No Edit Command in Photo Browser or Date View

I am seeking to edit the contact book. There is suppose to be and "Edit" choice in the Photo Browser / Date View. However, this choice does not exist for me. I'm thinking that this is suppose to be a drop down menu choice. And am wondering if the program didn't fully install. At the top all I have is the pse icon, the welcome screen icon, then it jumps to "Sign in" "Join Now", "Undo," "Display", and "Editor."

The Organizers menu bar (File, Edit, etc.) wont show if your display is set in Windows to a DPI (dots per inch) larger than 96.
You will have to change the DPI to 96.

  • Enhance Req: Business Components Browser close data viewer

    Hi JDev team
Regards the Business Components Browser in JDev 11g TP with an open data viewer. To close the data viewer you need to right click on the tab then select Close.
Can you raise an enhancement request please for a 1 click close facility, such as floating the mouse over the tab, an X button appearing in the right side of the tab, which with 1 click closes the tab.
    Thanks,
    CM.

  • Organizing photos in a traditional view

I am an ex-PC user and I have pretty much filed all of my images chronologically, similar to:
    Pictures/2007-Present/2007/October/DCA/DSCF2683.JPG
    or
    Pictures/2008/March/DSCF2777.JPG
I have thousands of images to go through and importing them in to iPhoto would be ideal I'm sure. However, I'm very apprehensive about this because iPhoto doesn't readily (seemingly) allow me to edit / organize my photos in this "folder view" format. Even putting the view aside, it doesn't let me put images where I would like them to be, in subfolders, like in a "windows explorer." I'm very unfamiliar with the software. I dislike the idea of "Albums" because I can't seem to create "subalbums" if that makes any sense? Can someone help me accomplish this?

iPhoto has infinite flexible for organization
Events are the basic (for free) organization and where the Photos actually exist
then you can add keywords so you can quickly find any photo so build Smart albums automatically
And you can manually move photos into albums (no space penalty since albums are virtual - they point to the photos in the events)
And then you can have folders which contain multiple albums
Plus you can have photos ratings
As to putting them where you want - no data base does that - if you want to be the organizer then the finder (it is like windows explorer but more powerful and easier to use) is just fine and lets you control everything - and with spotlight you have better search than Windows but NOTHING like iPhoto
Give iPhoto a try with a small data base and remember that you are no longer the database operator - you are the user and iPhoto is there to assist you in finding photos -it organizes for you - you use it to find the photos (a different approach than you are used to in Windows)
If you really want to the the database manager then iPhoto is not the right program for you because you will constantly be fighting it and just get frustrated - use it as a photo database and you will learn to love it.

  • DPS 6.3 root data view excluded subtrees in DSCC?

In dps6.3 using the dscc I see a default data view of "root data view". I created another data view for the base dn of our ldap. However when I look at the root data view I see in "excluded subtrees" the base dn of our ldap. I did not edit "excluded subtrees" in the root data view. How did my base dn get in there? Can it see the suffix of the local directory server? The suffix of the local directory server is the same as the base dn. Everything is working as expected, I was just surprised to see it there.

One way to think of the Root Data View is as a default bucket. All other data views failing to serve a request, fall back to Root Data View. When you have a "more qualified" data view for a particular base dn, then you want to make sure that other views won't serve the query.
For example, if you have a data view "global" serving dc=example,dc=com with various containers (like ou=Resources and ou=Groups) and a second data view "people" dedicated to serve ou=People,dc=example,dc=com, you need to make sure to exclude ou=People,dc=example,dc=com from the "global" data view. Feel me?
There are 3 properties of interest to mix and match in your data views:
    1.base-dn
    2.excluded-subtrees
    3.alternate-search-base-dn
In general, dsconf will take care of this for you automatically which is what happened in your case.
You may want to tweak this to achieve particular routing to specific data views.

  • IPhone photo location and date data after editing

I'm using the DayOne app and have noticed that when I add photos that have been edited (using the Photos standard editing features) that the location and date information is lost. Is this normal or is this a bug? It seems to happen across all apps.

When you invoke the Editor from the Organizer, Organizer first does the equivalent of File > Write Keyword Tag to get all of the metadata from the Organizer (specifically, keyword tags) written into the file so it is available in the Editor.  This changes the metadata of the image file but not the actual image itself -- that's why you see the Date Modfied and Date Created changed (though in normal circumstances, the date taken doesn't change).
Note that other Organizer commands will change an image's metadata and thus change Date Modified/Created: Edit > Adjust Date And Time, changing star rating, changing the caption, changing the notes.

