No error code, iTunes just won't open

ok...i'm doing this for a friend's computer so I may not know all the details, but here goes...
My friend has a Dell laptop that runs on Windows Vista. We have installed the latest version of iTunes on her computer but no it seems she is having problems with it.
It all began with getting the error code (-50) anytime she tried to purchase music from the iTunes store. I checked all the forums and it seemed most people got this message when they were trying to open the iTunes store, but she only got it when trying to purchase it. I checked the parental controls and nothing was checked so I wasn't sure what was wrong.
I thought maybe iTunes just needed a reboot, so I quit iTunes. No we can't get it open. Everytime we double click on iTunes nothing happens. No error message, nothing. It seems like it might open because we get the 'pinwheel', but then nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

I was having the same problem - this fixed it for me:
Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be corrupt and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
* C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
* C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • My itunes just won't open

My iTunes was working fine but suddenly just won't open. It looks like it's opening but nothing happens. I tried reinstalling many times but doesn't help. Does anyone have any solution to this? Hopefully it won't wipe out all my sync datas and library from my iPods & iPhone. It can't work and I am desperately seeking help. Can anyone help?

I have exactly the same problem. Apple does not seem to be responding to this issue. It appears that it only started after the latest update.

  • Itunes just won't open.No error message or anything,it just simply won't open when i double click the icon.Plz help!

    As the title says
    Thanks in advance!!

Its alright I forget some details when I post a question too, anyways.... sounds like some file has got corrupt or theres a PC glitch.
As with many post covering simliar issues about iTunes not opening, first try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it.
Also make sure your anitvirus is turned off or disabled when uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes and qicktime. Follow ALL the steps at the link below

  • Itunes  11 won't open error 2, Itunes  11 won't open error 2

I am trying to open the newest version of Itunes but either I get error 2  or apple application support not found. Any sugguestions besides uninstalling it again I have done that at least 10 times  thanks

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes just won't open sometimes....

I have Vista. I want to remove iTunes and re-download it. My only worry is will I lose my playlists and purchased music lists?? When I delete iTunes is something left behind in memory to restore my playlists when I re-download it? Make sense? Thanks

Yes, the itunes databse fie which is named
    iTunesLibrary.itl
is left behind, and all your playlists should be there. As well as playcounts, ratings, etc. That file stores all the itunes metadata.
Some folks have problems when upgrading, where their library file goes missing, that I've read about. Hasn't yet happened to me, but as a precaution, I always back up that ITL file to my USB memory stick before I do an itunes upgrade.

  • ITunes store won't open after Update - NO Error message!

    Hello everyone!
This morning I updated my iTunes to 11.1 upon being prompted (when I tried to connect my new iPad Mini). I run Mac OS X 10.6.8. The macbook also updated other softwares (auto update). I restarted my laptop, and now the iTunes just won't open. The first time I click it in the dock, the icon would just bounce thrice before settling down, and then nothing happens. Upon clicking again, it would bounce just once, but nothing opens. There is no error message either.
I have tried restarting, and also tried software update for the OS. I have checked the parental controls and administrative powers for the user.
    Kindly help!

Jason,I used the troubleshooting link you gave and so far have 1.Fixed Digital Signing for Windows drivers.(didn't help) 2.Removing Itunes configuration files.
In this one I was told to delete the SC info.sidb file (I didn't have one of these when I got to the folder where it was supposed to be)The thing I haven't done is the mscofig.instruction. I was saving it for last as it sounded like it could really make a lot of changes to my computer. The Itunes installation icon is still on my desktop so I clicked on it and there was a link that said it would repair missing or damaged files in the Itunes software. It didn't help either. I can click on Itunes all day long and it won't open.I can't access the library either. I am going to do the last step you suggested and uninstall my security software and see if that helps. I appreciate all the help Jason.

  • Windows 7 - Downloaded new itunes and won't open

Just upgraded to the new itunes and every time I click on it, nothing happens.  No errors, no issues, just won't open or anything.  Even tried uninstalling old versions and now none of them will work?!

Hello and thanks so much for your quick reply. I am at a standstill, because I have done those things already and it has not worked. The repair install procedure seemed to take place quickly, but the same thing happened again when I tried to uninstall it the program after that.... It seems to proceed, then the progress bar goes backward, and there it still is!
When I downloaded the Microsoft Fixit program and asked it to uninstall the Apple Mobile device Support, it started but then got stuck and I had to shut my computer off, as it froze everything up!
I'm hoping you can help..... This seems to be a problem with the new version, and it's frustrating, because I can't use Itunes on my computer at all till we find a solution.
Perhaps if I try to restore my computer to before the Itunes 11.1.4 uodate?
Thanks so much for your help,
    Shirley 261

"Extended" network means your phone is picking up towers from another carrier that Sprint has an agreement with. Long story short, Sprint does not have adquate coverage in the area where you are located when you see "extended".

  • Installer/Application Manager just won't open

In the simplest terms: Adobe Application Manager for CS5 just won't open. It all started when I tried to update CS5 to the most recent version, but this Application Manager would freeze up after the "Initializing Installer" window was done. After that, AAM not only stops responding, but it slows the entire computer down. I would let it sit for 10-20 minutes, and still nothing. I tried downloading the patch to update AAM, but that did the same thing. I tried uninstalling CS5, but that requires AAM, so I used to AppZapper to get rid of all the CS5 programs. When I tried to reinstall, it put AAM back on my computer and the problem returned. I tried the CS5 CleanUp Utility, which claims it got rid of all CS5 files. AAM still locks up after initialization. I tried repairing disk permissions, same thing. I even consulted the PDApp.log, and there have been no FATAL or ERROR messages. I am at a loss here, as I now have no CS5 programs and no way to get them back. Please help.
I'm running OSX 10.6.5 on a 2x2.8Ghz MacPro with 32 gigs of RAM (which is why its so troubling when the computer slows to a crawl). Thank you in advance for your help.

If you are using IE 7, try removing it (reverts to IE 6). There seems to be a problem with the windows installer for QT when used with IE 7. This even holds true if you use Firefox or some other browser to download the program. Try using your
QT icon in your system tray to see if it recognizes QT being on your computer. Mine said it was not loaded even though I could find it in the Windows ADD/Remove utility. This is what I did to correct my problem.
    Remove IE 7
    Remove QT
    Remove iTunes
    Download iTunes + Quicktime
    Install iTunes
All of my music came back just fine, playlists and all. You may lose some album art or settings such as compilations but that is all.

  • Error code = 0x40010015 when trying to open PDF in PS CS3

    Greetings:
I'm having a problem opening a PDF file in Photoshop.
    This is the error message:
Error Opening the Portable Document File
    (PDF) Document. Error Code =
    0x40010015
Searching the Adobe Forums, Knowledge Base, and even Google has turned up no results. Any idea what the problem may be?
My process has been taking a PDF file created from QuarkXpress (6.5) and opening it in Acrobat Pro (8.1.2) and doing a save as and replacing the current pdf. Then I open this new PDF file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) and apply actions. No problems. Then I encountered this one file that won't open in Photoshop, but will open in Acrobat, Preview, Illustrator. I get the following error message.
I'm using a G5 PowerPC Mac (4 x 2.5 GHz Processor) with 6.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM for memory. Mac OS X version 10.4.11 (haven't switched to Leopard yet) Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software package.
    Thanks,

I receive an error code = 0x40010015 when trying to open a PDF in Photoshop CS3 for windows.
I do not have Illustrator to open and re-save as the forum discussion indicated.
Is there another way to open a PDF with this error code?  I work with Quark, Photoshop and Publisher

  • HT1689 The iTunes Store won't open on my iPod, what happened?

My iTunes Store won't open. When it is clicked, it just flashes back to the home screen. I restarted it and turned it off and back on, but nothing helped. This all started after I upgraded to iOS 7.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
