No display on Zen Mi

The display on my Zen Micro is blank (actually, I can see a very, very faint grey box). The player works, but I can't pick the music I want, access any options or change the display because I can't see what I am choosing.
I tried resetting the player by taking the battery out and putting it back in. I can't even choose to reformat it because I can't tell when I am on that menu.
Any idea what I can do?
Thanks!

Before I send my player in for repair work, can someone tell me the exact steps to get to where I can set my display brightness. Remember, I can't see anything on my Micro's display, so from the main menu, I would need to know exactly how far down each selection is (i.e. 5 clicks down to get to settings, then click down to display, etc.). I have a feeling my display is hosed and will need to be replaced (or the entire unit will need to be replaced), but I figured I would try this first.
Thanks

  • No display, need Zen V menu list

Hello all! I have my daughter's "cast off" Zen V. It has a broken volume switch (turn up button doesn't spring out). I figured out how to use the player with the bad switch without much problem. Then the display faded and went out (permanently so far). For the past year I have used the player without a display. I use Microsoft's Media Player to re-sync new music every so often.
The problem is that after reloading I need to select "random play all" before I can hear any music. I usually spend about 0 to 20 minutes trying to fight my way through the menus to select random play all. After that I use it with no problem.
The question is this: Does anyone know of a list of the menu tree for the Zen V (not the plus) In a perfect world it would be a PDF document from Creative but after looking I suspect it doesn't exist. I have a rudimentary list I created by watching some programming posts on Youtube. I suspect something is not quite right since selecting random play all does not always work the first time.
I'm not even sure that when I press the "backup" or "go back" button (the one below play/pause) where it actully ends up after pressing it a bunch of times. I think it is "music library" (so if I were to then press the select button it would go to the music library), but I have been wondering if instead I need to press "down" to select music library. Any assistance would be appreciated. I hate to throw it away becuause without a display it works very well and the battery lasts a long time!? :-)
Here is the menu as I think I have it:
(main): music library - now playing - photos - videos - FM radio - extras - system
(I don't think I have FM radio on my player but I am not sure)
(music library menu): playlists - albums - artists - genres - alltracks - recordings - bookmarks - dj
(dj menu): album of the day - random play all - most popular - rarely heard
    Thanks -- HD

    Hey there,
for a few days I had the WSoD on my Creative ZEN, so I needed a menuestructure, too. Now it's working again and I've wrote down the structure of the ZEN, seems to be equal to your player, just try it:
    Microphone
    Pictures
    Music
    actual Title
    Playlists
    Albums
    Artists
    Genres
    all Titles
    Records
    Bookmarks
    DJ
    Album of the day
    coincedence (all)
    most popular songs
    Videos
    FM-Radio
    Extras
    SD-CARD
    System
By Zen there is another problem, when you"re pressing the back button for 0 times for getting into players beginning menuestructure it will not do it. So try to press 0 times the back button, then 0 times the up-arrrow button, the I think you must be at menuepoint "microphone".
    Hope could help you. Greets

I purchased a Creative Zen Vision M MP3 player around 2-3 years ago and it's been great so far. I've even bought most of the accessories for it!
I switched it on today and found that there was a problem with the display - it's gone taint and there are stripey lines across it. Any idea what this might be?
I've tried to reset it and plugged it into the television through the AV function and it displays just fine on the television.
I've sent off an e-mail to Creative but just wondered if anyone has experienced something similar? And if so, how did you get it working again?
    Many thanks,

  • Dim display on Zen Mi

My display is very dim all of a sudden.
    Anyone else experience this?
This is my second Micro, the first one froze all the time.

<FONT color=#3333ff>If you have tried resetting the player and that has not helped it could be the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) which it sounds like it is, then have you tried bringing up the contrast? If that fails it could be a weak connection between the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and the contacts of the display. Many items like this use a conducti've rubber strip that is flexible, sometimes these move (e.g when placed in your pocket and some considrable force is exerted on the player) this happend to my old mobile phone. If this is the case there is not much elce you can do except contact Creative and arrange or a repair or replacement. Weak partially displayed looking characters often have the signature that there is somthing arry with the display.

