No Drag and Drop?  No library adding?

I just started using iTunes and my Windows 7 machine. I had been using my Mac PowerBook, but it finally died.
So, I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from an online site. It's all in zipped folders on my desktop. I can't seem to drag and drop any of them into iTunes. So, I took the files out of the zipped folders and onto my desktop. Still the same problem. The only thing I've found to work was to click and play the song.
Also, it used to be on my Mac that if I played a song in iTunes it would automatically copy the file into my iTunes folder. This doesn't seem to be the case with my PC.
I have it checked off to keep my library organized. Not sure what else to do. Any help here??

Make sure the setting to "Copy files..." also has a checkmark, if you want them copied to the itunes folder.
I'm not sure why the unzipped files won't add to itunes unless you play them.
Are you sure they're unzipped? Or are you trying to drag them into itunes from the zip envelope?
Right-click > Show in Windows Explorer on one of those files that you played.
What folder is it in?

  • I am getting a "Internal error occurred" message when I try to drag and drop common library items on to my canvas.

    Hi,
I am getting a "Internal error occurred" message when I try to drag and drop common library items on to my canvas.
I have noticed that there are a number of these error messages and tried one solution of renaming a couple of files, I tried this and no joy.
Has any one go a solution for this before I purchase Fireworks please?
    Kind regards,
    Dave G

I can no longer get Firework CS6 to run - The program loads but without any toolbars/properties etc.  It just has an 'AN INTERNAL ERROR OCCURRED' message that cannot be dismissed.  The only way to close the program is via Task Manager (this is on a Window 8 PC).  I have uninstalled the program, rebooted the PC and re-installed (several times) but it has not resolved the problem.
Fireworks is part of my Creative Cloud subscription and when reporting this via the live chat I was given the telephone number for Seagate Drives ??
    Anybody got a solution?
Or, does anybody know how to open native Fireworks CS6 png files in Photoshop *but* with all the Fireworks layers preserved.
Think I'll also post this as a new topic as the problem is slightly different to SirBasher's issue.

  • IPhoto 09 picture drag and drop form library to an album results in incorrect picture dragged dropped

    Hi,
I think that my problem started when I installed ML...
When I import a picture in my library and then drag and drop the picture in an album (for example an empty one)... when I open the album, the only picture there is not the one I draged and dropped, but another one from my library... it's ths same when I repeat that for any other picture...
Any idea how to sort this

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Am I the only person who misses the drag and drop method of adding and deleting songs on iTunes devices?

I am constantly getting frustrated with the newer versions of iTunes because my different apple devices have different amounts of storage. I miss the days when I could drag and drop songs to various devices. I don't always want the same songs on all devices, so I don't like to sync because I sometimes lose something I want to keep on that device. I am just curious if I'm the only one who misses this feature or is there a way of doing this that I've just not found? Thanks.

In the Summary tab of iTunes - when the iDevice is connected to your Mac - select Manually Manage Music and Videos. You should be able to drag and drop.
If you don't see the sidebar and the device is syncing automatically, you can enable the sidebar from the ITunes Menu - View>Show Sidebar. The. You can click on your device name imder the devices heading, then click on the Summary Tab.
You can also disable auto syncing in iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing autonatically.
I never auto sync and never have. I select Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos in the Summary tab and I can still drag and drop songs. I can also select the albums, playlist, or artists that I want to sync by using this method.

  • Can't drag and drop from library in Flash 5.0a

Actually, I can drag items from my Flash 5.0a library--one, maybe two of them; then subsequent items refuse to stay on the stage and bounce back into the library.
I am not alone in this. Apparently it's always been a problem with Flash 5 on Macs (although not universally), even pre-OS X. Macromedia actually has a tech note on the problem (and imply it's the result of a Mac bug): http://www.macromedia.com/go/tn_14442
In this note they say "the cause of this problem is not known" but recommend trashing the invisible Drag file.
I've tried this; it doesn't improve on the one or two drags I can get each time I reboot my Mac.
Others in newsgroups report that starting Classic mode with the extensions off solved the problem. I tried this too. Once it seemed to work but then the problem returned.
I ran Disk Warrior. I rebuilt the Classic desktop. I reinstalled Flash 5 (from a legit disc, of which I am the registed owner). I updated 5 to 5.0a with MM's official download. I queried MM Flash Forum but have not received any replies.
Anybody got any other ideas? Thanks.

