No devices listed in image capture (os10.7, ic 6.1-440)

I am very happy with a new MacBook Air.  My loving and dear husband is configuring the network, printer, etc. on the machine.  He is having problems with the networked scanner.  The OS is Lion 10.7, the Image Capture version is 6.1-440, and the scanner device is a Xerox 6505 WorkCentre.  No devices are listed and this version is different enough that he does see how to add a new device.  How do you add a networked twain scanner?  He had the unit working with my older MacBook Pro running snow leopard, so he is pretty good with my Mac's.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

For Image Capture to 'see' a networked scanner an ICA driver would need to be installed on the Mac. I suggest you check the Xerox web site for an ICA scanner driver and if one is available and it is installed then the scanner should appear under the Shared section of Image Capture.
Note that Xerox may also offer a TWAIN driver for OS X. This can also make the device appear under the Shared section of Image Capture as well as provide a means for applications like Adobe Acrobat to scan.

  • Why can I see my device appearing on Image Capture but no photos pop up?

I had to re-format my Mac and my external hard drive today due to a suspected virus.
My photos now only exist on my iPhone and iPad, and I would like to transfer them to my computer. However, when I open up Image Capture, all I see is my device listed in the left-hand column but no pictures pop up. I tried it on both my iPhone and iPad with the same result.
Please help or provide an alternative to Image Capture as I cannot bear to lost 3,000 irreplaceable photos!
    Thank you in advance!

I don't use iCloud for backing up because I currently live in Indonesia where connection to the internet is not the greatest.
I did use Time Machine for backing up my stuff but I had to delete everything because of the suspected virus.
What a bind I have put myself in!

  • My Firewall is not letting me change permissions, and documents with .501 and .503 extensions are getting created related to Device Discovery and Image Capture!

I have good reason to believe my system has been compromised. Just a few minutes ago I went into the "System & Security" from the "Preferences" and I just happened to click on my firewall settings and in the window in which users can "allow" or "block" certain actions I saw a permission for screen sharing green and allowed, [shown in the picture below] and I tried many times to click on it and press the minus sign or change the permission from green to yellow or red and simply block it, but it appears to be frozen or locked and I cannot even select it. I'm on the administrator account so it's not a matter of user account. Clicking on it doesn't do anything. Having said that I can check and select the "Stealth Mode" and "Block All incoming Connections"... but why am I not able to select that Screen Sharing and what is it? [Image below]
I also spotted 2 strange looking docs created in my Library/Caches folder, file name: com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501 and com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.503  [Image below]
In Finder, on the sidebar, next to the "Computer" icon under the devices, the title "Computer" itself has disappeared, and it's basicly blank and empty in front of the "Computer" Icon, it works and takes me to "Macintosh HD" when I click on it, but the writings have disappeared... [Image below]
Would anyone please tell me what this is all about? I'd really appreciate your help. Mac OS X 10.7.5 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

I will be working on connecting my files up to my server. At the moment, here are some screen shots of some messages that I am getting when I am saving my file.
I'm not sure what to make of these messages. I tried to put a new spry horizontal menu bar on my main page, and when it appeared, it displayed as a spry vertical menu bar.
Here is a picture of what it looks like:
I"m going to refer to the links that were suggested to me though. I'm not sure if pictures of the code will help to solve my problem. I'm going to try again to connect my files to my server though.

  • No Preferences with Image Capture

No Preferences option when Image Capture app is running. I can't believe it, but is this new in SL? If so why?
I have discovered the Prefs for AutoImporter. Is that all there are?
I am ham-strung by my Canon SX200 failing to be recognised as a USB device so I can't see it to strip out the image files in Finder, nor will its images show up in Picasa. When the camera appears in Image Capture, the chance to modify what app is opened and setting this to AutoImporter dumps the pics into a folder. Can this be (simply) modded to run AutoImp AND Picasa?

