No disks found. Solaris 10.

When i have tried install Solaris 10 on my laptop HP dv 6000 i have received this message "no disks found. chceck to make sure are cabled and powered up." what can i do? Maybe i should mount the disc? But i dont know how, i tried but i had a problem witch this, it is different than mount disk at Linux.

I was able to install Solaris 10 on a hp dv6000 as a dual boot system with Microsoft Vista. After installation I had two problems.
1) GRUB seems to have changed the Disk Signature in the MBR making Vista unbootable. See:
www.multibooters.co.uk/mbr.html.
I found a possible solution at: http://blogs.sun.com/moinakg/entry/vista_and_solaris_express_dual
but haven't tried it yet.
2)Installing the Patches hung the system and made Solaris 10 unbootable. I haven't tracked down which patch was responsible.

  • "No Disk Found" error during installation of Solaris 10[11/06] on HP 6710b

    Hallo Guys,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on my HP 6710b lap top but it fails with "No Disk Found" error.
I used "Solaris 10 support tool" to check my system and it reports that my system is supported.
You can find the report bellow. I am sure that my disk is OK and I am also using "CD-ROM" option in BIOS for installing solaris from my Solaris DVD.
I have also updated the drivers using "CPQary3-1.71-solaris10-i386".
    Please help me.
    Thanks,

  • Solaris 10 installation gives error "No disk Found"

During the installation of Solaris 10 on dell XPS400, it gives error that says no Disk found:
I have already partitioned by disk in the following manner:
1st partition: 30 GB: NTFS (WIn XP installed)
2nd Partiion: 20 GB: NTFS (data)
    3rd Partition: 25GB: RAW
is there any special setting that I need to do for Solaris to detect the hard disk.
    Please help!

I do not think you need a driver for the disk.
... you need to reconfigure your system with respect to the DISK CONTROLLER.
Solaris 10 "doesn't do Serial ATA very well".
Search the forum, keyword sata and then read and read and read.
I believe you need to reconfigure something in the PC's BIOS.
However, that may have an impact on how well your current install of WinXP works.
So, I suggest you just go get an additional disk, a conventional IDE drive (not a SATA disk),
and install to that new drive instead.
Then you choose whichever device you want as the boot drive each time you power it on.
... or just go get an older, used computer and dedicate it to operating systems other than Windows. Leave the Dell system alone.
Install... erase ... install something else ... erase ...
    etc, etc, etc

  • Installing Solaris 9 on HP ML350 G5 server - No disks found

Some weeks ago I've post a topic about problem with installing Solaris 10 on HP ML350 G5 server.
OK, it have been solved. Thanks!
But now I need to install Solaris 9 on this server. The problem is same - No disks found.
    I can't find drivers for Smart Array e200i 128Mb v.1.66 (disk controller installed on ML350 G5) for Solaris 9.
Can you help me? Thanks in advance.

Find a contact e-mail address on HP's website and ask them if the driver is available for Solaris 9.

  • Installing Solaris 10 on HP ML350 G5 server - No disks found

    I get no disks found.
I cant find drivers for Smart Array e200i 128Mb v.1.66 (disk controller installed on ML350 G5) on HP site or anywhere else.
Has anyone had success in installing Solaris on ML350 G5 server?
    Help me, please!

Common problem. The HP storage controller driver, cpqary3, is not included in the Solaris 10 install media.
    [Download it here|http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1121486&swItem=MTX-2eef9b53d2194136a514218995&prodNameId=3288144&swEnvOID=2023&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=2]
One of the files included in the bundle is a .iso, which you'll need to burn to a CD. Then, when the installer gets to the first menu, select "Apply driver updates" and insert the cpqary3 CD. After the installer has loaded the drivers into the running kernel, pop the driver media out and re-insert the Solaris install media. Continue as normal.

  • Error No disks Found during Solaris 10 installation

    Hi,
i am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 on an Ml370 server that we bought. during the installation it gives the error No Disks Found. how can i correct this problem?