I was suddenly having the same problem in Acrobat XI Pro for Windows (recently upgraded to CC from Acrobat X).  For the past while I've sometimes had to use the "insert from file" tool to get a page added from another file.  I couldn't figure out why dragging sometimes would no longer work, but was too busy to go looking for a solution until tonight.
The solution was given by JoshTatum24 above. Switch from a scrolling page display to single page display.  Now I can drag pages between documents again.  THANK YOU Josh!
Oh, and CORREAdmin,  it does not matter whether the hand or arrow selection tool is active, my mouse pointer is always an arrow when positioned in the page thumbnails panel.  Switching selection tools does not make a difference in dragging, but switching between scrolling and single page display definitely DOES make the difference.

  • I am trying to transfer apps that are in my iTunes library to various devices through iTunes.  Music I can just drag and drop from library to device, but it will not let me do this for apps.  I'm updated to all the most recent version on devices/itunes.

The weird things is that under my device Apps is not listed.  This is true for both my ipad and my iphone.  I do not Sync either of my devices with itunes, but do back them up.  Thanks.

I'm guessing this is a problem unique to me as there have been no replies at all...  Thanks a bunch folks

  • Unable to share, export or drag and drop

    iPhoto Application (problems just started)
1)Can't drag and drop from library to desk top
    2)Unable to share or export
3)If library photo is double clicked I get a black frame with a "caution" symbol with ! point in center
4)In the picture menu bar there are framed pictures as well as black frames with a dashed white square symbol in center
What has or is happening? Is there any way to correct problem?
Had a recent diagnosis done on IMac. Was told failing power supply and failing hard drive. Have replaced the power supply.
Is above indication of failing hard drive?
Thanks to the Community in advance

    Unlikely.
This is a problem in the LIbrary and not the application. So reinstalling is unlikely to have any effect.
    Try rebuild the Library.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)

  • Overwriting Drag and Drop Interaction

I've got a Flash slide presentation with a drag and drop
learning interaction added. When I try to add a second drag and
drop interaction to the presentation, I get prompted to either
replace or don't replace the existing drag and drop, even though
I'm working on a different slide.
If I replace it, everything is lost. If I select don't
replace, all of the symbols on both of the interactions are linked.
I tried changing the symbol names but that hasn't solved it. Any
    suggestions?

Tell me about it! Same happened for me.
I ended up only using the 1 drag n drop in the quiz.
Since then I did think maybe creating a new layer and putting
the new one on that? But I haven't tried it.

Just found a reference to a work around to the issue by putting the macbook to sleep & waking it.  Worked a treat !
This makes it usable again.  Which is lucky as I was preparing to see how far I could toss the macbook !
Suppose I'll need to wait for a patch.

  • An mp3 file on my computer will not import to itunes by either the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method.  Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  My OS is Windows 7.

I purchased an mp3 from a private website on my laptop.  The itunes library i sync ipod to is on my desktop, so i copied the mp3 onto a flash drive and then into my desktop in the Downloads folder and Desktop folder as well as the itunes music folder, 3 places.  I opened itunes on the desktop and read the instructions for importing music that's already in my computer.  Neither the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method works.  I've tried both ways over and over.  Cannot figure out what the problem is.  I do note that the name of the mp3 file doesn't show the .mp3 extension, it appears as simply it's title, Eating Healthy, without any extension at all.  Could the filename be the problem, or do you have any other idea what I'm doing wrong?  My OS is Windows 7, using IE9.  Thanks.
ADDENDUM AFTER READING ANOTHER DISCUSSION HERE:  I have now tried right clicking the song in Windows Explorer and choosing Open With, clicking itunes.  The mp3 plays in itunes but does not add to the library.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.

