No devices or device button showing in iTunes 12
If I plug my iPhone 5 into my iMac, I can usually open iTunes (12, fyi) and see my devices listed. Did so today and the following:
1. I show no devices button in the upper left in iTunes. Have the music, movies and tv buttons and the " ..." only
2. Clicking on Devices in the File menu has all grayed options
3. iTunes Preferences on Devices does show backups for various devices but didn't want to use any of these as I don't want to restore anything
4. Every time I plug the iPhone into the iMac I get the "do you trust this computer" message, answer yes
5. On the iPhone, General, iTunes wi-fi sync offers no options, all are grayed out
6. On the iPhone, Setting, iTunes & AppStore all info appears correct
7. Homesharing is turned on
iMac 10.7.5 4GB

It sounds like you are connecting your iPhone to your iMac via a USB lightning cable, but the iPhone isn't appearing in iTunes 12.

Had the same issue. Tried everything that was posted for troubleshooting bye apple and on the discussions.
Finally, tried something that solved it and it works flawlessly now. I changed my wireless router.
I was using my ISP's supplied ZyXEL PN660 ADLS2+ with Wireless N. Swtiched to an older Linksys WRT160N and it is working beautifully now.
Take a look at your router, make sure the firmware is up to date, and that UPnP is enabled, and if all is correct, and you have done everything else, try another Wireless router if you can. -

Always charge the iPad battery with the supplied power adapter/charger and plug it into a wall socket. Don't use your computer to charge the device. You do make it sound like that is what you are doing, so reset the iPad and then try charging again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Look here for suggestions about the decode not being recognized in iTunes.

IOS Devices not showing in iTunes
I'm running the latest version of Mac OS X (10.8.2) and the latest version of iTunes (11.0.1). I haven't had to connect any of my devices for some time (as I sync my iPhone via Wifi) but I want to wipe out my daighter's iPad and I can't seem to get iTunes to detect the device. I have also tried plugging in other devices (iPhone & iPod Touch) and none of them are being detected by iTunes. I have gone through the troubleshooting steps but nothing has worked - I've restarted the Mac, restarted the iOS devices, etc.
Any other ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks!Just tried that option but got about 20 error messages firing off at the very end of the process (every time I clicked "OK" I would get another one immediately).
The error messages were all a variation of this:
<<The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.>>
The last portion (AppleMobileDevice.*) was replaced with each error message - many of which were about printers. -

Sorry, disregard the last response; I can't edit it. You should dry it BEFORE trying different cables. The safest way to go about this is dry your iPhone inside-out and to not turn it on until it's dry. Maybe there is a little moisture stuck inside preventing it from booting, but if you're lucky, it's not permanently damaged. The best way I've heard of to dry it is to leave it overnight in a tight bag with dry rice or, better yet, silica packets (those anti-moisture things found in packaged items). Maybe longer if you want to be extra safe. If it still doesn't charge without the Apple logo flashing, try using different Lightning to USB cables. Maybe it's just a bad cable, but you shouldn't test that until you've dried your phone.

Devices don't show on iTunes 11.0.4 (OS X 10.8.4)
Recently devices stopped showing on iTunes, more specifically my iPhone 4S and iPad.
I plug them via the USB cable and they don't show on the upper right hand corner of iTunes.
I have tried reinstalling iTunes 11.0.4, restarting my computer, turning devices off then back on, and nothing has worked. The USB cables and ports are working just fine. I have searched for numerous discussions on this but none of the solutions have worked for me.

I have the early 2011 Macbook Air (non illuminated keyboard) and know that Airplay does not work on this model (Something to do with the Graphic Card spec IMHO). Thus to be able to use Airplay on AppleTV, etc then I have purchased the App "AirParrot" as recommended on here and in my local Apple Store.

I need help with a few things....
1.) My ipod touch (5th gen) was doing what i believe was an ios7 update when i stopped it becuz it was taking forever. After that the screen just said connect to itunes. I've looked up how to fix it and i know it would work but there is a few things...I dont ever use my ipod for music. Just for apps and stuff and I have never connected it to itunes or anything. I need help making it so when i connect my ipod to the computer it starts syncing. But when I follow the directions for that, it says go to the device button and I dont have that option...Help!!
2.) In all the help videos, it says to do the slide to turn off thing but my ipod never lets me!! It does turn off though.
Theres a few other things. I need to know if this problem can be fixed if I can't find a way to fix the things i just said. Or if there is somebody that I can have repair it for me. Also if I have a warranty with Best Buy, I need to know if this could be covered. This was a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas and I use it a lot. I did the latest iTunes update...I have 2 iPhones--each thru a different provider. Now, I can't sync to download any music from iTunes. iTunes doesn't recognize either device now. I went thru diagnostics, didn't work. I tried the suggestions from Apple...it says to click the device button in upper right corner....there isn't one. When I connected each for the first time after update, it "installed device drivers". I have checked for further updates on iTunes--nothing. I made sure there were no updates listed for iPhones...all up to date. I get an error code and from what I have looked through in forums etc, it seems like a lot of people are getting it...0ex000084 I believe it was. Windows opens to download photos but that's it. Devices are not listed at all. I have tried all 3 USB ports in computer too. I have never had any problems before this update!! HELP! I just bought $15 worth of music I can't download to phones now!
On the left hand side of iTunes do you have the sidebar up left hand side?
If this is not up then try this, with iTunes open press "Control" and "s" together and it should bring it up. From the sidebar it should show an option devices with the iPhones underneath it. -
Unable to update, restore or recover. Slider doesn't slide and number pad doesn't work for passcode. What next? Worked last night . Battery charged. When I push Home button I get my backgroung but can't slide slider. Device is recognized by iTunes.Help! Thank you.
Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

Where is the "device" button in the new version of itunes? Whenever we connect our ipod touch(es) -- 4th generation....a device button NEVER appears. We can't "click and drag" new music purchases to our "device" b/c our "device" never comes up.

Devices button missing in Windows iTunes 11.1.3
There is no Devices button in iTunes in the upper right. When i plug in my iPhone, nothing happens except iTunes-wise (I get a prompt on the iPhone asking if I want to trust the computer and I click Trust and nothing happens; Windows asks me to define what should happen with the iPhone is connected and I let the prompt go away). I have done all the obvious things:
uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
restarted the Apple Mobile Devices service and confirmed it is set up as an Automatic service
restarted Windows
unplugged the iPhone and plugged it back in
made sure my computer is authorized
In iTunes, File > Devices has no options that aren't grayed out.
Windows Explorer does show the iPhone. This seems like an iTunes issue.
Thanks for any suggestions.I figured this out. The Apple Mobile Devices USB Driver was missing, though it was on the computer. Following the instructions to use devmgmt.msc to update the driver from the local file worked.
