No DVD Dolby Digital surround sound in media player or media center in Windows 7

I mirrored my working config from my Vista 32 bit install into my Windows 7 64 bit install and a Windows 7 32 bit install, but can't get the Dolby Digital SPDIF coax output to work (just get static) in my Windows 7 install when playing a DVD.
Notes:
- Both Vista and Windows 7 are on the same PC, but on different partitions of the same hard drive.
- standard stereo output works fine in Windows 7
- Dolby Digital and DTS do work in Windows 7, but only in the Sound config window, not in any program.
I have the latest Creative Audigy 2 ZS Soundblaster Windows 7 drivers installed (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series driver 2.18.0011).
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Dolby Digital / DTS output to work Windows 7 when playing a DVD?
MY PC SPECS:
CPU : Intel® Pentium® D 820 Processor (Dual-Core)64-bit processor with Intel® EM64T Technology. Each core operates at 2.80GHz | 2 x 1MB L2 cache | 800MHz FSB
Chipset : Intel® 945G DH (Viiv™)
Memory : 2GB DDR2 dual channel, 533MHz (PC4200)

Hi,
Thank you for posting.
Please try the following to check the S/PDIF device:
1.    Go to “Control Panel\Hardware and Sound” and click “Sound”.
2.    In the opened dialogue box, switch to the “Playback” tab, right-click on the box listing the current devices, select Show Disabled Devices and see if the item “Digital Audio (S/PDIF)” will appear. If it appears, please enable it and set it as Default Device and see if it works.
Considering the issue is related to the specific hardware, it is also recommended that you contact Creative and see if they have any constructive suggestions.

  • KDL 55W800C Android TV apps not getting 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound

Just bought KDL-55W800C Android TV few days ago. Everything is great except the DD 5.1 surround. I am using optical audio out to a STR-KS360 receiver. I get 5.1 with Telus Cisco CIS430 PVR connected to TV no problem. But when I tried Netflix, Play Movies and USB test MP4 on the TV. They are coming through as 2.0 only. BD connected to TV also only come through as 2.0 only while BD connected to receiver gives 5.1. Is this a known problem? There seem to be similar threads on other models. E.g. https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultra-HD-TV/XBR-75X850C-Netflix-Amazon-dolby-digital-5-1-channel-support/m-p/509054/highlight/true#M4168

That sounds more logical, however, Apple and Netflix are pointing at each other.
The player needs to be compatible with Dolby Digital Plus, so that would ultimately put the responsibility on Apple. However, DDP for streaming 5.1 surround sound from the Internet is relatively new, so it doesn't surprise me that the ATV doesn't currently support it, but I would expect Apple to release a software update for it at some point.

  • Dolby Digital Surround Sound dropping out with channel chang

Currently I have my cable box hooked up to my extrenal I/O box for my Audigy Platinum Pro ZS2 via my cable boxes SPDIF optical out to the I/O boxes optical in. With my initial set up I went to the AudioHQ and changed my Device Controls/Digital Input controls to SPDIF (Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-In Decode) and I had beautiful surround sound, but the only problem is that when I change the channel I lose all sound and I have to go back to the AudioHQ controls and change the Digital Input setting back to the (Default) setting and then change it back to the SPDIFDolby digital....etc, and then the sound comes back. So why is it that whenever I change the channel I lose my optical connection?and sound?and have to reset my Digital Input settings in order to get the sound back?Somebody please help...thanks. Jacob

  • Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3?

    Hi All
Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3? I got an exception that 'Decoder is not available' when I played m4a file on windows xp sp3(it didn't work on vista either), but it works fine on windows 7 , so I guess Javafx media player needs some system dependencies or resources when it plays media files, do you have any suggestions for this ?

To allow playback on Windows XP, you need to install the correct software in addition to JavaFX.
Once the system has been upgraded to meet the minimum requirements for playback of a particular type of video encoding, then playback should work fine.
See the JavaFX Media portion of the JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-2/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-2.htm
Note, m4a is just a container file and data streams inside the container format need to match a supported JavaFX format for playback to work:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/media/package-summary.html
    Some approaches you could take:
    - additionally encode the media in VP6 format and fallback to VP6 playback if H.264 playback fails.
    - use a 3rd party player like VLC.
    - don't bother supporting Windows XP video playback.
    - direct a browser to a divx install page if playback fails (http://www.divx.com/).

