No events in Photo?

Has anyone figured out how to display iPhoto events on the ipad? Doesn't look like they are here. This would be a big pain to duplicate iphoto events as "albums" so that you can effectively organize your photos on the ipad.

Scott,
There is native support for events. In iTunes select all or some photo events. Then on the iPad within the Photo app, there are tabs at the top of the screen for Photos/albums/Events etc.

  • An uneventful year... (aka no events for photos taken in 2006)

Have just installed iPhoto 08 and it has upgraded my library and created events for me.
However, no photos from between March 21 2005 and February 1 2007 show up in the Events or Photos views at all! I can see these photos in their albums but there is a huge hole between 2005 and 2007 everywhere else, and it only lists '830 photos in 30 events' at the bottom of the window (I know there are a couple of thousand normally). If i select all the photos in an album and ask iPhoto to create an event it pops up a confirmation, I confirm and it looks as if it has created an event (in any case it won't let me do it again, the option is greyed out), but I still cannot see these photos in Events/Photos.
I tried deleting the album in case a photos can't be in an Event and an Album at the same time but this resulted in not being able to see the photos of that album anywhere! Luckily I have a backup...
I have tried repairing permissions, rebuilding the library, and restoring the library from backup to give iPhoto another shot at it but nothing seems to work!
    How can I fix this?

    Simon:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Threre are two ways to correct that.
1 - use the Photo's->Batch Change menu option to change the date to what you want AND write that date to the files as well.
2 - use the Photos->Adjust Date and Time menu option.
Both do pretty much the same. I've not figured out the real differences between the two but there's bound to be one. I've been able to do multiple photos at a time with each.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Events and Photos not shown in full album view

In either Events and Photos (under Library) or Albums, when I click on an event or album, it pre-selects a photo (obviously one that I have set as the cover), but NOT the entire collection (as in the past). I used to be able to:
    1) See the entire collage, and select any picture I liked and it would enlarge
    2) Click in the black space (I set it to a black background), then the picture would minimize and I'd be back to the full album or event.
Now, nothing happens when I click the background black space. All I can do is simply scroll through the album or event and see the pics as they open on screen. I have no idea what the picture will be until I click the forward arrow. I cannot see the full album as well, just the pre-set first picture.
    Not sure what happened.
    Thanks.

Also, when I click the various tabs in iPhoto Preferences, the pop-up box shakes for a few seconds, just like when you inadvertently enter the wrong password when logging in, or doing software updates, and the system tells you you've made a mistake by making it vibrate up and down. This does not happen with other programs....the transition between settings options after clicking is clean.
    I wonder if there's a bug.
I've done nothing to preferences at all....all settings have remained the same.

  • Any ideas on why my Apple TV no longer "sees" my photo albums? It lists events and photos but not albums like it did earlier.

Using my MacBook Pro and iPhoto and Apple TV I have always been able to navigate on the TV to Photos and then to either Events, or Photos, or Albums. I always choose albums for my "shows" but after updating Apple TV I no longer see Albums as a choice which prevents me from getting to them with the Apple TV remote. Any ideas for correcting this?

I'm answering my own question. Here's what I've discovered since the original post: 1. Turn on tv and Apple TV -  2. open iTunes on computer  - 3. under the Advanced menu of iTunes Turn On Home Sharing and click on Choose Photos to Share - 4. check Share Photos From (iPhoto), click Selected albums, Events, Faces and in the Albums column check the one you want - 5. Now, when you go to the Apple TV remote and select Photos, you will see the album you previously selected.

  • Import (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (  many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.

Attempted to import 6.5 GB of (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (plus many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.  I read a previous response to a similar question -- to copy the pictures library to the new computer.  How best to do that?

There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.
Edited: Thanks to Old Toad and LarryHN for their help in finding which of the many options to transition this library to 9.5.1 I needed to use. Sorry if I took my frustration of the past several months out on you guys for generously trying to help me.

  • How can I find what Event a photo is in when that photo is found via Faces?

I've stumbled upon a photo via the Faces category. I do not know what Event this photo exists in, but I'd like to know (this same issue can occur with a photo found via Places of course too). How do I find out what Event this photo exists in? Of course I can pull the date or title data from the photo and then search for that data and visually find the photo from the search results, but I would assume there would be a much much easier method.
None of the information data seems to contain any event data. I would think each photo would contain information as to what Event it currently resides in.

