No Ethernet using USB Dock 3.0 with X1Carbon

This USB 3.0 Dock is simply not a Production prime-time solution for a serious User. Maybe someday, but it's overpriced bling junk right now. I've completely given up with the multi-monitor option as the performance, when working, is like an RDP session over a poor WAN connection at best. I've just thrown up my hands and will use an alternative hardware multi-monitor solution from Matrox as my fiddling time limit has been exceeded..
I would still like to use the USB 3.0 Dock as the most expensive USB Hub ever sold. Unfortunately, the USB Dock Ethernet network connection is not recognized. (The USB 2.0 Network on the laptop itself works okay) The USB 3.0 Dock ethernet worked one time for about 10 seconds, but then my monitors went completely berserk, disconnecting and connecting over and over. Then no Ethernet never to show up again. A lesser issue is the audio jack doesn't work either, but who cares about that when there's an audio jack right there on the X1 Carbon 12" away.
Can anyone who has one of these frustrating devices suggest what I should do to get the network connectivity working? I've done all the obvious, usual stuff. (un-install, re-install, turn-off, turn-on, throw on floor, etc.)
Thanks!

A recent X1 Carbon BIOS Update that showed up in Lenovo - Update and Drivers (32-bit) really, really improved the multi-monitor performance in my case. It's still not as good as the traditional bottom mount H/W Dock, but attached screens don't spontaneously disconnect any longer and it's more than useable. Hopefully I'll get a nice surprise with the USB 3.0 ethernet at some point in the future.
I didn't want to leave a crappy product rant out there without stating Lenovo has obviously made some sort of adjustment / improvement to their product.

  • Using USB DV Tape Camcorders with Macbook Air

I am trying to understand whether it's possible to use a USB DV Tape Camcorder with the air. I have a PV-GS500 Camcorder, it has both firewire and USB ports. With a MBP, you can easily transfer movies from the camera to the computer via firewire, using iMovie. Now with a PC, you can transfer movies to the computer via USB. The PC recognizes the camera, once it's plugged into USB, as a "DV device". But what about the MBA? They lack firewire ports, so the only connection is via USB. You'd think that since they lack firewire ports, Apple would allow them to recognize the camera via USB, in the same way a PC would. But I can't get this to work, and I don't see any comments about that on the internet.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jean-Paul,
You can use wireless as well as a wired connection for Migration Assistant (you'd need the USB-to-Ethernet adapter if you went wired).

  • Using USB Keyboard and Mouse with S6000-f Ideatab

First you need a Microusb to USB adaptor pluged in, then plug in a usb hub I'm using a 4 port unpowered mini hub
then plug in a usb keyboaed and mouse.
it works good in Kingsoft office and AndrOpen office or any app that needs you to type
it does disable the touch pad keyboard, until you unplug the usb keyboard.  It's alot cheaper than a blue tooth keyboard
I'm using a Samsung micro usb to usb connector model EPL-AU10WEGXAR
Keyboards tested:  Dynex usb and Acer usb
    Mouse tested: Kingston usb
Any usb keyboard and Mouse should work.
Also I tested a Thumb drive. Sandisk 8gig  it shows up in the file manager .
So you dont have to use a MicoSD card.  The one thing  back up and restore only uses the MicroSD card slot.
I havent found out how to change that yet.
I dont think any of this is in the Manual   I just like to share useful Info.

Your computer has USB 2.0 ports. You can use USB 3.0 devices with it, but at the speed of USB 2.0.

  • LIFA ethernet to USB

    Hello all,
I am new to LIFA.  To give a reference, I just wrote my first script from the ground up which turns a digital pin high or low and it was a rough time.  My end goal is to get LIFA working with ethernet.  However, I know that can not be done as of yet.  I am looking into writing my own functions, but that will be very time consuming.  I am wondering if I can use an ethernet to USB device to communicate with the arduino for a short term solution.
I was looking at this http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031102&p_id=6150&seq=1&for... and thought I might be able to get labview to communicate via ethernet this way.
    Any thoughts?
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
I noticed that you also asked this question over on the LabVIEW Interface for Arduino (LIFA) forums. This is definitely the best resource to use for LIFA related questions or issues. For future reference, the best resources for LIFA support are the dedicated LIFA forum and the LIFA community page. I've included links below.

That's what I thought too, then I bought this USB Ethernet adapter and on the package it says :
"Compatible only with MacBook Air Computers"... so I am not sure if I should open it.
When it was originally released it only worked with the MacBook Air which came with a special version of OS X that supported this adapter. Apple seem to have since built this support in to versions of OS X 10.6 and later for all Macs.
If you have an older version of OS X e.g. 10.3 to 10.5 then an unofficially driver is available here http://www.sustworks.com/sb_site/downloads.html
There are also third-party USB to Ethernet adapters with their own drivers like this one http://www.kanexlive.com/usb3lan

It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Can I connect TC with ethernet to USB cable?

Can TC work as HD only by connecting to my Imac with ethernet to USB cable?

Please confirm that you have at least two good ethernet cables, which will be needed for the installation.
I understand that you do not need for the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network, and it will only function as a hard drive, correct?
The step by step that we provide will allow you to backup to the Time Capsule using the current modem/router that you have now and also backup using ethernet if you connect the computer directly to the Time Capsule.
This is what you want, correct?

  • Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 vs. ... with USB 3.0 - 90 W vs. ... with USB 3.0 (170W)

    I am running a
    Lenovo T530, Quad-Core
    Intel i5-3320M CPU @ 2.6 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    Windows 8, 64-bit
    I am using a 90W 20V power adaptor.
I want to see the difference between mainly the Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 Dock and the Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 Dock - 90 W. From looking over the descriptions, they seem to be the same product, yet the latter is $20 more expensive. Could someone explain why that is or if a difference exists?
Will my specs allow me to have a quad display configuration?
From looking at other posts, I assume using a 170W power adaptor on a laptop that runs with a 90W power adaptor is a bad idea?
    Thanks in advance!

Your Intel i5 is a dual core CPU, not a quad core CPU (in case you didn't already know).
The difference between the docks you listed, one is with 2 x DP + 2 DVI while the other is 1 x DP + 1 x DVI.
Does your T530 have Nvidia GPU? If you do, then get the dock with 2 x DP + 2 x DVI (Series 3 Plus dock), this will give you quad displays setup. The one with Intel GPU will give you triple display setup through the dock.
