No Eject Icon for Network

I was sitting through a "Switch at 6" presentation at an apple store when the presenter pointed out the 'eject' feature for the network. He said this disconnects the computer from the network. I asked, "so, If I suspect something is going on with my computer like it's being hacked, I can simply eject the network and that will disconnect me from the network?" Yes, that's the idea.
When I got home I thought I'd check it out, but my network object doesn't have an eject icon next to it. I'm using my wireless network to connect to my router and internet.
I've looked at other posts about the eject, but they are mostly about how it doesn't work or how it disconnects you from computers that you are connected to. I'm just connected to the internet. I come from a windows background so I'm very cautious and paranoid about being hacked.
Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Maybe I should be more clear about my question...
How do I get the eject icon to appear for my network object and does it really disconnect me from the internet / network by clicking 'eject'?

OK, so I want to know how to disable the right click menus for Network Magic's system tray icons only for Vista's standard and Guest accounts?   I don't want other users signed in as a Standard account or guest account having the ability to disable the system tray icons for network magic.

Hi, currently it's not possible to disable NM from being accessed by a Limited user account, but that is a good idea.
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • Desktop icon for a file on network shows blank in Windows 8.1, if selected the second icon from the library

    Hello,
I have a strange issue on my Windows 8.1 machine. The icon for for an executable file on the network shows blank, if I select the second icon from the library. (File->Properties->Change Icon and select the second icon - This file has two icons)
If I re-create the IconCache.db, then it is showing correctly. But I do not want to do this every time.
    Regards
    Mattehw

It indicates your Icon Cache is corrupted and you need to rebuild it.
Open the command prompt window, type each of the following and after every command, hit the Enter button:
    cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
    attrib –h IconCache.db
    del IconCache.db
    start explorer

  • HT1338 My Mac keeps Looking for Networks? The ICON in menu when clicked shows the WI- FI (in gray) ON then goes to Looking for Network again. Shutting down the connection.

My MAC keeps looking for networks? The ICON in menu bar when clicked shows the WI-FI (in grey) it keeps shuting off and disconnecting. Any Ideas???

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Reinstall OS X.

I cannot find the AirPlay icon for the life of me. I have iOS 7.0.2 on my iPad Mini. Connected to my WiFi network just fine. I swipe up to get to the control center badges and all I see is the AirDrop icon. Trying to disable mirroring on ipad for Netflix streaming and don't know what to do. Any luck out there?

If you last used an Apple TV to mirror your device and have updated to the newest Apple TV software, go into settings and turn airplay back on. The icon should then appear on your iPad mini when you swipe up allowing you to disable it for Netflix. After updating my Apple TV software for some reason it turned airplay off.

  • Airport is connected but Airport menu icon looks like it is looking for networks

Status in menu bar appears to be disconnected and looking for networks (cycling through the bars), when it is in fact connected. Is that expected? I can't see how good my connection is as a result.

It is indeed the default - the spinning ball and the message: wi-fi: looking for networks. Your device is NOT constantly looking but only looks again when you click the airport icon in the menu. One may want to change networks or one may have come into the range of a new network that was not previously in the list, you see.
(This is the case in osx 10.8 whether the box is checked or unchecked pertaining to "asking before joining new networks" in the system preferences.)
Think of the light which only comes on when the refrigertor door is opened.

ive been having this problem since i upgraded to mountain lion.. the signal icons for available networks on wifi tab are missing..i do not have any problem with my connection but it would be better to see signal status before i connect to any available network....this is what it looks like...

i did that many times but its still not working . its only for the icon on the menu bar which i have...i'm missing those signal icons beside the lock icons when im trying to search for available networks. ..if you could notice the above photo, i encircled it..the lock icon is usually accompanied by a status signal icon but its now gone....

  • Eject icon shows up for partition I never want to umount

I've added x-gvfs-show to the fstab entry of my permanently mounted data partition so it shows up in the file manager and in save/open dialogs. It shows up just fine, except gnome thinks its a removeable drive so I see the eject icon next to it in nautilus and "Removeable devices" is shown in the gnome's system tray.
I googled and failed to find an anwser to how to convince gnome that I never want to eject/umount this drive. Found some posts in an ubuntu forum, that said it will only show the eject icon if it is mounted under /media, well it is mounted under /mnt and the icon is there.
ps: I know I could simply add a gtk-bookmark to the mount point but that won't show up in every dialog.

You can remove the Airplay password from the Settings menu on your AppleTV.

    any help really appreciated

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.

everytime i start my mac it asks for "Select a certificate or enter a name and password for network" and when i'll close it and reopen it, it still asks.
can somebody help with what am i suppose to do?

If you are currently showing WiFi status in the menu bar, you would see this icon:
If you see that near the top right corner, click it and choose "Join other network" from the drop down list.
If you do not see that icon, then go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar), ciick "Network", then choose "WiFi" and choose something (probably "Assist me" at the bottom) there.

  • How do I find the icon for scanning to a PDF?

  • Searching for Network / SIM card blocked - help please!!

