No e-mail coming in despite hard re-boot?

I'm traveling and have frequently been going into zones where I cannot get any internet connectivity.
However, I just stopped into a Starbucks and logged into via my MacBook, see that I have over 50 e-mail waiting for me when my iPhone says there are none.
I did a hard re-boot and there are still no e-mail coming in...
Any thoughts as to why?

What type of account is is?
(yahoo, google, local ISP, etc.)
Yahoo has PUSH capabilities - the others you'll have to manually check. (OR set the iPhone to automatically check - but that kills battery life., IMHO.)
Additionally, in Mac Mail, you'll have to set up the iPhone email account to leave the messages on the server - and the same on the iPhone.)
It works - I promise.

Winmail.data are not usable files. They just preserve RTF within the message.

  • Question: how do you handle mail coming in via relays

I discovered a problem I'd like your opinions on.
Assume my external DNS entries look like
    mydomain.com MX 10 mail.mydomain.com
    mydomain.com MX 20 mail.myprovider.com
The first entry points to an Ironport, well protected. But the spammers know that, so they deliberately pick the second - the provider's sendmail. That accepts everything and tries to get it off to mail.mydomain.com. Of course, there will be a lot of unknown recipients, so the directory harvest protection kicks in and blocks. As a result, the queues fill up there with thousands of mails.
Now you could say: just drop all mail coming in that way. But of couse I cannot. There might be the odd legitimate mail in there.
    What now?
Option a) Accept all mail coming in from that host even if the recipient is invalid an drop it silently. Don't know how to do that. Apparently the listener cannot discriminate between connecting hosts.
Option b) get rid of that secondary MX. Won't help anyway, as it is always cluttered with junk.
Option c) host your own secondary MX. Ok if you have redundant connections as well. But not if you need a buffer for mails in case your connection is down.
Option d) pick a provider that offers Spam-protection. Well, what would I need the Ironport for then?
Share your thoughts. Give me a hint. Tell me the page in the manual I overlooked.
    Cheers
    Henrik

Create a sender group under the Host Access Table to cover the IP range of your providers's mail servers and then apply a mailflow policy with the DHAP set to an unlimited number of invalid recipients (in effect turns off DHAP for your providers's servers). The HAT is processed in the email pipeline before the LDAP acceptance. Once you have set that up - I would configure incoming relays to recognise your provider's mail servers so that the "real" host sender SBRS information can be used to determine spam messages more accurately.

  • Pop3 mail coming to my Gmail on Blackberry Question

If i have my pop 3 mail coming to gmail, but i still want to check my pop 3 separately from my blackberry, how do I fix this problem? I don't want my gmail on my blackberry to get emails from my pop3 accounts.

I solved this dilemma of getting things twice this way:
I forward the pop3 to my Gmail, because I like keeping things organized in one place and gmail works for me.  When I set up the forward, though, I SKIP THE INBOX on gmail, and send it directly to a folder (or apply a label, in gmail's terminology).  So it arrives on my phone from the pop3 account as soon as it comes in; gmail grabs every hour or so and there's a delay, but it eventually ends up in the gmail account, but I don't get a second notification from gmail because it's gone directly into the folder (been labeled) skipping the inbox.
I can show or hide the labels on my gmail, only show them when there's new mail, and it clears the inbox on gmail as well.  I can reply with my phone from the pop3 email, or from gmail and my incoming is pre-sorted to labels for me.  It works for me - post back if I haven't been clear in how I set this all up!

  • Can I read mail on an external hard drive without importing the account?

HI - I have a large mail account on an external hard drive which i do not want to import on my mac due to hard drive space limitations.  Can I review the mail within the Mail app, (or some other app) without importing everything into mail or onto my hard drive?  Thanks very much!!

    Hi Paint Guy,
    *Bootcamp on External Hard Drive?*
Can I install Bootcamp on an external Hard Drive? I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do I need to install the Mac OS on the external Hard Drive first, then Bootcamp?
By Microsofts Design no Windows can be installed and booted from external HDs. BootCamp just follows this.
However, according to this http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-dr ive/ it can be done.
    Parallels
Another question. Does Parallels allow you to not have to use the "option" key to boot into Windows? I mean if I use Parallels can I use XP or Vista at the same time as my mac applications?
What, (if any) are the drawbacks to using "Parallels"?
Parallels is an OS X application which don't need a restart of your Mac to run Windows.
Therefor you can run OS X and Parallels Windows side-by-side.
Main drawback is, that Windows runs not native (on the real hardware) but in a virtualized environment.
While this is more than acceptable for 'standard' Office programs, any program that needs direct hardware access (especially games and 3D-programs) either do not run at all or run at noticeable slower speed.
Also you have to realize that the amount of RAM in your Mac is divided between OS X and Parallels Windows.
    *What Options are there...*
Is it possible for Apple to allow users to program a key on their keyboard, when pressed will bring up Windows so they don't have to always restart? I need to switch between Windows and mac OS quite often and it's a real pain to always restart. What options do I have?
BootCamp is no option then, since it needs a reboot everytime you want to switch between OS X and Windows.
Parallels (and VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox, BTW) run alongside OSX.
    Thanks
    You're welcome. Hope it helps.
    Have Fun

  • My laptop is making a clicking noise and I think it's coming from the hard drive. Is this normal?

