No Dolby via MCE - Media Cen

Coping with this problem for 3 weeks now, I seek for help here. Here is my configuration:* Creative Labs DTT3500 DeskTop Theater Digital 5. Computer Speaker System Manual* SB Li've!Platinum Manual* PowerDVD 6.0?DeLuxe?I've connected the DTT3500 with the SB using the Digital DIN. By chosing the right settings on the DTT3500 and the sound card, I'm getting a clear test signal from all 6 speakers. Using PowerDVD, I'm getting a digital signal too. However, from the Media Center setup, I'm getting a strange stereo signal when I choose for the 5. option in the speaker configuration. I guess, I've tried already all possible combinations chosing SPDIF or 6 speaker configuration in PowerDVD; nothing hel
ps.
Does somebody any idea of the problem?Message Edited by DoktorBlue on 03-3-2006:55 AM

? You are needing to do AC-3 passthrough and you may want to use the Shark Codec Pack instead of K-Lite. Instructions for Shark's pack are here:

  • Captivate 8 does not detect Character files in eLearning Assets and will not insert them via the Media Image route.

The eLearning Assets directory was installed in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets\Characters_8_0.
When I attempt to insert a Character, Captivate 8 (on Windows 7) loads the gallery where they would normally be displayed but this is empty of thumbnails. It does however recognise that their are categories of Business, Casual etc.
Additionally, if I attempt to add any of the Character image files via Media>Image on the toolbar, Captivate 8 reports that the image is either corrupt or not of a supported format. Nevertheless, those very same image files will open in other applications without any problem.
I have tried a reinstall of the Adobe eLearning Assets but this has made no difference.
    Any ideas appreciated.

    Hi,
I've since discovered that batch processing the images with IrfanView (which is unusual in being able to actually open them) and resizing them (though I dont think this aspect id actually necessary) the images can be worked with in other Windows programs, can be added to a Captivate progect via the Media>Image route but still do not show up in the Gallery of Characters via Media>Characters.
This at least allows us to make use of the Character assets but is extremely time consuming as we need to resort to Windows' own thumbnail capabilities (Large Icons in Windows Explorer) to help make a 'quick' selection
My researches have uncovered a multitude of Adobe/png issues - with Photoshop etc. It would apperar that there are problems associated with both the quality (24 bit) and transparency (being lost or inaccurately interpreted.)
I don't think the images are 'corrupt' as such (they appear to be just 'Adobe'd') as I have installed and reinstalled the eLearning Assets package - both one that was downloaded several weeks ago and one that was downloaded just days ago.
If I encounter (or am provided with a complete solution I will post it here.
    Good luck in the meantime.

  • Audigy NX Remote & Windows Media Cen

Im lolking for Audigy NX but someone can tell me that can i use the remote of Audigy NX to control Windows Media Center.
    Thanks!

As far as I'm aware MCE isn't officially supported, I presume you are installing the standard XP drivers/CD, is that correct?
Just to rule out a simple problem, can you check if there is a light from the optical output (when you remove the little black button cover)? If there isn't, it means that either there is no power to the dri've, or that there might be a hardware problem. Check there are two cables going to the dri've, one is the flat grey cable from the card, and the other is a little power cable (like you would connect to a floppy dri've).

  • XFi, Vistax64, CMSS in Media Cen

Hi All, I have an XFi Extreme Gamer, with 7. Creative Speakers. I am running Vista x64 Ultimate. When I test speakers in sound settings I get sound from all speakers. My problem is I have set CMSS to upmix, but in Media Centre playing 5. DVD's (or Stereo TV) It does not upmix it to 7.. For example the middle right and middle left speakers do nothing when playing 5.. I have found some relevant information in the knwon Vista Issues post but the status says there is a team working on it. Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet or an ETA (or just a workaround will do to get it working ) The Vista audio architecture changes the way per-stream audio processing works, which required us to write new software to support this
    Issues that may be encountered:
CMSS no longer works on audio streams from the OS.
    Status:
Features based on Windows XP architecture must be rewritten to conform to the new Vista architecture, and we have a team of software engineers, project managers and testers dedicated to this task in order to provide our customers the same seamless audio experience under Windows Vista that they enjoyed under Windows XP. Thanks Diaf

If you're that unhappy with their products, why buy them? Contacting the big retailers isn't going to keep them from carrying Creative's Products.
I don't think they've just "hacked" the previous drivers as the audio is completely rewritten in Vista. I fear that Creative has taken the same approach as some other companies out there and figuring that normal consumers don't have 4Gb of ram.... Then again, normal consumers don't have x64 windows either.
Rember whem Bill Gates said that something like 64K of ram was more than anyone would EVER need? I seem to remeber by the end of that year, 28k was "Too Much"
I think the bottom line here is that if you aren't happy with their products, vote with your wallet -Buy something else. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with my Audigy 2zs's and X-Fi. I'm NOT happy with "Software" sound solutions, such as the onboard sound or Turtle Beach's cards; after all, they are only Via chips on a add-in card. Still software sound.

