  • No Hard Disks found when installing

    Hi,
Because I have a new PC that has a motherboard that has a kind of RAID controller onboard that is not (yet) certified by Sun, I've been trying to install Solaris 8 on a somewhat older PC. It's a P133 with 96 MB RAM and a 2.5 GB HD (IDE).
Altough the Configuration Assistant finds my HD and CD ROM (and there are no conflicting devices), when the Web Start Solaris Installer looks for a hard disk, he reports: "No hard disks found on the system. Please see your documentation."
I've been trying to change parameters in the BIOS of my PC: set hard disk mode from LBA to CHS or Auto, but I keep getting the same result. What is also funny is that I can issue the 'format' command after the installer stopped. There I can use 'fdisk' and I can create x86boot and Solaris partitons as I like. (I cannot format them though.)
    What 's going wrong?
    Best regards,
    Dominiek

Did you try: destroying the "x86, Solaris" pair, re-booting, running installer, recreating "x86, Solaris" and re-starting the installer with "/usr/sbin/c0d0_isntall"? I have to do that EVERY time...
    HOWEVER !!
Your drive might have a drive manufacturer LBA scheme installed - which may not be compatible with your BIOS LBA scheme (docs can be found on www.westerndigital.com). Frequent disk errros is one symptom.
You should have the install disk for your particular hard-drive. It will indicate whether a drive-manufacturer LBA is installed. You BIOS setting is of course a separate issue.
    1) If you have an existing partition: * do not alter the LBA scheme *
    2) In general, partitions with an Operatitng system installed when LBA was enable must have the exact same LBA (by BIOS manufacturer, BIOS version, or hard-disk manufacturer) SUPPLIED AT EVERY BOOT. Some OS's ignore the BIOS's LBA offering.
    3) The LBA-written data is NON-REVERSIBLE. LBA written data is, in general, PER-PARTITION. You must do a complete backup, format, and restore to change you LBA scheme.
    4) If you don't know your complete LBA status - you should be concerned. In general, move away from LBA when the opportunity arises.
You might contact your motherboard manufacturer upon the matter of obtaining a BIOS upgrade. Also: what brand HD do you have?
    Hope that help,

  • Insufficient disk space when installing Weblogic 9.2MP3 on Solaris 9 or 10

Insufficient disk space when installing Weblogic 923 on Solaris 9 or 10 using bin file installer :
    bash-2.05$ ./server923_solaris32.bin -mode=console
** Insufficient disk space! The installer requires:
** 132MB for the BEA Home at /mnt/home2/i817284/sol_usphlcsx0003/wl92 and
    ** 664MB temporary work space at /var/tmp/aaa1baaJn.
** There is only 0MB available at /mnt/home2.
There are more than enough (several gigs) of free space in all those directories as verified by df -k...
Solution for jar file doesn't work, obviously ;)

bumping this up in hopes of an answer....
it appears that the jar installer works fine, the problem is with .bin installers only.....
in install docs found proposed solution of "use df compatible with used posix" - that must be a joke, right ??
we're supposed to replace df that comes with OS with some version that works with posix used by the installer ?? Really ?@?@?

  • The computer doesnt take Mac OS X disk 2 when installing tiger

the computer doesnt take Mac OS X disk 2 when installing tiger

Is it showing error message during GarageBand install?
If so, I had this type of problem, and solved it by restating computer in Safe Mode (to enter Safe Mode you should hold "Shift" button on start-up while Apple logo appears).
Only trouble for me - my MacBook display was so dim in Safe Mode, that was a problem to see anything on the screen. But still, there are only few buttons to click during 2nd disk setup and I guess that "dark safe mode screen" could be only Mac laptop problem.

    Hi @bodger50,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Deskjet 2542 gives you the error: 'the specified module could not be found' when installing to USB, on Windows XP.
I would recommend going through the steps in this post, Re: Install Error "The system cannot find the file specified" (hpzprl40.exe). When you get to the printer install wizard section, just use the full feature software and drivers found at this website, HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers. As the printer install wizard is only for Windows 7 and up.
Hope this is helpful, and thank you for posting!

