and not simply as a tempoary resource streamed down for a read-only session.

• Firefox 4 takes a long time to startup at this point i am thinking about going back to internet explorer as my default browser. what is going on??

firefox 4 takes a long time to startup at this point i am thinking about going back to internet explorer as my default browser. what is going on??

Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins and disable "'''My Web Search'''". This is adware which runs in the background and spends its time trawling the web searching for ads to feed you.
Also, something shows in your system details with the number '''2,5,3,1 '''. Can you tell me what that is please? It's located in the same Plugins menu.
Similarly, I see three versions of Veetle. Disable the older ones if you don't need them.
On the security side, your Flash player is out of date and exposes your system to exploits. See: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-12.html (Update link near the foot of the page).
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

• [SOLVED] LXDE / Evolution: setting default browser?

Hello,
Recently I switched to LXDE coming from Gnome, and clicking an URL in an email doesn't open my browser anymore.
I searched gconf-editor to set my default browser app, and found some references to epiphany (that I changed to firefox), but that doesn't seem to have fixed it.
Anyone?

Army wrote:I think this has to be set up in your email program! I use claws-mail and there is an option for this. I think evolution is too much integrated into gnome to be able to do such a setting in the program itself, maybe it looks into Gnome's defaults, which you cannot set without the configuration tools of gnome.
My recommendations:
Use another mail programm, i.e. claws-mail, which I like pretty much.
Install Gnome (minimal installation), do the settings and uninstall it afterwards or let it on the machine, if it doesn't disturb you.
Yes, it looks like I should switch to another emailprogram, but at the moment I'm tied with hands and feet to evolution, since I'm using webcalendars and LDAP-contacts. Thunderbird + lightning is coming along nicely, but it cannot write to LDAP and claws-mail has calendar-support, but it is slow and the GUI to it is very arcane.
The gnome-settings are stored IIRC in gconf, and I cannot find the right entries
Zl.
/EDIT: thought about it and did a new search in gconf-editor and found out that I still had some references to a test-setup for firefox 3.0beta. This thread can be closed as it is solved. THX for your answers!

• Connecting to a website with default browser

Hi I am kind of new to Java, anyway I have written an application that displays information from a database in a table. I wanted to be able to right click on a particular entry and then connect to a website based on the key field. Does anyone know how to start the the users default browser, from within my application (eg netscape) and then connect to the specified site
Cheers

You might want to take a look at BrowserLauncher. It is a much better method than runtime.exec.
I dont have the link to the site with me, but search at Google for BrowserLauncher, you should get the link.
I think it is also registered at sourceforge.

• How do you invoke the default browser for Unix/OSX

Does anyone know how to programmatically display the contents of a URL in the default browser for a Unix system? I found a javaworld article on doing this using Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd). The article gives the cmd string for invoking the default browser in Windows, and for invoking the Netscape browser in Unix.
This can easily be extended to invoke any known browser executable in a known path on a Unix system; but I'd like to invoke the default browser without knowing what or where it is. I'm specifically targetting Mac/OSX, but any Unix solution is worth trying.
Is there a Unix command for launching the default browser to display the contents of a given URL? Or is there an alternative approach, rather than invoking Runtime.exec()?
-Mark

After extensive google searching, I came across a partial solution. This code detects the default browser on a Mac, and provides an elegant solution for trying standard browsers in turn for other Unix systems. I tested it on WIndows XP and Mac OSX 3.9, and it detected the default browser each time. A suped up version of this tool is available as a SourceForge project. You can find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/browserlaunch2/
Here's the simplified code:
// Bare Bones Browser Launch //
//  Version 1.5                                        //
//  December 10, 2005                                  //

//  Example Usage:                                     //
//     String url = "http://www.centerkey.com/";       //
//     BareBonesBrowserLaunch.openURL(url);            //
// Public Domain Software -- Free to Use as You Like //
import java.lang.reflect.Method;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class BareBonesBrowserLaunch {
private static final String errMsg = "Error attempting to launch web browser";
public static void openURL(String url) {
String osName = System.getProperty("os.name");
try {
if (osName.startsWith("Mac OS")) {
Class fileMgr = Class.forName("com.apple.eio.FileManager");
Method openURL = fileMgr.getDeclaredMethod("openURL",
new Class[] {String.class});
openURL.invoke(null, new Object[] {url});
else if (osName.startsWith("Windows"))
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " + url);
else { //assume Unix or Linux
String[] browsers = {
"firefox", "opera", "konqueror", "epiphany", "mozilla", "netscape" };
String browser = null;
for (int count = 0; count < browsers.length && browser == null; count++)
if (Runtime.getRuntime().exec(
new String[] {"which", browsers[count]}).waitFor() == 0)
browser = browsers[count];
if (browser == null)
throw new Exception("Could not find web browser");

• If Firefox is set as the default browser, and any application attempts to open a new window, this fails and I get the error "Firefox is already running..."

Here is what I am running:
Microsoft Windows 7, Service Pack 1, Fully updated to 4/10/2012
Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
I am a user with administrator rights
UAS is disabled.
To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.
Test Cases:
All cases:
Firefox is selected as the default browser for windows 7
Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.