Wait until iPhoto is done scanning for new images in the ".. might also be in the photos below" section, then right click (or Option-Click if your mouse has no right button) on the image, and in the last group of the menu that pops up should be an item "Show Event". While it's still scanning for more faces, the "Show Event" menu item isn't shown yet.

  • On iPhone IOS6 i have events and photos which are not in my iPhoto 11 event library.

On iPhone IOS6 i have events and photos which are not in my iPhoto 11 event library.
I have noticed that on the itunes photo sync some more events and even several event per day are created but these photos are not in my iPhoto standard pictures (more events on iPhone tha.
Some of these pictures i have trashed them but they still appear in sync on iTunes.
    How can I clean this?
These pictures are even not in trash bin because i empty it.
    Can anyone help me.

Many continue to have the problem and today's iPhoto update does not appear to have corrected the issue.  You can see the MANY complaints here

  • Erase images and events in Photo app

I cannot erase numerous events in Photo app. Firstly my photos have organised themselves into 30 - 40 events with 3 or 4 photos in each event. This was not how they were imported. Some corruption has occurred. More importantly I cannot erase them. If I set photos in iTunes to sync with nothing, these 30 - 40 events will not disappear. Any suggestions to erase all photos in the ipad Photo app?
    Thanks

but just doesn't have the features when I have spent hours tagging, editing and sorting all my photos in iPhoto on my iPad and  desktop.
You cannot add tags and captions in Photos iOS 8, and you cannot see them when opening a photo. But the tags you added previously are still there when you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos. You will see that, when you use the search field and enter one of your tags or a caption. This will find all photos with this tagged you then can create an album of all tagged photos for each tag. Creating albums with distinctive names is the new way of tagging. You can search for album names.
I share your sentiments entirely, and I hope Apple will provide an update to Photos soon or offer app extensions to add the missing features.

  • Photos are not displayed in events/faces/photos but do when magnified

I just reinstalled my OS from 10.6 back to 10.5 (software compatibility). When I imported my iphoto library which I had backed up, everything imported, but I cannot see any of the pictures unless I double-click to magnify. I can see the white dashed outline of where the pictures are supposed to be in the events and photos folders, all of the names appear in faces, etc. but I just can't actually view a photo unless I magnify it. Any ideas?

I just talked to apple support on the phone. They suggested rebuilding the thumbnails, like TD suggested. When I told the support guy that that method did not work, he said that the only other option was to build a new library and import the originals.
I was told to find the iPhoto library in the Users...>Pictures folder, right click on it and select Show Package Contents, then move the Originals and Modified (edited pictures) folders to the desktop. The iPhoto library can then be moved to the trash. When launching iPhoto, it asks what library to use. Select Create New... and the default name and location are iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder. Click save, then go to File>Import to library and select the Originals and Modified folders from the desktop. Any pictures that have been modified are still in their original form in the Originals folder. Both versions (original and modified) of a picture will be imported if both folders are selected for import.
Unfortunately, slideshows, books, folders, etc. could not be saved in my case, but the most important thing is that the pictures are still there.
Hope this helps anybody else with the same problem!

  • Many events and photos are missing from my iphoto.  I have time machine and would like to restore without creating duplicates. The issue is although my photos are presently blank time machine/iphoto does see the file so importing them will create duplicat

For some unknown reason, events and photos in my Iphoto are appearing blank. The photos have a title / placeholder but no picture. I use time machine and have back ups, my goal is to restore the photos without creating duplicates. Unfortunately iphoto sees the blank photos as if the picture exists?  Help

If you want to use your back up you need to restore then entire Library from Time Machine, and then replace the damaged Library with it.

