No Dolby AC3 presets showing up

I've been using Adobe Media Encoder CD6 since it was released and finding it vastly superior to Compressor in regards to output quality. The only problem I had been having was that it didn't have a preset for Dolby AC3, so I would do the video in AME and audio in Compressor.
Finally had the bright idea to see if there was a download or something over on Adobe to 'fix' this problem, and discovered that it was supposed to be having the preset all along. However, the information said that it was due to purchasing the program as part of the cloud, which I didn't do (I upgraded my Production Suite), and that it was corrected with version 6.0.1, which I already installed. As this is the only information I can find on Adobe about this problem, I'm wondering what can I do to get the presets (and if anybody else had the problem)
Thanks

Hi Jeff,
We've been bundling the Surcode encoder trial with Premiere for many versions now. My memory may be faulty here, but I think the first time we did it was with Premiere 6.5 (old Premiere, not Premiere Pro). But it's always been slightly hidden in the same way- you had to explicitly choose Dolby as the audio encoding option and then choose the Surcode encoder.
Regardless, your workflow (encode to WAV and let Encore or another downstream app handle Dolby encoding) is what I recommend. This doesn't work for everyone, of course. Someone who is required to hand off AC3 audio, rather than complete the workflow themselves, will still need to encode directly to Dolby via AME. That's why we bundle the Surcode plugin, and let people pay for the license if they need it.
Also, worth noting that the Surcode plugin is only required if you want more than stereo audio. AME can encode to Dolby stereo without additional licensing. (This is functional in the new non-Legacy encoders in AME CS6. The limitation that requires you to use the Legacy encoders only applies to the Surcode plugin.) Mind that depending on which MPEG container type you're using, you may need to change the Multiplexing type to None in order to get Dolby as an audio option.

  • Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format

I tried to find in the QuickTime forum about this topic but no success.
I received this message trying to watch a movie:
This file contains a track in the Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format. You may need to install a DirectShow decoder for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack of this file.
The problem is that I visit about 15 discussions webpages about this "AC3 Audio (code "8192")" and what I really got? Nothing that really worked. What I found was for PCs, codec in .exe and so on, but for the Mac, zero. I even bought DivX for Mac and it was a deception. I looked at Apple/QuickTime/Components and I was again at DivX page...

  • HT3775 how to get quicktime player to play dolby ac3 files?

I would like to get quicktime to recognize and play Dolby AC3 audio files. Anyone know how to accomplish this? Trying watch a movie with no sound.

Your bought WMV? Do you mean Flip4mac? If you just mean the ancient Windows Media Player for Mac, it won't work.
Reading this set of directions you export to WMV and name the file with a WMV extension:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/pdfs/Flip4MacWMVQuickStart.pdf
If you don't have Flip4mac, that is, the $50 version, not the $29 version, you can't export, just import.

  • Why do PDFs created with some print presets show the error message "cannot extract embedded font."

Whenever I create a pdf from InDesign using a press-quality preset, I get an error message upon opening the file. The error message says that an embedded font cannot be extracted.
InDesign indicates the font is not present in the file.
In Acrobat's properties, the font in the error message is listed and shows that it is not embedded, and that the actual font is unknown.
Running the "embed fonts" from preflight fixups doesn't help.

Found this fix in Preflight: Under prepress, I selected my destination, which is sheetfed offpress (CMYK) and ran the analyze and fix. The updated file opened without the error message.

  • Problem with Dolby ac3 playback

The have the stereo soundtrack for my video in .aiff format and it was made with the typical splicing together of different takes etc. The .aiff track sounds fine but when I compress it using A.Pack to a Dolby Stereo (2 channel), 192kbps, -31dBFS, no compression preset- on playback (on my Powerbook speakers!) I get every hiss and crack, ambience noise and edit splice noise that you can't hear in the original .aiff (it's there, but you can't hear it at normal playback.
Can another setting help this or am I stuck with this if I use Dolby stereo?

It's well worth simply opening the file in peak and saving it out wiht a different file name to see if that improves things, however Peak also has a lot of tools which will help you reduce background noises, clicks, etc. It also operates with VST plug ins, of which there are many freely available on the net.
I also use Bias Soundsoap (both as a Peak plug in and as a stand alone app) and can't tell you how many times that has helped me improve audio from dodgy sources! That's well worth considering for cleaning up your audio as well.
Peak's display of the audio is pretty good -it makes it easy to see the noises and background rumbles. You can edit the audio far more finely than you can in FCP.

  • Different level from dolby AC3/AIFF

How can I rise the level of the Dolby AC 3 stream to equal my AIFF stereo track? Its the first time I put 2 audio streams on the same video and the difference in the level is to big (maybe 12 Db). I understand Dolby "normalizes" the audio program but for only music like my project it has no sense, my AIFF should be at -5 Db referenced to 0.
    Any help will be welcome
    Maurice

Once you've created the .ac3 you can't alter the level. You can either try raising the level of the digital normalisation (the Compressor default is -27dB), or you could raise the volume of your source audio and re-encode the .ac3 that way.
    Cheers

  • Audio Dolby and MPG2 showing up different lengths

    Hello everyone!
I have been compressing my FCP project with compressor into a MPG2 file and a Dolby Audio file for use in DVD studio pro. Only problem is that the audio tracks and the video tracks are slightly different sizes in the timeline, like only a frame or two. What is happening? is there any way to exactly align just the start points? Anyone have any experience with these issues?
    Hoping for some pro-advice!
P.S. thanks for all the help in here over the past few years!

