No default search folders in Outlook 2010

Hi there,
I joined a new company and we use Exchange 2010 SP3 UR6 with Outlook 2010. All users are using Online-Mode, nothing cached. Nobody has the default search folders. I ran outlook with /cleanfinders /resetfolders, nothing.
It's not vital of course, but I'm still wondering how that can be. New and old mailboxes only have the "root" Search Folder. Left click on it does nothing (is this normal? From my memory I don't think so), right click offers to create a new one...
Cheers

Hi,
Your administrator can specify whether to create the standard default Search Folders when Outlook starts for the first time by using group policy. See:
Please contact your administrator and confirm if he has applied the policy. For your reference:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179004(v=office.12).aspx
Note: This article is for Outlook 2007, it also applies to Outlook 2010.
-> Left click on it does nothing (is this normal? From my memory I don't think so), right click offers to create a new one...
This is the default behavior, we need to use right click > New Search Folder to create new search folders.
Hope this helps.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

Thank you for the information, that is what I wanted to know. Curiously I did not find such group policy...

Is it possible to create custom search folders for Outlook 2010 from Exchange 2010?

    Hi Anil Chauhan,
Based on my knowledge, it is possible to create search folder using EWS.
About how to create search folder using EWS, I recommend you ask in Exchange Development forum which is staffed by more experts specializing in this kind of problems. You can get better help there. Thanks for understanding.

  • Custom search folders in Outlook 2010

    Hello,
I am running Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2010. Latest Service Packs. I want to narrow my search to the following:
Find all emails received that does not contain *@abc.com"
When i run this search it simply does not work
    Help please
    Thanks,
    alexis

    This is the problem:
Under "Define more Criteria" under "All Mail Field"s I choose "From"
Under Condition: "Doesn't Contain" Value @abc.com
That From field uses the Display Name, not the underlying email address. If you want to hide mail from Debbie ([email protected]), you need to use Debbie as the value, not @domain.com.

  • Searching contacts in Outlook 2010 results do not include Public Folders

When searching for contacts in Outlook 2010, connected to Exchange 2010, Public folders are excluded under "All Contact Items", however if changed to "Current Folder" in the scope of the ribbon bar, results are there instantly.
Operating Outlook in Cached mode with the download public folder favorites option checked.
I am not able to locate an option so that the public folders are searched at the same time contacts are searched.  Can you help?

Public folder and your "current folder" is located in different folders against different mailboxs.
Search in "Current folder" will only return the result of contacts in current folder, but search in Seach > Options > Search Folders > "Find Public folders" will get the result of contacts in All public folders by default.
If you want to get the both of public folders and the specify contacts folders, please use Advanced Find and browse the certain folder.

  • How to use Search Folders in Outlook for shared mailboxes

    Hello
We use Otlook 2010/2013 with MS Exchange 2010. In outlook there is "Serarch folder" with subfolders Large e-mail, Unreaded mails.... User can create own subfolders with rules.
Users have attahet to outlook shared mailboxex for example Import, Export....
For these mailboxes you cannot use "Search Folders" - outlook can use it only for your personal mailbox.
To use "Serach folders" for shared mailbox I have to create new e-mail profile in Windows. User has to run outlook using these new profile "import". Now he is directly connected with shared mailbox.
But users want to use "Search folders" when they are on own outlook profile with shared mailboxes attahecd to their profiles.
Is it posible to do it? Or use some third-party
    product?

  • Default account setting in Outlook 2010 does not work when composing new messages?

    Hello,
I am currently using Outlook 2010 (not beta). I have two accounts, a google imap account and a pop3 account.  I have designated my IMAP account as my default account.  As I understand it, this means that when I create a new email,
it should default to being sent from my IMAP account.  However, whenever I create a new email, it defaults to the account which I am currently viewing in Outlook.  In other words, if I am currently viewing the pop3 inbox, when I compose an email,
it will default send from that account.  Conversely, when I compose an email while viewing the IMAP inbox, it will default send from that account.
Any ideas as to what is going on?  This is rather frustrating because I only rarely send with my pop3 account--only when replying/forwarding email received with that account or other unique situations.  Is there a way to make Outlook be true to
sending from the default account, without doing something drastic like disabling the secondary account?
    Thanks in advance.