  • I used to drag and drop newly loaded CD's from Recently Added to one of my iPod Classic playlists. I have no idea how to do this with the new version of iTunes. I thought perhaps checking Sync might give me a clue but it warned me Syncing would wipe conte

I used to drag and drop music loaded from CD's from the Recently Added folder to a Playlist on my iPods Classic. Can't see how to do this with new iTunes version. Probably need to sync somehow but when I checked on Sync it warned me it would wipe out my iPod contents. Don 't know why Apple makes something that used to be simple so difficult. Can't even figure out how to display both my library and iPod contents on same screen.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

    or here:

  • I recently installed iTunes 4.3 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore?

I recently installed iTunes 4.3.5 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore. Every time I try to drag the music from a folder into the library, that little circle with the line thru it comes up (not allowed symbol). I've been using iTunes for years and am pretty computer savvy... I have no idea what the problem is. The only way I can add music right now is if I go to File>Add File to Library and that takes way too long, especially when adding 20-30 songs. I am using Windows 7 and I have an iPhone 4. Please help! This is extremely frustrating.

    Francil3n3 wrote:

No, sorry... you did not.  There is no iTunes 4.3.5.
What did you actually install?  iOS 4.3.5 on your iPhone?  If so, this has NO affect on the ability to manually manage media via iTunes.
Let's start over... tell us exactly what has been done.

  • Had to reinstall iTunes after bad virus and now when I drag and drop song into custom playlist it won't added.  No green   appears, instead just the circle with slash.  What's going on?  a fix? Michael

I had to reformat after a bad virus and reinstall iTunes.  Now when I try to drag and drop a song into a custom playlist, it won't add the song.  Instead of the green + that is supposed to appear, it just shows the circle with cross slash.  I created numerous playlist before and never ran into this problem.  Any suggestions on how to fix it?  Thanks 1ngiri

OK, so I have now found that this is apparently normal for iTunes, to only accept mpeg 4 movie files, all the searching I did before I must have worded it wrong because I couldn't find anything about this, incredibly. Had been looking for why iTunes won't take all the files it previously did, like if it had been changed, and it hasn't, it's allegedly always taken only mpeg 4 files. Also I had been searching for why iTunes crashes every time I try and add/import anything but mpeg 4 files, and even sometimes with mpeg 4 files. That isn't normal, it's supposed to just do nothing apparently as I've just found out. So for these reasons I didn't find the answer despite my searching all over the web.
So I guess that answers my own question now, but I'm still perplexed as to why I absolutely, definitely, without any doubt, had several hundred movies of a few different video file types loaded, accessible and playable in my iTunes library that everything here claims iTunes never accepted. It apparently shouldn't have been possible for me to have done this, but for probably 10 years it's been this way.
Perhaps since I don't remember adding these files to iTunes anymore recently than maybe 6 or 7 years ago, the iTunes back then did accept all kinds of file types? Or could I have somehow had some video codecs or software that expanded the capability of my movie players like Quicktime Player that unwittingly also allowed iTunes to take those files as well? All I know is somehow it worked! So now my question is how did I have it working before, so that maybe I can make it work again.

  • Itunes 11 "add to library" not working (drag and drop too)

I just updated to itunes 11 and the add to library function is not working both manually and drag and drop.  I used to be able to add a video to the itunes media file, click add to library, click the file and it would pull it in to itunes.  None of this works including the drag and drop feature. The preferences folder is set correctly.....please help.
    brock

It appears movies added to iTunes manually (not purchased through iTunes), are automatically put in the "Home Movie" media kind/category. I don't remember this kind in previous iTunes, but maybe it's just not one I used. I've seen where this is due to using MetaX, but I don't think so as "Home Movie" is not an option in MetaX. I cannot find any option in iTunes preferences to change this. Maybe Apple will change this in an update - I hope so. For now, I just go in and manually change this in the movie Info setting. I keep all of my movies in digital format, so this is a bit of a pain.

Nothing is going to stop you from dragging it in multiple times, but what exactly are you trying to do?  Are you trying to get iTunes to look through the folder and pick up newly added song files?
