No Destination Drive Option when trying to install OSX 10.5.6 Update

Hi all,
I have installed OSX Leopard today (10.5) on to my G5 which seems to be working correctly.
I have since tried to update to 10.5.6 via the Software Updater (Mac OSX Update Combined) which wouldn't install.
I have since downloaded the MacOSXUpd10.5.6 from the Apple site and can't install that either.
When trying to install the latter, the installer won't allow me to select the volume to install it (the HD is showing in the window with the red stop sign and exclamation mark). When I click on it the message comes up: "You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I have tried rebooting, have shut down all applications and have turned off Time Machine etc. I'm not aware of what may be running in the background to prevent it if that is the problem.
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks m@

  • Error 1327.invalid drive: C:\ when trying to install

My computer crashed a while back and when I set up the new drive, the new root drive is "G:\"  instead of "C:\".  how can I get palm software to setup on "G"? if that is what I need to do.
    Post relates to: Palm m500

    What to do
You can use the "subst" DOS command to substitute the drive letter C: for the actual system drive.
Determine the drive letter of your system drive. If you did not set up your computer yourself, you may need to contact your IT department or a PC expert for help.
Close all running application on your PC, including the Palm Desktop installation wizard.
From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
Type cmd and click OK. Note: if you are using Windows 98 or 95, type command instead.
The command window appears. Type subst c: {system drive letter}:\ where {system drive letter} is the drive letter of the bootable or system drive on your Windows PC. For example, if your system drive is P:, the command would look like subst c: p:\
    Hit Enter.
    Close the command window.
Install the Palm Desktop software. It should work now.

  • No target destination when trying to install osx

Hey. I accidentally deleted osx from my computer when isntalling linux and i just put the install discs back into my computer and when the installer comes up it goes through the introduction the license agreement and when it says select destination, nothing pops up. Is there anything I should do before taking it to the apple store.

You should check to see if your disk is formatted for Mac OS. Try using disk utility from your install dvd.

  • Help. I accidentally formatted by the device name not the volume name when trying fresh install osx Mountain lion.

I was trying to do a fresh instal of Mountain Lion. By fresh I mean clean.
Firstly, my iMac disc drive isn't really working to well, so I have Mountain Lion on a usb.
I started up and held the option key.
Entered into disc utility mode, and started doing everything correct.
Then near at the end I when i'm required to select a start up disc it doesnt show anything... Help?
I checked around online and saw this tutorially and notice I had done something different.
    http://macs.about.com/od/MountainLion/ss/How-To-Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X- Mountain-Lion-On-A-Startup-Drive.htm
on page 2. where it says
When Disk Utility opens, select your Mac's startup volume from the list of devices. If you never changed its name, the startup volume will be listed as Macintosh HD. Be sure to select the volume name and not the device name, which will usually be the name of the physical drive, for instance, "500 GB WDC WD5."
I think I may have selected the device name. Is this the cause of my problem?
Can I fix this ? Please help?
I live in Auckland in New Zealand, I don't have any apple stores here

Ok, I realized that won't work, I don't think, because you can't enable it on your Mac.
However, if you have another Mac, you can use Firewire Target Disk Mode to install. Boot your Mac while holding down the T key. You will see a FireWire symbol on the screen. Then, connect the two with a Firewire cable. Your Mac hard drive will show up on the other. Try to install onto that.
This may not work, depending on the other Mac. If it is similar to yours, it should.
I'm not sure if you can do it the other way. If you put the DVD into the other Mac and boot it into Target Disk Mode, then boot yours holding down the option key, you may be able to select the DVD on the other Mac as the startup.
This very old article seems to indicate it will work: http://lowendmac.com/misc/06/0914.html

