No DVD device present

With a movie DVD inserted into my Mac Book, I just tried running DVD
Player and got the following error message:
There was an initialization error
A valid DVD drive could not be found.[-70012]
Looking under Disc Burning in the hardware profile, I see:
No burning device was found. (etc)
Pressing the eject key has no effect. Holding down the trackpad button
while rebooting does not eject the DVD.
I'm confused. Help?
Josh
Mac Book Pro 1.83GHz

From the manual:
If you can’t eject the disc, quit any applications that might be using the disc and try again.
If that doesn’t work, restart the computer while holding down the trackpad
button.
So if the above works and you are able to finally get the disk ejected, then I would consider doing a few restarts and giving it a few more tries, maybe with a different disk or with a CD.
If you just can't get it working at all, then you'd better take to an apple store or send it in.
Has your MacBook ever been able to read any disks (CDs or DVDs)?

  • Hyper-V 2012 Gen 2 VM SCSI DVD device fails to boot from iso files

I am running Server 2012 R2 in Hyper-V Server role for my home lab. I am trying to create a gen 2 vm, with Server 2012 R2 iso loaded in the SCSI DVD device, but every time I try to start the vm it fails to start with the following error:
This is the current settings for the vm:
This error occurs with any iso file loaded into the SCSI DVD device, and the error occurs even if creating a new vm from scratch. I have seen several similar gen 2 vm boot issues posted, but none with the exact issue that I'm having. The iso files all
work fine when creating a gen 1 vm.

    Hi Kaedron,
Maybe the UEFI files is broken and you need to download a new ISO to retry .
Here is a download link for windows server 2012 R2 evaluation :

  • Windows 7 Setup with SP1 unable to continue because of missing CD/DVD device drivers

I am trying to do a clean Windows 7 install on my T61p after slipstreaming  SP1 and have two problems:
When I ran the new disc, Wndows 7 setup could not continue because 'CD/DVD device drivers were missing'. I found this odd because when I installed Windows 7 using the original Lenovo Windows 7 Upgrade Media (used to make the SP1 disc) no drivers were missing; and
When I reverted back to the original (non SP1) media windows setup could not install to the selected partition because of an error, which was something like 0x8000031?

    Hi,
That's a not-very-helpful catch-all error message.  It can mean a lot of things, most of which are not a missing CD driver.
It's usually caused by a bad download, a bad burn, or maybe in your case a failure in the slipstreaming process.
    Z.
Thanks. Yes I found so many references but deep among them a microsoft one referring to a bad burn or low quality disc. So I tried the burn but this time with the DVD RW in the Ultra Bay rather than USB which I assumes means it was a lot faster and everything has worked fne. Thanks

  • DVD Device not recognised as a DVD Device

    Hi,
I am having a very annoying problem.
Since installing arch (quite a while ago) I have not been able to use my DVD device for DVDs.  It is recognised as a CD-ROM only, whereas it is really a DVD reader / CD burner (not dvd burner).  I have been able to use this for reading dvds on windows, then when i used to be on ubuntu.  Arch doesn't see it properly.
When Arch loads, i notice Universal CD Device Driver or something, version 3.20, is loaded for hdc (my device).  I think it is not recognised properly.
I have tried manually mounting different devices, checked dmesg for any changes between reading a dvd and reading a cd (no new lines in dmesg when a dvd has been inserted).  It is really, really strange and I do not know what to do.
Can someone please help me?  I can download the drivers for my device (windows tho) if that helps.
Any response is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

yes I have that, no difference.  I think it is a problem with the firmware that is flashed onto the device itself, or something like that.  is there a way to flash firmwares in linux?  all the toshiba firmware installation things, or the rpc1.org stuff are all for windows.  how can i do it?
or, if there is a way, i'd like to reset to the original firmware, is there any possibility of that?

  • Where can I find drivers for dvd device?

    Hi guys,
Hi want to install Windows 7 but when I am running setup windows asks for drivers for dvd device.
Where can I find these drivers or how can I install windows 7?
I know hp does not support serie tx1000 in windows 7 but I have seen people who installed that OS.
    any help will be usefull
    thanks!