  • Playing music via Creative Media Sou

Hi, I've searched through this forum for an answer to this with no luck. Once I have songs loaded on my Zen Touch, can I play them through my computer (i.e., desktop speakers) via Media Source?
What I'd like to do is remove the music files from my desktop HD and simply connect the Zen when I want to listen to music. At this point, I can move files to the Now Playing list and play them, but the audio only comes through the headphones. I'd like to avoid having to unplug my desktop speakers. Oh, and I have successfully started up Nomad Explorer and "cut and paste" files to Media Source - is this the only solution? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Most likely your PC is USB. If it were USB2 it will buffer the files in MediaSource and play them on the PC. More here.
You can get the excellent freeware JBHTTP or the equally excellent shareware Notmad (with the Xtreamer function) which *should* play the tracks on your PC.Message Edited by SSR on 2-05-2004 0:28 PM

  • Why is DVD fuzzy made via iMovie,Media browser, iDVD at professional quality.  Original photos very sharp, DVD fuzzy.

I made an iMovie from very sharp photos, moved it to iDVD via Media Browser, Made "Professional Quality" DVD in iDVD.  When I play the DVD back on eiher my iMac oxs 10.7.5 "DVDPlayer" or my DVD player hooked to my Sony TV set, the resulting movie from the DVD is unsharp, very fuzzy and very disappointing.  I am using Memorex DVD-R discs.  The playback colors of the made DVD are also changed from the original photos I used from i Photo.
Is this normal to loose so much sharpness and clarity in going from iPhoto to iMovie to iDVD?

    Hi
OR the long long answer is something like this:
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD.
They drop every second line in the picture.
Go via Media Browser (and then use MEDIUM - as HD does get a BAD Scale down quality) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    - iDVD - set Burn Speed in iDVD Pref. / Advance - BEST IS NOT BEST - x2 or max x4
    - Roxio™ - set in burn process
    - Disk Util tool - set in burn process
    BEST IS NOT BEST
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc

Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk for SD-Video Quality and about 4 - 5 times more - if it is a HD-Project.
No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
Do not have more external devices connected as is of urgent need. Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - Or to be disconnected/turned off
Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo
First - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set pointer to this
Secondly - turns on screen saver
Then - to show that it has nothing to show
No File Vault on - Important
NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
Lot's of icons on DeskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
if a project is in a real hurry
First - Then Start a new User-Account and
Then - log into this and iMovie get's faster too
And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

  • Windows 10 Upgrade via Windows Media Creation Tool ; Clean Installation

I installed Windows 10 via Media tool in usp. I cleared my hard drive partition, the Recovery and System Partition, for me to be able to install Windows 10. It went smoothly until it asks for the product key. I had Genuine Windows 8.1 with bing, and I recently bought the laptop. Is there any possible way to obtain a product key? After all, Windows 10 upgrade is for free  for Genuine Windows and I had one.

Thank you for your reply. The machine I am writing you on is the machine. I cloned the drive . However I have a new drive I want to due a clean install on.  At first I needed a key. I have no idea where it is located. On the back of the machine next to the win 8 lable it says itis located in the battery compartment. There are quite a new numbers and letter combinations there but none of them say product key. Also I was told it is imbedded into the motherboard. Any ideas on that?

  • Live 5.1 and Windows Media Cen

I'm completely confused. I'm sure I have a SB Li've 5., but my Windows Media Center says I have a Li've Value. The Model is CT4760.
In either case, I'm trying to get Optical Audo to work with 5.. I can get 2 channels out of Optical Audio, but no more. The Creative software only gives me the options for headphones, 2 speakers and 4 speakers. With 4 speakers selected I still only hear 2. No where do I see an option for 5. or to allow AC3 passthrough.
I used this card before with a Linux system and I had 5. working just fine. Am I missing something? Do I not have a Li've 5. card? Am I installing the wrong thing? I downloaded the driver install from here, so I assume its correct. Media Center installs it's own if I don't use that, and it's also for the Value card.
    Thanks for any help,
    GamersCloset

CT4760 is actually..a 4 channel sound card (therefore, I think that's why Windows Media Center Editin detects it as Value card) But it does have 5. Digital Output (not analog)
I don't have hands on experience with MCE with me, but try this.
Go to 'Volume Control' in Accessories, click on Options and turn on 'Advanced Options'
There should be an 'Advanced' Button at the bottom of the master volume slider.
Click that and select "Digital Output Only"
Otherwise, you'll have to try to install the right drivers. Its definitely not SB Li've 5.
But since you are using Digital speakers, I dont think you have to worry too much.