The behaviour itself may be considered a feature by Microsoft, though I disagree, but the fact that one thinks one is specifying a "default" account that is not then used as the default in all cases is clearly a bug.
It is astonishing to me that in the plethora of options, advanced options and advanced advanced options there is not a checkbox to enable this new behaviour with the default being unchecked.

  • Error synchronizing folders in Outlook 2010

I have an IMAP account set up on Outlook 2010 using Windows Vista and every so often (not all the time), I get the following message:
Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for [email protected]' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for [email protected] Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your
server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I thought it may be my McAfee anti-virus, but I disabled the firewall and continued to get the message. This error doesn't always pop up and the folders do sync most of the time. It's only sometimes I get this error. Any idea what is the cause and how
    to resolve? Thanks.

I know that you disable the McAfee anti-virus but no avail. Have you also turn off the email integration(scanning) option? If not, please try it.
Some people reported that they resolved it after uninstalling McAfee and then re-install it without the email integration(scanning) option.

  • Deploy Default Font Settings with Outlook 2010 SP2

    Hi team
Until Office 2010 SP1 it was possible to deploy a registry key to set the default fonts in Outlook. This was the following key:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\MailSettings\...
This keys remained after a user logged in the first time to a computer resp. after the user started Outlook the first time.
Now with installed SP2, this keys are deleted after the first start of Outlook and a  REG_EXPAND_SZ string called "Template" is created.
Is this issue known and whats the solution to deploy default fonts in Outlook 2010 SP2.
    Regards,
    Stephen

    Hi,
Please add the registry key manually after the user logged in the first time, does this registry key still takes effect then? If yes, try to deploy this registry key via OCT to check the result.
For this kind of issue, one method I suggest is to deploy a NormalEmail.dotm template to users, in which the default font has been configured. For example, put it on a network shared location, use a startup script to remove the existing template on the user's
client, then copy the shared template to each user's local path. The location should be: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.

  • Transfer folders from outlook 2010 to hotmail server.

    Hello,
I have homail account and one day I discovered that some folders are missing my emails messages and also the sent folder missed all emails message in years 2012 till 2014. ( i don't know if my account been hacked or i deleted them by mistake). fortunately,
I used to have outlook 2010 in my laptop and desktop as well, my laptop was the same like hotmail online. but i was lucky because I didn't open my desktop computer for about a month, so I opened my desktop ( network cable removed to avoid sync)  and
found all missing emails and sent folder containing my missing messages, first I made a copy of myemail.pst to external hard disk, then I copied the sent folder to inside other folder in outlook 2010. and connected network cable and outlook synchronized to
hotmail server and now outlook 2010 in my desktop are the same like online but the folder i copied still there but not transferred to hotmail server ( I checked hotmail account using browser).
My question are how to transfer those folder data to hotmail server so i can access them from any where?
    my email: [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Yasser

    Pst-files can be connected via:
File-> Open-> Open Outlook Data File
Once connected, you can move the messages from one folder to another like you normally would.

  • Search issue with Outlook 2010 SP2 in Online mode

We are dealing with a weird issue that started after a routine maintenance window this past week.  We took our Exchange 2010 server down while we performed maintenance on our SANs.  After bring the servers back up we have developed an issue in
Outlook with searching.  When a user searches for emails only those that are before the outage are returned in the resultant set even if an email from after the outage matches the search.  However, if you search from OWA all the expected results
are returned.  Please remember that we are in Online mode with Outlook and not cached mode.
I can say that I have checked Exchange and it appears that all indexes are fine and the fact that OWA returns the correct result would prove that.
One other thing to note.  If you do an Advanced Find in Outlook and select frequently-used text fields it give weird search results, but it will include the emails from this week.
What am I missing?  I can't think of anything else to look for.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, when Outlook is in Online Mode, the search is based on the Exchange Search Service. Although the search works on OWA, I still suggest you try re-indexing on Exchange Server to check the result.
Moreover, there are some steps we can perform to narrow down this issue:
    1. Switch to Cached Exchange Mode, then the Index is based on the local computer, check if then the issue persists. If the issue persists, we can say it's not about the index, maybe something else stops Outlook from searching properly, such as an add-in.
Also, it can be a workaround if it works in Cached Mode.
    2. Create a new Outlook Profile to setup the account, check if the problem persists. Please do not remove the previous profile as this is just a test, I want to know if the problem persists with a new profile.
Please feel free to post back with more details.

