No disks found on install, need driver?

Hi All,
I have a Compaq/HP Proliant ML350 G2 server which I would like to install Solaris 10 onto. The install program says it cannot detect any disks and exits so I am guessing that it requires drivers.
The controller card is detected as this under Linux:
scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 7.0
<Adaptec (Compaq OEM) 3960D Ultra160 SCSI adapter>
aic7899: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs
Can anyone please provide guidance as to how I can install Solaris onto the machine?
Many thanks.

Hi,
Check your system configuration with solaris hardware compatibility list.

  • No Hard Disks found when installing

    Hi,
Because I have a new PC that has a motherboard that has a kind of RAID controller onboard that is not (yet) certified by Sun, I've been trying to install Solaris 8 on a somewhat older PC. It's a P133 with 96 MB RAM and a 2.5 GB HD (IDE).
Altough the Configuration Assistant finds my HD and CD ROM (and there are no conflicting devices), when the Web Start Solaris Installer looks for a hard disk, he reports: "No hard disks found on the system. Please see your documentation."
I've been trying to change parameters in the BIOS of my PC: set hard disk mode from LBA to CHS or Auto, but I keep getting the same result. What is also funny is that I can issue the 'format' command after the installer stopped. There I can use 'fdisk' and I can create x86boot and Solaris partitons as I like. (I cannot format them though.)
    What 's going wrong?
    Best regards,
    Dominiek

Did you try: destroying the "x86, Solaris" pair, re-booting, running installer, recreating "x86, Solaris" and re-starting the installer with "/usr/sbin/c0d0_isntall"? I have to do that EVERY time...
    HOWEVER !!
Your drive might have a drive manufacturer LBA scheme installed - which may not be compatible with your BIOS LBA scheme (docs can be found on www.westerndigital.com). Frequent disk errros is one symptom.
You should have the install disk for your particular hard-drive. It will indicate whether a drive-manufacturer LBA is installed. You BIOS setting is of course a separate issue.
    1) If you have an existing partition: * do not alter the LBA scheme *
    2) In general, partitions with an Operatitng system installed when LBA was enable must have the exact same LBA (by BIOS manufacturer, BIOS version, or hard-disk manufacturer) SUPPLIED AT EVERY BOOT. Some OS's ignore the BIOS's LBA offering.
    3) The LBA-written data is NON-REVERSIBLE. LBA written data is, in general, PER-PARTITION. You must do a complete backup, format, and restore to change you LBA scheme.
    4) If you don't know your complete LBA status - you should be concerned. In general, move away from LBA when the opportunity arises.
You might contact your motherboard manufacturer upon the matter of obtaining a BIOS upgrade. Also: what brand HD do you have?
    Hope that help,
         john

  • New disk and Leopard install, need existing .Mac iDisk files

I just had to replace my hard drive in my Macbook. So, my Macbook has a fresh install of OS X (NOT a restore from backup). Most of my important files are on my .Mac (now MobileMe) iDisk. I would like to just mount my iDisk, and let all the files on the server populate the local copy on my new disk.
However, some time ago, I seem to recall that when I used System Prefs to "Start" the iDisk Sync for the first time on a new machine, the result was that my new machine's "empty" iDisk tried to replace (erase) the one at .Mac. How do I safely enable iDisk Sync so that my local iDisk receives a copy of my .Mac's iDisk, and not the other way around?

While someone here might have the answer, you will probably get one quicker in the mobileme sync forum here:

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

Lion creates a Recovery partition on your harddrive. You will need to boot from startup.

  • Can Apple Hardware Test disk work when a hard drive has no OS installed yet

I removed a bad original hard drive from a PowerBook G4 12" aluminum notebook. It made clicking sounds as it ran, and would not boot. I replaced it with a 320GB Western Digital HD. I also upgraded the original 512KB memory with 1GB.
Before removing the bad hard drive, I was able to boot just beyond the language selection dialog from a full installation CD (Mac OS X v10.2) while holding the "C" key during power on, but could not install it, of course, on the bad hard drive.
Now with new hard drive replacement in the PowerBook (formatted via fire wire from a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard) and the upgraded memory, I ran a Disk Utility check via fire wire and found the new hard drive in the PowerBook to be in good working order and ready for an OS installation. However I can no longer boot the PowerBook G4 with the full installation CD in the customary manner, getting instead the flashing question mark over the finder folder icon.
I decided to see if there might be some other problem by using a PowerBook G4 Apple Hardware Test disk. Upon booting from the test disk, I get a message that declares the disk will not work with the PowerBook G4 machine.
    What's up?

