No display when connect DVI-D dual link cable

Hi
I am using MS-6398 motherboard and I have the latest Bios 5.60.  when I connect DVI-D dual link cable from ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV graphic card to my SONY SDM-M81 Flat Panel.  There is no display at all during POST as well as after boot up. It has display only if I connect with regular analog VGA cable.  I have contacted the ATI tech support and they ask me to contact the manufacturer of my motherboard because it don't have display during POST which is nothing to do with driver.
thanks,
Siong

DVI-D port on the Ultradock is single link only.
If you need DVI-D at dual link resolution (i.e. 2560x1600), you need an active displayport to dual link converter. Startech makes them, they should be around 80 USD or something of that region.

  • DVI-D Dual link and DVI-D Single link

I have here a FPD2185W Gateway 21" monitor that will not connect to my mac via the MBP's DVI port. I sent in the Mac for repair and it was sent back saying "everything is A-OK". Now my question is, are the cables that i am using effecting the functionality because i know the monitor works on a PC via DVI, but not the mac. The Cable im using now is a DVI-D Dual Link cable. would it be wise to try the Single link cable? I am pretty sure i have tried everything, and am desperate to get a DVI signal going to my monitor instead of the VGA.
    -thanks, grant

Do a Google search on "FPD2185W Mac" and you'll see quite a few problem reports. It seems like the Gateway display is the problem and just won't work properly with some Macs.

  • Does 785GM-E51 DVI support dual link?

I am considering buying the 785GM-E51 motherboard which comes with a DVI port (as well as HDMI and VGA of course).
Will the DVI support dual link?  If so, what is the maximum resolution I could have on the two monitors (say, at 60 Hz with high colour depth)?
    Cheers!
    jcarrete

Please clarify your question, dual link has nothing to do with being able to use two displays.
"Dual-link should not be confused with dual display (also called dual head), which describes those situations where a computer is hooked up to two monitors at once. "
     That quote from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
That been said I think you should be able to have 2 displays, 1 DVI or HDMI + VGA You can't have 2 digital out at the same time though, DVI + HDMI.

  • Error -36 alert displays when connecting to a Windows server

    Hi All
I am getting error -36 when I tried to copy any file or folder from windows server
"Error -36 alert displays when connecting to a Windows server"
Even the file info is zero KB, while from other MAC machine it is right size.

You shouldn't get the same error when you are doing it from Terminal. The error should be a little different. I just did a test. Is this a Microsoft 2003 server, 2000 or NT4 you are connecting to? Your post isn't specific. Make sure the System Preferences:Network:Advanced:WINS tab is filled in with the domain you are connecting to next to the "Workgroup" name. The WINS server should already be filled in. Open the connect window with command K. Type domainname\username for the login and then the password. If you don't want to enter the domain each time you will need to add the domain in the Applications:Utilities:Directory Uitility application.
If you are trying to connect to a Windows XP client box, the machine will automatically try to authenticate with the guest account not the username and password you are using even when "registered user" is ticked. You have to edit the registry to change this default. If the username from the Windows PC is the same as the user logon then this is why the PC is able to connect and the mac is not.

A user meet the above problem connecting to Windows 2003 server but have no this error if connected to Windows 2000 Server.
According to the above solution, will you configure Windows 2003 server or just configure user's Macintosh platform?

We could both be right on this one; it depends on your setup. By default, if you're running a domain then the Domain Controller is:
*Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) Policy Setting: not defined*
That defaults to the Group Policy setting, which is enabled.
The local computer group policy for Windows Server 2003 is:
*Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) Security Setting: disabled*
I'm referencing this KB article on Microsoft's website: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887429>.
This does not take into consideration that you may have upgraded from Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003.
Regardless, you seem to have already eliminated this as a possibility as you mention below.
In my case, user can connect to win2003 server without problem in the same LAN 192.168.8.x. If connect it from remote lan 192.168.10.x (e.g. smb://192.168.8.250/artwork) error -36 will appear. Since remote lan is connected to local lan by secured VPN, all traffic or any ports are allowed to passe through VPN.
Rather than a server or client problem I would speculate your VPN connection is the problem. Do you have port TCP 445 open or blocked at your VPN concentrator? I believe this needs to be open.
    Hope this helps!

MBP Retina OS X Yosemite has distorted display when connected to Epson projector.  How do I fix this?

    Hello ATLawson,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that the display, after connecting to a projector, does not have the image quality you would expect. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend in this situation. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the information in the attached article.

  • Best way to connect T430 to Dual Link DVI 2560x1440 Catleap monitors?

I have a T430 and I am looking to get one of those cheap $300 27" Korean 2560x1440 IPS/PLS monitors, but the problem is all of the cheap models only take dual link DVI, while the new T430 notebooks only output via displayport.
I was thinking the best solution for this would be to buy a Lenovo dock that natively outputs dual link DVI (DP to dual link DVI adapters do not allow for refresh rate overclocking). Though on the Lenovo website they don't specify whether their docks output single or dual link, and I am not sure if the signal conversion is done "natively" or via some custom chip in the docks which might prevent refresh rate overclocking.  Do you guys know of any T430 docks that are definitely equiped with native dual link DVI? If the docks are only single link DVI or do not allow overclocking then that leaves either buying a $70 adapter and forgoing the overclocking or buying a significantly more expensive monitor with displayport input (and more input lag).
What have your experiences with connecting your T430 to one of these monitors been like? And what do you think would be the best solution at the moment?

The dock dvi is single link dvi-d, if you wish to use dual link dvi-d connection, then you should consider the Apple laptop's active miniDP to Dual Link DVI-D converter.