I just got off the phone with a new case manager named Jamie 1-877-917-4380 ext 93 regarding new case number 7501359724, and of course just what I expected he would say, HP has no known issue with the tx series and no issue with the Nvidia 6150 chip.  He said that its just a coincidence that 1000's and 1000's of owners have experienced overheating motherboards.  That despite the same symptoms of other hp laptops and their recall proceding a huge lawsuit with Nvidia admitting they had sold hp defective chips, the tx/ 6150 nvidia was not one of the defective chips.  After reading the lawsuit details I found that Nvidia never released a list of the exact defective chips just that there were some, and then settled with hp.  Hp for some reason or another made a list of the so called defective ones and left many of the additional defective ones including the tx series/ Nvidia 6 series chips off the list.  Maybe there are not as many of us that own it, so as a business move they felt they could get away with this, or maybe because the failure typically hits a month or two after warranty expires.  I even looked up the chip by itself and found that the same Nvidia 6150 chip was used in certain Dell notebooks and had an issued recall relating to its defect.  Yet Jamie from Hp clearly stated that there is no known defect and that I would need to pay 400.00 USD and get the mother board replaced. I told him that I wasn't going to do that, why would I spend 400 dollars to have a new defective mother board intsalled to fail again.  He assured me that it wouldn't be an issue because the new mother boards have a different set of chips due to the issue with the old chip.  What is that about?  Does he think I am stupid, they say there is no defect in that chip, so they wont take responsability but they admit there is an issue with the chip, what is the difference?  They change the word defect with issue and that excuses them from any liability in providing a product capable of delivering expectations and quality of its class.  I personally wont settle for this. I wont settle for less than a refund or a new equall value notebook free from defect with an extended warranty.  To all of you others with this model of notebook i suggest you do the same, don't give up on your right to defend your hard earned money.  Look up Nvidia 6 series chips and you will find many companies that have disclosed its defect and taken responsability to their product owners.  Hp needs to do the same. Shame on HP  I had to edit this because they keep deleting my posts to cover up there secret, you can try and follow the trouble shooting tips, but it wont work, the graphics card has burned up and is killing your mother board.  A company invested a lot of money only to realize they can either lose a lot more money or they can brush it under the rug at the expense of their customers, and so they try to sustain profitability, by hiding the truth.  I suggest you buy a msi netbook, it has no frills but I promiss it will last, msi knows how to make a strong motherboard and stand by their products, no use in buying a fancy computer when it will only tease you with 13mons of life.  I am sorry that myself and all of you put your hard money and trust into a product that was probably knowingly doomed before it was even sold to us. Just remember that in this economy even a large company that you think you can trust can't be trusted, MONEY trumps the consumer!!

  • T520 will not use any DVD Device

    Folks,
I was going to do a backup, when I noticed the DVD player was no longer showing under My Computer.
I when into the device manager, where it showed with a yellow X .. I tried updating the device driver, it said I already had the correct device. I did several other things - nothing worked.
I really wanted to get the backup done, so I took my portable DVD player/writer and connected it. The laptop found a device loaded OK ... but it did not show up under My Computer. I was the same issue as the internal DVD player.
Then I took a USB external Passport drive, connected to the same USB port, no issues .. It mounted the drive and I performed the backup.
My T520 will not use any DVD device ... any Ideas ?

True, somehow this area goes south now and then. Last time I used it was on an old XT system of someone. He had some techs try to fix his machine and couldn't. I had it working in half an hour altering the keys. LOL
You know there are exceptionally few KUDOS given on this forum for some reason and given the number of posts some people give or respond to. The great majority of posters just don't know or read it exists. Anyway good to see you up and running again.

  • Encore  CS3- Domain User  DVD Device Permissions Problems

Encore is unable to see DVD Device and the Adobe utility only corrects for Local computer accounts and not domain accounts. The network administrator must setup an additional account (Local)to the computer that all Premier/Encore user must now log off there domain account and then login to local account so that they are able to burn there project to DVD. I was told by adobe support that they cant help because it works via a local account and that the issue is a domain issue and not an issue with there software. Is there a reg. hack that one could use to correct the problem with Premier/Encore to use windows xp security to allow the application the same permissions that windows give the Domain local user.I was also told by Adobe support that maybe if I had gold support they would maybe have a tech group who could handle network related issues with there software but he was not sure. This would be great to get resolved after buying a site license of the Master collection for a school
    Thank You
    Allan Shaw

Every message concerning networks is that Encore (and Premiere) are not designed to run on a network... so they mostly do not
I've also read that a non-Administrator user account is usually not going to work well... if at all
The simple fact is (from what I've read in these forums) that Encore and Premiere are written for ONE user on ONE computer... and anything else may work by accident, but not by design

  • How do I scan and detect the NI PCI devices present in the system like 4060 DMM and PCI 6511 etc?

