No display on projector

I have a sony vaio laptop. I have installed Windows Server 2012 R2 on it but while connecting to projector , it doesn't show anything. I also have windows 7 on the same pc but windows 7 connects well with projector. Please suggest something. What could
be the possible cause?

The appropriate forums for Windows Server 2012 R2 are found @
Windows Server forums , not in a Windows 7 forum.  The Server OS has a lot of features that do not exist in Windows 7 and therefore your situation cannot be properly addressed in this forum.
Did you check with the manufacturer of the projector to see if the application for the projector is compatible with Windows Server OS.  Not all user applications that run on Windows 7 are compatible with the Server operating systems.

  • Cannot get certain applications to display via projector

I was trying to display a movie on YouTube to my class (MacBook Pro connected to LCD projector), but Safari would not display, nor would QuickTIme Player. Understand: I  DO get my screen to display, but only certain applications will display via projector. In fact, I was able to get the YouTube movie to display on the projector by inserting it into a PowerPoint slide, as PowerPoint can be displayed.
How do I solve this problem in the future?

    Hi b,
Always best to start with basics. Is the projector turned on? Have you tried different input options on the projector (usually on a menu accessed with a button called Source or Input)?

  • Connecting a MacBook to an external display or projector

I have tried to connect my MacBook to a projector and to a TV using the mini-DVI to Video adapter, both with the same poor results. Here's the steps I took:
    - Turned on the TV
    - Connected the video cable to the TV "video in"
    - Connected the video cable to the MacBook with the mini-DVI to vieo adapter
    - Opened the MacBook
    - Turned it on
The MacBook boots up, the MacBook resolution changes and the video on the TV is distorted, showing essentially three images of the MacBook display. Any attempt to adjust the resolution using system preferences just makes it worse.
Has anyone had success using a MacBook for presentations using either a TV or a projector and, if so, what procedure do you use to connect?

    Greetings from Hong Kong-
I have a major presentation to give in a couple of days and have NOT been successful connecting to an external display. I am starting to freak out. Any instructions would be helpful!

  • Problem connecting an external display or projector to Retina Macbook Pro

I have a problem with my rMBP (MAC OS:10.8.2) and i'm not sure if it is just an easy fix or if there is a serious hardware issue.
I connect my rMBP to an external projector Hitachi CPX3011 (max resolution 1600x1200) very often for my presentation.
I use a Thunderbolt port to mini display port to VGA adapter to connect my laptop to this projector.
When I plug it into my projector the screen on my rMBP goes black and nothing shows up on the projector.
I try both of the Thunderbolt port, the rMBP switches resolutions and goes back
I called Apple, but the guy just told me to they never encounter this before, (case number 368401545).
Is there something that I am missing here???
Or do you guys think that my Thunderbolt port could be faulty.
By the way, just to be a little more descriptive. When I connect my projector to my rMBP on the port that doesn't work, my screen immediately turns black. I can still see my mouse pointer, but its incredibly HUGE. About the size of a dime.
Please help if you can. I really appreciate it. Check out the video for this problem.

I had the similar problem but it was specific to running windows 7 through bootcamp.  The only way i was able to get the laptop to work with a projector was by purchasing a USB 3 to Vga dongle (essentially an external graphics card)

  • Displaying on projector

I am having an issue displaying through a projector. I'm using a MacBook running 10.4.11 and have no issue using my mini-DVI to VGA adapter to project through portable projectors @ work. My trouble is displaying through our ceiling mounted project with works fine with an iMac G3 running 9.0.4 as well as iBook G4's running 10.4.11.
I have tried all resolutions, and clicking "Detect Displays" at all resolutions.
    Suggestions?

    Hey!
You can rest easy knowing that this problem is not isolated with just your computer. I work at a University Media Room Assistance, this is an issue with about one Mac a week with most pre-SP1 Vista computers.
The main issue seems to be coming from the Auto-Detect feature on each of the OS's, as with most Media Systems the signal does not go directly to the projector. There are usually a few intermediaries, the most common of these being Crestron Hubs. The signal is translated into the most efficient signal for the projector from all the inputs throughout the system.
I have not really found a true solution to this, other than continually restarting the computer. The one thing that seems to help however is attaching the VGA cable (via the dongle) to your computer BEFORE starting. This might help the computer see that there is actually something connected to it (this seems to work about 25% of the time for both Mac and Vista).
    Good Luck!