First: no Prefs in Image Capture, There are Prefs in AutoImporter, It seems odd that the more user-facing IC has none.
The preferences are there, just not in a separate preferences window like with many other apps. When you attach a camera with firmware or add-on software compatible with Mac OS X, it appears in the "Devices" list of Image Capture. Click on it in the devices list & you should get a resizable view of its images on the right & on the left, below the Devices list, a +device settings+ pane with the same name as in the devices list. The +per camera+ preferences are there, allowing you to select an app (or no app) to automatically open when that camera is connected, whether or not to share the camera over the local network, & if the images in the camera should be automatically deleted after import. If you don't see the device settings pane, click on the icon at the bottom of the Devices list to expose it.
If you are concerned about accidentally wiping the camera's images, do not select the preference "Delete After Import." This setting is retained, so unless you select the delete option again, that won't happen.
If you have already selected some other app to automatically open, the next time you connect the camera, launch Image Capture manually & change that preference to the desired app (or to no app). That preference will be retained as well. You can't set more than one app to launch automatically, though. This would result in both apps trying to manage the camera's images at the same time, leading to a crash or an error in one or both of them, depending on their design.
Of course, you can also set any available preferences of the app you have chosen to handle the images. This will vary depending on that apps capabilities & design as well. That's why you can't set AutoImporter's preferences from within Image Capture -- it is a separate app that just like its name suggests, only automatically imports the images into a pre-designated folder hierarchy.
For whatever app you choose to automatically open, you also get whatever 'per connection' options that app supports. For instance, both Image Capture & Preview have the same resizable view of the images, & the same row of options along the bottom of that. Until you click one of the two import buttons, nothing happens to the images in the camera, & they are deleted on import only if that preference is set.
If you think about it, this is a very logical & flexible implementation. You have +per device+ preferences conveniently centralized in one app, but +per application+ preferences & +per connection+ options localized in each application, since they may vary greatly from app to app. This gives you many more options than if everything was crammed into Image Capture.
    Does that make sense?

  • Using Image Capture with HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g

The printer/scanner shows up twice under the device list in Image Capture.  Select either and I get an error message, "Scanner Session Fails to Open".  The Officejet Pro works ok as a printer.  It is connected to my Mac Desk Pro and to a MacBook Pro, both OS X 10.6.8, via an ethernet hub.  This problem developed recently, I had no problem using the scanner in the past.

    Hello srschoo,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when it comes to scanning.
I also see that you have attempted to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
One other step that we can try is to go through the steps that are listed in the following document.  " A 'No Scan Options' or 'Scan settings are not set' Message Displays for HP All-in-One Printers When..."
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • TS3195 since installing ios7 on my ipad I can no longer import photos to my Mac using Image Capture or even Preview. The device appears in the device list, but no photos appear. Anyone have a solution for this? Is it another glitch in ios7?

Hi - I just dowloaded io7 to to my mini ipad and now cannot upload the photos on it to my Mac - which I was able to do with the old system, and still can do with my old first generation Ipad. Very annoying. The device appears in the list in Image Capture and Preview, but no photos appear. Is there a way around this? It is the quickest and best way of transferring photos from a mobile device to the computer - but has iOS 7 messed this up???

Hi I have figured it out on my own just today coz what apple suggested didn't help much so I just have to do it by myself.
This is what you need to do:
open your computer and search for autoplay, it will open rightaway and then scroll down look for your device then change "ask everything" to "import photos and videos in windows" connect your ipad again then tthe import box will open.. and your good!
i hope this will help you. Good luck! :-)

  • Canon MP560 no longer recognized by Image Capture/Preview

I have a Canon MP560 wireless printer/scanner and for some reason the scanner can no longer be seen by either Image Capture, Preview, or the Canon mp560 scanner toolbox under the Print menu. This happened either after installing 10.6.5 or after installing the latest Canon Printer Driver updates (I am not sure which caused it, as I did both updates recently...)
It can, however, be seen by MP Navigator 3.0.
Anyone found a fix for this yet?
    thanks

Okay, have done some testing and found some interesting things.
With a new install of 10.6.5 (selecting not to add any printers) I was not able to locate any Canon AIO via wireless. The Default Add Printer pane was empty so it looks like the printer and scanner driver needs to be present on the Mac. For the printer this is understood, as the Canon protocol 'canonijnetwork' is not present in the BJPrinters folder located in Library > Printers > Canon (due to the customized installation the Canon folder was not even present). In checking the Image Capture folder (HD > Library) I also found that the Devices folder was missing. Inside of here you would normally find the Canon IJScanner package/s for a standard installation of 10.6. But with the customized install this package was not present and appears to influence the Mac's ability to 'see' the networked scanner component. To confirm this, I installed the Canon v2.4.1 driver update, which in turn created the Devices folder in Image Capture and consequently made the scanner component appear in the Default Add Printer view.
Another observation was that prior to installing the Canon v2.4.1 update, Image Capture would still display the MP on the network, but under the Shared menu - not the Devices menu. So even without the ICA driver installed nor the MP scanner driver installed, I was still able to use Image Capture to scan a document from the wireless MP. The same was true for Preview in as far as the Networked Scanner selection showed all the MP's present on the wireless network.
At this stage I believe that the Canon driver update you mentioned may have contributed to part, if not all, of your current symptom. The install.log does have a record of what this update installs. If you checked it there may be record of the installer not completing correctly. In any case I assume that for your Mac this update did not complete correctly and is causing the problem. So one suggestion would be to run the [Canon Driver v2.4.1 update|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899] again (or for the first time if you simply used Software Update previously) to see if this repairs the CanonIJScanner packages.

