No Dolby, no DTS from my Audigy2 zs plati

I have the same behavior as described under the No Dolby, no DTS from my SBli've 24bit external. How do I get SPDIF DD & DTS out of the Audigy? All I get over the TosLink, is PCM. If I enable "SPDIF" pass through, it works, but then, no sound from my speakers.
No receiver!! All exernal devices (BluRay, ATSC tuner, etc) use the Audigy for SPDIF decoding (in). The analog output goes to an 8 channel DI box for unbalanced to balanced conversion (XLR, +4dBu, ground lift) which goes to my sound system electronics.
The SPDIF out goes to a Creative DDTS-00 for headphones and other audio monitoring.

Can't get Dolby and DTS options to work

Hi!
Could anyone help me with my new Sound Blaster Z soundcard. I can't get Dolby and DTS options to work with my optical cabel under Cinematic tab in Pro Studio. I've googled enough, tried basically everything. Cinematic tab was never greyed out from the beginning. It either gave me intense, very high pitch noice when you acticated Dolby or DTS options or now... giving error which states:
"The SPDIF-out (Sound Blaster Z) device is currently being used by another application. Please close any application that may be playing audio to this device and try again."
I've re-installed drivers numerous times, tried different Windows operating system (7 and 8.1). Speakers (Sound Blaster Z) is made as default device, other stuff is disabled. I seriously don't know what to do, I'm god **** frustrated, because apart from Cinematic tab not working the sound isn't that great compared to my integrated motherboard soundchip.

Dolby and DTS HD form

Has anyone heard of new hardware coming out that will decode or pass along the new 7. HD audio formats from both Dolby and DTS?

J. Ok so I got it all working..... But if it can only be played at 48khz I thaugh 92khz is better. Cause I notice when I went from prologic 2 to just optical Digital I dont see that number on my uppper right pud it doesnt say on there 96khz anymore.... :\ So what is 48khz suppose to be better? Importing Dolby 5.1 from one DVD to another

I'm working on a DVD for an art show catalogue. It's pretty straight forward, just a main menu with the artist's names, and when you select an artist, you are shown their work (either photos, video, or just audio in a few cases).
One of the artists has sent us a source DVD of his sound-art piece which is in Dolby 5.1 - i.e. there is nothing in the "VIDEO_TS" folder, and the "AUDIO_TS" contains the following files:

AUDIO_PP.IFO
AUDIO_SV.BUP
AUDIO_SV.IFO
AUDIO_SV.VOB
AUDIO_TS.BUP

I need to somehow bring this audio from the source DVD into the catalogue DVD, while maintaining the Dolby 5.1 (surround sound is an important part of the piece). I am a total newbie when it comes to dealing with surround sound and I am completely ignorant as to how to do this. Any advice or steering in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the forum.
I've not dealt with AUDIO_TS folders at all but I would think the first thing you'll need to do is demux the Dolby 5.1 from the source DVD. To do this you'll need to open the AUDIO_TS.vob file in an app like BBdemux or MpegStreamClip - once again, I've not dealt with these type of .vob files so I'm not sure if either of these apps work with audio vobs. If not you'll have to do some hunting on the net to find one that can do it.
When you do eventually figure it out another thing to keep in mind is that you can't put 5.1 audio in Audio track 1 (this is a DVD spec thing) so you'll either need to make a Dolby 2.0 version for track1 (you have to have something there) or encode a silent audio track to put in its place in track 1.

Output 5.1 channels from mybook pro when playing a Dolby or DTS movie

My macbook pro is the model of 2008 and it won't output the 5.1 channel audio along the video from the HDMI cable connection to AVR, anyone know why this problem exists and how can I output 5.1 channels from my mac to the AVR to listen to surround movies played from the MAC pro

Buy a Mini-TOSLink-to-TOSLink cable to connect the headphone port of your MBP to the optical audio-in port on your receiver. In the Sound pane of System Preferences, click the Output tab and select Digital Out. Consult your receiver's manual for the correct audio input setting to select. Note that the receiver must allow you to select separate audio and video input ports for this to be possible. It may not be possible on some receivers; they may assume that audio will come in via HDMI if HDMI is being used for video, and not offer any other option.

T420 and Dolby TrueHD / DTS HD Master Audio Passthrough / Bitstream

I am having trouble getting Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio to bitsream from my T420 and hopefully you guys can shed some light. Currently I am using a displayport->HDMI adapter to input into my Pioneer Elite vsx-21txh receiver which in turn outputs to my 50" Toshiba TV. I can bitstream standards DTS and Dolby Digital no problem and get discrete surround sound, however when I try to play sources with DTS HDMA or Dolby TrueHD, the receiver doesn't recognize that there is a lossless signal and still decodes only the core DTS or DD.
I'm running windows 7, my receiver supports the HD lossless audio formats, and according to the "Playback device" properties on the T420's HDMI audio device, it also lists "DTS HD" and "Dolby TrueHD" under its encoded formats. My Nvidia driver is a bit old (268.71), however I don't think that is the issue...
Has anyone had experience outputting HD audio on the T420? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Might be the NVS drive they updated and I tested it recently after its been out for very long time. See my Thread on it which is still current.

AC3 Dolby files created from FCE to Compressor don't play in DVDSP

I've never had trouble with AC3 audio files playing in DVDSP until I started exporting from FCE through Compressor directly. AIFF files exported this way play fine, but are sometimes so large that the video+audio is too much for a DVD. This is why I like AC3 files, they are Dolby stereo, and they are way smaller, allowing me to use higher bit rates in Compressor for the video.
Now, when I export using Compressor and specify audio as Dolby 2.0 (AC3) the audio will not play in DVDSP. However, if I create an AIFF file at the same time it plays fine, and I can run the AIFF files back through compressor selecting AC3 output and those files work fine in DVDSP.
What gives? I'd like to be able to encode my audio as AC3 at the same time as I make my MPEG-2 file of the video, and then go directly to DVDSP. Any idea why this is happening, only when exporting from FCE directly through Compressor?

I found a series of bizarre workarounds that let me get AC3's from Compressor to work in DVDSP under my aforementioned configuration.
First, rather than using the "Export Using Compressor" option in Final Cut Pro, I used the "Export Audio As AIFF(s)" Option, creating a stand-alone AIFF of my timeline audio.
Next, I opened Compressor from the applications folder (again, not through FCP), and dragged the AIFF into the batch window. On the popup menu in the batch window, I selected "Audio Formats--> Dolby 2.0". I chose my destination and encoded. I did not change any settings in the Dolby 2.0 preset.
In DVDSP, if I clicked import in the assets window and selected the newly encoded AC3, it would show up in the assets bin, but the file STILL would not work. I removed the file from the assets bin.
Just for the heck of it, I opened a new finder window from the dock, found the file, and dragged it directly into the DVDSP assets bin. The file works!!! I couldn't believe it. Double clicking the AC3 in the finder with DVDSP open also places the AC3 into the assets bin, where it also functions properly.
I tried this procedure several times in a row and with several encoded AC3's to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and it wasn't.
So, again, clicking import for AC3's in DVDSP = BAD. Dragging AC3's right in the assets bin from the finder, or double clicking AC3's in the finder = GOOD.
The procedure mentioned above also *does not* work with AC3's made through one of the "DVD Presets" from Compressor. You have to take an **AIFF** into Compressor directly and send it out as an AC3 for it to work.

Ok this is my first post on this forum .. and i feel like i was forced 2 do this becouse :
I own a X-fi elite pro? and i've been trying to make dolby digital li've work on my sound card for about 6 month now ..
I thought if i have a visa and a foreign exchange bank account it will be fine .. trying 2 buy it
but it's not .. becouse when filling the form for buying dolby? nowere can i see Romania , i tryed filling in anotherr country but it keeps giving me errors
about the tranzaction that can't be done .
I also did send 2 mails to creative but looks like nowbody bothered to hel me ..in one and a half week.
my only solution is 2 sell this so called great sound card ,which it is but with the wright support from creative , and buy a auzen prelude x-fi , because as
far as i heard they sell u the dolby license when u get it.
By posting here I hope that somebody , maybe a forum admin or moderator , could help me resolve my problem becouse nowbody respondes to my mails? .

