No effect library in iMovie 10.0.6, not even in helpfile?

I have just started use iMovie 10.0.6 after upgrade to Yosemite. I couldn't find the effect library with transitions etc. I tried to find som hints in helpfile, but it's blank in this section... Even som keyboard shortcuts for editing is not working.
When I tried to start iMovie after upgrade, it took very long time (>10 min), so I cancelled that and started over again...
I 'am not an experienced user of iMovie so maybe it's a simple solution that I 'm not aware of...
Any ideas...?

It looks like the editing options are supposed to be under the 'window' drop-down, then -> 'Content Library' -> 'Transitions', etc., but all of the options inside the 'Content Library' are now faded and unavailable for use.
The 'help' area of iMovie said to click on 'transitions' ... great. A google search for help on this failed to provide any useful information.
Surely someone has found the solution to this problem - suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Deleting part of a clip in event library in imovie '11

Hi,
i'd like to delete parts of clips in the event library in imovie `11. So not in a movie/project, but in an event!
if i do it the way it worked with imovie 09 (rejecting and than "move to trash") imovie ´11 moves the whole clip to trash. even if only a part of it was marked as "rejected".
1. How should i keep my library small in terms of disk space, without deleting the parts of my clips i definitely will never ever use in a movie?
(i have lots of very big clips (e.g. from GoPro cameras) with each about 4 GB)
2. Why does the way i described above work with imovie 09, but seems not implemented in imovie ´11?

A couple of features might be of interest.
1) Select your clip. Then, in the top menu bar, select CLIP/Special Effect.../Flash and Hold Last Frame.
This will create a flashbulb effect, and then hold the last frame in the clip still. The flash effect is actually a Fade Through White transition, so you can edit it out if you don't like it.
As a hint, if the frame you want to freeze is not at the end of the clip, drag to create a selection so that there is a yellow border around a range of clips, the last frame of which you want to freeze. Then Edit/Split Clip. The frame you want to freeze is now at the end of the clip.
2) You might also want to try CLIP/INSTANT REPLAY/25%. You can highlight an action by replaying it in slow motion.

Help! iMovie 10.0.2 does not show my entire sound effects library

I've been building an extensive iLife sound effects library to use for my videos and when I open the library in a wondow it shows all of my audio files. When I try to import sound files in iMovie 10.0.2 however, it only shows the standard audio files from apple, it does not show my own imported files. How do I get to my files in the new iMovie? I'm getting very frustrated, I need to get this project done quickly and I keep running into problems like this with this new updated version This is taking up too much of my time! Please help!

No, I did not.
Meanwhile I have found the reason for the projects disappear in my libraries! The problem is caused by using the dash "#" symbol in my project names.
I have created another project with a dash in the name and the project also disappeared in iMovie with the same effect that the underlying data was still in die library.
Apple should release a warning that some special characters are not allowed to be used in project names or better should solve this.

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie? I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container. You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

I was working on a project, when all of a sudden the event library went blank. There are no devices showing in the left column, only "last import" and "aperture videos". There are no video clips in the editing window. I have "Show: All Clips" selected. I've tried "group events by disk".
When I have a Project open, it plays just fine. There are no yellow triangles saying "source clip is missing". Yet, again...nothing is in the event library large editing window. So, it seems the data is still there, but invisible. This is true with all the projects, and all the external devices I've experimented by plugging in to see if their video clips show up in the event library.
I have tried to import new movies, and iMovie responds as normal...looking like it's importing, then "generating thumbnails", then it makes the "ding" signalling that the import is complete...but nothing shows in the event library. I've tried importing movies from the harddrive, from quicktime, and from an external drive.
I have searched the forums, and found many users with a similar, but not the same, problem. For them, it seems the "go to users-library-preferences and delete iMovie plist" has solved their problem. This didn't work for me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled iMovie, I even have re-installed Mountain Lion (from a last-ditch effort suggestion from Apple technician).
HERE'S AN INTERESTING DETAIL: After almost 5 hours on the phone with Apple, I decided to cut my losses and take my project to another Mac I have. I'm working on a project, for work, that is critical that it's completed by tonight (whoops), and all my video is on an external drive. So, I plug in the external drive to Mac #2, open iMovie, and everything is looking fine. I continue importing some files I was converting, through Wondershare, and suddenly (whether or not this has to do with the importing, I'm not sure), the SAME THING happened to Mac #2!!!! I can't believe this.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Have you ever heard of this happening? Could it have to do with the files I'm importing???

Mac #1 is a 27" desktop, mid-2012, software up-to-date. Mac #2 is a 24" desktop, about 4 years old, OSX 10.7.5

in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible. When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip. ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

How do I clean-up iPhoto library in iMovie '08 and make my new ones appear?

