No DHCP after fresh install Windows 7 64 bit

OK so we are upgrading out computer to windows 7. A particular model has gave me some really wierd issues. it is a lenovo 7844B4U. After a fresh install off the cd of windows 7 64 bit dhcp does not work and if we leave the cable plugged in it overloads
the network. It has the right drivers and nothing seems to work, only a static ip works. Now we have the 32 bit image of Win 7 that came with the box. if we install that then DHCP work just fine and it work. It only happens to this particulr model. I have
tested on 3 different boxes.

I'm a bit confused: you put a hard drive with an -identical- 64-bit install of Windows 7 from a non-working machine into another non-working machine and it begins to work correctly? Or is it a different 64-bit build of Windows 7? Or is it something else
altogether? It seems odd that an identical build on identical hardware would work on one machine but not both - something has to be different, I think.
If you have DHCP set up with registered MAC addresses, and if these machines originally all had static addresses, are you sure their MACs are registered correctly? And, if they have multiple NICs, are all of the NICs MAC adresses registered? If only one
of multiple is registered,  are you connecting to that one?
Is DHCP newly implemented, or has it been around for a while? If it has been around, then was there a reason those XP builds had their IP addresses set statically?
Ok let me try to explain it a little better. I have 3 computer all the same models 7844B4U. I have 3 hard drives that work in the same model. Hard drive 1 has XP installed and had a static IP set. Hard drive 2 has our custom 64bit image of windows 7. and Hard
drive 3 has a same image that came with the computer when we got them which is Windows 7 32 bit. the xp image had a static ip and was done before my time here so I have no idea why they gave it an ip or what. Now computer 1 and computer 2 will not pick up
dhcp. Those 2 had static ips set in the computer. Computer 3 will pick up dhcp. No matter which of the 3 hard drives I put in computer 1 and 2 dhcp will not work. Now if i put all 3 hard drive in computer 3 they all pick up dhcp. And computer 3 never had a
static ip set before.

I just bought this laptop 3 weeks ago. I freshly installed 8.1 from a CD and so far, the webcam doesn't work. It doesn't appear in Device Manager and Fn + F6 doesn't work. What should I do? Couldn't find drivers around the net. MSI page for this laptop doesn't provide the driver for the webcam. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did it work before you installed Windows 8.1?
Do you have SCM installed? Is it working?

  • Touchsmart 600-1037d will not recognize Touchscreen after fresh install Win 8 Pro 64-bit

Would appreciate anyone's help in how to resolve my issue with my HP Touchsmart 600-1037d.  I have completed a fresh installation of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, and the Touchscreen feature is not activated.  Unlike some of the other similarly related enquiries, I do not receive an error message in my Device Drivers that recognizes the Touchscreen and not have the correct drivers.  In my case, the OS simply does not recognize the Touchsreen features that were functional in Windows 7 64-bit.  I have tried using the NextWindow drivers from HP, Windows Update Catalog, and NextWindow websites, however none seem to work.  I have even tried a type of forced "installation" by right-clicking the relevant .inf files - with no success.

    Dear frrw,
Thank you for your reply and comments.  After reading through the pages from the link you provided, perhaps I am missing something.  I have successfully installed Windows 8 64-bit on my HP Touchsmart 600-1037d, which uses the nVidia GT230 adapter.  I have also successfully installed the latest nVidia Win8 drivers for the GT230.  All the features on the Touchsmart 600-1037d work fine - except there is no Touchscreen function.  In Device Manager there is no notification that there is a driver missing, ie Device Manager does not recognize that there is a Touchscreen device that I would need to update.  In Win7 64-bit the Touchscreen function worked fine.
I have tried forcing the installation of the following drivers with no success, ie Win8 64-bit simply does not recognize that there is a Touchscreen device to install.
    - NextWindow drivers from HP
    - Windows Update Catalog drivers for the NextWindow 1950
    - NextWindow website
    Would appreciate any further advice.

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

How can I choose to boot from MAC OS by default after I installed Windows? I have a MacBook Pro Leo 10.6.8. I used bootcamp to install Windows XP SP2, but now if I don't press the option key it will start up with Windows, and I don't want that. Thanks for any help.