I have just purchased an 8700c from a reputable eBay seller from whom I have previously purchased other items.
The 8700c was advertised as Unlocked without a SIM card.
I have never owned a Blackberry before and am just getting familiar with it.
When I click icon to 'Turn Wireless On' and press the Phone key then at top of screen displays "Searching for Network".
After a minute or so displays "No Service".
I bought the 8700c because one day my previous mobile phone did exactly the same thing.
After an hour on my landline phone with the phone company they assured me the GSM network was functional in my area and suggested my old phone was faulty.
Not knowing if the phone itself had just died or if fault was with the SIM card I took it to the local branch of the telco.
One of the guys there swapped his SIM card into my phone and had same problem - hence phone faulty.
Thinking about it later I realised that it didn't prove there wasn't also a problem with my SIM card but I thought it unlikely so decided to buy a new phone.
Anyway, received the 8700c yesterday and have inserted my old SIM card, been reading manual, etc.
Whilst learning how to use it I've been asked several times to enter a password.
Assuming this was the PIN/password I had on my old phone to prevent use in case I lost the phone, I entered it and it was accepted without any error/warning.
So I thought I was right in believing the PIN/password was stored on the SIM and not another code, maybe in some EPROM memory in the old phone - I'm not so sure now.
Doing a Google search I've found mention of various PIN/PIN2/PUK/PUK2 codes used in mobile phones which, if not used correctly, can cause the phone to be locked permanently.
Here's current information I've found on the 8700c:
click icon Settings / Options / Status shows
          PIN:      {8 alphanumeric code}
          IMEI:     { 6 digits .00. 6 digits .5}      i.e 15 digits and 3 periods
click icon Settings / Options / Advanced Options / SIM Card shows
          SIM Card: Blocked
          ID:     {20 digit number}
    click icon Phone shows
          My Number: Unknown
click again to see list of items, scroll down to Options
click again to see list of items headed Phone Options
    click on General Options
the 'Show "My Number":' line has value Yes
click icon Settings / Options / Network shows
          Network: * None *
          Network Selection Mode: Automatic
click again to see list of items, scroll to My Preferred Network List
click again to see one item which is GSM network associated with my old phone
So it seems this has been found from the SIM card.
The top left hand side of screen shows 'cingular' but I think I read somewhere that this was just the network for which the 8700c was originally issued and doesn't detemine whether the 8700c is currently locked/unlocked.
Is 'My Number' Unknown because the SIM card is Blocked?
Is the SIM card Blocked because I entered my old PIN password instead of the Settings / Options / Status alphanumeric code PIN or some other PIN?
How can I determine if the 8700c is really unlocked?
Are there some other settings/options or anything else I should do so I can get connected to the network?
Any thoughts would be very welcome.

I am having exactly the same problem mate. Never used a Blackberry - received mine today from eBay (Didn't include a manual) and i have been trying to configure it with no luck. I can't connect to a Network/My SIM Card is blocked/My number is unknown - Even though my SIM works perfectly in my Sony Ericsson. Have no idea what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I just bought an ibook pro and want to download a browser like google chrome which I am familiar with. Safari just seems to be a lot of icons for shopping and I would like to disable it and put something more functional in its place. How do I ?

I thought I just posted this question but maybe not. I'm going from a PC to an iBook and am trying to customize it. Can I add a browser like google chrome or even foxfire and disable safari? Safari jst seems to be an app store. Thnaks

It sound like you did something wrong. Try another download and install.
    Download of Chrome
    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en
    Direction to install
    Download the installer file
Open the file called "Google Chrome.dmg" after it's downloaded.
In the window that opens, drag the Chrome icon to the Application folder. This installs Chrome for all user accounts on your computer. Your home page settings and browser history will automatically be imported from your default browser. If you don't have administrative rights, drag the icon to a location on your computer where you do have rights, such as your Desktop. Chrome will only be installed for your user account.
The first time you open the browser, the Finder will ask you to confirm that you want to open the application downloaded from the Internet. Click Open to continue.
You'll see a message letting you know that you can search with Google directly from the address bar (also known as the omnibox). If you'd like to change yourdefault search engine, click Change.
Unmount the Google Chrome disk image on your Desktop by dragging it to the Eject icon in the Dock. (Make sure you're dragging the disk image and not the Google Chrome application icon.)

  • The volume for "network" cannot be found

    Hey guys,
    I have a small probelm.
    I have a g5 quadcore, with 2 network ports.
On ethernet port 2 i usea connection to a switch for my internet, which i share with others.
On port 1 i just installed a newtork hard drive, to use with time machine when i go to leopard.
Now, when the hd is connected, and i try to browse my network, by going to finder, and then the network icon, i get an error saying "the volume for "network" cannot be found"
Eventhough I have this error, Everything works fine.
So my internet from port 2 works fine, and my maxtor utility for the external network drive can find the hd, indicating that the external hd also works fine, on port 1.
So, my question is, how do i get rid of the error massage, in order to be able to browse my networks again, and also to find me new external hd, using the finder.
I hope someone can help out.
thanks for any help in advance.
    cheers,
    pm

    Ill try that
Is this save to do though?
It wont mess up any of my progs or whatever? Im dependant on this mac for my work, since it runs in a studio with protools and logic etc...
so i just want to be sure b4 i do this, that it wont mess with anything....
And actually, for some more info, somewhere in the beginning of the threat, you said i should rearrange my network ports, with in my case, connection 2 on top. (since it has the internet)
I tried doing this, but when i do this, connection 1 becomes inactive or something, at least i cannot find my hard disk anymore, which is connected to ethernet port 1.
I guess im thinking that it wont auto mount, because it doesnt run from the same ethernet connector as my internet etc. could that have something to do with it?
anyways, i will try what u said!
thanks for your help so far!