  • No boot disk found when system is turned on

Hello all, and thanks in advance for answering my question. I booted my intel based iMac from an Ubuntu Linux live cd to install Linux to a partition that I had set aside using disk utility but did not end up installing Linux. When I restarted the computer after removing the Linux CD, the screen was white for a few seconds longer than normal and then an error message appears saying that now bootable volumes were found and please insert a bootable disk and so I put in the OS X install disk that came with the computer but it still refusies to boot and does not respond to key presses at power on so I cannot eject the OS X DVD. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Have you tried starting up while holding the Option Key? That will take you to startup manager and you can select the startup disk.
When you started from the OS X DVD, did you do that while holding the C key?
You can also do the PRAM reset by starting up while holding command-option-P-R keys.

  • Problem when installing Solaris 10

I've read that there is a post with the same problem I have, but I found no solution there.
So I made this tread, hoping someone willing to help me.
    OK, here is the story...
I have tried several times to install Solaris 10, from DVD to my laptop Dell Latitude C400.
(I've run the hardware compatibilty check routine, and it's OK except the video card)
After I made the partition, then rebooted using the DVD and the Solaris seems to load normally.
It apperas the Grub menu, then I choosed Solaris option.
But after that it just stops on a screen that says:
    SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_118844-26 32-bit
Copyright 1983-2005 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
And it just hangs, nothing more...
Any idea what should I do to install Solaris successfully...???
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Darren,
Thanks God I've succesfully installed Solaris 10 to my laptop, after "swimming" for a while in google :)
It said that this was a bug of Solaris 10 when installed in PC with Pentium III or II processors.
Here is the solutions (hope someone with same problem with me could find it useful) :
    1. After the GRUB menu appears, edit the kernel line then append -kd at the end (to enter kmdb upon boot), then boot
    2. Then type this command when kmdb prompt shows, [0]>
    [0]> cmi_no_init/W1
[0]> :c 3. It should boot and run without problem, then follow the installation menu and option
    4. After reboot, again follow step 1 & 2 when GRUB menu shows. I promise this is the last time :)
    5. To make it permanent, add this following instruction to */etc/system* once the system up
    set cmi_no_init=1//Henry

  • Hard disk problem after installing Solaris 10 u5 on a Sun Ultra 24

    Hi.
After receiving a new Sun Ultra 24, shipped with Solaris 10 u4, the first thing I did was installing Solaris 10 u5. X wouldn't start but that was not a big problem and installed it in text mode. Installation went fine but, when the system starts, a single beep is heard and after some seconds some warning message appear on the console, before the "Hostname: ..." message, informing that some read operation on my hard disk had timed out and were aborted. The system then starts up normally. The only other anomaly is that the diagnostic partition in unbootable.
I ran the hard disk tests from the tools and drivers CDs and all of the tests were passed. Solaris 10 u4 was working normally so I'm wondering if this may be a bug.
    Thanks for your help,
    Enrico.

Thanks anyway, I discovered what the problem was: a bug in Solaris 10 u5:

  • How to exclude X window portion when installing solaris 10 for x86

i am really a newbie to solaries,
i wanna install solaris for develop purpose,
but i don/t wanna include X window in system.
    what shall i do ?
    regards.

I use (and like) webmin to perform things on Solaris when I'm not familiar with the large admin command set.
    http://www.webmin.com/download.html
The 1.340 level has improved remarkably.
I share your interest in building Solaris 10 mini systems without X on vmware:
    - Security
    - Disk footprint
    - Service machine, without a need for a gui, and no need to develop X applications.
I'm still trying to find a good jump-start example for this purpose, because I don't need anything but the C locale, and the Asian fonts take up quite a bit of space.