  • No Video from Mini-DisplayPort or DVI, only Dual-Link DVI

Just got my new Mac Pro 6-Core delivered. Out of the box, there were problems. I have a Dell 27" monitor that takes Dual-Link DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI and a Dell 22" monitor that takes DVI, VGA, or HDMI. I am using a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable to connect my 27" monitor to the Mac Pro and a DVI cable for my 22" monitor. I have the ATI 5870 graphics card installed OEM.
The problem is that the graphics card appears to not be switching to Mini-DisplayPort or DVI for output. It only works when I plug in a Dual-Link DVI cable to my 27" monitor. At that point, I get a video feed on my screen on a hard boot. At this point, I can then plug in my Mini-DisplayPort cable to my Mac Pro and unplug the Dual-Link DVI cable, and it switches video feeds perfectly. The problem then is that when I restart the computer, or power off and power on, the problem starts all over again. I HAVE to boot using the Dual-Link DVI cable for anything to work.
Ideas? Called AppleCare, waiting on engineering to see what they have to say. All the cables work perfectly when I plug them into my MacBook Pro (Late 2008). I am stumped.

I seem to be having similar problems. I bought the same system (6-core Westmere with the 5870 graphic card installed OEM) last month and I seem to be having problems running two Dell monitors which I know to be perfectly fine.
For the past month, I've been using a 24" Dell U2410 monitor with my Mac Pro using a DVI cable. Absolutely no problems at all. I then purchased another 24" Dell U2410 with the intention of running with dual displays. To prepare for this, I bought two mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables from Monoprice. When I finally received the second display, I turned off the computer, hooked up both monitors through DisplayPort using the two mini-DisplayPort connections on the graphics card and turned on the system. I got two black screens. I tried to use keyboard commands to bring up the shutdown dialog box but it wasn't working. So I was forced to do a hard shutdown by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
I went through a series of combinations of power cycles for the displays and computer and still two black screens. Finally, I went back to square one, a single display through a DVI cable. Again, a black screen. At this point, I disconnected the display from the computer. Power cycled the display (this initiates the self-test for the Dell display), hooked it up to the Mac Pro, turned it on, and it worked. I had one working display. Then I plugged in the second display using the mini-DisplayPort to Display port cable and that worked also. Finally, two working displays. For some reason, the Mac Pro recognized the display using the DisplayPort as the primary monitor. I rebooted the Mac Pro and the monitors continued to work properly. I booted into Windows 7 and again, no problems. I went back to OS X and used the computer for the night. When I was done, it put it to sleep.
This morning, when I tried to wake it up, same problems. I had to go through a series of power cycles and cable swapping to finally get a single screen to work.
I went through some of the troubleshooting documents here in the Support area and found this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4279
I am going to pick up the Apple mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter and try running the display as two DVI monitors. Hopefully this will fix those problems. If the AppleCare engineer is able to give you anymore information, please let us know. This is a worrisome issue.

  • Speckles on external Samsung Display when connected to my Macbook Pro

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM monitor via a mini display port DVI adapter, I get loads of speckles on the display. They vary in colour depending on the display colour and are driving me mad!
Webcam video of this effect here http://gallery.me.com/wildj/100399
Doesn't do it when connected via the VGA adapter.
Anyone else had any problems like this?
    Jim

I have exactly the same issue - just got my brand new apple adapter, and to my great disappointment the monitor just blinks. It is the same monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM. The cables seem to be right - single link DVI-D cables, I tried three of them, one of them actually produced what could be considered a picture - but it is not usable - blinking and shaking. VGA adaptor works fine. I was hoping to get better quality with DVI, but it seems to be not possible in my setup. To add to it, I have another two Samsung monitors - 2232GW, and 245T - the same issue. Could the adaptor be faulty? Though it doesn't seem to be the case, as there are a lot of posts about this problem.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late respons.
    My config:
1 mac mini with OSX Server leopard
    1 airport extreem
    1 external HDD LaCie
An airport Extreme has the posibility to share a network drive. So I plugged in my HDD into the airport extreme and configured the thing.
Than I turned to the mac mini. And started configuring my sharepoints.
So one of my sharepoints is the external HDD.
There are several directories on there that I want to make available thru the legacy protocol FTP.
So by just making these sharepoints available thru FTP i expected for these sharepoint to show up in mij directories if I connect to my external IP with a FTP client like CyberDuck.
(portforwarding and everything is not the problem, because I can make a connections and all directories show up as browseable.
But the sharepoint I made on the network drive just show up as an bin or another kind off file I can't open.
    Everything else is browsable..
They show up by the way in the root dir of the FTP Server as regular symbolic links.
Thru Finder I can browse them and do everything. But as soon as i connect over the internet, lan or whatever, these symbolic links are not the access point towards the directory underneath.
They show up with the correct name just not as an dir I can open.
    Hope this helps

No problem. It is an older monitor. But being a small business, we can't afford to discard a working monitor that costs $1500 to replace.
The annoying part is that we tried to do a lot of research prior to purchase to find out exactly what resolutions the Lenovo docking solutions supported. We asked our rep to check because of the total lack of Lenovo documenation on this. We would not have wasted all this time trying to get it to work if we had known.
Even now, no one from Lenovo has come right out and stated that their docking stations don't support Dual Link. I think that they actually have no idea.
We've been bounced around and around between the same Lenovo sales, support and customer service numbers so many times in the past three days that they are now just dropping our calls in the hope that we will go away. No one at Lenovo has offered a solution of any kind.
FYI, we've even been told that because we ordered the W540 through CDW that there is 'nothing Lenovo can do.'