  • Digital surround sound

I've got a question about the Mac Mini and surround sound that's pumped through a TOSLINK connection. I've been contemplating a home theatre with a Mac Mini as the brain of the home theatre. Likely using Plex as the platform.
Media tanks, such as Popcorn Hour, support various audio codecs (ex: DTS, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR, Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus) via Audio pass through. I assume this means that the device will just pass along the audio to an surround sound amp/decoder and let that do the work.
Will a Mac Mini (or any other Mac for that matter) be able to do the same? If I have a collection of HD videos, with the Mac Mini hooked up via optical to an amp/decoder, are there digital audio formats I'm not going to be able to play?
I've read that the Mac Mini can only pump out 5.1 - that's not a big concern to me as I'm probably only going to have a 5.1 set of speakers anyways.

    B Summers wrote:
I knew the Mac was lacking Blu-Ray, but I wasn't aware TOSLINK wasn't -inherently- able to do Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD or DTS HD. I guess when the Mac finally gets Blu-Ray, Apple will use DisplayPort as the way to get both HD video and audio out.
5.1 will probably be more than enough for my purposes. I haven't come across any movies or HDTV shows that were encoded 7.1 HD audio anyways. And I plan on buying a separate Blu-Ray player anyways... and that -will- support the really high-end stuff.
Has anyone here built their own HTPC? I've been looking into it, but all I've found have been both more expensive and MUCH bigger and uglier than the Mac Mini.
Not to mention not as easy and nice to use as the Mac Mini.
Maybe once Snow Leopard and QuickTime X comes out, Apple will update the AppleTV with full HD video and audio specs, and support for more codecs/containers... and allow the **** thing to play videos in my Movies folder - not just what's in iTunes. Probably a pipe-dream, though.
I have been steering clear of Blu-Ray for now it's "a bag of hurt".
Regarding the Apple TV, it is definitely not powerful enough to play full 1080p (as per Blu-Ray content), even when you use something like Plex which is far more efficient than the current QuickTime software. There are continuing rumours of new Apple TV hardware, maybe then...
I currently use a Mac mini running Microsoft Media Center 2005!, and have just setup multiple Mac minis running Plex for a friend. I am considering on adding either Mac minis running Plex for myself, or possibly Apple TVs running XBMC and Boxee.

  • Where is the power dvd dolby digital ex dts download?

can anyone tell me where to find the download for dolby digital dts power dvd for x fi extreme gamer soundcard? is this lost in cyberspace? please help me find my way. thanks, Andy.

When you play a movie the thing i like about the xfi soundcard is a small feature that creative introuced it tells me the audio stream its playing (an icon at the bottom near the clock) and it only displays for a few seconds.
Most moi'ves i brough advertise Dolby digital EX or DTS ES. When i play them i find mostly the creative decoder tells me otherwise. The creative decoder identifies the stream and displays it at the bottom and i find that most movies that advertise the DTS ES or DD EX are not Dolby digital EX or DTS ES but just dolby digital 5. or DTS 5.. The only movies i have so far that are dolby digital EX are starwars episode 5 and 6 (despite ,2,3 and 4 claim to be but not), the punisher, and the only DTS 6. so far is top gun (my movie collection is small as well). but unless the creative decoder is identiftying the audio streams wrong which i doubt i so far. only some of my movies state the correct audio stream on the dvd.
Have a look at the icon that appears when playing the movie and see if it says either dolby digital, dolby digital ex, dts surround or dts surround es, if its displays either Dolby Digital EX or DTS Surround ES then they are 6. streams if they are not then they are 5. which might be why your not hearing anything out the back speaker.Message Edited by Stargazer on 0-06-2006 :5 AM

  • View Log Function on Palm TX opens in Windows Media Player, instead of a new window.

    hi,
when i clicked on "view log" after a hot sync operation a few hours ago, it brought up windows media player which, of course, could not display it. this is the first occurrence. i am using a palm tx with desktop version 4.2 and a hot sync version of 6.0.1. Strangely, view log opened up on my handheld as it has done many times. i closed the hot sync program, then opened it, and tried a hot sync--no go, media played still opened.
i'm running the palm program on an IBM Thinkpad, with windows xp pro, SP2.
thanks, in advance, for your advice.

Your computer has a File Association problem.
The HotSync log file on a PC has an extension of .htm.  Somehow, your computer has associated Windows Media Player with that type of file.
Open My Computer, then pick the Tools tab.  Choose  Folder Options, then the File Types tab.
Scroll down to the HTM file extension, and see what program is associated with it.  I'm betting it says Windows Media Player.  Tap the "Change" button, and pick the web browser program you use (mine is set to FireFox).  Click the checkmark in "Always use this program" then click OK.
    Now it should open correctly.