  • Missing Event key photos and photo count

This is a question regarding the Library Events folder with the list of all events. I have approximately 560 events and 24,000 photos. The problem is with only 32 events within a date rangeof  four months from Feb thru June of this year that contained 41 events. 9 of the events scattered throughout that date range work normally. I can't identify a common denominator for either of the groups that work or those that don't. I can't think of any difference in the way I imported them or any other reason why some within that range don't work properly and some do. For some reason the last 8 events over the last 6 weeks have worked perfectly. I'm pretty sure the problematic events had shown perfectly for a while and that suddenly one day this situation started even for some events that already had been working fine.
The problem with the 32 events is two key characteristics, there is not a key photo for the event whether one is assigned specifically or one chosen by the program - just a generic black and white ghost image icon with a palm tree and sunset. The other issue is when hovering over the event icon and when it would usually list the number of photos within the event - in these 32 groups it shows only 0 (zero) but when I go into the event all of the photos are there - whether it's 1 photo or 100. I am able to assign titles to the events as normal.
Here are some things I have been told but have no idea as to the accuracy and thought I would put this question out to the experts before I did anything. One thing I had been told that was that iPhoto isn't equipped to hold this large a number of photos and to switch to Aperture but today I read something within Apple that says Aperture uses the same library as iPhoto.
Someone else had mentioned reindexing the library but I'm not sure whether to attempt that and what that means. I read in another forum and it was unclear if that would be a suitable course of action for me but that was a question someone posed regarding an ios device so it really wouldn't apply to me directly:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5123493?start=0&tstart=0
It occurs to me as I write this that perhaps I could just export these events of photos and then re-import them again.
I'm sorry this is so long. I'm trying to be thorough. After years of looking through forums for answers to questions that have boggled my mind - this is the first time I've ever posted a question. Please be gentle. Thanks!
    Technical Information:
    MacBook Pro Mid-2009
    500GB ~ 200GB free
Hard drive replaced by Apple 6/17/13
    OSX 10.8.4
    iPhoto 11  v9.4.3
    560 Events
    24,000 photos (approx)

Here are some things I have been told but have no idea as to the accuracy and thought I would put this question out to the experts before I did anything. One thing I had been told that was that iPhoto isn't equipped to hold this large a number of photos and to switch to Aperture but today I read something within Apple that says Aperture uses the same library as iPhoto.
That is as you note incorrect - the current versions of iPhoto and Aperture do use the same exact library structure and can open and modify each other's libraries - the current limitation on an iPhoto library is !,000,000 photos (I have not personally verified that)
It occurs to me as I write this that perhaps I could just export these events of photos and then re-import them again.
No - that would not improve anything and would lose data
What you need to do it backup your iPHoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your thrumbnails - which may take several tries - if this does not resolve things rebuild the library

  • How do I rename events in Photos?

Once I upload photos to my device on the iPad 2 with the camera connection kit, it gives me events with names like 2012-01-06 . I would like to know a simple way to change the name of the event from the iPad, because I don't have a computer I could sync it to.
    Thanks!

You can't rename them on the iPad, you can only chose the names of events for photos prior to syncing them from a computer.

  • IPhoto 11 Places discrepancy between Library -- Places and Events or Photo

iPhoto 11 crashed and automatically rebuilt itself. Now some photos associated with some Places no longer appear under the Library --> Places map. However, if I go to the specific event or photo, the pin placement on the map is correct. This is for some photos, not all.
    Please advise. Thx

I would restore the backup from jsut before the crash

  • Merge events in photo

How do you merge events in photo (iPhoto) on the iPad? The (for me) normal Wayne in iPhoto of dragthing one event over THE other did not wrok

    Wilco

I was asking because I was importing photos from my Canon 40D camera. Some photos imported are marker as such by a green checkmark, but others, are imported but are not checked. So when I connect the camera again, the iPad photo app imports them again. When I connect annoteer Canon camera (the S5is), everything import normal.
I use the iPad on vacation only as a backup for the cameras. Later I will import the photos on my iMac.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks Wilco

  • How to group or print index of Event Key Photos?

I am making some backup dvds of my library for off site storage. I would like to make an index print of the event key photos but can not figure out how to group them. Can you make a smart album (clearly iphoto has them tagged in some way)? Is there just an option for printing them that I can't find? There must be a more elegant solution than opening each event and copying the key photo to an album...

Can you make a smart album (clearly iphoto has them tagged in some way)? Is there just an option for printing them that I can't find?
    No and No I'm afraid.
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback for feature requests.
There must be a more elegant solution than opening each event and copying the key photo to an album...
Either that or tag them with a keyword, flag them or rate them and use that as the basis of a smart album.

  • Events in photo are scrambled

Since I upgraded to Yosemite and ios8.1 Events in Photo on my mobile devices (iPadAir and iPhone 5s) are scrambled although they are in alphabetical order ascending (sort event) on my Mac. I sync selected photos with iTunes and they are in alpha order there.
How can I have in the same order on my mobile devices as on my Mac?

When I want to find a photo on my mobile I have to find the disorganised Event. Let's hope Apple fix this.
Frankly, I am a bit sceptical. If you enable the iCloud Photo Library Beta, syncing iPhoto libraries with iTunes will be completely disabled, so the only future way to get photos to your iDevices will be iCloud.
You may want to send feedback to Apple to increase the probability for the fix.  Apple - iPhoto - Feedback
