No DVD-RW anymore

Hi there,
all of a sudden, i can't read/write any DVD-RW any more.
Even the DVD-RW's i burned three months ago on my MacBook Pro can't be read anymore on the same MacBook Pro.
The drive is just spinning around for about 20 seconds and then spits them out.
I don't have a problem with DVD-R, CD-Audio and Video-DVD's.
What happend?
Kind regards,
Herry

Hi Neuroanatomist,
hmmm, AFAIK, nothing disappeared or was changed in my System Profile....
System Profiler still shows all DVD Media as read-/writeable.
Or should the line "DVD lesen" (= read DVD) look different?

  • MCP 15 won't accept dvd/cd anymore

I have an Macbook Pro 15" and it won't accept any DVD or CDs anymore. The issue is both in osx lion and windows xp (bootcamp). It just pushes out the dvd/cd after a few seconds. They're not damaged. I'm trying to install a brand new game right now.
I don't know what have started this issue. I normally don't use this drive, so I have no idea when it first occoured.

    It worked!
My superdrive is as good as new. I can read and burn cd/dvd now.
    I used this: http://www.amdenmark.com/sort/engelsk/cleaning/15507/15507.html

  • Can't erase DVD-RW anymore

My MBP is refusing to erase DVD-RW discs anymore. I'm running 10.5.2 and it last worked (on this specific disc) under 10.5.1.
I've tried erasing a couple of discs, using both Disk Utility (quick and complete) and Disco. It appears to work properly, but it never finishes and comes up with the "You've inserted a blank disc" anymore. And when I go to the finder and click back on the disc, the original files are still there. I've also tried it before and after a full reboot with no joy.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried Toast? I use it regularly to transfer files to and from work. I rarely have problems erasing a DVD-RW. I have Toast 8. Go to the Recorder menu in the application, insert the disk you want to erase and then select Erase after the disk mounts. If you pick "Quick Erase" you must use Toast to burn the data for the next use.

    What did I do wrong?
THe only thing I did today was pacman -Syu
Long time ago I updated my system so it was 200mb of updates. And also kernel updates. Could that did something fuck up?

  • All of a sudden I cannot burn DVD's anymore but I can still burn CD's?

I was burning a movie in popcorn and an error came up saying that the drive failed to write to disk. I am using TDK-R DVD's. Previously I had burned 25 of these same DVD's a couple of days earlier. So I tried to burn a music CD and I was successful. My next move to see if it was maybe the popcorn program was to try and burn a DVD of one of my own movies in DVD Studio Pro - it failed.
    Please help!!!!!

If your Mac is still under warranty, palpentine, then head to Apple , who will simply replace your drive.
If not, then try a cleaning disc, . DVDs need a cleaner lens than CDs because of the tighter data specs/ denser data. The first sign of a dirty lens is usually a problem with burning DVDs, then reading DVDs, before losing the capability to burn, then use CDs too, etc etc. Once this starts to surface the quicker you clean the drive the greater your chances of success.
I know many people believe that the CD and DVD reading/ burning processes are independent of each other, but, in fact they both use the same lens (as is easily seen if you ever dismantle one of these drives) , and any problems with its cleanliness almost invariably show up through problems with DVD reading and burning first.
    Cheers

  • No Aiff for DVD exports anymore, just Dolby?

Old Compressor 2 had several options under exporting for 'DVD Best Quality 90 minutes' – Mpeg2, Aiff or AC3 Dolby, or all three.
Now there are only two options, Mpeg2 and Ac3.
Have they done away with the Aiff?
I burned the DVD and it sounds normal, so I don’t know that anything is missing, really...
    Thank you
    Thank you

Weren't there also options for 16x9 and 4x3 for the DVD video export?
Those remain but are consolidated. Each DVD setting (Best Quality or Fastest) determines the Aspect Ratio of your source file and sets the encode ratio automatically. (You can override it though.)