    Hi there,
I would like to scan the devices present in the system every time when the software starts.
This will help me to prompt user if a particular device is not present or is bearing a different device number than the one used in the software.
    For this system I'm using PCI4060, PCI 6511 and DIO96. I am using LV7.0 and Win 2K & XP.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
you can make a scan of all the Daq devices by using the function: Get DAQ Device Information.vi that you find under the: Traditional Daq - calibration configuration palette.
See BD image attached. It scans for 16 devices and return a list of the found.
This seems to work only for Traditional Daq-compatible devices, no problem for PCI 6511 and DIO96.
I don't know if it works for the multimeter also; if not, you can make a basic call to the device at the beginning of the program and check for errors.

  • S20 DVD devices under Win7 vs Linux?

We plan to buy to buy a ThinkStation S20 and use it to dual boot Linux and Windows 7.  The S20 is offered with two different sets of optical devices.
S20's ordered with DOS (presumably for use with Linux) are offered with
"Lenovo 16x DVD ROM (DOS)" and
"Lenovo 16x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer (DOS)"
S20's ordered with Windows 7 are offered with
"Lenovo 16x DVD ROM (Windows 7)" and
"Lenovo 16x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer (Windows 7)"
My questions:  How do the DOS and Win7 versions of the DVD devices differ? More important, which version is needed in order to run properly with both OS's?  Is there some kind of Win 7 specific firmware in the Win 7 versions?
I phoned sales; he did not know and transferred me to tech support.  Tech support confirmed that they are different part numbers; that the DOS version is labeled (in their internal listing) as being for "DOS/Linux"; and (most important) their listing says that neither one is a substitute for the other.  Beyond that, they could give me no info to help determine whether to get the DOS or Win7 version of the DVD (whether regular or Dual Layer).
    Thanks .... Mark

    welcome to the forum!
the DOS/linux units are certified for DOS and linux use.   drivers for these units are available one way or another.
i had a "DOS" DVD/RW in my D10 and it worked fine under server 2008 and 2008 R2.   i suspect you won't have any issues with one of these drives should you run windows 7.

  • Cd dvd device

I owe a a1305-26872. I cannot use the cd/dvd device at all. the d: unit does not appear anywhere, nor in the computer icon or in the system specifcations. what can i do?

I guess we'll assume those links provide "clean" install images.
Do you still have the original Win 7 installed on your machine?  If so there's a utility there (Rescue and Recovery) that can be used to burn your own Lenovo factory recovery media set.  That's how they get away with not shipping media with the machine.
Are you trying to move from 32 to 64 bits?  That's a different deal.  Maybe find a friend with a MS install DVD?

  • Mplayer and DVD device

    Hi,
seem to have hit a strange problem with mplayer and DVD playback.  When I run mplayer with
    mplayer /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 dvd://
everything start fine, and then is quits saying, basically, it cannot open the drive.
After much mucking about it seems that the problem was that there was no /dev/dvd and when I added the link all was fine.
I also found the same problem in gmplayer even after changing the settings to point to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0.
I must have missed something here, so if anyone has any ideas that would be great.
    Thanks
    Jon

    you should have run
    mplayer -dvd-device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 dvd://

  • No ATA device present?

I have a macbook 2007 with a disc drive issue. I can put a cd or dvd in the drive, and it accepts it and spins it, but nothing is coming up on the desktop. And i cannot eject the disc either with the eject button or the manual ways i've read about (holding down the trackpad button during startup, the credit card method, etc.)
I've restarted several time and I've attempted reseeting the power management. no change.
I should also state that this is a drive that i have recently installed. the old one was bunk, and I have replaced it with another used one. However, it was working properly when I installed it. I have since having this current issue, gone back in a made sure everything is connected properly.
Under the system profile it shows under ATA that no ATA device is present, and a similar message is showing under disc burning.
is there any hope for this one, or do I need to blow more money on this thing?

Wolczk, it was taken from a little bit newer model supposidly. The mackbook has a Serial-ATA hard drive. The optical drive shows up under hardware>ATA.
thraex, I woudn't be surprised. However, i have taken it apart for the third time and removed the drive and reinstalled it, and now it seems to be working. So i guess I didn't have it plugged in all the way or something. No clue.
    thanks for the responses.