I'm a graphic designer and I use Adobe Bridge to add metadata (keywords) to my pictures so they're searchable on the Internet - not just iPhoto (and iLife?) and after transferring all the image files from iPhoto onto my Time Capsule (external hard-drive) and deleting the Photo Albums from iPhoto, I created a new Album to import still frames/images to use in my new iMovie project. I cleaned out (emptied) my iPhoto trash to help free-up space on my hard-drive, too.
The problem I'm having is that my iPhoto library as viewed from iMovie - still shows all the old photo albums that I've already deleted and the new .PNG I imported doesn't appear; however, the old .JPG files I once had still appear with exclamation marks as the thumbnail images and I can't select or delete them. When I right-click on the iPhoto photo albums library within iMovie, I only get the option to open in iPhoto. I imagine there is some back door manipulation required to fix this. The iMovie and iPhoto software came pre-installed in my computer and I'm not so sure that re-formatting my computer with the start-up disc is the safe or correct answer.
I've been researching the iMovie forum to see if there is a file I should be able to access to fix a Cache file somewhere; however, I couldn't find any .xml files, cache files, or anything anywhere yet. Thanks in advance to anyone willing and able to share some knowledge. I look forward to resolving this troubling experience. My final goal is to use the .PNG file (which contains transparent data, unlike .JPG files which fill transparent data with white pixels) as a frame image if not as a floating graphic (i.e. picture-in-picture).

Sean in the iMovie technical support area (thanks to my lovely Apple Care plan purchase) answered my question about how to delete the iPhoto library, which I no longer use (because I use Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS3 to browse my photos and update their Metadata to make the images searchable not only on my computer, but others who don't have iPhoto, or iLife as well; even PC users and Internet search engines - when the images are uploaded as-is - without compression and changes that occur when uploaded to image hosts such as Photobucket.com, etc.):
Go to: *Finder >* (click on) *Pictures >* (and on the right, see iPhoto Library, Aperture, etc.? Select those files and...) *Move to Trash*
Now when you look at the Photos Browser in iMovie (⌘2) the folder, files, blank thumbnails and junk are (thankfully) gone!
As for using images located elsewhere for use in iMovie - I just have to locate them via the Finder, then select the file, then drag-and-drop the image for immediate placement into the part of My Project where I want to use the image and repeat this method for each incidence I want the graphic to appear.
Unfortunately, I must upgrade to iMovie '09 if I want to be able to take advantage of the Picture-in-Picture feature, which would enable me to place a logo or image graphic in a video project while other parts of the production are playing, but I can still use the title feature to embed text information such as a business name and phone number or (website) URL pertaining to the project as a surrogate stamp, watermark, or creative signature, but no other graphic image files may be used here.

Why is the sound effects library missing from the audio menu is FCPX 10.1

Up until version 10.1 Final Cut Pro had a sound effect library under the music tab.
Its now completely missing and only shows itunes.
Has anyone else noticed this problem and know how to put it back to the way it used to be.

follow BenB's solution as follows:
Minor upgrade glitch, don't move any folders.
Quit FCP X.
If you have GarageBand, launch it.
Quit GarageBand.
Reboot your Mac.
Open FCP X, you should be fine.
Repeat once or twice if needed.

If you're asking if you can import video fror the iOS Videos app to iOS iMovie, the answer is no. You can only import what is in the camera roll.

Is there any chance you launched iPhoto while the external hard drive was not available? If so you may have created a virtual EHD - if so unmount your EHD and in the finder go menu ==> go to folder == /Volumes and if you see your EHD there drag it to the desktop - then remount it and launch iPhoto and see if you see both libraries

Elements 10 is freezing after unsuccessfully trying to rebuild content and effects library, help?

Hi guys,
I recently got some actions and proceded to install them as I've done with actions in the past...put them in the photo effects folder, then go to the Locale folder and delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file. (I'm on a mac, in the case that it's different for PC).
It's worked in the past for me, but for some reason, the last time I tried that, the content and effects library wouldn't rebuild. It got 75% done and then froze.
Luckily I had kept an old MediaDatabase.db3 file in case that ever happened. So I just deleted the unfinished MediaDatabase.db3 file and put the old one back in the folder and opened Elements 10. Elements 10 opened, but then wouldn't let me use any menus whatsoever. I got the spinning beachball of death.
I don't know what happened...like I said, nothing I did was out of the ordinary and this has worked for me before!
Any suggestions? Short of completely reinstalling Elements (which I don't even know if I can do, since I only got one activation code when I bought it.)

Yes, you could reinstall PSE, but that shouldn't be necessary. Acivation is hardware related so it doesn't matter, and the uninstaller gives you the option to deactivate when uninstalling. Try deleting mediadatabase again, and this time also delete thumbsDatabase.db3, which is in hard drive>library>Application Support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>10.0.
That's assuming this isn't the app store version. Is it?

Sound Effect Library

Kind of off topic, but if anyone could reccomend an extensive sound effects library it'd really be appreciated. Right now I'm looking for automobile sounds, but realize I'd like to have a full effects library handy. Who's got the best stuff?

I use various libraries from Sound Ideas (http://www.sound-ideas.com/). Their Series 5000-Wheels collection contains 24 CD's of various cars & trucks. There stuff is very well recorded and easy to search. Other collections, like the Series 6000 are quite varied, definitely worth a look.

How do you move movies from iPhoto library into iMovie

Previously, short movie clips that were downloaded from my digital camera into iPhoto automatically appeared in iMovie. Now, however, these movie clips still remain in my iPhoto library but do not show up in the Event Library under the iPhoto Videos folder. How do I get them back into iMovie? These are movies going back to 2004. Before they "disappeared" I had edited 250 clips and shared them in iTunes. They remain in my Project Library in iMovie but I'd like to finish editing them and sharing them in iTunes. I am working with iMovie '09, 8.0.6 (821) and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