    One question:
Does this server ,ML370 G5, support Solaris in 64 bit mode?
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/systems/details/1891.html doesn't indicate if it is certified for 64 bits.
and http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/493913-0-0-0-121.html indicates ony 32 bits.

  • Solaris 10 "No disks found!" -- but disks are, indeed, there!

I am attempting to install Solaris 10 on an E450. I have 4 18G SCSI disks installed in the E450.
When I boot from the install cd (Solaris 10 Install Disk 1), it boots up just fine, and I go through the initial configuration menu (networking, name service, kerberos, etc.), and when it gets to "Configuring System", it stops at 4% with the error "No Disks Found! Please make sure your drives are properly cabled and powered up.".
Clicking "OK" drops me into a terminal window. Running format at this point show all the drives are, indeed, there. I have reformatted and repartitioned the drives, but all to no avail.
Any ideas? Any/all help is MOST appreciated!

    Found the answer!!!!
Seems that the Solaris installer doesnt understand EFI labels, and if (like me) you have been playing around with linux / freebsd ultrasparc ports, you may have inadvertently removed the backup partition (which spans the entire drive, 3rd partiton).
Without this format thinks its dealing with an EFI disk, and you can label it till the cows come home, the installer just doesnt want to know.
    The answer is:
    'format -e'
    select the drive
    'label'
    select SMI
dont choose format.dat (unless it contains your drive .. unlikely)
    choose SCSI 2 autodetect.
    partition as per admin manual.
You may also have to do an 'installboot ...etc etc.."<br /><a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5093/6mkisoq39?a=view" target="_blank">http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5093/6mkisoq39?a=view</a><br /><br />explains it<br /><br />I can now install Solaris 10<br /><br />The Sproggg<br /><br />PS:<br />I reckon that a brand new drive might need the same treatment.... YMMV<br /><br />PPS:<br />if your disks are over 2 tb they have to use the EFI labelling method ... if you have these you can afford your own sun support contract to figure it out....

  • Solaris 10 - "No Disks found"

I have a Sun Ultra 60, and I recently downloaded the four ISO images for Sun Solaris 10. The installation begins without problems, but after I select the installation media (CD/DVD), I get an error that says:
"No Disks found. Check to make sure disks are powered up."
I know the disk is powered and connected (I can hear it), OBP can see it, and when I type "probe-scsi," it returns my hard disk and cd-rom drive.
What should I be doing differently?

    format keeps giving me
    Segmentation Fault.
Format in Opensolaris sees the disk as a single partition, but returns seg.fault
The disk is formatted with ext2.
I tried making up a Sun Label partition (=the whole disk) with fdisk on a Linux, but the result with Opensolaris format is the same.
    I tried
    boot -s
    fdisk <what device here???>
Does fdisk in Linux remove everything or is it that having formatted my disk with ext2 has destroyed the good Sun Label.
Is it possible to erase everything. What would format do then?
Why booting the flash-update on a cdrom and usb-key doesn't work? Why is that OBP-image twice the size of a floppy disk, so that I cannot use floppy to boot it?

  • Solaris 7 install 'no disk found'

    Good day,
I'm trying to install Solaris 7 on a Sun Ultra5. However it gets part way through the install then it displays an error message "'no disks found' - please check that all disks are cabled and powered".
I have tried a couple of different disks and a variety of disk packs, (models 611, 711, 911).
There's probably an obvious reason but I have exhausted all ideas thus far, so I apologise if this problem is a little simple : )
    TIA

    Try these comments:
Are they Sun disks, if so, reformat and try install again
if not Sun disks, you need to go to the manufactures website to get the make up of the disk, ie, block, sectors etc then use the 'type' command within format to create the disk.
are the devices set to cable select?
have you tried new ide cables?

Did you check that your compaq machine has a Solaris supported disk controller?

Does the vendor (Compaq / HP) provide drivers for the disk controller, in case the standard stuff included
with Solaris doesn't support the disk controller?

What device are you trying to use as a virtual disk? I think you are exporting a pseudo
device volume (ZFS or SVM volume?). In such a case that volume is exported as a
single slice disk (disk with only a s0 slice) and the Solaris installer is not able to handle
    such a disk.
