No disk located when upgrading to 10.6

When i inserted the 10.6.3 disk and opened up the installer it brought me to a window to "select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X" but my disk doesnt show up (there is nothing in the box to select). I recently repaced the HDD and cloned the old drive to this one.  MacBook Pro 2.2 intel core 2 duo upgrading from 10.5.8

You should run Disk Utility and repair the hard drive, and then also repair its permissions. You may want to report back in this forum as to what the result of running Disk Utility was.
Yuo may be able to run Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard install DVD, by the way.
Also while in Disk Utility, check on the Partition Map Scheme of the entire drive and also check on the Format of the mounted volume. The Format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the Partition Map Scheme for an Intel machine needs to be GUID in order to install a new bootable OS. If the installer sees a different Partition Scheme such as Apple Partition Map, it may refuse to install there. I am guessing there is a chance you have an Apple Partition Map disk there.

  • Error not enough disk space when upgrading to SAP B1 8.8 PL14

    Hi,
I'm trying to do a test upgrade for a customer running SAP B1 2007.
When running the upgrade wizard for SAP B1 8.8 PL14 I'm having an issue with not enough diskspace for the backup.
In the help file it's says that you need about 3 times your company database and enough room for common and other upgrade files.
The company database is about 35GB
Tried putting it on a network drive with around 2000GB and it told me that there was not enough disk space...
Thought it had something to do with the network drive so I added a local disk with 400GB, still it tells me that there is not enough disk space, what to do?
I must also point out that I'm running this on a virtual server.
    Thank you
    BR,
    Anders

    HI Anders,
    You may try this,
    1. Take a back up of the db.
    2. Go to Sql and detach the database.
    3. Paste it in a drive with at least 5 times the space of your database (175 gb in your case.)
    4. Go To sql, attach the database with the new location in new drive.
    5. Perform upgrade.
    6. Once the db is upgraded, you may take a back up and follow steps 1 to 4 to bring it back to the original destination. Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Joseph

  • "could not access network location" when upgrading to iTunes 10

Hi, I really know nothing about computers, I'm sorry. I have tried to search for the answers myself but I don't understand much of the language and I'm not sure if I'm reading the appropriate information.
I wanted to update my iTunes on my computer (Windows XP) but it didn't seem to work when I looked for upgrades and clicked yes, I want to update. Nothing happened.
So I unistalled my old iTunes and tried to install the new iTunes 10. But when I did that, I got an error message, with the title of iTunes + QuickTime... saying... could not access network location.
I uninstalled Quicktime to see if that was the problem, and I tried to install iTunes 10 again and the same error message appeared "could not access network location".
From what I googled, it looked like I had to look at something in Run. I got to the specific location but didn't see any obvious errors. But then again, I really had no idea what I was looking at! What do I need to do?
    Please I need help (frustrated)!

I uninstalled Quicktime to see if that was the problem, and I tried to install iTunes 10 again and the same error message appeared "could not access network location".
Which location is being cited in the message, fyr? For example, is it %APPDATA% , or something else? (The location given in the message dictates how we go about trying to fix this ... I know of at least three different issues that can cause the 1606 error message on the install, and each requires a different treatment.)

  • Warrning about disk location when migrating from VMware to Hyper-V using SCVMM 2012 R2

    Hi
I have started migrating my servers from a VMware ESXi host 5.1 to a brand new Hyper-V 2012 R2 server using SCVMM wizard. I have completed a couple of migration, but my disks gets converted from SCSI to IDE. I get the warning below. The conversion works
and there should not be any performance issue because it is all virtual controllers. The thing is that I cannot expand my drives located on an IDE bus, but only on the servers where my drives is located on SCSI bus.
Is there a way to convert to SCSI controller directly from VMware?
    Thomas | MCP | http://www.techwork.dk

With Hyper-V, there is two types of Virtual Machines:
Genration1 VM : This type of VM can work with all Hyper-V versions. It uses legacy hardware, and the BOOT VHD must be connected to an IDE controller
Genration2 VM: Introduced with Windows Server 2012 R2. It uses only synthetic hardware, and the BOOT VHD is connected to a SCSI controller.
If you want your VM boot disk to be on an SCSI controller, you can convert your VM from GEN1 to GEN2
Look Here for more information about VM generations and how to convert them
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2014/03/05/details-on-generation-2-virtual-machines-and-using-them-in-vmm-2012-r2.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/jhoward/archive/2013/10/24/hyper-v-generation-2-virtual-machines-part-1.aspx
NB Once converted to GEN2, you will not able to go back to GEN1 (There are ways but they still complicated), so read carefully the PRO and CONS of each type

Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

  • Using Mailboxes on my computer when upgrading from Panther to Tiger

I'm getting ready to upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4 and want to avoid all the issues with Mail that I have been reading about. In the README on the installation disk it says:
"Using POP email accounts and On My Mac mailboxes in Tiger and Panther...
If you have a shared home folder and you access a POP email account using Mail in both Mac OS X Panther and Mac OS X Tiger, you will not see messages that you retrieve in one version when you switch to the other.
You will not see messages saved in a mailbox on your computer when you switch from one version to another. To avoid this problem, use separate home folders for each version of Mac OS X.
Your IMAP account will synchronize automatically when you switch between Mail in Tiger and Panther."
The question is – I am using an IMAP account and do not store my mesages on the server, but on my Mac. Obviously I want to be able to access all my old mail when I upgrade. How do I go about using separate Home Folders? And will doing this still enable me to access all my mail without switching back and forth between the 2 OS's?
    Thanks
    PB G4   Mac OS X (10.3.2)
    PB G4   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