  • BSOD with Media Cen

For a long time now I've been having BSoDs accompanied with loud static noise when Vista Media Center was recording and/or starting.Sometimes it wouldn't BSOD entirely, but just cause the loud and continoues static noise, and sometimes it would only make the static noise when other sounds were playing. I just lately realized it was caused by my X-Fi XtremeMusic card, and as soon as I disabled it (I didn't even have to remove it) it stopped BSoDing. Anyone encountered it as well, and perhaps managed to find a solution that doens't involve using my onboard soundcard, which sucks?

It could be a codec problem.
Do you have any issues when playing DVDs through Vista either in WMP or in MCE?
Have you got Nero or Power DVD running on your PC? If so they may have given their own codecs priority over the standard M$ ones or there may be a clash. If you use either of these make sure that you have the latest updates for Vista compatability.
In fact, many people prefer the image quality with Nero or Power's codecs but there's no easy way in Vista to select or change the codec that is used in Vista MCE. Download a util called VMCD.exe - this will allow you to select the video and audio codecs Vista will use.

You should end up with nothing but the picture with a border and the buttons below it. Again, it was a lightroom flash gallery. If you look on the website now, I substituted a simpleviewer gallery, so don't use that as a reference anymore. =P What it basically showed up as was the spinning loading circle, but it worked in lightroom fine. Although! It did Not work in Lightroom's Preview in browser. The page opened and remained blank without the loading symbol.

  • HMC150 Footage ok in PProCS4, but grey when viewing via Win Media Player

I just purchased an HMC150 and really like it and I am recording in 1080P 24 and pulling it into a 1080P/24 timeline.  I can edit and view the media no problem in Premiere with full color, but if I play the original raw AVCHD original files through Windows Media Player the video is Grey and if I export them from PPro to MPeg2 they are also grey...anybody have any ideas why this would be or how to correct it?

Good question, sorry I should have included all of that information.
I am running on an HPZ800 dual quad core with 36GB of RAM using PPRo CS4 (latest version) on Windows 64 bit.  I am not exactly sure which codec is going to be used in this case because I believe that there are 3 possible ones that could be used.  It appears that PPro is using it's own AVCHD codec which is probably why it works fine.  Windows 7 natively recognizes AVCHD, but I have two utilities installed on my system to download content from my cameras that may have also installed Codec's.  The first is one from Canon that comes with their camera's (in this case the HV30, that downloads AVCHD also), and the 2nd is the AVCCam application that comes with the Panasonic HMC150 to download content from that camera.  The AVCHD files from my Canon play just fine through Windows Media Player or Premiere Pro, but the HMC150 files only play in full color in Premiere Pro, not through Windows Media Player.  I agree it might be codec related, but not exactly sure the best way to track down the problem.  Thanks in advance for the help.

  • RM-900 and Windows Media Cen

Absolutely....just search around these forums and you will find your answer. That is all I am allowed to say.

  • Creative Media Source + Windows XP Media Cen

I have always used the Creative Media Source as an audio player and as a method of creating playlists etc.
I just recieved a New Dell XPS400 with a Dell installed Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. This machine has WinXP Media Center Edition installed as an operating system, for which I did a clean re-install. In reistalling the software from the Creative disk that was supplied with the computer I noticed that Creative Media Source was not included as part of the package. I further noticed that the in the download section of the website that this isn't an available download for the Win XP Media Center OS, even though it is available for Win XP Home edition.
Is there a compatibility problem in using the Creative Media Source with this OS ? Is there a conflict with the other Creative software that is typically installed with this card? In case it makes a difference; in playing back wav and mp3 audio files I am not interested in opening up the Win Media Center interface in order to play those files or create playlists, I simply want to associate those audio files to open and play with the Creative Media Source as I have always done with previous versions of Windows XP.
Thanks for any advice and clearification !

Hi m8. Just install the Windows XP version (Professional), and it will work, as I use Creative Media Source with Windows Media Center 2005, no problems. After, try the "product update" under support on the creative site, to see if there are any new things to update, just incase.

I have used Pages several times before for an in-house newsletter--with good success. My last newsletter was done in the version of Pages contained in iWork '06 and with photos contained in iPhoto library from iLife '06. Now I am using the version of Pages from iWork '08 and photos from my iPhoto library in iLife '08. When I am in Pages and open the Media Browser, I can see all the photos in various Events. How do I select/choose a particular photo within an Event and drag it to an image placeholder in my Pages document?

My Media Browser shows Events or Images. See below and see if yours is the same:
