Man this is pissing me off. It says no device connected when i click media explorer. WHY?! I USED THE INSTALL DISK! HELP!
I think this person deserves to vent their frustration. Telling them to calm down is just as patronising and useless as all the 'creative' posts that really couldn't care whether your device is recognised and working or not. They just want you to buy another device. well... you've succeeded, I've tried everything and nothing works, the device isn't recognised. Since having this problem I've spoken to more and more people who have had the same issue and it's always blamed on something else, never the device or the operating system. Here's one 'customer' who didn't want to be an ipod clone now buying an ipod! Thanks.

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I am using windows 7 professional install disc. I can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?
Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer. -
We have 5 devices connected to the same apple ID. My kids want to text from their iPod but when they do, it shows up on their friends devices that it was sent from my email or cell phone #. Is there anyway to fix this?

You will also have to uncheck your phone number is Settings>Messages>Send and Receive. You can't delete the phone nunber since it associated with your yur accounbt whch has the phone. -
Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud: 2 iMacs, 2 iPhone 4s, 1 MacPro Laptop, and 1 iPad 2. When using Calendar, all the events were
duplicated on my husbands iMac. On his computer, under Calendar accounts, I had included iCloud and also my iCloud ID. I thought that because I had two accounts listed that were connected to iCloud, that might be the cause of the duplication. When I deleted ithe calendars from one of the accounts, it resulted
in deleting all of the events on all of our network devices!
I have since entered some new events into Calendar from my iMac and from my iPhone. These appear correctly on all devices except my husband's iMac where they are again all duplicated.
I have two questions: 1) How can I eliminate the duplicated events on my husband's computer and 2) How do I retrieve the old wiped out Calendar events from
Time Capsule. I don't know how to find Calendar in the Time Capsule. If I find the Calendar information in Time Capsule, how do I transfer it to my current Calendars?
I was obtaining phone help from one of the Apple techs at Apple Support, but our call was disconnected part way through. Didn't know how to reconnect with the tech.

SMC: 1.70f6
Running Yosemite 10.10
I recently purchased a Akitio Thunderdock.
***It does not mount and when I check the system report, the thunderbolt bus shows "No Device Connected."
I reset the PRAM numerous times.
Reset the SMC.
Everything is plugged in correctly, with a proper thunderbolt cable.
When I attach the thunderbolt cable to the MBP, the blue LED on the on the dock lights up. (meaning link connected)
But the thunder dock will not mount.
Thunderbolt specs:
Route String: 0
Link Status: 0x101
Firmware Version: 20080d.0
Status: No device connected
Port Micro Firmware Version: 1.2.1
Before I got the dock I used (and still do) use the thunderbolt port with a mini display adapter to connect a 2nd display.
(works fine for this function.)

I tested the Thunderdock with my GF's Macbook Air (2013) it mounts fine and sees every port on the dock (USB3, eSATA, FW800).Same here.

I already have an Apple ID account with 4 devices connected to it but I would like to make a new one with a desperate password for my school iPad. How do I do that?
You can create a new Apple ID and password for the iPad but none of the content downloaded using the Apple ID associated with the four devices will be available on the iPad.
Create new > Apple - My Apple ID
It's not possible to use two passwords with one Apple ID. -
I am facing issues with my music on my iOS device. I have five devices connected to my apple id. And out of which a Windows Machine and iPhone is not able to sync the purchased songs on the the Windows machine and the iPhone. The iPhone4 shows the songs are not supported and on the Windows Machine the songs do not play completely. Can anyone advice what could have gone wrong ? Because rest of the devices are synced to MacBook and they are able to sync the content normally. I have even subscribed to iTunes Match but the problem is still not fixed.
Firstly... a little Clarity...
Devices refer to iDevices... iPod... iPhone... iPad. .. Not Computers.
Authoriation applies ONLY to Computers... of which there is a Limit of 5 per Apple ID.
If the issue is with iTunes on your Windows Computer... Perhaps you need to Re-install iTunes...

More than one device connected?
I am testing out a project for a mobile device and when I package the apk and attempt to launch it on my phone, I get an error message sying that it can't be done because I have more than one device connected. I only have one device connected.
I've tested this project before n my phone and it launched as it was supposed to, but I added a document class to the project and think that might be causing the problem. Previously, I added all of my action script to a keyframe on the timeline, and everything worked fine.
I'd like some feedback as to whether or no the document class issue is the likely problem and how to get around it. If that's not the problem, I'd like to what what might be going on. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.using a document class is not the problem (though your document class may be a problem if it has errors).
use a file explorer to see if your computer lists more than 1 connected device. or restart your computer to reset its external connections. -
I have an Ipod classic which was the original device connected to Itunes.
The right way to consolidate your music is to copy it from one computer to another. You can copy music from an iPod classic though:

When the music is all in the same library, sync the Touch.
You will still need to authorize your computer to play purchased music. For that, use the Apple ID that was used to purchase it. -
"Device connected to USB port has malfunctioned and is not recognized"
When I hooked my nano up to my computer today, the screen went black with a silver apple icon on it...it's still all lite up and on...but it won't change from that screen.
And my computer says, "Device connected to USB port has malfunctioned and is not recognized", so it won't show up in iTunes.

Prior to problem: All 5 devices (iMac, Mac Air, iPad and (2) iPhone 4) were surfing wirelessly on Airport express.
Replaced AE with Time Capsule.
Problem: Wife's iPhone could not connect to T.C. Other 4 devices connect without problem. Wife's iPhone can surf other wireless networks. After doing a total shut down of all devices and restart of each, starting with 3rd party router, then T.C., then each device one at a time... wife's iPhone can connect, but Mac Air can not. Observed that in each case, the one that can't connect is the last one to be restarted and attempt to connect. Did this a 3rd time. I chose my iPhone to be the last to try to connect . My iPhone can't connect but all other devices are connected. Every case: last to connect can't connect.
Steps taken before realizing it was the "last device to try connecting" (back when I thought it was simply my wife's iPhone): Wifi Off/On. "Forget Network." Reset Network Settings. Power iPhone Off/On. Power T.C. Off/On. Turned T.C. wireless security Off/On. All these were done multiple times.
It appears there is no hardware issue since all are capable of connecting to T.C., just not at the same time. I don't know much about protocols and addresses. Could it be that T.C. is fouling up the assignment of an address or channel or route or whatever to the 5th device that tries to connect? Is the 5th device left without a address, channel or route to the T.C.?
My security is WPA2 Personal. It's on. The password is alphanumeric 9 characters. On my iPhone that can't connect, the satus wheel is spinning continuously beside my network's name. Tapping the blue arrow for more info shows the window that has "Forget this network" at the top, followed by DHCP, BootP and Static. DHCP is selected. The following fields are listed: IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS, Search Domain and Client ID. Most times, all of these fields are blank. Right now, the first two fields are filled in. IP address starts with 169 and subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

That is auto IP and means the device was not able to pick up an IP from the dhcp server.
I am scratching my head.. it is not one I have seen with Mac stuff or on these columns since I started answering questions.. it is seen in mixed environments fairly often that stuff doesn't play nice with each other. But Mac - Apple has shown fairly consistent wireless functionality.
Is the TC brand new? Did you ring Apple and ask if they can sort it?
When you are using 100% apple environment, to me that is their job to figure out.
For what you can do, I would try and flash the TC back to 7.5.2 firmware. I have heard people say the latest TC that is not allowed but have a go.. if you run Lion certainly download and use exclusively 5.6 airport utility.
Is the TC set to router or bridge? Is the TC the only router?
Could you bypass at least the issue for now using the airport express plugged into the TC as an AP?? -
I just set up the airport wireless modem - with a comcast internet router - all wireless device connect seemlessly (3 Iphones, Mac Air, and a Sony Laptop) but my IPAD 1 no longer connects. It tries to but never connects. I have reset it and have airprot utility app downloaded on my IPAD - it shows the modem and the internet no connected?
Do you mean an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to a Comcast Modem?

This morning Find My Phone alert went off on all my devices connected to my Apple ID at the same time, is this a bug or should I be worried that my id is hacked? I didn't have Find My Phone app installed on many of these devices. Please advice. Thanks in advance.
If you have enabled Find My iPhone/iPad on your devices, any one with access to your Apple ID and Password can Play Sound on your devices.

Thunderbolt port No device connected
Just purchased a new tb harddrive and when I connect it to my Macbook Pro 17 (early 2011) it doesn't recognize it? I am running Mavericks. It doesn't show up in disc utillity and if you look in system profiler under thunderbolt it says No device connected, Firmware Version: 13.0-2.8 and Port Micro Firmware Version: 1.2.1
Tried SMC and PRAM reset but no change.
I have another Macbook Pro 13 (late 2012) running Lion and it connected directly without issues so I know the drive and the TB cable works great.
There are no updates in the Appstore app that shows up so I was wondering if there is any firmware update for the TB port I need to download separate?Same here.