  • TS3195 My mac mini (Snow Leopard, v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone 4, iphone 4s or ipad2 in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview but it does in iTunes.  I am at a loss for importing photos, short of emailing them.  Glitch with OS X 10.6.8 ?

My Mac Mini (v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone as a device in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview although, iTunes does.  I am at a loss for importing photos other than emailing them to myself. Same problem with my iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad2 and New iPad. Is this a problem with OS X 10.6.8 as I read some posts claim? Please help.

I was able to import photos in iPhoto and Image capture when I was running SL 10.6.8 on my older MacBook.
Did you try quitting everything, restart the Mac and then try again?
Are there any updates at all for the Mac? I was helping one user not all that long ago and there were updates for her Mac software that had nothing to do with the OS and when she downloaded the updates - the iPad was then recognized in iTunes.

  • Image Capture won't select individual photos

When I connect a camera to my computer, and Image Capture opens, I'm normally used to selecting multiple items in a list by using the Apple-key, but this doesn't seem to work in Image Capture. I can only select one at a time, or a whole series as if the Shift key was held down. Has anyone else experienced this apparent bug, and does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi.
Command-click will work as expected. After you click "Download Some..." you get the window that shows the camera's contents. At the top left of that window is a View selection. You have to change the view to List (it defaults to icon or thumbnail view). Once in List View, Shift-click and Command-click work as they should. You can select non-consecutive items to download. (Be sure to download to a location NOT inside the iPhoto library folder. If you want the photos inside iPhoto, you must import them after the download is complete.)
The list view Image Capture window is really informative. Drag it to a larger size, and it shows you not only the filename and thumbnail, but lots of other info from your camera. It even says whether the flash was off, on, or in red-eye reduction mode. Very cool.
    Regards.

  • Image capture no longer scanning in 600dpi :(

    Hi there,
I've been trying to scan some images on my Epson XP-400 (which I usually have no issue with) but today the scanned image file is just all black. The overview scan picks up the image perfectly! But for some reason it's saving as a just a black box.
Is there anyone that can help me with this? It's driving me insane!!
I'll add that I did manage to scan in 400 and 720dpi. So I cannot figure out why the 600 would not be working when it was fine a couple of days ago!
ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thank you

Since downloading Apple OS X 10.4 updates on Aug 4th I am unable to use the compact flash card reader in my HP PSC 2175 AiO printer. After this download I can no longer use the flash card slot on the printer but I can print and scan.
Here are the updates that I ran on Aug 4th:
    2008-08-04 21:38:56 -0400: Installed "iPhoto Update" (7.1.4)
    2008-08-04 21:39:01 -0400: Installed "iLife Support" (8.3)
    2008-08-04 21:39:03 -0400: Installed "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-002" (1.0)
    2008-08-04 21:39:11 -0400: Installed "iWeb Update" (2.0.4)
    2008-08-04 21:39:20 -0400: Installed "iMovie Update" (7.1.4)
    2008-08-04 21:39:44 -0400: Installed "iTunes" (7.7.1)
    2008-08-04 21:41:15 -0400: Installed "Security Update 2008-005 (Intel)" (1.0)
Image Capture says there is no device connected. Image Capture v 3.0.3 (333) modified Aug 4, 2008 21:40.
I used the import capability to bring pictures from my flash card into iPhoto on Sunday August 3rd. It worked flawlessly as it has done since I purchased the printer with built-in card reader. But now I'm SOL.
Filed a bug report but by the looks of this thread upgrading to 10.5 will not fix the problem either.

  • Brother DCP8080DN scanner does not show up in Image Capture's list of devic

Hi, I've been printing successfully to a Brother DCP-8080DN for a while now. I have the latest CUPS driver and recently installed the latest Twain driver from Brother. I can scan from the Brother Control Center utility but the printer scanner does not show up in Image Capture nor does it appear in the Print&Fax Print Queue (it's supposed to show up on the right side). Any idea how to get 10.6.6 to recognize the scanner? Rebooting didn't help.