  • Changing the default meeting time in Outlook 2010 to 50 minutes

Is there a way to change the default time for a meeting to 50 minutes.  I can go to Calendar, View, View Settings, Other Settings, and change to 15, 30 or 60 minutes.  What about 50?  Any ideas or suggestion?  Thanks

    Hi,
I think you have to choose another time scale on your calendar. Because Outlooks tries to match the timescale for new meeting requests. It is only possible to choose 30min or 60 min.
In order to change the timescale you will find a description here:

  • Can no longer see messages in public folders in Outlook (2010) conversation view

(originally posted this under MS Community outlook discussion and it was suggested I post it here):
    Hello:
I believe this may be related to a recent update, but previously I could see messages from public folders in my conversation view.  Now, I am only able to see messages in private folders (including sent items).
I have the cached exchange mode on.
I loved the conversation view because I could move e-mails out of my inbox to public folders (on our company server) to keep my inbox under required size limits, but still have easy access to e-mails within the conversation string.  That view in my
opinion was the best upgrade to Outlook when it first came out.  Now it's virtually useless for me again.
If there's something i can change to get those messages re-appearing again I'd really love to know what I can do, it was really useful for me.
Thanks in advance to any who reply!

    Hi,
Based on the descrtiption, I know that there is no emails exist in public folder when using conversation view in Outlook after installing update.
    1. I suggest use OWA to check whether emails exist in public folder when using Conversation View. If it works well, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
    2. Please check the connectivity between Outlook and Public Folder.
    3. I suggest disable conversation view for test to verify whether emails appear in public folder. If the emails appear, it seems an issue on Outlook Conversation View.
    4. I also suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins. Try to re-create profile to refresh the caches.

  • Folders in Outlook 2010

    Hi,
Our company just changed domain names as part of a rebrand and in the process acquired new email addresses.  Our new email address are IMAP/SMTP accounts.  I was able to set them up but noticed that the new accounts don't have the traditional "junk
email" and "sent items" subfolders.  I need some help figuring out how to have those included in our new accounts. Secondly, I created an auto-forward rule from our old accounts to our new accounts, but is there a way to have them auto-forwarded
so that the original sends name is in the address line in the inbox as opposed to the our own old email address that auto-forwarded the message?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Logon your webmail, are there the folders that are missing from Outlook Client? Did you use Exchange before the domain name changed?
If you changed from Exchange to IMAP, the name of the folders may change. For example, it was "Sent Items" in Exchange Accounts, but it is "Sent Mail" in IMAP Accounts. It should sync between Web and Outlook.
Since the emails are forwarded by your old email address, so in fact, the emails are sent from your old email address, we cannot change that fact. The thing we can do is to tell the original senders to send to your new address
after you received the forwarded emails.

  • Ghost folders in Outlook 2010 - "the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item"

I've seen many threads about these ghost folders that are created in my PST files, but the only solution proposed - create new pst and move the items there - is not working for me. I just created two new pst files, moved the old emails to the new ones, removed
old pst's and closed Outlook. When I opened it again, the ghost folders were created in the NEW pst files I had  just created.
Have there been any progress in a solution to this?
    Thanks.

Please use the MFCMAPI tool and logon your Outlook profile to find the certain PST.Then Try to delete the “ghost folder” as the following steps to check the result.
Open MFCMAPI.exe > Session > Logon your current profile > Hightlight the PST and double click to open it > Root Container > Top of Personal Folders > Find the certain folder > Right click and Delete folder.

    Hello,
First of all thank you for your answer. The Outlook version I'm using is 14.0.7113.5005 and the Exchange versuin is CU3. As I'm testing it on XP client it is probably the issue in the PS. I'll try it with Win7 client probably tomorrow. I wonder if there
exists any kind of workaround for XP clients.
