No drag n drop mail address

Before Snow Leopard I could drag n drop the email address from a mail window into the search field of the main window.
Since Snow Leopard it doesn't work anymore. Is there a workaround to get this feature back?
Movie can be shown at: http://www.macstitch.com/downloads/Drag-n-Drop.mov

What is it you're trying to drag?
You can drag any supported file format icon onto the QuickTime Player icon and that file should open.
It would be the same as using the File menu to "Open File...".

  • Can't drag and drop from Address Book to Mail?

    Hi,
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this. Does anyone know what's up with this? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Are you dragging from the actual AddressBook application, or the Address icon you can add to the NewMail and Reply toolbars in Mail?  (It ought to be there by default, but isn't).
Either should work, but if AB doesn't, try the icon method:

  • Drag and drop Mail saving

    Hi All
Is there a way of drag and drop mail saving err.. within mail.
Let me explain I use Entourage simply because I can select all the messages (in any of Entourages folders) and drag them onto finder and it create individual mail files. Though this can't be done by default in mail I wonder if there is a work round. I know you can select all your emails in mail and do a save as but this save all the emails as one chuck of text. Plus the Entourage version saves your attachments within the individual files.
    Cheers

It's actually much worst than that.  THe MOVE command works only intermittently to move blocks of messages.  This is true for both the MOVE button in the toolbar and for attempting tm move by using the control-click menu for a selected group of messages.
Mail 5.2 under Lion does not fail in this way.  I am running two systems with the same collections of mail on each.
I moved back to Apple Mail because of the end-of-life status of TBird. TB has lots of bells and whistles that make for easy use and it has handled by 30K/6.5GB mail collection without difficulty.  It also provides a lot of features that Mail does not have, including very helpful statistics during operations.
I looked at a variety of Mail replacements inculding all the commercial stuff.  But nothing really dominates the marketplace andl the vendors seem frail.  It's clear that the big money is in cloud-service e-mail handling, not apps to run on machines you own and control.
I imagined that Apple developed and maintained software would be more reliable and sustainable in the long run. It is distressing that the company's test and QA processes did not catch this but I suppose that Apple too is planning on letting Mail wither as their cloud service gains users and market share.  Why sell an app once when you can charge a monthly fee for the service.  It's perhaps cheeky to say but the cloud isn't a technological model it's a business model.

  • Drag and drop an Address Book card onto a Pages address field

Whenever I "drag and drop" an Address Book card onto a Pages address field, it hangs for almost a minute before the address appears. I don't believe this is normal, does anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like you "upgraded" to Pages 5.
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Drag and dropping an address from address book to the desktop, the address file does not go where my mouse is positioned.

If I drag and drop an address from address book to the desktop, the address file does not go where my mouse is positioned. It winds up somewhere in the middle of my screen. Any way to have the address file land and stay where my mouse pointer is?

You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there.
Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

  • I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1...I used to be able to drag and drop contact addresses from my address book to an e-mail header.  Now I have to type all the names and can't drag and drop.  Is there a setting for this?  Thanks!

I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1.  I used to be able drag and drop names from my address book into the address header, but can no longer do that.  I now have to type each name in.  Does anyone know if there is a setting for this or is it a feature of the updated software?  Thanks for any info!

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.

  • Why can I not drag-and-drop email addresses into Address Book?

I've used today the email client and the email address autocompletion feature figured out nicely the email addresses of the recipients I wanted to send the email to. So far so good. However, when I've selected all addresses in the To line, I would have liked to be able to drag-and-drop them into the Address Book application, automatically have new entries created there and why not a new group too?

No, that is not possible. However, [Mail Scripts|http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html] has a script to add every address to the address book, allowing you to pick which ones go to which group and to add a new group, if you want.

