No "enable Java" function on Macbook Air. Help!

I am having problem updating to the latest Flash player version. It kept showing "close safari"
after some research, i found out that my MacBook Air has no "enable Java" function.
any advice?
Regards

Java has nothing to do with Flash, and enabling it would not help you install Flash. Log out or restart the computer withou launching Safari and try again.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Safari quit unexpectedly on my Macbook Air, help please

    Hi,
Today my Macbook Air quit unexpectedly on my McBook Air and it won't load, it keeps giving me the same error message and the
option to reload, which it doesn't, but only gives me the same message. I sent the report to Apple, but I need to use my browser. I am on Google Chrome
to ask this question. How can I fix this.
I am on a late 2010 MacBook Air, running OS X Yosemite with the latest updates, included is Safari 7.
I was on the Weight Watchers site and an ad for MacPhoto appeared, so I clicked it for a download (I know, I don't usually do this, but I figured i was safe since
it was on this site). The download popped into my DL folder, I think next I left the page to check on the DL and when  did, it quit and I can't get it to load again. I did all the usual things. I tried restarting, nothing, then total shutdown and 5 minute wait and restarted, still nothing. what can I do to fix this?
    Thanks so much,
    Savannah7

I would probably reinstall OS X 10.10 from the recovery disk. All your data is preserved. I suppose there are ways to clear cache, find the offending program, etc., but (since you are not quite sure what has happened) I would reinstall.

  • MACBOOK AIR HELP!

Cannot open pdf on safari after downloading the new adobe reader.  I have the newest version of Macbook Air.  What is going on?

I have the 1.6 and I am really questioning the need for my MBPro. I am not a tech person at all, but I don't see the Air being any slower or less capable .. exception is this questionable battery.
As for Office vs iWork. I have both w/ Office student for Mac only because I send too many thing to people that use Word and Excel and whenever I send something directly from iWork Pages they say they cannot open it. I got the student edition because it was the least expensive and I just needed the basic Office features. I think iWork is much much nicer to work in and then when I am done I just click "export to Word ( or pdf)" I am able to send print advertisements and text articles to newspapers etc. who work in Windows and they receive everything fine... same for me opening Window Office attachments that they send to me.

  • Engineering Software on MacBook Air, help?

Hey there! I want to buy a new laptop easy to travel with (because I'll be taking it to college everyday) and people keep telling me I should a MacBook Air because it's light and it does everything. Unfortunately, I'm concerned about:
    1. I need to install several programs in there, some of them heavy as well as the projects coming from them.
    2. Compatibility with Microsoft Office/Microsoft Programs
Here are some of the programs I would have to install so you can get the idea:
Silverlight 4/Microsoft Expression Encoder 4/Visual Web Developer Express Edition/Microsoft Expression Studio 4/Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Audition/Sound Forge Pro 10/Netbeans/JavaFX/Oracle SQL developer
+ more video editing programs/3D modeling software...
Fortunately I can customize it. So the best I could get would be a MacBook air with:
2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GH
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    512GB Flash Storage
Will it be able to run these programs fast enough? I don't want performance problems since I really need to use it for college.
    Waiting for opinions. Thanks!

For Mac compatibility you should check the appropriate web site. You do appreciate you will have to buy the Mac versions.
If you already own windows software, you have the option of creating a windows partition and installing the existing sw on that volume.
The MBA you are considering is very fast.
Does your college have a computer store where you can do some hands on testing? Alternatively visit an Apple store and try out some of the display models to get an idea of how they run.

  • Can a new MacBook Air help me get back into DJing?

    Hello,
I currently have a mid-2010 MBP 15" (entry level) and plan on replacing it. Do not need a graphic card as such, but I do play Second Life from time to time. I mainly need my comp to get back into DJing and do basic stuff. I am not a gamer and I do not use photoshop... The config I am looking into is:
    MBAir 13", i7, 8GB RAM, 512 Flash storage.
    Cheers!

I don't believe the "Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive" is advertised to work with anything except a MacBook Air or a Mac Mini.
According to a MacWorld article, the reason that it won't work on other models is not a hardware issue, but a Mac OS X one.  The MacWorld column described modifying a kernel extension file (dicey; a good way to make your Mac non-bootable if you mess it up); readers suggested a method that involved modifying only property list files.'
I'm not sure I believe that it is just a software issue, or a "what is Apple willing to test and support?" one.  At the very end of the page, someone reported seeing "Extra Operating Current (mA): 600" in a USB device tree report.
I think this drive can draw more than the standard amount of power for a USB port.  The USB ports on the MacBook Air  (and now on the versions of the Mini that lack internal optical drives) have probably been designed with that in mind.  The USB ports on the other Macs may only be supplying standard amounts of power, which might (educated guess) be insufficient for some operations (like burning DVDs).

  • Several problems with my MacBook Air - Help?

I have had my MBA Rev A for just under a year now and my warranty will run out in 4 days! Unfortunately in the UK there aren't many Apple Stores. Infact the nearest one for me is about 30 kilometres away. So the problems. As I have mentioned on another post, my air has started creaking when I pick it up and also there's a bit of flex (popping sound when you touch it) on the bottom right corner. As well as this sometimes when I put my fingers on the trackpad it makes a buzzing sort of noise and upon start up and sometimes when browsing the net on safari or using pages, imovie or garageband etc. there are static noises. I love my macbook air but at the moment these problems are really annoying. Should I ring up Apple first before going to an Apple Store? And do you think they would completely replace my air?

    Hi jamesonline,
It sounds like the issue(s) you're experiencing are hardware related. So while you can certainly ring AppleCare for some assistance and to make them aware of the issue, they're more than likely going to send you an Apple Store for a technician to diagnose the issue (in-person).
As far as what they'll offer, that will be up to you. Apple's service strategy is typically not to replace a computer, but rather to fix it. If they cannot fix the unit then they'd pursue a different strategy. But I have not heard of very many (hardly any at all) cases where Apple will just replace a whole unit without attempting to fix the issue, first.

My laptop won't allow me to sign in to use it.  When I turn it off and restart it, the screen is white and a file folder with a question mark appears..  Nothing else happens.  Help please!!!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It usually indicates a hard drive problem, but it could be because your Mac "forgot" the startup disk. Press Option key while your Mac is starting and select Macintosh HD, if you can. If you can, after starting, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select Macintosh HD.
If not, take the Mac to an Apple Store because the hard drive is damaged