I found the legacy twain_32.8ba however when I try to find the "into" location, and I typed it very carefully..there is no path to this location.
I can't understand why Adobe would do this to me. Do they expect me to go out and buy another scanner?  I've written to Microtek. All previous versions of Elements I've had import from this scanner and I've installed the latest scanner software. It's horrible that I have to throw away the money I spent on this so-called upgrade and go back to a previous version. Who thinks up this stuff?
I hope other potential purchasers of 9 understand what they're getting into. I would also like to get rid of the bothersome "ID interface" at the beginning..I would like to get to Photoshop edit is quickly as possible but Adobe is putting me through some sort of merchandising of their "free" web space. I don't want it. I'm spending way to much time on this. - Larry

  • Image Capture shows no devices (again)

    Hi,
    I have a MacBook Air (2012) running Mac OS X 10.9.1, 1.8GHz Intel Core i5, with 4GB ram.
I have a Cannon MP510, it shows up on the list of printers in the System Preferences.
I had a similar problem with the previous operating system (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5419672)
I now have a Time Capsule and I have tried connecting the printer to my laptop with USB and also via the Airport Time Capsule (both by USB).
The MP510 show up in Printers & Scanners but no Scan, and Image Capture shows no devices as being found.
    I have looked at:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp510#DriversAndSoftware
But they have no drivers for 10.9.1 but I did try the driver for 10.8 again.
I have made sure that the printer is in Scan mode, I have tried Scan to PC, and Scan to PDF. (There isnt a Scan to Mac)
Any ideas on how I can get my MacBook to detect that the MP510 is also a scanner so that I can use image capture (or any other free software) to get scanned images on to my Mac?
    Thanks,
    Mulder

I have downloaded Cannon's MP Navigator and it says that it cannot communicate with the scanner, Scanner driver will be closed, and number 155.0.0

  • Image Capture application keeps "losing" my device

Image Capture was telling me that there wasn't a scanner or camera connected. I use an HP Photosmart C4680. The printer aspect has been fine since upgrading to SL. I inserted my SL disk. Opened Optional Installs. Went through the prompts etc. and selected to install the Printer Support. Ejected the disk. Restarted computer. Opened Image Capture and device was listed on left side margin and test worked perfectly.
The problem now is that every 12-24 hours the device disappears again from Image Capture.
Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas how to permanently correct it?

    Similar problem with Lexmark X4550.
Printing fine whether or not Image capture recognises the scanner.
Open image capture no scanner listed (ipod and phone are listed).
Unplug USB and pug in - scanner appears and works (there is a bug where the rotation correction is not supported and the scan fails)
Quit image capture and re-launch image Image capture scanner is "lost" (ipod and phone appear as before). Unplug and plug in USB cable and scanner re-appears.
Anyone have any suggestions as how I can make Image capture "remember" I have a scanner attached.
I'm using the bundled Lexmark driver with SL.
    Cheers
    Ben

  • Add a device to image capture

My Image capture has no device listed, neither the laptop. How do I add the laptop as a device?

A camera or SD card plugged in is a device.

  • Image Capture does not have a 'Devices' option

I have a new scanner and I installed the drivers. It's showing fine in Photoshop CS3 but the window for it is awkward and small and barely has any features to it (there is no selection to for Advanced either). I figured I should try to use Image Capture instead, hoping to have better luck and more features. However Image Capture is not allowing me to go to 'Devices > Browse Devices' because there is no 'Devices' menu listed at all. I've restarted, unplugged things, plugged devices back in. It just says 'No Camera or Scanner Selected' ... the Command B is not even working either.
Has anyone ever had this happen, should I try reinstalling Image Capture?

As for the scanner - so is this new one wireless? When I hooked up my Epson All-in-One, I had to install it via USB first before I could install the wireless (per their instructions).  With Snow Leopard, I simply installed the driver and it covered and recognized both the print and scan function - not so in Lion; I had to go through hoops with the scanner part and it finally showed up as a separate unit. I thought that is silly, but - as long as it works.....  I'm trying to think of possibilities since I'm about out of ideas, so you might want to consider that (if it applies). The other troubleshooting suggestions usually include redoing the "add" function after a reboot.
As for Image Capture, I am out of ideas. FWIW, I never use it - in my workflow, there is no need for it. Not sure if this would have an impact, but make sure that you choose Image Capture in the CDs&DVDs Preference Pane (mine is set to ignore or ask purposely):
If that does not work, I'd suggest reinstalling the OS over the top of what you have.