  • 1 Ghz Tibook with superdrive - can't burn dvd's anymore

    Hi,
I keep having problems burning DVD's with my Ti-Book. Am running 10.3.9. It starts the burn (like for iTunes), but then it quits with an error. The drive used to work, and its still burns audio cd's just fine.
The partially burned DVD does show it burned about 1/4 of the disk surface, but then it stops.
    Sound familiar?
    thanks

There is a big difference in iTunes and the Media you choose.
DVD-R Media is the most widely used and recognized by players and computers alike. Many older computers are not able to read or write DVD+R Media and likewise are not able to use the higher speed media of 16X as well.
Some of the newer high speed media is marked on the packaging that it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X,16X but you must read the packaging.
Itunes will burn CD or MP3, (DATA is different than Audio or VideoTS)
Some users find the Software funished in there machines harder to use than the Roxio Toast 8 or Popcorn that is basicly choose what you are burning and add the folder and click burn. Were-as iTunes and iMovie are a little harder to use, in that first you must click your Blue Apple and then choose System Preferences and then choose CD-DVD and select what you want to happen when you insert either a Commercial CD or blank CD and the same with a Commercial DVD and a blank DVD.
Burning CD's and mp3's as well as Data and Music and Video TS DVD's each one is different and requires different settings unless you use Toast, which is much easier. Using Toast you simply select Audio, Data, or Video, drag the contents to the box and click burn. This will read write and verify your project if you are using the correct media for your burner.
ERROR messages are caused by the wrong media many times.
Remember if you are using itunes to burn with you need to use CD's if you are trying to copy music to DVD's your best bet is to use the disk utility.

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!
    Regards
    Roessner

  • After BIOS update DVD driver do not read DVDs anymore - Sat A80

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A80-131 and after bios update (last version 2.5) by windows procedure update, my DVD drive do not read DVD medias anymore. It is possible to read CD medias, but not DVD one.
Can I reinstall the old bios? Can I reinstall the firmware?
    Thanks
    Ronai Lisboa

    Hi Ronai
Like Jimi has said in the posting above. It's very unusual that after BIOS updating the DVD drive hasn't read the DVDs.
Furthermore it's not advisable to use any 3rd party applications to DOWNGRADE the BIOS. Usually only the ASP can downgrade the BIOS. Such procedures are very serious and the wrong procedure can damage the motherboard.
However, it's nice that you have solved the problem and that the drive works properly.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • IMac won't recognize DVD/CD drive anymore

As the title suggests, my iMac won't recognize my dvd drive anymore.
I don't know what the reason is for it.
I've never had this problem before, it happened a couple weeks ago.
I first noticed this when I tried burning a CD in iTunes.
It said at the top of the screen "Disc burner or software not found..."
I then went to System Profiler and checked "Disc Burning" and it
read, "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly." I'm not using an external device. I'm using the DVD drive that originally came with my iMac.
If anyone could please help me out with this I'd be very grateful.

Lately, I left my iMac on while I was sleeping. Couple nights ago, the optical drive made a funny noise and woke me up. It sounds very similar to opening up Disk Utility on my MacBook Pro, it looked for the internal optical drive. First, I didn't do further investigation on my iMac.
Yesterday, I happened to do some 'housecleaning' and attempted to slide in a data CD. The drive didn't response, so the CD was stuck. In the past, I had opened up numerous iMacs and they were getting more complicated model by model. I am certified to perform the repair, but since this iMac is covered under AppleCare, I decided to make an appointment with the MacGenius.
I did perform a PRAM reset earlier.
Do you have 'put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible' checked under Energy Saver?
Out of all the Macs with slot-load optical drives built-in I have owned, this is the first malfunctioning I have ever had.

  • Macbook+Tivo=No DVD Showing up

I would like to use my Macbook to play DVD movies on my TV. On my current setup I have the Tivo connected to my TV with A/V plugs (Yellow/Red/White).
I went to the Apple store and bought the Mini DVI to Video adapter, an S-Video Cable, and a Monster Audio cable that plugs into the headphone output on the MB and they Y's off into two Audio A/V plugs.
I tried to hook it up and watch a DVD and nothing happened. I have the S Video cable plugged into the DVI-Video adapter (which is plugged into the computer of course) and the other end plugged into the S-Video Output on the back of the Tivo. I have the Monster Cable plugged into the Headphone jack on the MB and the other end to the Audio Outputs on the back of the Tivo.
Turned everything on and nothing worked.
One thing that I think I am missing is someway to tell the Tivo to switch to the "Auxillary" output. How do I do that with Tivo. Thanks for everyones help.