  • External displays and projectors

I've been having problems getting my MacbookAir (Mid 2012) running OSX 10.8.2 to use external displays and video projectors via VGA and DVI adapters.
The problem is that if I am connected to my external monitor and disconnect the magsafe power adapter, the displays (both the external monitor and the macbook builtin display) instantly go black/shut off.  If I close the macbook lid and open it, the displays come back momentarily but then switch off again.
If I connect a video projector via VGA while running on battery power only the displays come on momentarily and then switch off / go black/blank. Opening and closing the lid causes the displays to come on momentarily but they quickly go black/shut off again.
I found a work around for this as follows:
    - I had my displays set such that the external display was to be the "main" display (the display with the menu bar at the top and dock at the bottom)
    - I changed the settings so that the bultin display of the macbook was always the "main" display (using the system preferences option for displays and dragging the menu bar over onto the icon for the macbook builtin display)
    - With it set so the macbook's builtin display is always the "main" display it will now connect to external displays with and without the magsafe power adapter being connected- problem solved.
I think there is a bug here and it should be fixed.

Lukewarm13 I think you should start your own post with that question! personally I think you have a faulty unit.
Did some more testing. My wifes laptop will connect to the projector when using a different (short) vga lead and works fine. Then I can switch to the long cable and it still works fine! BUT if I restart the computer it again fails to work with the long cable until I have used the short lead first. weird!!!!
My laptop works fine first time with either cable!

  • MacBook Pro won't display on projector

I have a 17" MacBook Pro (original) with the full-size DVI connector for external displays. My co-worker has the 15" version of the same MacBook Pro. We can connect LCD monitors to either one of them and they work fine. I can also connect mine to our classroom projectors with no problem, but his will not work with the same projectors, same adapters, same cables, no matter what we've tried. The projector just says "no input." Also, his will not start up properly with the projector attached. It hangs, with the spinning ball, at different places in the startup. Sometimes you get the menu bar, sometimes the menu bar and the dock, but no desktop icons.
    Any ideas?

The typical convention is to attach the external device to the DVI port before starting the computer. During the startup polling, that tells the computer to expect the external.
Have you tried a regular external monitor with either computer? If that works, it suggests something amiss with the cable or the projector. Have you searched the projector's web site for any mention of not liking Macs?

  • MacBook Pro Won't Display on Projector Properly

I'm trying to plug my projector in my MacBook Pro but for some reason when I plug my projector into my HDMI port on my MacBook it will change resolutions, go black, change resolutions, go black, and so on. It's a cycle and will only stay on each resolution for a few seconds. I would love to get this figured out so I can stream movies on a very large screen but it has left me scratching my head. I have a new MacBook Pro Retina 2.8GHz, 16 GB RAM, and Intel Iris Pro graphics coupled with the NVIDIA graphics if this helps. Also running the latest version of Yosemite.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

  • How to switch screen display to projector using fn button

Just started to use an external projector via usb with my Macbook.  Can anyone advise me how to switch the display from the screen to the computer.  I believe it is via the Fn button......... thanks

He might have inadvertently hit a keyboard shortcut for zoom: go to System Preferences -> Universal Access and see if Zoom is turned on. If so, turn it off and it should return to normal.
If that's not it, there is another possibility: go to System Preferences -> Displays and click on Display. Check to see that the highlighted resolution is the last (highest) one; that is the native resolution; if you reduce it, everything becomes larger.