  • Photos in Mail / iPhoto Photo Browser are out of date.

In Mail, a photo browser button allows me to browse the contents of my iPhoto library (Events, places, etc).
However, the contents are not the same as what I see in iPhoto.  They appear to be out of date - no event or photo after Jan 2011 is present.
iPhoto itself is working just fine, and has plenty of more recent photos and events etc.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Mail version 4.6, iPhoto 9.2.3

    Where is your Library stored?
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a File called 'AlbumData.xml'.
Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?

Firstly, always assuming your profile is up to date,  I would update the device to 10.6.8 using the Combo updater as follows.
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1  and follow with a software update to pick up the most recent security updates.
    Then try again.
If there is no improvement I suggest you rephrase the question and put it in the iPhoto columns where it will receive the attention of the gurus there.  It is always good practice to channel questions to the communities that are directly related to your problem.

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done

Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)

On First Save : Save Over Current File
    Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As)

  • Lightroom 2 Catalog in Mail photo browser

Can I view pictures in my LR2 catalog from the photo browser in Mail?

I use Lightroom and I don't think you can see its library from the Photo Browser. I think the Mail Photo Browser is only locked to Apple products: the iPhoto library, and maybe Aperture's.
BUT, don't let that stop you. You can drag images out of Lightroom and drop them into a Mail message just as easily as using the Photo Browser, so just do that. Drag a picture out of the Lightroom grid mode and drop it into a Mail message. I think I might actually prefer this to the Photo Browser, because it isn't necessary to dig down through the Photo Browser to find it all over again when you can already see it in front of you in Lightroom. Just drag over what you can already see.
Just make sure you're dragging a mail-friendly file format. I say that because most people edit Raw files in Lightroom and chances are you want to put a JPEG in your mail message, not a raw file most people can't read. If you don't have JPEGs yet then use the Export command in Lightroom and use the option to automatically import those exports back into the Lightroom catalog. Then drag 'em over to Mail.

  • Photo browser in Mail not working

In new mail my photo browser will not add photos even though it appears on screen when requested. Some time ago I had to replace my original photo library with a new one and I think this has caused the problem as it used to work fine. I do not know what to do to get it working again and would really appreciate any help to do so. Should I consider re-installing Leopard?