My laptop is making a clicking noise and I think it's coming from the hard drive.  I uploaded audio of the clicking to: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15528211/Memo.m4a.  Is this a normal sound or an indication of a problem?  Thanks in adance.
    Info:
HP Pavilion G6-1b70us - Purchased 2 days ago from Office Max

That is a hard drive clicking. It sounds kind of intermittent like it might be just the hard drive safety system parking the read head on the drive. Do you get a sustained click when you try to boot up? Have you tried the hard drive health test in the BIOS? Just tap F10 as you power up and go into the setup/bios and look for the hard drive self-test and run the long form version and see what you get.
Here is the Service Manual, which is always a good thing to have:

  • If you format in Guid for Intel Macs, Apple partition for PPC Macs for Boot drives, then why do my PPC Hard drives Boot in my 2007 Mac Pro, what gives?

I recently purchased a 2007 Mac Pro for a song, swapped the CPU's for octo chipsets and proceeded to wait for new Hdd's in the mail. I was told the Hard drives in my old G5 would not be bootable unless they're in Guid format. Disc Utility confirmed to use the specific maps as well and yet all of my 2006 PPC Power Mac G5 Hard drives boot in my MP without a hitch, although a few none universal apps do not work. So what am I missing, does it really matter which Apple partion map to choose from or is this a fluke?...

Yes, and what version of Mac OS  are they booting?

  • My caps lock was stuck and I shut down. Now it's coming back up in safe boot and asking for a password. It won't take my password, I believe because of the caps lock problem. So, how can I get in?

My caps lock was stuck when I shut down my computer. It is coming back up in safe boot (I had spilled liquid on it).
It's asking for my password - which has some lower case letters...So now how can I get in?
Is there a way to change this password or something?
I have a wireless keyboard, but it wasn't set up - so, It's not recognizing it.
    Any ideas?

Take your computer to get the keyboard replaced, your lucky it didn't trigger the moisture sensor and brick your machine, so your chances of the machine working well after the keyboard is replaced is likely very good.
As long as the main keyboard is sending a caps lock signal, it's not going to work even if you get in.
If you need to remove files off the internal drive, use a Firewire cable (800 to 400 adpater may be needed) and hold T to boot the problem Mac into Firewire Target Disk Mode and connect the cable to another Mac, the hard drive will appear on the desktop which you can then remove/erase files.

  • G3 Hard Drive boots up only partially

I've just reinstalled my 6G hard drive in my blueberry after using my 6 month old 60G hard drive from it to back up my new iMac G5. The reinstalled hard drive boot sequence is: blank gray, then white then gray with a small question mark for one second then then the little squared face icon (OS 9 or 10.2 as I recall) for a second, soon replaced by the Apple and a few seconds later joined by the little "circling circle" and finally the Apple is permanently replaced by a circle with diagonal slash with the other little circle still circling. This sequence doesn't change although I've tried the iMac Software Restore, Software Reinstall, and OS 10.2 Install, with and without holding the C down while rebooting, and have zapped the PRAM and done all again. I welcome all suggestions. I'm confident the hard drive is physically installed properly. Thanks!

Dale, thanks much, but none of the methods worked. The reinstalled hard drive has 10.3 on it, installed by a Mac dealer who didn't give me the discs; I only have 10.2 (and 7.5) discs, which I suspect won't work to reinstall since 10.3 is on the hard drive . Do I have any recourse other than trying to retrieve a 10.3 startup disc?

  • How to migrate mail system from one hard drive to another under 10.6.8 in a macpro

how do you migrate mail settings, calendar information, etc from one hard drive to another under 10.6.8 in the same computer?  Migration Application does not show this option.  It shows from an old computer to another, etc.

You have to install the OS onto the new HD and then use the setup assistant on first boot to migrate from the original HD.

  • Why didn't old e-mails transfer from old hard drive to new hard drive?

In 2007, I accessed e-mails thru Outlook Express.  The new equipment I purchased last month does not support Outlook Express. I was told it was obsolete.   I think this is why e-mail saved from 2007 to 2012 did not transfer to new equipment.  I know years later, I began using Firefox as a browser and accessed e-mails from that site.  Firefox did transfer to new equipment.  So all I have is 3 months of 2012 e-mails to present.  Has anyone else had this problem when buying a new computer, i.e. losing old e-mails that wouldn't or didn't transfer?

Outlook Express was most likely configured to save your emails on your local hard drive.  This means that unless you take some action to move them to "the cloud" or your new hard drive, they will remain on your old computer.
When you access your email through a web browser, such as Firefox or Internet explorer, the email stays "in the cloud."  You can access your email from any computer any where with any web browser, as the email remains on the server and is not transferred to your local computer.
Do you still have your old computer with Outlook Express?  What operating system (i.e. Windows XP, Windows 7, ...) is it running?  I and others may be able to help you move your old email.
    Good Luck.

  • How do I save a Yahoo Mail page to my hard drive?

I want to save a page of the Yahoo Mail to my hard drive. How do I do that?
I have tried saving using "Save page" but that doesn't work. It saves an .html file and a folder file to only certain places. For example my home folder but not to my Downloads or Documents folder.
However when I open it by clicking on the .html file, it comes up but only once or twice in the browser. After a while it says "session has expired" and I have to log in to Yahoo Mail.
If I delete the folder that is saved, the page opens in the browser but it only contains some information like the Yahoo border, not the message itself.
I have tried the Print option and it tried to save it as a pdf file but that does not work for me.

What does not work for you when you save it as a pdf? Works OK here.