  • How do I open Windows Media Player 11 in a new window via labview 8.5 using ActiveX

    Hello,
Although familiar with Labview, I am new to the ActiveX Controls. I have managed to open and play movie files in Labview with ActiveX controls but the player is embedded in Labview's front panel. How can I control what file is played and when it starts in Labview but have Windows media player 11 open in a separate window.
Additionally, where can I find a description of the ActiveX properties.
    Thank you

I'm trying to accomplish this same thing and am having a hell of a time finding the right Class, right Methods, and/or right Properties for a solution.  Some classes seem to return obscure errors when I try to create them use the invoke node "launchURL" (the WMPLib.ICore for example).  If I use the Player base class (which MSDS says is the root class and the class that is used when you create an embedded player) I don't get anything.
What I would like is to progmatically launch Windows Media Player to play a particular video clip in full screen on the secondary monitor.  It seems like this should work:
But doesn't... any ideas for this?  The C# examples are difficult to understand for me.  Also, the WMP class library is a MESS! (IMHO).  Thanks for your input.

  • Is it possible to embed a media player and media in a ADE ePub

Playing around with ePub ebooks particularly embedding audio/video in ePubs.
I've seen a number of examples that show embedding/playing a swf file in an epub and it plays ok in ADE.
However, I'd like to be able to embed a media player e.g. StrobeMediaPlayback.swf or JW Player and a media file and have the player play back the embedded media file.
When I try this the player shows up but it will not play the file.
I've included references to the swf and media files in the ePub manifest.
Here is an example object tag.  This works fine if I load the html page in a browser like FireFox.
    <object width="470" height="320" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="player.swf">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf"></param>
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=video.flv"></param>
    </object>

No, it is not. Worse, many people will view this in any old PDF viewer, most of which won't have overprint preview at all.
You need to send very clear instructions about this, with specific screen shots - or better, avoid tools and constructions that require it. Probably some wording about "need to view with suitable professional tools" will make the message more palatable.

  • Windows Media Player always start in small window!!

I tried everything, I read everything but nothing, this stupid but also awesome program starts in small window!
Its only work the first time(open only the program, without any file, make it full, then close it and then only the first time opens in full screen, after that it will keep opening in small window again).

In addition, please take a check if the following article could help here:

  • Turn off media player (or media keys) on 6350 ?

I have a 6350 and have loaded media (music files).
It seems that the media player is always 'On'.  That is, any time I have the phone closed and press the 'play' key, a song starts playing.  This is a problem because it sometimes starts playing while the phone is in my pocket.
I read the manual.  It seems that the 'media keys' can be looked along with other keys on the phone if I lock the keypad.  This is inconvenient and overkill for my needs.
Is there a way to do either of the following:
    1) Lock  the media keys only?
    2) Turn off the media player so that I would need to turn it back on in order to play a song?
    Thanks.

The keys are meant to work like that. The media player is off (s40 doesnt have background app running capability). However the media keys were meant so that you can immediately start playing music with one click, just like on xpressmusic phones.

  • 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Output

So what I need is to learn if AA3 has the ability for me to play only those First Violins (Rear Left), Second Violins, Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet (Front Left), Brass Section & Cymbals (Front Right), Woodwind section (Center), Pipe Organ 16' bass, Timpani & Percussion etc (Sub-woofer), Double Bass (right rear), Violas, Keyboards, Organs, etc (Front Right).
Does anyone know how I can do this?
I need to experience what an Orchestra Conductor hears by digitizing through Multi-Track the ability to hear what he hears, but extended almost 360 degrees. My source material is mono-aural John Phillip Souza's marches recorded in the 1960s through Reader's Digest, who have given their permission for this type of work to be done.
I want to have the resulting tracks using MixDown back to 2 channel stereo in .WAV format but in 5.1 digital output in MP3 or MP4 format for all our cellphones that have MP3 players. If I can come up with my own arrangements of my own compositions, or my own arrangements of others' compositions that I have helped to "orchestrate", then this is the sound I need. Anyone with a digital home theatre system will appreciate the forethought gone into creating something of this magnitude.

    Hi Ian,
this system has the design feature of discarding standard usenet quotes and
anything thereafter, but not writing usenet style would be confusing to any
other user of the miserable, bodged, offline feature of this here
re-invented messaging system. Consequently I'll try to beat the design issue
with a different quoting prefix ... just in case I'll re-iterate the main
point made up here: you can not uncook a stew.