    Hi Buzz,
Hi John; Sorry that I didn't reply sooner. Been busy playing with a new toy! I got carried away here so this kind-a long!
Keep the chat coming - it made me laugh!
Well, O.K. Hmm, this will amuse you and may amaze you too! The ONLY reason I EVER had for buying a Computer was due to my mind's insatiable boredom created by my job! It's a long story but I LIVED out of my suitcase, in Hotel's/Motel's, a different Town/City every day, 6 days a week! And *I HATED IT!* I was so bored *OUT OF MY MIND*, I became an alcoholic! I didn't just get drunk every night, I STAYED drunk all day long every day! I was so good at being drunk I could FAKE being SOBER! EVERYBODY I talked to was convince that I had a speech impediment. I wanted to quit but the salary for this job was so INSANE I couldn't. The Job: K-Mart Field Auditor. The year: 1979-82! The Computer: A 1980 Tandy/Radio Shack TRS-80!
The amazing part of this story: I STILL have the Computer, it STILL works and I STILL use it! It's the ONLY Computer that I've EVER own that's SO stable it HAS never CRASHED. Unfortunately I STILL have a addiction but isn't alcohol, it's Computers! I'm SO addicted my Boss wants to commit me to a psychiatric hospital but he won't! He can't replace me! I'm the ONLY Certified Windows Professional in this city with more of years experience than all of the other CWP have been alive! I was doing 'Stuff' with my TRS-80 25 years ago that most Computers *CAN'T EVEN* do today but that's another story! Do you know somebody else that STILL uses a 27 Year Old Computer?
If you have more than one email account when you click new mail there is a "From" box right under the address boxes which allows you to click on the account you want to use to send- in my case either @tiscali or @google.
Yup I'm in the Groove now and I'm following you but that ONLY changes the From:, not the E-Mail Account that will Send it! There's a different option to do this that I will explain ...
If I open new mail and click the google address all is well. Not so if I click tiscali.
Yup! It's the 'stuff' that makes you go NUTS when the logic ain't logical! But after doing some research about multiple Mail Accounts I found the logical logic that will help! Hmm, did that make any sense to you? I'm get so confused when I do immutable weird mutating stuff that turns my logical mind into mindless gibberish logic but it makes me happy!
Alternatively it could be that this difference only appeared after I carried out the start up operation you gave me last time. I do not know.
O.K. Me BAD! I told you to do that but I didn't tell you WHY. As you're using your Mac it creates different Caches to cut down on having to re-search the Hard Drive again. This makes 'Stuff' open quicker and when you open 'Stuff', the Mac will ALWAYS look at the caches first before looking at the Hard Drive. If the Mac finds this 'Stuff' in the cache it WILL NOT look for it any further and uses the Cached Information. If you change something on the Hard Drive that the Mac HAS NOT cached, like renaming iPhoto files without using iPhoto, it won't know about it and then weird stuff starts happening. 'Safe Boot' clears the caches and MAKES the Mac re-cache 'Stuff'.
I have tried to attach all sorts of photos to the tiscali new mail and none works - thought maybe there was some kind of size limit perhaps but lots of the older photos are really quite small.
Well, I think I know an answer for this should work! You know: what's good for the goose should be good for geese! O.K. down to business and I took my time to aim this 'Shot'! Hmm, where to start and do I explain this simply?
First open Mail then Preferences and goto the Account window. You know how to setup the Accounts because they work, sort of! At the bottom of the Account Information window, there's an option to use a 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)'. It's a drop down box that will let you change or edit this information. Change this to 'None' and underneath this option is a check box to 'Use only this server'. Un-check it if it's checked. Now you don't have a 'Default Mail Server' and can choose the server to use from a new e-mail. Now while you are still in this window, click the Advance button under the tool bar. At the bottom of this window there's a click box for the option 'Use IDLE command if the server supports it'. Un-check it if it's checked. This option only works with IMAP Servers and not with the POP Servers that you use. O.K. You still with me?
Now click the 'Composing' icon on the tool bar at the top. Then uncheck 'Automatically <Cc or Bcc> myself' if it's checked and you don't use it. IMO:This option SO asinine! But stupid programers do stupid 'Stuff'. Now, the next option to change is 'Send new mail from'. This maybe the 'Pain in your Derrière' that you're having but it should change when you select the 'From:' while creating new e-mail. You probably only have three choices here and I suggest anything BUT the 'Account of the last viewed mailbox'. O.K. Still with me?
Now I KNOW why my this Mail Stuff was a 'Pain in your Derrière'. Did I mention that stupid programers do stupid 'Stuff'. This is a quote I found in Mail's Help! *"To change the server you want to use to send the message, use the server pop-up menu in the New Message window."* Well, O.K. But I was going blind looking for this infamous 'Server Pop-up Menu' in the the 'New Message Window'. Mail's Help said It's there but I don't SEE IT! Plus, I don't believe everything I read or half of the 'Stuff' I see! Swell, Just Swell! I feel like I'm watching PAINT dry! And I'm not in my 'Groove' yet plus I know the answer will 'DAWN ON ME' later while I'm doing other 'Stuff'! So I do, then it does and 'DAWN', my third eye, shows me the way! O.K. Are you still with me or are you busy, laughing at this rambling Weirdo? Can you tell that I read & write like a moron that's a Computer Genius?
Now were was I? O Yea... Open a new e-mail window and look for a square box on the left side of 'FROM:'. See it? Now click on it and a drop box will appear. The infamous 'Server Pop-up Menu' option you want isn't even list here and I kept missing it! I did mention that stupid programers do stupid 'Stuff', didn't I? So click on 'Customize ...' and the ALL the Mail options are now shown with check boxes. Isn't that just dandy? Are you cursing at that stupid programer like a truck driver? I DID! I cursing now! I curse out that stupid programer every time a create a new e-mail! Man O Man! No wonder there's so many names to impugn a Stupid person ... Asinine, Dumb, Dense, Dull, Slow, Obtuse but their just unintelligent. But a person with Stupid Stupidity is TOTALLY Brain Dead! Well, I did it again and went off the subject, carried away with mindless gibberish. O.K. You still with me?
On the right side of the 'FROM:' box is that infamous 'Server Pop-up Menu' option that you want to use. Click the check box next to, on the left so doesn't disappear! Now you can choose whichever E-Mail Server you want to send e-mail from. But before you click the OK button I have a suggestion. Uncheck the 'Cc:' box under 'TO:' then check the 'Bcc:' box. I explain ... The 'Cc:' means Carbon Copy and the e-mail address use here will receive a Copy the the e-mail. But everybody that gets this e-mail WILL know the e-mail address of everybody else that got this e-mail! Does that make any since? Plus Spammers can collect these e-mail address way to easy! It's a long story to explain how quickly this can be done. Now the 'Bcc:' means 'Blind Carbon Copy' and it works just like 'Cc:', but there's ONE very important difference! Everybody that gets this e-mail is BLIND to the e-mail address of everybody else that got this e-mail! Plus Spammers are BLIND about these e-mail address as well, TOTALY impossible to collect! PERIOD! And you probably know this by now, but you can use the the 'Reply-To Address Field' to have replies sent to an email address that is different from the email address you’re using to send the message. One last tip then I've got to go to bed! You can sent email without an email address in the 'TO:' box if you use 'Bcc:' with an email address! But this may not work because some Spammers don't use an email address in the 'TO:' box any more, so several 'E-Mail Servers' will block an email with blank 'TO:'
WOW! Did I get carried away! This post is HUGE!
I hope I covered everything and that Apple let's me post it!
    Later ...

  • Mail: Where is Photo Browser Icon in Toolbar?  or Stationery Icon?

Ive been trying to figure out how to work with the Mac mail program.  I cant tell you all the problems Ive been having.  Was on the phone with Apple care for 90 minutes yesterday and ended the call with nothing resolved.  Ugh
Anyway, this should be simple.  In the help menu and the tutorials, they mention a Photo Browser Icon that you can put in the toolbar on the top of the page.  The problem is I cant find it.
Ive done VIEW/CUSTOMIZE TOOLBAR and when the customized toolbar options come up, I DONT SEE ANYTHING FOR A PHOTO BROWSER
Is it possible that the tutorials and help menus are out of date and there is no longer a  photo browser icon?  If you have it, can you tell me exactly where on the customize tool bar menu  you find it - cuz I am not seeing one.    Im using Mail 5.0 with Lion.
I also notice you can access the Photo Browser by WINDOW/PHOTO BROWSER but Im looking for the toolbar icon.  I just cant find it anywhere.
Just reading the help menu, it also said there should be a Stationery icon in the toolbar, and again I dont see that option either.  Does that even exist in t his version because I dont see it at all?

    Thank you.
The help and tutorial were showing it in the overall toolbar...I see now its in a toolbar that is featured in the  new message panel.  I dont know if that is a Lion difference maybe?
Are the different formatting options/colors/fonts/stationery etc things that would be visible if you send emails to people who are not using Macs or Apple products? For example if someone is accessing  Yahoo on a PC, will they see what you're sending?
I also saw a priority button - Just curious how that works - Is that priority for the sender, recipient?
(And its a different topic but in case you know, In Text Edit, is there a preview window before printing so I can see the layout and know where to put page breaks?  Thanks again.

  • Photo attach using attach or Photo Browser in Mail not seeing events Folder

Recent upgrade on MacBook to Leopard and I now mail does not see photos synced from iPhone into iPhoto. Is there a way to refresh the folders displayed in mail when using the attach button?
Also, when I use the Photo Browser Button in Mail, I can see the photos sync'd from the iphone but can't get any attached to an e-mail?
    Suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Apple Mail, Photo Browser, Attachments and Yosemite

    OK,
    Help.
Anytime I want to insert a photo from my iPhoto Library into Apple Mail via Photo Browser in  Yosemite Mail, it crashes.
My preferred method - Via add attachments - Finder/Pictures/Iphoto library doesn't work anymore. It now says Open iPhoto library.
Why does Apple change these things without like checking them out?
Anyone have an advice. I think Yosemite is pretty half baked. I'm a computer consultant and this is the worst release for customers since Leopard.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
Note:  Since it's Mail that's crashing it's not an iPhoto problem but a Mail/System one.
Log into another user account on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists there.  If it does then it's a system wide issue. If not it's an account issue.
Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify some of the more obvious culprits.

*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Is it possible to sort photos by the date imported?

The majority of my photos were taken without the date being set in the camera.
In previous versions of iphoto it appeared as though each time I imported images (now called an event) the events were put in the order that they were imported.
I would like to go back to that method of ordering, on a temporary basis this will allow me to try estimate the date that each event took place because at least the events would be in chronological order.
Right now my events are completely unordered because of wrong dates.

I'm assuming that in addition to not having the date set in your camera you had not renamed the rolls in iPhoto 6 so every event is now titled "Untitled event"
The only way to fix your dates that comes to mind is to go back to iPhoto 6, go through all your rolls and name them 'Roll "date"' or even 'roll n' then reimport into iPhoto 7.0.2 . that way the events will be in the same order that the rolls were in iPhoto 6 and you can use the iPhoto "photos menu ==> adjust date and time" or "photos menu ==> batch change ==> set date" to modify the dates so the events work
Before doing anything I'd download Old Toad's library back up and do that (see pretty much any of his posts for instructions)