Request for THE dolby digital answer from Apple

My old set up was component video and optical into AV reciever. All worked well, HD movies had DD 5.1 soundtrack.
Now my new HDMI set up doesn't seem to send 5.1 across.
1. I have dolby digital set to on
2. I played a known DD HD film 'In Bruges' but no matter what could not pick up DD 5.1 via HDMI, my AV reciever Sony 2400ES (brand new model) just piccks up stereo
3. The soundtrack worked beautifully when sent via optical in full DD 5.1
4. I tried to select the 5.1 audio track via play/pause button which seemed like a great solution just in case both stereo and DD 5.1 were being sent via hdmi and confusing amp, but no selection option exists.
what worries me is the lack of response (that I can find) from apple on what as usual seems to be a huge amount of postings on this subject.
What would be handy Apple are:
1. A FREE dolby digital 5.1 movie/tv episode to 'play with' on with a selectable soundtrack option to allow you to check every option on your home cinema set-up without wasting £4-£5 every 48hrs. And I know the start up movie is said to be 5.1 but it lasts for a few seconds!!
2. A definitive answer on this issue
3. A difinitive LIST of movies and their soundtrack options, why does it take the pre buying screen to confirm/deny that the HD movie is indeed in 5.1, can't you use the same nomenclature as years and years worth of DVD covers, PUT Dolby Digital 5.1 and the little 6 speaker logo not just the double D's, which in DVD land usually just denote dolby stereo.
4. some administrator postings, I can't remember (apologies if wrong) seeing OFFICIAL responses in these forums, just loads of confused owners. And I remember a couple of years ago when my 80GB firmware update rendered my ipod dead, and it took WEEKS to find out how to fix it, which was a roll back until the new firmware was released.

This option only exists in 2.3 if you have extra audio tracks (e.g Director's Commentary, Alternate Language). If you have the "default" 2 tracks of AAC Stereo and AC3 then the Audio tab does not appear.

Again, no issues here with 5.1 over HDMI. You say you have a brand new receiver - perhaps the settings are not quite right on it to accept 5.1 over HDMI. Just a thought.
I can't see how a "known' film that plays in 5.1 over Optical but does not over HDMI be a problem for Apple. It's not like they can add "Do not send over HDMI" flags.
Yes, there is a big thread on AC3 not working with the 2.3 update, but that is down to the lack of AAC track on peoples own converted movies, and nothing to do with it being sent over Optical or HDMI. I don't believe Apple would be missing the AAC track on a movie they rent.

Dolby 5.1 from iTunes 8?

Is there a way to get Dolby Digital 5.1 surround from the new HD downloads in iTunes 8? Whenever I change the audio track to surround, the audio goes away completely. Windows Vista Media Center has no trouble sending Dolby 5.1 audio to my receiver.

After messing about with handbrake, VLC, Quicktime and itunes I found that quicktime / itunes does not support AC3 audio files. An Ac3 audio track is what most DVD's use for discrete audio separate channel surround sound. 5.1 tracks are ac3 and the only way to get a video on my mac to play these files was to encode with handbrake using ac3 passthrough for the audio with certain video codecs. Avi can have an ac3 track as an example but quicktime will not play them in surround but vlc did. I downloaded Dexter hd from the Apple store and if you hit "command i" you will see the info of what codec and audio track is in use by the video. Dexter in HD from the Apple store is only stereo, usually it's dolby prologic II which uses phasing to create a fake surround sound and sends audio to your surround system but it is not 5.1 discrete individual channels of audio like a dvd.
I don't have an apple tv I have a Power Mac g5 hooked up to my tv via dvi and optical for audio.
Apple announced that Apple tv does surround sound now.

After reading some other posts people are saying some movies come with AAC and AC3. I beleave in my tests using the latest Handbake that quicktime and itunes will now play the ac3 files but it down streams them into stereo or it defaults to the aac stereo track, so only the new Apple TV can playback AC3 true 5.1 surround.
People say the quick start up movie when you turn on the Apple tv plays some 5.1 audio. I think one of the facts are very few movies except for really new ones have the ac3 tracks. Even my Dexter dvd only has stereo sound which I thought was cheap of Showtime. So number one is you must have a movie or show that actually has an AC3 track and two I guess the only way to play them back is with Apple tv 2.0 or maybe VLC. I have yet to get a file from Apple that has an ac3 track but I don't buy that many shows or movies from Apple.
If any one can name a tv show that is in fact has ac3 5.1 on their Apple tv I would love to check it out and see if vlc will play it in surround, that could be a way to get your computer to play movies in 5.1 from apple without the Atv.