  • I am unable to drag an e-mail address to another folder on some occassions

I have my customers e-mail addresses broken into several alphabetical folders. I have a collected address folder that whenever I e-mail someone, their e-mail address is stored in that folder. I then drag the address from the collected folder to the correct alphabetized folder, but sometimes it will not show up in that particular folder. I am however able to sometimes drag it to the next folder down, but it is not in the correct alphabetical order. What would cause this and how can I fix it? Someone is more than welcome to call me at 757-428-3726 during the week from 10-6 Eastern time, or e-mail back at [email protected] Very frustrating. Thank you in advance.
    Brian

When an address book doesn't accept additions or deletions, it is probably corrupted. The usual remedy is to export it to an LDIF file, delete the associated mab file from the profile, then import the LDIF:

  • Drag and drop mail attachments

With the new version of mail Version 8.0 (1990.1) (Yosemite) I cannot drag and drop attachments to Finder like in the previous version.
Rather, I have to select the attachments, save attachments as, then locate the folder etc in Finder to complete a previously very simple action.
Is there a setting to re-enable this?
As I organise dozens of attachments every day, the former process was much more time-effective.

I seem to have solved this problem, which was that my daughter (on Windows) could not save attachments that I sent her in emails, and had other problems.
    My solution is:
    1. Mail > Edit >Attachments: Check "Always insert attachments at end of message".
    2. After composing the text of a message in Mail, drag your image or its icon on to Mail's window and drop the icon at the end of the message. Voila (for me at least). If you drop the image icon at the top of the text, the image gets transmitted but not the text (!!!) (Ain't Apple wonderful!).
    3. My daughter sees the image, opened, at the bottom of the message and by Right-Clicking on it she can save the image (she typed .jpg after the image title and got a jpg.)
    Hope this works for you.

  • Drag and drop mail to mailboxes not working

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, when I attempt to drag and drop an e-mail message from my inbox to another mailbox (folder), has stopped working.  I can still move mail to different mailboxes from the Toolbar / Message / Move to.
I'm using Apple Mail 6.0.  I've looked, but do not see any functions in Mail Preferences or Mailbox functions that enables or disables this feature.  Am I looking in the wrong place or missing something?
    Thanks, Terry

  • Can't drag and drop email addresses into Mail's search field

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I am no longer able to grab an email address from "To:" and "CC:", and drag it to the seach field in Mail. The green + sign shows up like it's going to add the address, but when I release the mouse button, the search field is left blank.

... and re-typing the whole address works for my Mom. I, however, prefer increased functionality with my upgrades, not the other way around.

  • Drag and Drop Mail attachment won't work stable since 10.9

    Hi,
this problem occurred on my system after upgrading from 10.8 to 10.9 and is still present under 10.10.2 (besides the well known WIFI issues that weren't cured at all with 10.10.1 nor 10.10.2)
After some time of work, I'm not able to copy attachments from mails into new mails or in finder by simply dragging. The mouse cursor won't grab the files any more as if this feature was never present.Restarting Mail.app will help for some time but the error reappears.
I've checked system.log and was able to identify the following log as soon as the bug appears.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • How to Drag and drop Mail message in Calendar event in Yosemite

    Hi,
I am not sure if this has already been answered or if Yosemite Mail is missing one cool feature. In Mavericks and before, it was every easy to drap and drop a email message to a calendar event in the "URL" attachment section where it appeared as "Show in Mail..." in the event. But now, I don't find this drap-and-drop feature anymore?
The other alternative is to create a event from the Mail message content if there is a date (like 12/12/14) specified. But what about messages which do not have dates in them but I still want to attach the email to a calendar event?
Please chime in if others are also experiencing the same pain in Yosemite or if there is any other easier trick?
    Thanks!

  • Drag and drop from mail to address book not happening

Hi guys, I can no longer drag email addresses from Mail into Address Book. The address just bounces back. I've repaired permissions, installed the latest security update, repaired permissions again, rebooted twice. Any ideas?
    Mail 4.5. Address Book 5.0.3 (883). Mac OS 10.6.8. MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, 666MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

Hi mbriscoe, I've since upgraded to Lion and the same downgrade of functionality exists. I can no longer drag and drop an address from Mail into Address Book. I now have to click name, wait for menu, select Add to Address Book, go into Address Book and find the name I just added, then drag the name into the specific group I want it to be in. It used to be very useful, the drag and drop, in an "it just works" kind of way. Now it's not.