  • No Display 8GB Zen

I have a three month old Zen that I've been happy with until this morning. When I switched it on the screen remained black - no flicker or signs of life at all. I thought it was dead but noticed the blue light. The battery's fully charged and the pc recognises it when connected. I've tried rebooting and have upgraded the firmware but still zilch. I purchased the player in UK but I'm using it in Thailand. A forum search hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

This is certainly a hardware problem. Turn it on and try tapping on the screen. Might work, but you'll probably have to send it in.
Contact email or phone tech support to get a RMA code and instructions for returning it for warranty repairs.

  • My Zen Nano is dead! Help me!

    Hello there!
I've got one Zen Nano for almost 0 months and it never gave me any trouble. It was working perfectly till yesterday.
Today, when I tried to turn it on, it turned the backlight on, displayed the Zen Nano logo and right after it, it shut down. I've tought it was a problem with the FAT, so I tried to format it, without any success, windows explorer would freeze when I right click the dri've...
The other thing that could be wrong, was the firmware, so I downloaded the firmware update thingy (I've done it before, but there was a new version I didn't have yet), turned it on holding the Play/Pause button to get in the recovery mode. It recognized my version and said it would update to the new one. I said ok and waited for a while.
A few moments later it showed the following message "Error - could not perform SCSI command."
The updated closed, and since then, my Zen Nano is completely dead.
Is there anything I could try? Any tip? Suggestion?
    Thank you for your attention.

I've updated to .2.blahblahblah and right after it was finished updating it turned off only to never turn on again.
    With a battery dead
Without a battery (plugged into USB) dead
    No recovery
    No USB recognition
It's a lifeless lump of crap right now. What a waste of money. Its only 2 months old....argh.

  • Zen M100 with 1 day of use no longer works

*Zen M00 with day of use no longer works. After a few hours leave it's plugged into the USB, I realized that it's was abnormal screen. I tried to unplug it from USB by Windows but it still fails. After removing it from the USB and tried calling then turn off the phone, but he would not answer. So I left the option of resetting it. But the reset also did not generate any results, only resulted in a momentary change in brightness on your display. ZEN M00 I tried to call several times, tried to reset several times and have not had any results. The only thing I could find was a logo with the name of Lyra and the message to boot, but it is very difficult to identify what is written because it is very difficult to read. • 16Gb Zen - Charge Iss

    Hi,
I've just received a brand new Creative Zen 6Gb from Amazon, I've just put the player on charge and it appears something is not right.
The player turns on, displays the Creative logo, pauses, flashes a white screen, then displays the Zen logo, then the screen seems to distort and then turn off. This cycle just then continues to repeat, I've had it plug in for about an hour, I'd expect to see a charge screen or something by now.
The power light is glowing a little as the instructions say, but is not constant, it'll go out when the Zen logo goes off the screen.
Is this normal behaviour or is there something at fault?

Cheers for the response, I left the unit on charge for 24 hours and it still failed to turn on, I have now presumed it to be faulty and returned it to Amazon for a replacement.
I did manage to get the player out of the logo showing cycle and on to a further screen which was black with a battery icon in the top right corner, this continued to display as empty then switching to a charging icon, but after taking it off charge for over 8 hours the unit failed to turn on.
Windows never managed to detect the player nor did my laptop with a Linux OS. Sadly a bad start to my Zen experience, hopefully things will improve with the 2nd unit.

  • Zen micros wont turn

If this won't work the player is faulty and you need to get it replaced.

  • Zen bug reports... where to submit? Firmware & Media Explorer bugs

There seem to be two rather annoying bugs (actually, three, but the firmware ones are closely related) - there should be a separate forum for bug submission...
The firmware bugs are related to the embedded graphics and are present in the updated firmware, too.
The first bug: embedding a graphic in an MP3 properly, with tested tools such as ID3Tagger, works fine in any player supporting the image display - but Zen will *not* display the graphic unless the header's "Album" field is filled, too. If the "Album" field is empty in ID3v2 (or v), Zen will never display the graphic.
The second bug seems related to this: if the "Album" field has the same value in more than one file in the same directory (or playlist), Zen will only use the first indexed graphic for all those files. As a result, right now I have 0 various Star Wars themes in my Zen, each file with a different graphic embedded in it - and yet Zen shows the same graphics in all of them.
The third bug is in the Media Explorer: every time the player is plugged, CTPlyLsU.exe loads. But very often, it will load as a new process each time - and it will NOT be terminated after the player is disconnected, but it will stay in the memory! When that happens, every time the player is detected again, a new instance of the process will be started and used. I plugged the player in 0 times yesterday, and I had 0 instances of that process devouring the resources.