If you install Tiger over Panther on the same partition, you will not have separate Home folders/directories.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger. I installed Tiger over Panther via an Archive & Install selecting preserve user and network settings without experiencing any problems with my Mail.app data or with anything else but I backed up my data beforehand just in case which is a good idea regardless. I used SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone of my hard drive with Panther installed saved to a Firewire drive before installing Tiger.
Most of the problems reported here with Mail.app data after upgrading to Tiger are from existing/underlying problems with Panther mbox files.
Before upgrading to Tiger, I didn't allow any mailbox to exceed 500MB or so in size and I used the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis. I used the Rebuild Mailbox function on all Panther Mail.app mailboxes before upgrading to Tiger. If you do this, you should be fine but a backup of the entire Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail is your insurance in case something goes wrong with the mbox conversion process to Tiger Mail with one or several mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive.
Be sure to check the hard drive for any directory problems with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from the Tiger retail install disc before proceeding with the installation. If any problems are reported and successfully repaired, run repair again until no problems are reported. Afterwards, it won't hurt to repair disk permissions from the same location.
Do this along with having a backup of all important data for insurance and you should be fine.

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • HT1229 What happens to photos in an album in iPhoto on Mac when upgrading to Yosemite.

What happens to all the photos in iPhoto when upgrading to Yosemite.  My pictures are in an album to be made into a photobook with Shutterfly  or another service but it is not entirely ready to go. I would not want to loose this album, took me a long time to gather all these pictures (over 200) , edit them and write captions. I understand that Yosemite will eliminate iPhoto.  However, I want to know if they will delete iPhoto even if I do not upgrade as yet.

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • "iPod Service Failed to Start" message when upgrading iTunes

When upgrading iTunes from Version 7 to the newest version, I got an error message stating "Service, 'iPod Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services." So I canceled the download and rolled back to Version 7 again. I did notice that now I'm getting an error message when I start up Version 7, stating that it could not start the iPod service. I just bought an ipod Classic and cannot use it without the latest version of iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:
9/23/2009 3:18:45 PM Blocked by Access Protection rule NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\iPod Service Common Maximum Protection:Prevent programs registering as a service Action blocked : Create
Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.

The solution I found was to uninstall/reinstall everything which depends on ghc:
    pacman -Qi ghc
    pacman -Rdd ghc haskell-mtl haskell-random haskell-syb haskell-transformers haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib <any other dependencies here>
    pacman -Syyu ghc haskell-mtl haskell-random haskell-syb haskell-transformers haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib <any other dependencies here>
Probably not ideal, but the digging I did to use ghc to fix the problem turned up nothing.
By the way, a litmus test to determine if your Haskell setup is sane:
    xmonad --recompile
    should not return any errors.

  • Can you save system settings scratch disks locations for each project?

When you begin a new project in FCE you need to set the System Settings Scratch Disks. Typically you would set a new folder for each project to keep all of your files for each project in one location for that project.
I have a couple of FCE projects going at the same time. I've set each project with a different system setting scratch disk location. But if I open a project which should have a unique scratch disk location folder that I've already set before for that project, it ignores the setting I set for that project and just shows the scratch disk setting for the last project opened instead. It does not appear to save or remember the unique setting for that project.
If you have multiple projects going at the same time, is there a way to save the systems settings scratch disk location for each project and have FCE remember that location for each project?

I turned off the Open Last Project on Application Launch in the User Preferences and it still does not remember the unique scratch disk settings for each project.
Since it is quite common to be working on multiple projects simultaneously, you would think that there would be a way in which to save the settings for each project to help keep all related files better organized.
    Any other suggestions?

    CJS-20060 error when upgrading SAP WEBAS640 SPS12

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade my current EP6.0 SPS10 environment to SPS12. But right now, I can't even get the sapinst to go past this one error after entering the path to the Java Cryptography Extension. After entering the path and clicking next, I get the following error message.
    ERROR 2005-10-20 09:45:09
CJS-20060 <html>You entered the instance number 0 on host tp1 for the JC instance.<p>In the SAP system TP1, an JC instance exists already with the instance number 00 on host wsawd03q.</html>
We are currently running Portal on an HA Environment. The SCS instance was installed on host sapgrp. The CI instance was installed on wsawd03q. I am currently upgrading the CI instance. I've tried using the SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME but it did not work and I don't believe its relevant because my CI does not use a virtual host name.
Please assist with this issue. Thank you very much in advance.
    Regards,
    Kiet Tran

    Hi,
This is a known problem which I think will be fixed in future versions of sapinst.
What you need to do is to move the profile files of the other system from /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profiles , to a temporary location untill the installation starts. You can then start the installation and move the files back at the same time.
Basically, sapinst doesn't truely realize that you are installing on a virtual host, and therefore believes there is a conflict
PS you must use the SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME parameter if you have a virtual host.
    Cheers

  • Previous version of an application will be deleted(replaced) when upgrading to a newer version ?

As the subject clearly states: what happens to old version of an app when upgraded to a newer version ?
does it works like the iphone app.. the old will be replaced with the newer or does the application file keep all the files including previous things?
If so, is it better to restore macbook pro rarely ?
    thanx a lot

The old version is uninstalled and the new version is installed.
I can't think of a reason to ever do a restore other than before selling it.
Even for a failed and replaced hard disk I would reload from my most recent backup.
