No Disk Space and Now a Blue Screen...

help! my macbook pro warned me that it had no disk space left. I deleted some files and then restarted the computer. Now it will not turn back on completely. Will only show a Blue Screen...

The following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running 10.7 or later) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.
If you see a blue screen at startup

  • Updated to snow leopard and now get blue screen

    Hi there,
I recently updated to snow leopard and now I get blue screen on start-up.
I manage to get to enter my password and then to my desktop for a few seconds before it flicks back to my login.
I tried using disk utility from the install disc and it said HD appears to be ok. But it hasn't solved the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • HT1750 i decide to upgrade to the OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough hard disk space and now I cant do anything. How do I revert to the previous version to make more space on the HD?

I decided to upgrade to OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough HD space. Now I cannot do anything with the upgrade. How can I revert to the previous OS X to free up more space on the HD?

You can't. It's already downloaded and filled the drive. The only option is to erase and reinstall.
You may be able to Target Disk Mode if you can connect the Mac to another with FireWire or Thunderbolt Cables (USB will not work and it cannot be connected to a windows PC)
Do you have a Time Machine Backup?
If not best option is getting it in somewhere where they can transfer the data you need off before Erase and Reinstalling OS.
Unless there is nothing on the Machine you need anymore that is, in which case you may be able to Erase in Recovery. It May not work though, if the Disk is too full.

  • Pls help: I can't start my mac because I took too much space and now the disk doesn't mount

I am most certain that this is the case: foolishly, I didnt leave much free space and now the disk doesnt want to mount. I tried the single user mode, I also booted from DVD, they appear but the disk utility shows the disk but I cannot repair the disk, because it is unmounted. I tried the basic commands in single user mode, no effect either. I still cant get over the blue screen with the apple logo and a circle running. I need to free up some spasce. Unforetunately, important  files were not backedup, so I really cant delete the whole disk. I need to delete specific files.
I came across this in a post:
/sbin/fsck -yf (optional, but a good idea to run a file system check. If you do this, repeat this command if any problems are found.)
/sbin/mount -uw / anables to read and write via the single user mode
    /usr/bin/cd /Library/Audio
    /bin/rm -R Apple\ Loops  - rm is remove
(and any other deletions that you need to do here)
    /sbin/reboot
The troulbe is, I dont know where are my big files located - so, how do I orientate myself among the folders? Lets say I would delete my itunes libary, which I would later on renew thanks to the back/up, how would I delete them?
Thank you very much for any advice. I really need to make it work.

Probably some error in typing. Copy the command line from Terminal and post it here, exactly as it is.
a way to install applejack or someother helpful software?
AppleJack only works on the boot disk, and only in single-user mode. IMHO, if there is a space or corruption issue on the disk, the last thing you want to do is to install new software on it.
DU once I select repair disk reports ''it could not unmount'' the disk.
If you chose the right disk, you probably have some process using files on the disk or referencing the disk. For instance, if you have Terminal open and present working directory is on the disk, DU will refuse to unmount it. Make sure you've quit all other apps before using DU. If it still refuses to unmount, you can force it in Terminal
    $ diskutil unmountDisk force
and drag the disk from Finder to the Terminal window (there's a blank space after force).
could I somehow use time machine just for my original disk?
I don't know about Time Machine. I suspect you can't use it under your circumstances, but I really don't know.
how to force through adn delete some folders? I still believe that it should solve the problem, shouldnt it?
Not all problems have convenient solutions. If the file system is corrupt (which could well happen when running out of space, let alone the fact that you couldn't boot from the disk and thus the journal couldn't be replayed), then deleting files may not work or may make matters worse. We still don't know why you couldn't boot from the internal disk. It may be because there isn't enough space to create the necessary temp and ancillary files—or it may be because the file system was badly corrupted when the operating system ran out of space.
If you want to stick with it, post here the rm command, as I wrote above. It may or may not work, it may or may not delete the files you want to delete, which may or may not fix the problem. There's no guarantee. It you want to do it right, the only way is to back up everything you can and re-format the internal drive.

  • I tried creating a startup backup via Disk Utility.  There wasn't enough space and now I have no internal disk space. How do I fix this?