  • Trying to install OSX on 750

I have a spare 750 that was just a storage device for Windows (NTFS) i formatted it to fat32 to transfer files between Windows & OSX.
So no my dilemma is that OSX will not install on this drive.
I did extended drive testing under both Windows and OSX.
I can format it to Fat32 all day and night long. I can format it to NTFS all day and night long, transfer files back and forth and stress tested it extensively.
I want this to be my main OSX drive in my spare iMac.
I put it in and then i got this when initializing it with Disk Utility, using the built in OS one and the original 10.5.2 disks.
I also placed this in my MacPro and the same issue.
the message i get when trying to Install OSX or even formatting it to HFS+:
I cant seem to format it to HFS+ (Mac OS Extended Journaled)
any help, this drive has no issues or bad sectors
    thanks

should i be fine with formatting the file storage drive to Mac OS Extended Journaled (GUID) ?
Yes, though even APM would be fine for HFS+ Journaling is not considered necessary on data drives but is required on a boot drive. [Mac OS X: About file system journaling|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107249]
If you plan on using this drive with a PC you might consider FAT ("MS-DOS") but the max. file size is 4 GB which presents problems with video if you have huge files.

    Hi FloridaJoe,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are getting a 'not enough disk space' error when trying to install your HP Printer, even though it shows you have enough space to install the software.
I would like you to run the HP Printer Install Wizard- It was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
Let me know if you get the same error message, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Trying to install OSX.4 sys stalls when booting from dvd

I've read many of the discussions on this topic. Some are close but none are exactly like the problem I am encountering. I have a Power Mac G4 that was running OS9.2 and I've been trying to install OSX.4. I've tried every possible combination of starting from the dvd but it dones the same thing at the same point everytime. It restarts from the disk, I get the gray screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. It will run like this for about a minute or two and then freeze. I can't force quit and I have to restart. I thought it needed a firmware update so I checked the links (I had seen on some of the posts) but it looks like it's a machine that doesn't need one. But I'm not 100% sure how to tell.
I then went back and started with OSX and OSX.2 and they installed fine. I thought it would have to be installed progressively. But I still have the same issue. I am doing an erase and install with each upgrade. The software is a full retail version for each upgrade as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Michel,
Be aware that you can only use an external firewire disk as boot volume since USB is not a bootable interface with MacOS X on PPC-based computers.
The message you receive is o.k. Insert the Install DVD and reboot while holding down the c-key. This will boot you directly from the CD to the installer application. Once you selected the language, select disk utility from the MENU, select your External drive and format it as "Apple Extended (Journaled)".
Quit disk utility and proceed with the installation. Make sure you select the external drive as destination!
When you have to reboot you will boot to the internal disk again. That's o.k. Open disk utility and repair the external disk and also permissions on the external. Next download and install the Mac OS X Update 10.3.9 (Combo). (you are still booted from the internal hard disk, so you will not be prompted for a restart).
Now restart and hold down the Option-key during boot. In the boot-manager you can select the external disk as boot volume. If your computer booted o.k. you made it! Just remember to Repair permissions before and after an update!

  • Getting "setup.exe has stopped working" message when trying to install labview 2011 or 2012 on a windows 7 machine

I am getting a "setup.exe has stopped working" message when trying to install labview 2011 or 2012 on a windows 7 machine. I already tried running setup.exe as an administrator with the same results. I have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed on the affected machine. Could this be the cause of this issue? Or does someone know the root cause of such error?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi - are you getting it at the start of installation, during or after 100% progress has finished?
Is it just LabVIEW you're installing, or is it drivers too, in which case, what was the last large package that was installing at the time?
This could be caused by the NVIDIA chipset driver :

I recieve the following error message when trying to install Quicktime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."  I just trying to get the latest version of iTunes.  Thanks

"Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Error code 1632 when trying to install management tools

Getting this rather dated error message when trying to install the Exchange 2007 SP3 admin tools on a Windows 7 x64 Professional SP1 client PC.
"Installing product C:\temp\exchangeserver.msi failed. The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder. Error code is 1632."
I've done all the obvious stuff, the group everyone has full control of pretty much everything on the computer at this point, tried copying the files locally, tried running it from a UNC path, no luck.  Definitely am an administrator on the computer.
The only other software on it at this point is IE11 and Windows updates.
Tried it from the UI, tried it from the command line, i.e. setup /r:mt and I get the same error code.  Definitely is enough disk space.  The version I'm installing definitely is the x64 SP3 version.
    Any ideas?