  • Videos look dark displayed using projector, but OK in my laptop?

this one seems to be a common problem. I have been lecturing in several medical meetings and when colleagues show embedded videos in their presentations, they look very dark. Sometimes they are so dark that miss completely the point. I have had the same problem, to the point where I have had to skip a slide with video because it is so dark that it cannot be seen on the main projector screen. The curious thing is that in my laptop screen they look fine when I am presenting... but very dark when they are projected. Any ideas to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

I don't have the same problem (i.e. videos too dark) but I'll bet it's the same solution. My problem was that the Keynote presentation on the LCD were way too dark. Funny thing was that if I opened up the systems preferences dialog box, they looked fine. Hummm.
Turns out that it was an issue with a change in the latest OS and how apple now handles the gamma setting in external displays. I don't recall all the details but Snow Leopard seems to use the new standard gamma of 2.2, making output too dark. The output gamma should be closer to 1.8.
To fix this, you need to adjust the color profile for the LCD projector that you are using.
To fix a projector, the projector must be plugged in and turned on to do this.
If you go to System Preferences, Displays and the Color option. You'll see a list of Display Profiles. There will be a dialog box on both the computer screen and the projector screen. To get them both on the computer screen to make editing a little easier you can click Gather Windows at the bottom of the dialog box on the computer.
I found it easier to just Calibrate the monitor and same a new profile - you can also uncheck the Show profiles for this display only and pick another profile like one of the sRGB profiles. To calibrate, click the Calibrate button (be sure you do it on the dialog for the LCD projector) I'd click Expert Mode - this will give you more options when adjusting the Gamma. Run through the Calibration routine making sure that you select a Gamma that is closer to 1.8 instead of the 2.2.
At the end, same the profile and then everything on the external display should look much better.
When researching my issue, there seemed to be consensus that using a digital interface the projector was better than the normal VGA cable. Didn't have a cable to try that.
Once you do this, the machine should always recognize the projector and behave properly. Seems a pain to have to do this but I didn't find any other alternative. The good thing is that I have not had to do this on every projector that I use. I have my own projector that has always worked properly.
I teach at a university where the rooms have mounted projectors - some work with no change, others I have to calibrate...
Try it out, hope it helps...

  • Laptop display plus projector with different resolutions

I have a T61 with the latest Presentation Director installed and a Sony VPL-CX100 data projector.
I want to display my laptop screen (1280 x 800) and my LCD projector screen (1024 x 768) together.
When I try to create a new display scheme the projector resolution is always greyed out and the resolution defaults to the lower (projector) resolution so when I switch back to LCD only I get a low resolution blocky display.
Can I safely set the resolution for both laptop and projector to the higher laptop resolution (1280 x 800) without damaging the projector?
    Thanks,
    Rob

The monitor and external projector will have to have the same resolution if you are using them in cloned mode. Setting higher resolution on external display won't damage it but you got to be sure that it is actually supported by the projector.

  • Cannot maintain PowerPoint slide display through projector

When I am using PowerPoint (Office 2011 suite via Office 365) through a projector, the screen frequently looses the PowerPoint slide and reverts to the image of my desktop.  I am constantly forced to reclick on my PowerPoint to get the presentation to reappear -- full screen -- using a projector.  Any suggestions?

When you bring up the monitors control panel, does it show on BOTH screens (internal and projector)? It should, and if you're not mirroring, ONLY change it on the projector. Make sure it matches the default for the projector. There no reason it shouldn't work, but that's the first place to check.

  • Macbook MiniVGA Display port Epson Projector Issues "Not Supported"

I have been using my Macbook OSx 10.8.5 with a Rocketfish Mini Displayport to VGA adapter (RF-AP307) connected to an Epson Projector (Powerlite83plus) for 3 weeks and just the other day a blue screen appeared on the projector stating that the computer is 'Not Supported'.
    Actions I have already tried:
    - turned on and off mirroring
    - changed the refresh rate
    - unplugged VGA adapter and restarted the computer
    - attempted to install firmware update for MiniVGA display port following directions located here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/_Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_Firmware_Update (update failed because VGA adapter not found)
Anyone having similar issues and have some additional solutions? Need a solution fast, if I need to buy another VGA adapter I will but would rather not have to spend the money again...
    Thanks

"- attempted to install firmware update for MiniVGA display port following directions located here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/_Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_Firmware_Update (update failed because VGA adapter not found)"
That update is for the Apple branded adapter, not the Rocketfish adapter.
I have the same adapter as you and have had no problems.  That doesn't really mean anything other than the part does work with many types of projectors.  Yours could have failed, though.  Does it work on any other display or projector?