I used DIsk Utility to create a startup backup clone for the first time yesterday.  I cloned it to my internal drive on my Mac.  I let it run all night and when I woke up this morning it showed it as failed (not enough disk space).  Now when I boot up my Mac, it showed a warning at the login screen (not enough disk space at startup).  I do not have an external hard drive (which is why I chose to backup internally).  Do I need to purchase one?
It still allows me to log in.  When I open Finder and look at my internal drive, it shows less than 100.00 MB space available.  I tried deleting a bunch of old files and stripped needless apps.  However, it keeps showing my computer as having less than 100 MB of storage.
Is there a way to find the failed clone backup and delete it?  I tried looking in Spotlight for the backup clone (I named it 4-21-14.dmg).  I cannot find the file.  I was hoping to backup my files so I can install OS Mavericks on my computer (mid-2010 Macbook Pro), but I do not have enough free space.

I solved the problem by deleting over 100 gb of files and apps.  I would have rather not gone that route, but having less than 100 MB of storage is an unacceptable headache to deal with.  Now I have to decide on whether to try again with the backup internally route or risk it and download/install Mavericks.

  • I used the "erase free space " option in disk utility and now my imac says the disk is full and wont let me download songs. please help!

i used the "erase free space " option in disk utility and now my imac says the disk is full and wont let me download songs. please help!

You could try repairing permissions with disk utility, I don't think you will have the option to repair the drive but you could verify it.
This may help you delete the files that DU made but did not remove when erasing the free space.

When you get your SL disk it will not have the iLife applications, that would have been on the second install disk that should have been with the computer. I forget which version of iLife you will need for SL but I think it is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-iLife-Single-User-Mac/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1409607702&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+ilife+11
A search of the forums will confirm or deny this.
As to whether a clean install will cure your problem, i.e. partition the HDD and install I would expect it to be yes, but there are no guarantees it is an old machine.

Blue screen of death? I just updated my MacBook Air with the latest OX (25 Jun 11). When I restart - I get the Apple logo and then a blue screen and nothing else. Help!!!

Insert the install disk and press c on startup. Select your langauge then, if there's a menubar click utilities then click Disk Utility. If you didn't see the menubar continue with the installer until you see it.
Once in disk utitly select the drive and repair permissions.
After the repair is done, quit the utiltiy.
You can try to reboot and see if it works if you reboot, but if it doesn't repeat the same as before again.
Now you can continue with the installer and install the os.
    Quit

  • Relocated original files to desktop (on low disk space) and lost photos?

Help! My wife and I exchanged our vows on the Napali Coast and we lost our photos...
    2006 Macbook, iphoto06:
As I was importing our 200 photos from the hike, my computer warned me that I was running out of disk space and stopped before finishing the load. I regretfully opted to delete the photos from the camera as it imported (bummer). The photos were safe in my iphoto library when I returned the following day and cleared some disk space on my hard drive. I then imported the remaining photos and everything looked normal.
Here's where it gets weird. So I was looking at a photo and accidently deleted it from the iphoto library. I located the original file and reimported it, however the computer told me that I already had the photo in the library. I looked into help and followed the instructions to drag the rolls onto my desktop and reimport them into iphoto. I did this and consequently lost some 50 very special photos. Now the iphoto library had this giant gap filled with grey !!!'s where the photos were. I looked into the original rolls folders and found a number of the original files were now missing? Something obviously happened from me having moved the files from the originals folder to the desktop. When I returned to iphoto, I recieved a warning that I was running out of diskspace again and some of the recent changes may have been lost!
I have searched for the files according to their file numbers (from the missing thumbnail) and the files are not coming up on my search. The original files are not in the trash either?
    My questions:
    1. Is there any way to trace the history of my actions and undo my actions or salvage my files?
    2. The images still appear in my iphoto library thumbnails when scrolling down the screen (briefly before turning to grey !'s). Can I somehow salvage the image from the thumbnails?
    3. Do I have to find the original files to see the photos again?
I have learned to not mess with orignial files in iphoto, never delete when importng, and always have mucho diskspace when uploading.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Will and Julia in Kauai

