No display after sleep with macmini using DVI - S-video/composite under XP

Hi guys, I have installed XP on my mini. I have CRT TV so I'm using
DVI -> S-video/composite to output to my TV.
The problem is after sleep - there is no display (it's woking only after reset).
I installed the latest drivers from the mac os 10.5 DVD & updated the graphics driver from Intel.
Please help

Unfortunately, no answer, as I'm having the similar problem with a Samsung SyncMaster 215tw and a G4 Mini. It works with the DVI-VGA adapter and the VGA cable into the montor's VGA port. However, connecting with the G$ Mini's DVI port with the monitor's DVI port using a DVI cable doesn't work. I cannot figure out why this doesn't work.
The DVI cable is good and the monitor's DVI port is good, as the connection does work using my friend's Intel Mini's DVI port connected to the monitor's DVI port using the DVI cable.
The monitor is new, too, and otherwise works fine with my other Macs connected with the VGA port. (I've not tried the additional ports as yet.)
Although the monitor is supposed to synchroize automatically, I also tried manually presetting the G4 Mini to different resolutions, but that didn't make any difference. The screen remains black when it should be showing the booting Apple icon.
Any idea what is going wrong here, please, as it sounds as if this same thing occurs with various monitors?

  • Not detecting tv display when connected with Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapte

I am connecting my macbook to my older tv using a Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter to an RCA (yellow video prong) and then into the tv. The red and white audio prongs hang loose, not hooked into anything on both ends. When I go into Displays there is no option for mirroring displays. I hit 'detect displays' but nothing happens. The Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter is brand new, just ordered it from apple. And I use the RCA cord all the time with other machines into my tv and it works fine.
Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Which generation MacBook do you have because at some point Apple dropped support for that adapter. Here is a link to a list of Apple adapters and compatible computer models:

  • MBA not always recognizes external display after sleep

    Hi,
I have a 2011 MBA and use it on a external display (Dell 2709w) with the lid open. The issue with this MBA is that after sleep it often (every second time I wake it up) doesn't show anything on my external monitor. In order that the external monitor works again I have to plug the DVI cord out and in or press recognize monitors under monitor settings.
I also did a PMC and SMC reset but both did not help.
I have also done a complete reinstall witch did not help as well.
I also did a test with a MBA from a friend (exact same model) and his always works with the external display after sleep while mine only works every second time.
Could this be a hardware defect? sound pretty strange to me, but who knows...

I have managed to make the Apple Hardware test by just pressing "D" while restarting. The test, however, did not find any error - but this does not surprise me as I think it only tests the ram.

  • How to get 16:9 resolutions when using DVI to Video Adapter?

I just plugged my new Intel Mac Mini into a 16:9 widescreen TV with the Apple DVI to Video Adaptor (PAL Video version).
    It only offers me:
    640x480
    720x480
    720x576
    800x600
    1024x768
    (all interlaced)
I do get a choice of 50hz (PAL) or 60hz (NTSC).
However, I don't get the widescreen options I've seen in some Apple screenshots.
I'm plugging it into a PAL TV via an s-video cable.
I intend later to plug it into a larger 42" plasma with same cable, but wanted to test it on this TV first.
    More info:
I noticed, when I bought the "DVI to Video Adapter" that there were NTSC and PAL version. Both seem to do PAL though.
Any help on this most appreciated.

Concerning your question, "if only i knew the the correct entries for a custom displayconfig x timing," I think I can answer that one for you.
It sounds like you have other Macs at your disposal that are correctly driving the TV you are trying to drive with the Intel mini. In that case, install DisplayConfigX on one of those computers and while it is running the TV at the desired resolution, click on the "Card" tab in DCX and then click on the "+" symbol at the bottom right corner. This will open a window in DCX titled "Resolution details" and you will see all the detailed information of the timing you need to enter into DCX on the Intel mini.