I just posted a similar but slightly different question here.
This is fairly standard behavior - you can see this in play by opening an AIFF file in Quicktime, looking at the length, then dropping it into DVDSP and see the length reported differently. I've read a few possible explanations but I don't know exactly why. Something to do with Dolby and the way it interprets frames?
As the other person said, if the audio and video are in sync that is the bottom line. Watch clips at different parts of the video (definitely paying attention at the end). If it's in sync, you're all set. What your eyes and ears see are what other people will too, and that's way more important than what DVDSP tells you..
My problem is that the stereo AIFF files and 5.1 AC-3 files are WAY different lengths and the video/5.1 loses sync. A different dilemma altogether.

  • Stopped playing Dolby ac3 sound-please helpI

I make a lot of simple DVDs and always encode audio with ac3 and Compressor. Recently I can no longer create sound with the ac3 tracks. Here are the facts:
    * No sound with the viewer or simulator
    * If I replace the track with an aiff track it works fine, so it is not an overall audio problem. I use a lot of audio software and it works fine
    * I have built the DVD and it also creates no sound.
    * I have used old ac3 tracks that worked before and still no sound.
    * I have run update
    * I have repaired permissions
    * I have reloaded DSP and Compressor and re-did everything above.
    * I have DSP 4.0.3.
Any ideas? Tell me it is some dumb, simple thing.

4.03 is the PPC version 4.12 is the universal. The studio upgrade path to universal is expired so you are at 4.03.
Another thought is to ditch the preference file for DVDSP, Compressor and reinstall pro aps suppport. These are "ball field solutions" so it is more generic than specific.
OT: With FCS2 I wonder if there will be some new promotion to get from PPC to universal.

  • Different start for DTS and Dolby AC3

I can play my movie either in DTS Dolby Digital 5.1 by setting the audio track using a Audio set up sub-menu. What I would like to do is on choosing DTS in the sub menu to see a short DTS intro rather than a Dolby intro when I play the movie. Does anybody have any ideas how I can tell Encore that when I choose "play movie"
If audio track 1 then say playlist 1 or
If audio track 2 then playlist 2
    Many thanks

Not to be a pedant, but please ask Dolby Labs before using their films!!
You'll need to sign a TDA with them, and agree to submit examples of your final disc for quality control by Dolby.
This is a free service, as long as your Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder is a properly licensed one, like the SurCode one in Premiere Pro.
    Ditto DTS.
You'll need to sign the agreements, and they will check the suitability of your encoder before sending you the files.
The idea behind this is that those trailers are a guarantee to the end user of a certain technical quality - and Dolby Labs do prosecute people using them illegally.
One of the benefits is that both DTS and Dolby Labs will send you pristine copies of the trailers, as well as EPS logo files as well (You also cannot use the Dolby or DTS logos without permission either)

  • Track start adjust throws audio out of sync?

    Hi
Have a project with 13 x 2-3 minute sequences to go to DVD. My menu system provides links directly to all 13 sequences but alos requires additional links to partial sequences (sections of the 13 main tracks)
Have exported files as self contained QTs from FCP and imported into DVDSP. All is well with the 13x main tracks.
To effect the links to sub-sections, I have dragged a movie from the asset lib and dropped it on to a menu item, making a new track. I then identify the required in point and set the audio & video track start time to that TC (adjusting track duration if necessary).
My problem is that changing the start time of the audio and video tracks, even though they are identical, throws them ot of sync.
I have no problems with the full tracks, only those that I make adjustments to.
    1. Is my workflow correct for linking to sub-sections or should I be looking at chapter markers?
    2. Assuming I'm right, can I do anything obout the sync issue after track start time adjustments?
I'm working with PAL material, DVDSP 5.1.1
I've searched the archioves and althought there is A LOT of material on audio sync, I have failed to find anything similar to my problem.
Thanks in advance for ay advice.
    Peter

    Hi:
I think you can avoid your problems changing the way you plan your DVD:
Have exported files as self contained QTs from FCP and imported into DVDSP. All is well with the 13x main tracks.
My first advice is encode your movies outside DVDSP, using Compressor MPEG2 and Dolby AC3 presets. DVDSP leave audio uncompressed and you can find problems related with high bitrates in your final DVD. Besides that, AC3 audio is "almost" same quality for the standard audience and save a lot of space in your disc.
To effect the links to sub-sections, I have dragged a movie from the asset lib and dropped it on to a menu item, making a new track. I then identify the required in point and set the audio & video track start time to that TC (adjusting track duration if necessary).
Do you mean you are duplicating your tracks to create the different playback sections? You don't need to do that. Just create some markers on the main track/s and create some Stories based in those chapter markers.
Here you have two links to learn about stories:
Stories Tutorial (from Drew13's www.dvdstepbystep.com site)
    Stories Tutorial (from www.kenstone.net site)
You can play with your tracks, markers and stories to create multiple playbacks with different play order, in &out, etc.
Hope it helps no matter my answer doesn't point at least directly to the sync issue.

  • Presets does not show anymore the live preview

The first three times I used Aperture 3, the "Presets" showed the live preview. Example : Presets/Color/Cross Process 1 showed a small image where I could appreciate before clicking. Now the live preview image is not shown anymore. I uninstalled Aperture completely and after reinstalling, it worked for a day or two. After that, impossible to get back the live preview. I'm working on the newest MacBookPro 17'' with 8GB Ram. I also installed the latest update of Aperture.
    Can somebody help me? Thanks.

I had a glitch were all the adjustments and histogram appeared to be active at the same time as the quick preview was on. The sliders moved but no adjustment was applied. Maybe a similar problem? Allan