As I was importing our 200 photos from the hike, my computer warned me that I was running out of disk space and stopped before finishing the load.
You should always have a minimum of 10 GB of free space on your boot hard drive for safe and proper operation of your computer. you must get at least that much free space to go forward
I regretfully opted to delete the photos from the camera as it imported (bummer).
It is recommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - wait until they are imported and tested (I wait for a backup cycle or two myself) and then use the camera to format the memory card - this will save you from many problems and reformats you card with every use which eliminates other issues
The photos were safe in my iphoto library when I returned the following day and cleared some disk space on my hard drive. I then imported the remaining photos and everything looked normal.
Here's where it gets weird. So I was looking at a photo and accidently deleted it from the iphoto library.
How did you do this? using iPhoto or using the finder?
I located the original file and reimported it, however the computer told me that I already had the photo in the library. I looked into help and followed the instructions to drag the rolls onto my desktop and reimport them into iphoto. I did this and consequently lost some 50 very special photos. Again until you have a minimum of 10BG of free space you are risking many additional problems with your total system including iPhoto
I have searched for the files according to their file numbers (from the missing thumbnail) and the files are not coming up on my search. The original files are not in the trash either?
    My questions:
    1. Is there any way to trace the history of my actions and undo my actions or salvage my files?
No - but you may be able to recover the photos on your camera card using program like media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the trial version will tell you what is available for recovery
    2. The images still appear in my iphoto library thumbnails when scrolling down the screen (briefly before turning to grey !'s). Can I somehow salvage the image from the thumbnails?
    no
    3. Do I have to find the original files to see the photos again?
Yes - either on your computer or on your camera media card
I have learned to not mess with orignial files in iphoto,
Yes - that is critical - doing so is likely to lose data and possibly photos
    never delete when importng,
    That is strongly recommended
and always have mucho diskspace when uploading.
    Yes - 10GB minimum

    Hi ..
    Reset the device:

If that doesn't help, restore the iPad >  Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Error msg when I compact: The folder 'Inbox' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify you have enough disk space, and have write privileg

I recently had my computer serviced. I re-downloaded Thunderbird (getting a newer version), and retrieved my saved email. Now, Thunderbird keeps asking me to compact, but when I do, I get this error message:
The folder 'Inbox' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.
Obviously, since I'm getting mail all the time, I have write privileges, and disk space. The question is whether there's a setting I need to specify, or whether Thunderbird is writing to a special partition that may have gotten write-protected when my computer was in the hospital - or whether this is related to a known bug.
    All help appreciated.

The only know bug I can see is probably your anti virus is trying to scan the file when the new inbox is created leaving Thunderbird to think the file was not created.
As an experimental / diagnostic process. Restart the machine in safe mode with networking using Microsoft instructions for [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7] then try the compact. If it works I was most likely right. If it does not, another idea must surface.

  • Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium Disk space and Permission Errors

Win7 clean install, Dual Core 3.0, 4gigs ram, Audigy Sound Card, nvidia 8800 GT video card, 600 gig HD space, no anti virus, no firewall, no other programs installed.
Download manager and alteritive method both result in extration error " A problem occured while extracting some files. Check avaibile diskm space on your computer and write priveleges on destination folder ". A whole week of trying to sort this out but no joy. Adobe tech says D/L file directly to C: trying that now but has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

D/L from another location and onto different computer, extracted the
file with Winrar from the root drive not from a user account and Bingo
not corrupt files. Then moved then to the host machine and installation
work perfectly.  That took a week and a bit to figure and I hope
others can benefit from my experience.  ( In Adobe Ninerva now ! )

  • I put my macbook into target disk mode and now it won't start up in regular mode

I put my macbook into target disk mode and now it won't start up in OSX. I have used my install disk and repaired the drive. I have held down the option key to choose the system. I have tried to start in safe mode with same result. The apple screen appears, but the gear just keeps turning. I can get it back into target disk mode by connecting it by firewaire to my macbook pro. It will start up in Windows when I choose that system. What can I do to get it to start up with OSX?
    Thanks for your help.

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

I placed the movie tangled in the disk slot and now it will not eject

I suggest taking it back to Best Buy. Once it has been opened, Apple will not handle the phone. Best Buy or another 3rd party are your only choices. Best Buy probably made an error when replacing the screen. Understand they are not an authorized Apple Service Center.

  • SB Live ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen

;SB Li've ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen+ hi! i have installed windows seven 64 bit build 7600 RTM on my PC and i wanted to install also my USB sound card which is SB Li've ! 24 bit and i downloaded the beta drivers from creative. instalation was really fast and smooth but at the end i've got a message that the program has stopped to response and i have closed it. i did a system reboot and i have seen that the sound card has been installes succesfull and also the control panel. Sound was clear and really nice, all worked fine but sometimes im getting a blue screen on my windows with a code STOP 0x000000E and then a file named usbuhc.sys was the problem. i think that the sound card is the thing that is doing the blue screen becouse i have only a keyboard, mouse and the sound card SB Li've ! installed as USB.
Is it normal that i have those troubles on my PC ? is it my sound card my windows seven problem ? what should i do now ?
at the moment i have turned off the sound card so i will see if i get a blue screen or not.