  • Error 28 when installing Solaris

I'm installing Solaris through a CD. I get it to boot, then I get the GRUB menu. There, I see three options:
    1. Solaris
    2. Solaris ttya
    3. Solaris ttya( SFV60x and SFV65x )
I try the Solaris, an error just like this pops up:
    Booting 'Solaris'
    kernel /boot/multiroot kernel/unix -B install_media=cdrom
    [Multiboot-elf, <0x1000000:0x14b9b:0x393b5>, shtab=0x104e208, entry=0x1000000]
    modile /boot/x86.miniroot
Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory
I believe I have sufficient memory. When I boot up, it says I have ~320 MB RAM. I tried researching this error on the internet, and it's been asked a couple of times before. But none of them actually came up with a conclusion. I found links to these two bug reports, but I don't know how to interpret them in any way:
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6411177
    and
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6387379
Does anyone know how this problem could be solved? Thanks.

After a week of working, day-in day-out on attempting to install sun Solaris 10, on 3 different pcs and struggling with error 28 the cannot fit into memory I can suggest a fix to the madness. Get a Pentium 4 pc and the installation works.
Solaris 10 does not install on Pentium III even with 256 or more memory ex Gateway Pentium 3 pc is not working. It needs a higher processor. Thats just how the cookie crumbles.
I had no problem installing on Pentium 4 with 256 memory and the installation did even better on another Pentium 4 with 512 memory.
The minimums suggested are too low.

  • Weird things I found when installing J2ME

I downloaded a bundle of tools for J2ME: midp1.0.3 and cldc1.0. I use Windows 98 and Mandrake 9.2 separately in my PC.
I then tried to install J2ME into both, then here's what I found when I tried to run MIDlets:
    1. In Windows 98, I compiled my *.java by the command 'javac' and it worked.
Then, I had to preverify it before running the classes (the executables) on an
emulator, didn't I? But, when I preverified it, an error message came out, saying
Error loading class : illegal constant pool index.
    2. In Mandrake 9.2, I compiled my *.java by the command 'javac' and it worked.
Then, I preverified it, but this time, it worked. Wow! But then, when I ran it on an
emulator, an error message came out, saying
ALERT : Could not load required font
    Segmentation fault
Then, I copied these classes to Windows 98 C:\ direcory and guess what ...
when I ran then, it worked well on the emulator.
This is kinda funny. I now begin to write the Java code in Mandrake, compile it, preverify it, and then move the classes to Windows to run in its emulator.
Can someone help me out of this trouble? It seems so time-consuming to do this, doesn't it?

I ran into the same font problem using Suse 9.2. Some digging into the source code revealed that the midp application tries loading fonts in sizes 9, 11, and 15, which don't exist. The standard font sizes in Suse (at least for adobe-helvetica) are 8,10,12,14,18, and 24.
To fix this, edit midp2.0fcs/src/solaris/native/text.c. Around line 80, there is a line with:
    int height = "\011\013\017"[sizeKey];
For using slightly smaller fonts, change this to:
    int height = "\010\012\016"[sizeKey];
If you want to use slightly larger fonts (except for the large size, change it to):
    int height = "\012\014\017"[sizeKey];
Then go to build/linux/kvm, and run "make clean all". The generated kvm (build/linux/kvm/bin/kvm) works without errors for me.

  • No disks found on install, need driver?

    Hi All,
I have a Compaq/HP Proliant ML350 G2 server which I would like to install Solaris 10 onto. The install program says it cannot detect any disks and exits so I am guessing that it requires drivers.
The controller card is detected as this under Linux:
    scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 7.0
    <Adaptec (Compaq OEM) 3960D Ultra160 SCSI adapter>
    aic7899: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs
Can anyone please provide guidance as to how I can install Solaris onto the machine?
    Many thanks.

I am getting the following error message when I try to install Solaris 10 from cdrom:

The system I am trying to install to is a SunFire v100.
The boot command I am using is:
