I have been using firefox and was recently prompted to upgrade to a new firefox. I followed the instructions and dragged the icon into my apps folder. It had a 'no entry' sign on top of it which I didn't really understand. Now it won't start up and gives me a message saying 'You cannot open the application “Firefox” because it is not supported on this architecture'.

If you want to get a little more "exotic" you can try remapping the function keys. I did a little google searching and the hits that looked promising are,

After 10.8.5 i get a no entry sign on mac mini late 2012
After doing the10.8.5 update from the ap store i get a no entry sign on mac mini late 2012
my macbook pro (2011) went ok and the 3 Mac pro towers i have used have gone ok
a second mac mini did exactly the same from the 10.8.5 combo updater
a save / format and re-install via target disk mode gives me a no entry sign on boot and booting to the recovery partition does the same.Hi everyone I have fixed it !!!!!!
I had gotten to the stage that the screwdrivers were on the desk and i was ready to remove the hard drive from the mini to lowlevel format it on a "PC" not an easy task on a silver mac mini.
But............
I used carbon copy cloner (trial version so free !!!!) as part of the cloning process in 10.8 it asks you to create a recovery partition on the destination drive.
so I booted in target disk mode whacked ccc on my mac pro and when selecting a clone of the 10.8.5 system from the mac Pro it said the recovery partition on the mac mini hard drive was corupt and re-created it !!
As if it was magicly re-born my mac mini is now operating as if nothing had ever been wrong!
Does anyone know if there is an app for repairing the recovery partition? may need it on the other mac that "died" doing the 10.8.5 combo updater. -
Macbook Pro Does Not Start Up - Stuck at "No Entry" Sign
Hello,
I've been dealing with this hours, so at last I decided to get help from the community.
Let me explain the issue first.
I have checked Software Update, and there was two updates. First one was Java and the other one was EFI Update 2.7. I don't remember the Java update version. After I applied the update, the MBP rebooted itself as it should do; bu the problem occured at that reboot. OSX tried to start up three times, like as it was failing to install the updates after reboot. And at the fourth time, after a few minutes the Apple logo turned into a "No Entry Sign". And it stuck like that. Now, the MBP cannot boot normally, I can only run it on safe mode.
I have reset PRAM.
As far as I read about the issue over the boards, the problem occurs to be an HDD problem. Yet I can run the OSX in safe mode, which bugs me. So I downloaded SMART Utility to check the HDD. It says there is 1 Pending Bad Sector, and 1 Removed Bad Sector.
What do I do now, any solutions you can offer?
This is the log export from SMART Utility if you wish to check it.

If you have a backup, no worries.
If you do not have a backup, you could try to reinstall the operating system and get the disk to a state in which it will at least mount. Then, copy whatever information remains intact to another disk. I would be inclined to replace the drive now, install the failed one in an external enclosure, and attempt to extract whatever information you need from it. -
My iMac won't start up (no entry sign/folder with question mark)
Hello,
I recently updated the mac software through the App Store and it is now unable to start up.
When it starts up it has a white screen and a folder icon with a question mark in it. However, sometimes it has a 'no entry' sign instead.
I've found a few solutions online involving using the installation disk and holding certain buttons and going through safe mode but I'm not sure whether the mac is picking up my wireless keyboard. I've replaced the batteries and tried the wireless keyboard from my other mac but nothing has worked.
Can anyone help?
According to the box it is an iMac 27"/3.06/2x2GB/1TB/4670
And it's running Mountain Lion- I can't be too sure exactly which version because I can't get to the system information.
Thanks

Why do I have no entry sign apper when I log in
When I turn my iMac on the log in screen appears, when I select my (or any for that matter) user accounts, I am prompted for password, which is accepted and the system goes through the start up process, rather than starting the apple logo in the middle of the screen turns to a 'No Entry' sign - how do I over come this and what is likely to have caused it?
How do I tell if it is full?
If some basics are there and functioning, you may boot into Safe Mode (see point #1 in the linked doc), or into the Recovery System, from where you could launch the Disk Utility to look at and work on your HDD.
Uhm, just in case: You do have a backup, yes? -
Pages 09 no entry sign on my document. How can I delete it?
Hi folks,
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this no entry sign that seems to be embedded within the very soul of my document.
It is completely unselectable (even with background objects selectable ticked). I also didn't put it there. It apepared magically when I cut and pasted a table in my document to a different place.
Much obliged.
GregI have never seen it before. Try copy everything in the document and paste into a new blanc one. Hopefully the little sign will not transfer to the new document.

No entry sign on reinstalled Address Book
I have reinstalled address book (after deleting it for reasons I can't recall). It has contacts in it and opens up fine but a) there is a "no entry" sign when I open Applications as a stack and) b it doesn't sync with my iPhone 4, though everything else does sync, and the "sync contacts" box is checked in iTunes sync info tab.
Are these issues related? Can anyone help me with either/both?
Thank you! Thanks. The plot thickens in that sync has now happened sucessfully and all my contacts from the Mac are on the iphone and viceversa (tho in two diffrent groups on the phone). So that's ok now - just have to de-dupe.
The story doesn't seem that strange to me having lived it...for the last 5 years I've had email contacts on entourage, addreses on a big fat Word document that I used for mail merge, and phone numbers on my old Nokia. I kind of half-heartdely started using Mac Address Book, but never worked out how to get it to talk to the other lists so it was wasn't very useful. Getting the phone was the nudge to bring all these things together. Which at last I kind of have.
The "no entry" sign is still there after the reinstall which I did using advice from this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/19535.html but it doesn't seem to be affecting things at all. Maybe a complete reinstall is the way forward.
Thanks for all your help! -
Ok so i have a old eMac, and its not booting.
Its just sits with the apple logo on start up, makes the chime but does not move.
I held the option key, and got the option to boot of the mac HD.
But as soon as i click on it, the apple logo dissapears, and then there is a no entry sign.
I have tried to rebuild this machine, and its starts to load off the disk, but then the no entry sign pops back.
Please can someone help, its driving me crazyHi celeben,
I asked " Have you tried to repair the disk?" an you said you had, " I have tried both, but to no avail "
But by the sound of it maybe you haven't.
In Applications/Utilities open the Disk Utility. Selecting the hard drive, there will be displayed S.M.A.R.T. status for your drive. it should say verified.
From that same application, you can do Repair permissions and Verify disk.
If the disk needs repairing then these are the instructions.
The startup drive can only be repaired from another drive. Simply loading the install disk is not sufficient. You have to boot from the install disk.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then hold down the C key until you hear the chime.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to First Aid or Disk Utilities, depending on the system and navigate to the Disk Utilities app.
Then you will be able to Repair Disk on the start up drive.
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
Then run Repair Permissions.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.

You need to go to an Apple store, G Bar, ASAP. Your Mac SSD/Flash storage has died and needs to be replaced or the complete system replaced.

Grey screen"no entry sign/question mark
My imac was working fine and then the browsers began freezing.
Tried force quits but no apps came up in the window.
Tried restarting and heard a loud beep followed by grey screen and folder with question mark.
Took out all connections and tried starting up again, this time a grey screen with a no entry sign appeared.
Powered off and on again, this time blue screen appeared after 5 mins then went on to mouse/keyboard bluetooth set up,finally got back on to my log in screen.Logged in and tried disk utility which began verifying permissions but got stuck saying 4 mins remaining.
Spotlight was also beginning to re-index.
another restart, and no entry sign appears.
Next restart, reset Pram, apple logo appeared and stuck on grey screen with nothing happening.
Any ideas people?
thanks in advance!
Also,is there still an apple support contact number from the UK? used to be able to phone through for one off incidents.just done this:
"Try Disk Utility
Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Macbook pro crashing and now no entry sign on start up.
Please help! I have a macbook pro with snow leapord, 2 years and no problems. Since yesterday it has been crashing with sbbod and now I am just getting a no entry sign on start up and getting no further? What do do???
You must back up first, if it's still possible, before you do anything else.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup; 10.7 or later), from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup; 10.7.2 or later), or from your installation disc (C key at startup; 10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data. -
No Entry Sign when trying to netboot new MacMini to Mountain Lion Server
My company just purchased a new MacMini i5 2.5 GHz and I am trying to netboot it to my Mountain Lion Server 10.8.2 but I am getting the No Entry sign when it tries to boot to the server. I tested my other Mac computers that are in my environment and they are able to netboot to the server fine. It just seems to be an issue with this latest Mac Mini.
As part of my troubleshooting, I created a new netrestore image from the new Mac Mini using System Image Utility on the Mountain Lion Server. The server successfully created it and I set it as the new default image in the NetBoot server. After taking these steps, I am still getting a No Entry sign.
I checked the log on the server to see what is happening when it tries to boot and this is what is displays:

11/16/12 2:39:03.753 PM netbiosd[148]: name servers down?I'm seeing the same behavior with a new Late 2012 Macmini6,2 (2.3GHz quadcore i7).
I have a lab with several variants of minis up through the last generation. One of those minis is a NetBoot/DeployStudio server. I have it hosting a 10.8.2 NetBoot image, which works for all of the other lab minis but this new one.
I have tried 3 different methods for NetBoot:
Holding the 'N' key at boot
Holding option and seeing my NetBoot disk in the selectable options
Booting into the restore partition and selecting my NetBook disk from the Startup Disk preference pane
All 3 options result in what is described above - the Ghostbusters (minus the ghost) no entry sign. My particular mini then shuts itself down shortly thereafter.
My NetBoot server log looks similar to the above, where my BSD INFORM messages have sysid=Macmini6,2.
I have confirmed that - on the restore partition at least - the shipping OS on the new mini 6,2 is 10.8.1. It's likely a custom edition for this new hardware. It's possible that a component of a 10.8.3 update would fix it, but I'm unfortunately leaning toward this being an EFI firmware issue. I've noted on another site that these minis seem to have issues with VMware's ESXi, where the suggested course of action will be an Apple firmware update: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/423099
As the lab is hoping to purchase 40 of these systems, NetBoot support is rather critical.