  • DVI to s-video adapter altering laptop display after connection with TV

    Greetings,
I recently got my MacBook Pro to display on my TV via the dvi to s-video adapter (also connected stereo sound). Everything works great, but ... after I disconnect the windows on several of my programs are altered (stretched, shortened, often relocated offscreen or very near off-screen). My ical window refused to display at all. I trashed the ical preference file in the Library, restarted the program and I could see the window again. I'm going to be connecting with my TV a lot. It will be a pain to have to trash preferences files after every connect. Anyone know what's going on?
    Thanks,
    Sigi

What happens if you quit all those applications prior to making the connection to the TV? I would think that should prevent the windows from dynamically resizing. But they are still going to have to resize if you open those apps while connected to the TV.
Mac OS is trying to keep the open windows completely on the desktop. Since your TV's screen is likely much smaller (in pixels) than the 1680 x 1050 pixels of the MBP, the windows are being shrunk and in some cases repositioned so they fit on the desktop when connected to the TV. Unfortunately, the previous settings are forgotten and not restored when you disconnect.

  • Can't display image on TV from MacBookPro (using DVI to video adaptor)

I purchased the apple "DVI to Video Adapter" to be able to use my TV as a display, but it isn't working despite help from the Apple help desk.
I'm using a standard TV video cable that plugs into the yellow video input jack, with is a Hitachi full multi-system C2578FS that works anywhere in the world. Before my iBook died last year, I used to watch movies from it on the same television using a similar setup (just VGA instead of DVI adaptor).
The television is not receiving the signal in any way. My MacBookPro is: the 'detect displays' when activated in my MacBook Pro's menu bar shows a display it calls "NTSC/PAL" which is the television, and I've tried each of the different settings to no avail.
Any ideas on how I might finally watch a movie or slideshow on my television?
    Kind regards in advance,
    -ck-

After much fiddling with display resolutions and TV setting, and several calls to Apple help, problem was found to have a really basic solution: replace the RCA connector cable. The old one was shot.

  • High virtual memory after sleep with Mavericks

Here is a screenshot of activity monitor below, right after lifting the lid on my MacBook Air 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.2 (upgraded from Mountain Lion).
It's in french but you can see that the virtual memory is running higher than I would expect (IMO). There is no slowdown of the OS, no beach balls, no memory pressure, ever.
This does NOT happen on my Macbook Pro 2012 (standard 13", no SSD) in identical conditions under the same OS version.
Here what i do in more detail. I run several apps at once:
    - MS Word (3 ou 4 docs)
    - Pages (1 or 2 docs)
    - Preview (1 or 2 medium or large PDFs)
    - Mail
    - iTunes
    - Safari (no more than 5 or 6 tabs at once)
    - Messages
    - A spell checker (Antidote. Yes, a french one)
    - Zotero
    - Activity monitor
RAM used is never above 6 Gb, and some it is usually cache anyway.
At the end of the day I close the lid to put the MBAir to sleep. The next day I see this high (or is it really that high??) virtual memory usage, with swap used anywhere from 300 to 900 Mb.
Computer runs smoothly, no hang ups, everything is seamless!
Is this normal operating behavior for a Macbook Air??
I know Mavericks introduced new RAM management, but should I just stop looking at Activity Monitor like I have OCD (I dont. I think.) or should I call Apple? Or do a clean install?
Suggestions welcome! If I'm missing info please advise. If a thread already exists about this I didn't find it...

You are not alone in being baffled and worried about the memory readings in the Activity Monitor.  There are many postings on this.  Mavericks uses memory quite differently than previous OS X versions and so the numeric memory usage readings no longer mean what they used to.  The best indicator now is the Memory Pressure graph, which on yours is low and green (good).
Computer runs smoothly, no hang ups, everything is seamless!
Yep.  Mavericks runs great.  There is nothing you need to change or be worried about, espeically with 8 GB of RAM.
should I just stop looking at Activity Monitor like I have OCD
Yes, unless you want to watch the green Memory Pressure graph but that would be booring.

    ISSUE
Occasionally, when I wake my iMac from a sleep, the display is white with a visible black mouse cursor. When I move the mouse pointer around the display, it reveals the image behind the white screen one pixel at a time.
    I've seen this on a MacBook Pro's running OS X 10.7.
    Any assistance would be appreicated.

    Norman,
Are you still having this problem? I seem to have solve my similar issue by resetting the screen background settings and desktops.
Before I started to see the "whitescreen" I'd copied over some default backgrounds from OSX 10.6.8 and set them as a desktop background. I'd had to individually set the same image to 3 desktops. I don't recall if I'd left any applications running when the MBP went to sleep and logged me out.
Assuming the "whitescreen" is some form of memory leak/corruption; I deleted the extra desktops and reset the background to a default OSX 10.8.2 solid color. Did a full power down of the machine and once restarted, let it go to sleep and log me out. Woke it up; no whitescreen: added a default Lion image, let it sleep. I repeated this process loading a copied 10.6.8 image; and then made three desktops, changed, added images to each desktop. So far, so good. Since I was "impatient", I'd cranked the sleep settings down to 1min so I don't know yet if there is a relationship between the whitescreen and sleep or log out delay time.
Hope this helps or is even relevant.