There's more to my original question than whats on the face of it. Please read more about this below. However, I will still wish to know if an AHT, say an original one if that's important, will do it's thing when no OS is installed.
Pretty sure that I'm NOT using either disk or sets of disks that came with this G4 PB. Included among what I do have are 6 grey disks:
    __PB G4 Software Restore 1
    __PB G4 Software Restore 2
    __PB G4 Software Restore 3
    __PB G4 Mac OS 9 Install v9.2.2
    __PB G4 Mac OS X Install v10.1.4
    __PB G4 Applications
And 2 Jaguar full install DVDs:
    __Mac OS X v10.2 Install Disc 1
    __Mac OS X v10.2 Install Disc 2
I was hoping to be able to find something useful among these disks - if not in a strait forward manner, them by some manner of hacking.
I know how to use my MacBook Pro create a disk image that will house any number of these DVDs. My thought is to create something that can be cloned to the PB G4 via fire wire. I just need to be sure how to daisy chain multiple DVDs in terminal mode, if more than one DVD is required in the cloning process.
I have placed an order for Leopard 10.5 - full installation DVD direct from Apple.
Once received, I will have 14 days to return it unopened. So, I want to be sure this PB G4 is operable before I break the seal on the Leopard package.
Therefore it's not so important that I clone everything from the original installation - just enough to see that the PB G4 boots and runs in Finder. If I can achieve that much, I will advance with Leopard 10.5 when it arrives.
    My *PROCESSOR SPEED* is 1.33GHz
    Other original specs:
    L2 Cache 512 KB
    Memory 512 MB
    Bus Speed 167 MHz
    Boot ROMV 4.8.3f1
    Memory Slot 256 MB DDR-SDRAM

  • Installing Solaris 9 on HP ML350 G5 server - No disks found

Some weeks ago I've post a topic about problem with installing Solaris 10 on HP ML350 G5 server.
OK, it have been solved. Thanks!
But now I need to install Solaris 9 on this server. The problem is same - No disks found.
    I can't find drivers for Smart Array e200i 128Mb v.1.66 (disk controller installed on ML350 G5) for Solaris 9.
Can you help me? Thanks in advance.

Find a contact e-mail address on HP's website and ask them if the driver is available for Solaris 9.

  • Installing Solaris 10 on HP ML350 G5 server - No disks found

    I get no disks found.
I cant find drivers for Smart Array e200i 128Mb v.1.66 (disk controller installed on ML350 G5) on HP site or anywhere else.
Has anyone had success in installing Solaris on ML350 G5 server?
    Help me, please!

Common problem. The HP storage controller driver, cpqary3, is not included in the Solaris 10 install media.
    [Download it here|http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1121486&swItem=MTX-2eef9b53d2194136a514218995&prodNameId=3288144&swEnvOID=2023&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=2]
One of the files included in the bundle is a .iso, which you'll need to burn to a CD. Then, when the installer gets to the first menu, select "Apply driver updates" and insert the cpqary3 CD. After the installer has loaded the drivers into the running kernel, pop the driver media out and re-insert the Solaris install media. Continue as normal.

  • After installing an SSD into my optical bay, I've found out I need EFI Firmware Update 2.2. I can only find 2.3 which is not supported on my Mac. What can I do?

After installing an SSD into my optical bay, I've found out I need EFI Firmware Update 2.2. I can only find 2.3 which is not supported on my Mac. What can I do?

You do not want EFI 2.2, it bricked many 2011 MacBook Pro machines.
EFI 2.3 is the fix. Software Update should install it if you need it, but it goes to the boot drive as that's where the hidden EFI resides.
Check out this link of machines and their EFI versions
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
Also if your SSD should be in the hard drive bay as it makes a better boot/applicaitions drive, not a good storage drive as it wears out with repeated use and is not "scrubbable" like a regular hard drive
The hard drive should be in the optical bay and used as a storage drive, you have things all messed up inside your machine, Apple doesn't support or expect the optical drive to be used as such to begin with, then as a boot drive is just asking for trouble. So use the optical bay as storage and not as a boot bay.
Also you can't install OS X or Windows or use a Firmware restore disk because it only works from a internal optical drive, which you have removed.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2213
You need to learn all about cloning etc., as you have no other means to boot the machine.

  • The Volume Disk was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.

The Volume Disk was found corrupt and needs to be repaired. How can i fix this problem.

AHT will not scan for or find bad disk drive sector blocks, it might tell you your SATA chip.... no it won't do that either.... <g>
In a perfect universe Disk Utility First Aid, run from another hard drive ideally, or lacking that run from DVD. The shift key is suppose to check the drive journal and directory for out of sync errors and delete and rebuild extension and other system caches.
But you might want to backup first, and you could install OS X on another drive for one thing, or try using Disk Utility : Restore tab to make a full system copy of everything to another hard drive.
Why not jus point to "Disk Utility startup"

  • After I upgraded to Yosemite iphoto can't recognize my backup CDs which were created in iLife09. Ihave the original applications install disk and my old hard drive(I upgraded  to SSD). How do I get a n iphoto back to read by old CDs?

After I upgraded to Yosemite,iPhoto can't recognize my backup CDs created in iLife 09. The applications install disk won't install iphoto because iphoto 9.5 is already installed..I updated to a SSD and have the original Hard Drive with an updated iphoto which recognized the older CDs(thanks to iphoto expander). I thought that the iphoto that transferred with the new hard drive was the same as what was on the old one. I guess it wasn't. I really need to access my backups.   HELP

Later version of iPhoto write to the library on opening, and so cannot open libraries on optical media, as that cannot be written to. Further, optical media is going e way of the floppy disk. Therefore, you need to use a different form of archiving and back up going forward.
To allow iPhoto to open these libraries you need to copy them to your Mac or an attached external disk.
To merge them into an existing Library will require that you use either Aperture (if you have it) or iPhoto Library Manager.