Strange, CTPlyLsU.exe is on my system but based on the task manager it doesn't load at all when the player is connected and everything works fine.Message Edited by jpalm on 0-30-200709:6 AM

  • Zen Micro not booting up and recovery mode doesn't do anyth

    Hi,
I just got my Zen Micro yesterday and it worked fine until the second battery charging.
I charged it using the AC adapter. When it finished charging I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't go past the Createi've log (the second screen after the one with the copyright notice)
Since then I've tried all the options in the recovery menu but they don't seem to have any effect. (The recovery mode displays "Creative Zen Micro v0.0.58 at the top)
I tried "clean up" and gave it at least 30 minutes but it didn't finish.
I tried "reload firmware" but after some time I took out the battery and it still gets stuck at the second Creative screen. I don't get the firmware error screen.
Also tried the format and reboot options... nothing.
Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to .02.05 firmware and didn't have any problems. All the software also worked fine on my WinXP machine.
    Would appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Greg.

I've had the exact same problems as GregL, except that I have the original firmware that came with the Zen Micro (I was planning to upgrade it until this whole mess happened).
I charged it fully a few times, and it'd been working fine for about fi've days, and now, I can't get past the "Creative" logo screen! Recovery menu works, but the options don't seem to get anywhere. They never get past "Erasing Firmware", "Scan Disk", and the like. I've tried rebooting and I've tried removing the battery, but nothing has changed.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with my Zen Micro?

  • Help! In urgent need of quick respon

I'm leaving for a cottage vacation in an hour, and I want to have some songs transferred to my Zen Touch before I leave, so urgent help is needed!
Inquiry: Using Creative Media Source Organizer, I've imported new files to my PC Music Library. My question is this... if I "select all" the files in my PC Library & begin to transfer them to my Zen Touch mp3 player, will my mp3 player just transfer the files it doesn't already have? Or will it have to re-transfer everything? Please let me know!
Also, I'm just wondering... they say in the manual that it's not good to fill up the Zen Touch to its full capacity. Is this a serious danger to my mp3 player? What will go wrong if I do fill it to its full potential?
    That's all! Thankyou!

Start up Creative Media Source, plug in your Zen touch.
Display the Zen touch and do the quick sync option, it will then only transfer those tracks from your PC library that aren't already on your MP3 players hard dri've.

  • Zen 16GB lock ups, text display and video conversion probl

Three issues with my new Zen 6GB. Any ideas are welcome.
The first is that it keeps randomly locking up - not whitescreened or blackscreened - just locked displaying whatever it was previously showing. This happens both while trying to transfer files (it's the same using Media Player synch, Creative Media Explorer or Windows Explorer) and while playing back files. The only solution I've found is to get a needle for the reset button and let it go through "rebuilding" when I turn it on again. That then leads to it displaying the wrong album art... but I can li've with that for now...
The second issue is a strange, definately software, one - the numeral "2" is always displayed one line below the rest of the text. This happens in the track listing, track description during playback and while setting the time / date / alarm. It's not the case when displaying the time in the top right corner, but it is in every other situation, and it's only the figure "2" that's affected.
The third issue is that the Zen Video Convertor refuses to convert any video files. Whatever format of file I have, from whatever source, I always get an error to say that the required codec is not installed.
As I said, any ideas are welcome. I'm travelling almost constantly for the next month, so don't really want to send off for replacement or repair (unless of course for a full refund, and I'll buy a replacement at the airport!).

Plz Cretaive, Add UMS mode and recording radio ! it's very important for many people !

  • Creative ZEN V: Display; FAQ & Knowledgebase unhelp

    Creative ZEN V, GB
When initially placed on the charger, the device seemed still to function. When removed from the charger 4-5 hours later, the ZEN no longer functioned properly. Though the blue power lights would activate, the display is entirely blank.
Resetting the ZEN has not been successful, nor has connecting it to the computer. The ZEN is indicated as a new device, but Windows XP does not recognise what the device is and requests to download software.
The FAQ and Knowledgebase of creative.com has been unhelpful.
More specific information available immediately upon request.

I have had it happen 4 times in less than 2 years. st time it was covered by warrantee - it cost me 25 bucks the next 2 times. This time I give up - I'm getting another brand.