  • Putting the Displays to Sleep with Game Server Running

I have a game server, ok?
I have the console box on my desktop, which runs the sever (COD2) and keeps it active.
I try to put my displays to sleep ( hot corner bottom left ), but it always turns back on again. I don't want to put my computer to sleep because I have an active webserver and if I enable sleep mode, the webserver will stop listening.
Is there a way to keep my displays shut off with my computer still active, but still have the Game Server running fro my desktop console box running the server?

Something is waking the display up then--it might even be that server connection.
Do the brightness keys lower the display brightness to an "off" state? I know they do on the Mac notebooks.
I know that wouldn't be the best solution, but that would get the result you're looking for.

  • Re-install software after uninstall with home using universal installer

after uninstalling 10g software with home using universal installer how to re-install without deleting all components of database like the database exists i just want to put the oracle software on it and reusing x home location.

    Tofayel Ahmad wrote:
when it about linux then what would be the job.re-installing software in linux or windows like establishing a new database Regardless of the OS, installing the software is distinct from "establishing" a database. You can install the software without creating a database, but you cannot create a database without having installed the software.
so it's need time but for some missing services or few software components that would be a more costing. if there is a possible action that could restore the missing services in home. Huh?
The concept of "services" in Windows doesn't exist in Linux.
i thought it's would be great to startup the database in less time then installing. if i would install the software and using backup data file recover then is it a consistent recovery or inconsistent recovery. All recoveries that complete are consistent. Not all backups are consistent, but when you do a recovery, the redo stream is applied from the archivelog files to make the recovery "consistent".
so when ever need to recover what should require for consistent recovery so that i can say without this all other type of recovery jobs are inconsistent.there is no such thing as "inconsistent" recovery. You are either able to recover from your backups, or you are not able to recover. If you are able to recover, you are "consistent". Now, mind you, that does NOT necessarily mean your recovery will recover all data up to the point of failure. your ability to do that depends on having all the necessary backups, including archivelogs and ultimately, intact online redo logs. Without that, the best you can do is a point-in-time recovery. But it will still be "consistent" with the point in time to which you recover.
i am asking because as far i know i understand that no client would agree to go for inconsistent recovery. as i mentioned i am a new comer i have lot of confusion please if possible give some details. Well, I wouldn't agree to go for an inconsistent recovery, as no such thing exists. If you are talking about point-in-time recovery with potential data loss - it depends entirely on the client, the application, and the tolerance for data loss. Banking transactions cannot afford any loss of transaction data and so must have very robust systems with comprehensive, multi-level backups. Some other systems can be surprisingly forgiving.

  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011) doesn't wake the thunderbolt display after sleep

for some reason the display when connected to clamshell macbook pro 17" doesn't wake up when i go to wake up the display from sleep mode.
    what is going on?

The other day I got the blue screen, the fan going on high, and then when I disconnect my thunderbolt connection from my macbook pro - i get a shutdown.
Today I got flickering followed by the fan on high and then again I disconneced my thunderbolt cable and after a minute or two a shudown.
This never happened before.  Actually I was suprised to hear about a firmware update for flickering since that's never happened to me but since updating I now get the flicker.
Any ideas??  Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my work labtop.

  • Messed up color display and resolution because of mini-DVI to video adapter

Once I connected the mini-DVI to video adapter to the tv and got weird colors on my screen for a while but then it worked out, then after a while I disconnected the cable and turned my computer off. After that, everytime I turned my macbook on, the color is fine for two seconds and then it turns into a weird offset color, really bright colors, kinda sketchy and just a few colors, and a weird resolution and display obviously, but then I just connect my Mini-DVI to video adapter and disconnect it again (quickly) and the color returns to normal. How can I make the normal colors stay and not have to connect the mini-DVI to video adapater everytime I want to see the normal color display and resolution??
    please help!

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, turn off the White on Black, VoiceOver, and Zoom options, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left. If the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop, drag half of the items from the Library/Preferences/ folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon into it, and narrow down the files until you've isolated the one responsible.