Well, I had been writing something else but I'm gonna forget it and just try this again.
You need to get audio and video to your TV. Currently, with the set up to the Tivo, you have an S-Video connection on the Tivo end, which means you would need to use that to connect to your TV. If your TV has no S-Video, then that can't be done with that adapter you have. The Audio you have in a headphone jack to the 2 colors of composite cable for the left and right audio. That is probably more useful, as most TVs have composite inputs, but that would only give it the audio, and you would still need the sound. The easiest way is to have an adapter from your MacBook that has 2 cables on an end, one for headphone jack and the other for the mini-DVI and it switches it to a 3 cable (Red White and Yellow) Composite end that then you connect to the 3 color composite connections on your tv where the Tivo gets plugged in (unplug your Tivo and plug that in when using, it will not affect the Tivo and its recording process or anything) or if you have a second set of composite in connections on your TV, plug it in there and change the channel to the corresponding one (my TV has AV1 (tivo channel), AV2 (the side inputs which we use for the XBox) and FRONT (I have no idea what it is for as we have no front inputs at all, heh).
I have no idea if there is an adapter like this or not. I know that my portable 7 Inch LCD screen DVD Player has a nice little port on it that I use to attach one end of a cable, and the other end has the 3 color composite cables on it so I can connect it to a TV for DVD viewing (and it automatically turns off the display on the player as it is not needed). But the MacBook has that odd mini-DVI plug and I think they expect everyone to have tech TVs that are plasma or lcd and have S-Video and component inputs, DVI and/HDMI etc. Mine doesn't. Coaxial and Composite cables are all it has. But if you could find an adapter that took the mini-DVI and had the other side the same as the portable DVD player plug port, then you could use that cable to attach to it and then to the TV (I could even send you mine if it worked as I never use the cable much less my DVD player anymore as I have 3 laptops now).
Demand a mini-DVI to tri-color composite adapter if one isn't available... I would buy one. Maybe... I can't use any of the other types though thats for sure.
    Sorry, I tried my best...

  • I have created a slideshow using i Photo. How do I burn it to disc so that I can play it on my DVD?

I have created a slideshow using i Photo.
How do I burn it to disc to play on a DVD.
    I cannot access i DVD.
    Is this the problem?
I have exported the slideshow as a movie quick time file.
    What do I do next???

If your Mac is a new one, like mine, then it comes with a version of iLife that doesn't have iDVD and if so, there isn't an easy way to burn a DVD from iPhoto or iMovie that will play on a normal DVD player.  There is quite a bit of correspondence about this, but I couldn't find a good answer, apart from this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18460085#18460085
I ended up buying (via Amazon) a boxed version of iLife11, which has all the same software I already have, but with a copy of iDVD with it.
Seems to work well with iMovie, but at the moment, my copy of iPhoto has crashed - see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18943719#18943719
Having only just transferred from a Windows machine to a Mac, it seems incredibly arrogant for Apple to think people don't use DVD players anymore.

  • Satellite L855D doesn't find my CD/DVD drive

    Hello!
I don't know what has happened to my computer but it doesn't find CD/DVD drive anymore.
I guess I may have deleted some necessary drive but not on purpose anyway.
Is there any way to recover it?
I have tried RmvFltrs which I found from some Toshiba's tech support site via Google search but it didn't help.
It stated that it worked but my computer tells me the installation couldn't be done.
I'm not in a desperate need of the drive to work, I'm just wondering whether it is possible to make it work somehow. So if someone could help me with this I'd be more than glad.
    Sincerely,
    Joonas

I mean that it isn't shown in "My Computer" anymore or if I try to install something from a CD it doesn't work since the drive doesn't work.
I can find it from device manager yes but it gives me this "code 52" and says the digital signature cannot be verified. There's this yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it too. Does this help at all?

  • Satellite M40-145: CD/DVD drive won't read some DVDs

    Hello!
I own a Satellite M40-145 purchased just over one year ago; the DVD driver worked perfectly until three days ago, but today I discovered something... peculiar. It still reads commercial DVDs and burned DVD+R, but apparently it doesn't read burned DVD-Rs anymore. I have tried with different DVD-Rs I burned through the same DVD player, with no success; trying to access the DVD yields a "insert disk in D: drive" message.
In this case, I'm talking about movies on DVDs. Please tell me there's a way to solve this without sending the computer to customer service...
I'd hate to think it broke down just days after the expiration date of the warranty.

    Hi
Well, you can try to remove the drive form the device manger.
After new reboot the drive should be recognized again. Check then if its possible to read the DVD-R CD.
But the issue sounds as a lens calibration error. If you use different media the lens must be calibrated again. But if this procedure fails, the drive is not able to read or write the DVD for example.
Unfortunately, in such cases only the drive replacement will solve this issue.