Select it in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

No easy fix for a few reasons:
    1) Bootcamp requires a hybrid MBR for the partition table. That is: both an MBR and a GPT partition table at the same time with the GPT one having all partitions and the MBR one having only the ones that are relevant, but at most 4 of them (including the protective partition and the Macintosh HD one). Which leads us to:
    2) The MBR part of the hybrid partition table cannot work with 3TB hard drives. MBR is limited to 2TB.
I am working on a small EFI app that can boot Windows in EFI mode on a Mac and that would mean that you can go GPT only on your system. The progress of the app is slow due to the nature of EFI and for now requires that you do an unattended Windows install with slipstreamed graphics drivers, but we are adding VGA loading on top of EFI quite soon after the rest of the app stabilises. The status of the app is documented at:
Win7 x64 booting natively via EFI (no bios emulation)
Windows does actually successfully boot in EFI mode on most Macs (anything with a 64bit EFI should work), but does not have graphics support even if you load the driver due to the VGA pci registers not being set by the firmware. Furthermore, in Setup and Safe Mode, Windows uses VGA instead of GOP which is a failure by design since VGA is a BIOS standard and not really compatible without hacks with EFI. Other EFI implementations also add VGA compatibility at a high cost to the firmware complexity for the VGA cards available on the market that don't actually contain anything in their ROM except the VGA BIOS.
    My recomendations:
    1) Install on a second smaller hard-drive; or
    2) Wait for the EFI app to come out officially and use that to boot Windows Vista SP1 x64 and Windows 7 x64 (RTM and SP1) in the native EFI mode.
    3) Wait for Windows 8 which supports VGA-less booting acording to the AMD presentation at UEFI Plugfest.

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

Yes you will need to install the apple drivers for win vista. When you boot from a cold start, have you tried holding down the option key to choose which OS to boot from? If you have then, you could try going into startup options from the mac side and choose win vista if it appears. That could be risky though, as you mentioned you do not have the mac install disk. If problems arise you may need the mac install disk to undo the changes.

Beats audio software missing after I installed windows 8.1
    my laptop: HP pavilion p011sv

    Hi @Boukou ,
    Thank you for your  inquiry.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 you no longer have the Beats Audio software.
You should be able to download an updated audio driver from HP Pavilion 15-p011sv Software & Drivers page .
This should reinstall your Beats software.
    Good Luck!

  • Cannot install Windows 7 32-bit using Boot Camp

I have one of the new iMacs (late 2012) and I can't install Windows 7 32-bit using Boot Camp. Whenever I try to being the installation using the Boot Camp Assistant, I always get the following message: "Need 64-bit Windows installation USB drive or DVD. Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use an USB drive or DVD which contains 64-bit Windows". I have successfully installed 32-bit Windows on my Macbook Pro that is running the same version of Mac OS X and Boot Camp, but I don't know why on this new iMac it doesn't allow me to. Apple's documentation states that I should be able to install either 32-bit and 64-bit without any problem, but this is not the case here. I can't find anything about this problem/error on the Internet either. HELP!!!

Yes, circumstances do change but if Apple is, as they claim to be, serious about seamlessly migrating what is still a large and dominant market share of users from Windows, supporting 32 bit versions is not a nice to have, but a must have.
I don't see why users have to make excuses when there is a clear shortfall of what is promised.
In other discussions, there is talk of an opportunity for Apple to make a significant impact, as Windows 8 has deviated so much from the comfort zone of traditional Windows users. But to make that change, Macs have to support what is still a primarily 32 bit environment in the installed base.
As for the use of VMs, I had a tough time migrating out of Parallels 6 after an upgrade to Mountain Lion broke compatibility so IMHO it is not a long term solution unless you are happy to hand out $50 every 2-3 years just to support the same functionality.
    Use Virtual Box, it's free.
32 bit may have a reasonable user base but it's going away fast, if you must use 32 bit Windows and won't use a VM your choice is limited.
Buy a PC, or buy an older Mac.
The rest of your post is speculative and I won't go there.

  • Installing Windows 7 64-bit - DVD won't boot

I recently downloaded the 64-bit version of Windows 7 from my school's MSDNAA page and burnt the ISO to a DVD. I had XP on a dual-boot setup to actually get the download, so I deleted the partition and decided to start fresh for Windows 7. When I went through the boot camp assistant it wouldn't boot from the DVD. If I use a program like rEFIt I can see the 'bootmgr.efi' as a volume to boot from, but when selected it gives me the error "Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi". Has anyone else come across anything like this? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hey,
I had problems when trying to install Windows 7 64-bit from a disk burned from an iso.
If you still have the iso file follow the instructions on this page - http://www.gopulls.com/blog/2009.08.26/install-windows-7-x64-on-a-mac-beat-the-s elect-cd-rom-boot-type-error/
    or this page - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2372797&tstart=45
Apparently the issue is something to do with the fact that the install disk has two boot sectors instead of one...this thread explains it better - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1867336
Hopefully it will work for you as it did for me!
